Towa's deep voice does things to my soul. Its curious that most of the girls who just use their normal voices all the time, are the ones who are more musically inclined.
I imagine a good part of that is because it's not good for your voice to constantly strain it. I remember hearing that one of them had to stop putting on a high-pitched voice to stream because it was hurting her singing voice.
@@zweistein-viervogelIt was suisei, she used to speak in a really high pitch voice but stopped with an announcement about her voice change. Funny how her voice just have been going deeper and deeper since then lol
As a singer, I think it's just easier. There's a lot of breath control that you do while singing that should be applied to talking (projection and such). Just like you can sing in ways that damage your throat, you can also talk in ways that damage your throat. Best to not take any chances. Probably also relates to her accent and dialect. Assuming she's not putting on an act for her character, it's probably very difficult to sustain clear standard Kanto Japanese for an extended period of time when compared with whatever part of Hokkaido she grew up in. Can't be easy to maintain that kind of thing for an extended period if you're not used to it.
Sweet mother of God. I kid you not, that "Like this~" part at 3:06 gave me goosebumps. The good kind of goosebumps, I mean. Like it awakened some kind of primal instinct in my psyche.
I think Lamy's description basically applies to almost all of them, and not just vtubers but all youtubers and TV personalities and alike. You want to project and have energy and be heard so obviously its going to sound a little different then your standard talking voice you'd use offline(common saying is that "the microphone take away half your energy", if you talk like a normal person in a video you sound half asleep). Its totally normal, and the correct thing to do if you're a creator. Very few people can actually put on a fully fake voice and maintain it for hours, it would not only be very hard and take a lot of practice but even then would still be very taxing on your vocal cords. Some will do it more than others and some do change their whole tone, but you can also think about the difference in how you talk to your close friends when excited vs talking to your boss or a stranger, they might sound totally different even though neither of them is really a "fake voice" like how Watame described it. Some people, mostly antis, think that a lot of these girls are out here doing 6 hours continuous of complete voice acting, which even for the most vocally trained of the talents would still be nearly impossible to maintain over the course of months. Which is why certain talents have had a lot more issues with vocal strain and injuries than others when they have a voice farther from their vocal norm or when their vocal norm is one thats just more taxing to put emphasis on. And is why you often see vocal drift towards a more natural voice over the first 6 months. Also interesting to note that you can, over very long periods of time, change your voice to an extent if you use a specific voice long enough and consistently enough, like people forcing their voice to be a little softer or deeper over time until it becomes natural, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the vtubers out there have gradually started to naturally sound more like they do on stream even if they had to try more for it in the beginning.
