The first thing Coco did was exploiting the unappreciated morning timeslot to great success.
She also led the foundation for the "hololive box", which to this day is the most powerful aspect of hololive.
The word box/hako refers to what we usually call "the brand". Aqua and many JP fans use this word regularly. But I prefer the word "box", as it alludes to the whole group being inside a special space.

Yeah, Coco was something between Hololive's Hypeman/cheerleader and her own brand of whacky entertainer.
She tied so much of her identity to hololive's brand, and properly utilized the popularity/quirks of the holomem to push for some kind of symbiotic growth.
She was kinda my gateway into hololive proper because it's easier to learn about the other holomem when they appear is so many short memorable asacoco segments.

I found Hololive the day after Mano Aloe graduated apparently, and because of that I actually initially avoided the streams coz 1) I didn't know how to watch streams lmao, 2) people were shxttalking Hololive and I adopted a look-see attitude, preferring to immerse myself in clips first.
Around a couple of weeks later I grew to like Hololive enough that when the Taiwan incident happened I immediately went defense mode for them, even tried staying up at 5am to RBI CN antis showing up to Asacoco streams... I didn't last long tho coz I'm really not a morning person, but the fact that I even did that for a group that I only knew for a few weeks still feels insane to me. Nowadays I don't watch Hololive as often as I used to, but I still look at what they're doing everyday when I scroll thru my subfeed so I'm still pretty updated.

you found Hololive after the Aloe's graduation? so that's why I didn't see you in the comments on the old HoloGamers clips.
but yeah, i feel you on the feeling of wanting to protect when antis attacked Coco though. I've been watching Holo clips for months back then and it became my happy place in the pandemic. So it just hurt seeing the dragon break down like that.

I remember being taken aback by Coco's brazenness. My first contact with Hololive was through Pekora's Minecraft streams, I remember crying when Moona wanted to communicate with Pekora but couldn't because she isn't able to speak japanese. Coco was in the butt plug meme phase, so I thought her content wasn't for me, but she pioneered a lot of stuff for Hololive, being the bridge for HoloEN a while later. I also remember Suisei's karaoke stream when Coco graduated, the opening Tsumi to Batsu with Suisei holding the tears through the song, it was another moment I cried. Then EN came, Gura exploded throughout the world, that Myth 1st anniversary stream is still one of the best of all time to me. Small Gura's Ride on Time is one of the best performances ever. Ina wanting to hug her friends at the end, just another moment of dozens we cried with them. I honestly wasn't fond of the idol culture, I never liked any idol star and it never crossed my mind to follow them so closely. But Hololive is just built different, so much raw emotions that you can't help but cheer for them and wish nothing but happiness for all of the talents.

As someone who got into Hololive in 2021, looking at what they've been doing now and thinking they're only getting bigger, it's crazy to think the things they were doing when I got into it were "big" compared to how they started. It really shows where they started and where they are now, it's great.

I entered the rabbit hole in 2018-19. Back then the girls were getting like 200-500 views a stream. By the time HoloEN hit it was around 10-14 thousand viewers on average. It's gone down a bit since the pandemic ran its course but even so they have way more concerts and brand deals than ever before. It's crazy seeing how much the company has grown over the years.

I found HOLOLIVE through a recomended clip during my Dark Souls phase
A certain well-endowed knight was having a hard time woth Ornstein and Smough, and from there, I was enamored by how funny she was. Then, I found her friends: a 17-year-old pirate, a coffee elf, a shrieking necromancer, a rabbit with a funny laugh, and I learned that the elf was gettng a 3D model? I was intrigued, and after watching the shenanigans of that group, called a "generation", I decided to look deeper into the living rabbit hole and learn as much as I could.
And that's when I fell in.
    I've been here ever since.

I was in a dark and uncertain place because of the pandemic. Losing my Corporate Job, being forced to close down my side business in electronics repair and barely having anything to eat myself and support my employees for the longest lockdown in the world (Philippines) kicked me in the nuts so hard, i was so close to self harm.
but one thing that helped me pass the time as i stared into a screen and heal was Miko with GTA5.. which led to me discovering Pekora Clips with FGO and started listening to Watame, Aqua and Suisei's music and bunkering in with other fans & the girls during the Coco incident and eventually supporting the girls with what little i had..
now im glad im back on track and can support these girls so they continue providing entertainment and hope to alot of people across the world.

I'm almost certain Yagoo only is as popular as he is because he let them do whatever they want with that one photo of his face. If it wasn't for that, he'd be an actual faceless boss. I know he'd already been in some interviews like there's the old famous AKB48 clip and there's also a TV segment where they visit the 3D studio to see how everything works, so it's not like he was hidden, but in those contexts he exists separate from the actual content, while letting them mess around with his own face brings him directly into their world, and also indicates a lot about his character. Him modelling their clothes and merch and throwing the first pitch at a baseball game just feels like a natural extension of that, he's become the physical representative of his virtual employees, stepping up to do certain things they can't do when it's necessary.

You know what's really interesting about that one photo of his face? The person who made the whole potato head thing was the CEO of Activ8, that is to say the guy behind Kizuna AI. It's weird to think that the thing that has survived down to 2024 is his weird little shitpost about another agency's CEO, as opposed to his own agency's primary project.

Chinese people have fragile hearts of glass and could break down at tiniest perceived slight, even if it's imaginary one, only existing in their heads.
If you want more recent example, look at Nijisanji EN's Luxiem who used to have huge CN audiences but lost 90% of them seemingly randomly, some of the controversies being pure misunderstandings.

Lol at doubled. EN to this day hasn't even come close to the same level of success. Pekora alone has had more viewed minutes than all of EN1 combined. JP gen 3 has more viewed minutes than all of EN and ID combined. The only EN member to consistently get 20k+ viewers, is Gura. There's more than 10 JP members that get that. Pekora and Marine get double Gura's viewers and between 3x-25x every other EN/ID member. Suisei, Miko, and Aqua come close to double Gura's viewers. Many others get more or the same amount as her. Marine and Suisei have multiple songs more successful than anyone in EN/ID. Marine has double the total video views of Calli, while Pekora and Suisei have 300k and 150k more respectively. Rushia is still the top superchatted followed close by Pekora then Coco. 7 more JP members fill out the top 10, with Calli at 11.
The reality is that it's never been close. JP3 was the actual explosion in popularity and EN fans just have been a bit deluded and/or biased. Subs are not at all an accurate measure of anything. There are countless youtubers with many more subs than anyone in Hololive, but no one in their right mind would argue they're more popular than Hololive.

The fact that they both identified Coco bringing ARK to Hololive as the moment that united all the generations just shows how influential Coco was during her tenure in Hololive. As a foreigner, Coco brought a completely different perspective at just the right time that broke through social barriers. She was a hardcore ARK evangelist and openly expressed her desire for everyone in Hololive to play it wherever and whenever she could. She was pushy in just the right way to convince the introverted Hololive members to let down their guard a little bit. She also convinced COVER that there was interest in overseas talents joining the company.
Subaru was another one who broke through barriers with her extroverted personality, including hosting Hololive's first collab with a male Vtuber outside the company when she collabed with Maimoto Keisuke from Nijisanji. Management were hesitant and unsure about the potential reaction to Subaru appearing with a male Vtuber from their biggest rival agency, which was totally unprecedented and had never been done before. But Subaru pushed really hard for it and the collab was a big success that helped to promote COVER's image and break down the walls between rival agencies.

im sorry but are they really taht ignorant and stupid? like aqua got into hololive before it was anything, she was pretty much one who made it big. yeah many will claim fubuki is kind of the main girl but for me ive always seen aqua as the poster girl of hololive even . and how they got big. multiple reasons a big reason is actually also the corona lockdown stuff that people where more at home and therefore went to youtube and the likes and that stuff got more attention. collabs with things might have helped a small bit but not that much, it was more that the companies who collabed with them sold more goods because of them that way. but the main explosion of vtubers and especially hololive, was then the english gen came, before there was no en vtuber at all pretty much on youtube (not in companies at least and the ones who did that where all completly unknown if so for most parts) that skyrocketed their popularity since there was english once for once and since it where also the first english group at all not only in hololive but from vtubers in generall, it was that got all the subs and had outside of japan tons of new fans and people who got into it . the people watching en carried also over to many other japanese holomembers from subs then . it also helped that there was still corona lockdown that it exploded that big . everyone saw the insane grow of popularity with the english gen introduction in the vtuber scene . hell wasnt gura the first to reach a million despite beeing the youngest hololive group to that time? im not a fan of gura but the popularity explosion coming with the en gen is a fact. before that they had marketed it basically solely for japan . after the popularity explosion many of the hololive girls tried to pick up english a bit as well , which makes it obviously that they clearly saw that they can get so much more if they would also be able to interact with oversea fans who cant speak japanese. yet aqua was still one of the biggest and most popular hololive girls while not beeing able to speak or understand english at all pretty much lol. pretty much shows how people liked her and wanted to watch her even without her beeing able to understand the english comments.

The holoJP members are all simply humble. Even fubuki and Mio acted the same way at the anime con in New York. They still, in a way, view themselves as not as important than others or to other vtubers. But honestly, I think it's better that way it sorta shows that no form of ego/power trip happens in hololive compared to other groups. From an outward appearance, it makes hololive look so much more positive.

Wow! You are so much more knowledgable about Hololive than the Holomems themselves that you must know what happens inside the company! Congrats! 😂

The only one who is ignorant and stupid is you, if you still don't understand anything about Japanese culture despite supposedly following Aqua since early days (doubt). Japanese talents would never posit themselves as the reason for growth of the company, especially not when it was truly a collaborative effort of dozens of people.
Aqua didn't make Hololive big on her own. Fubuki and Matsuri paved the way for her in China. Aqua did grow to be the biggest in China (and you could maybe argue overall in that specific short period) but she was never the biggest in Japan and she most definitely wasn't leading the company by some big margin like you're trying to imply.
You're also completely ignoring the fact Aqua wasn't as social as some other holomems so even when she had big audiences (she certainly did! was considered first army after all) it didn't necessarily translate to the rest of company. 40k people watching Aqua play Apex #78 doesn't mean Hololive is big because Apex viewers won't tune into other streams. Collabs definitely have more effect than that because they reach out to new audiences who didn't knew vtubers before and could become fans.
tl;dr Aqua is a very important member of Hololive but you're completely wrong by trying to insinuate she is the most important one and claiming she is the one who made Hololive big is a stupidity of absurd levels.
