One of the best looking e-kits Ive seen.
I feel like when you started this channel is way different you’ve improved way more
I think the best thing about this kit is the potential it has for being used as a hybrid kit in a live setting. Being able to to have a good sounding acoustic kit on stage with good built in internal triggers to push through a good p.a. system sounds pretty awesome. It also looks better than the DDrum alternative to this concept.
What a gorgeous e drum kit. I’m trying to get one of these ATV drum sets and your videos are helping a lot with my choices. Thank you so much Justin, been subscribed since 2015 🤘🏼
Great vid !
I personally like ATV’s take on electronic drum module. I like it’s simplicity and how it sounds. The only grudge I had was the lack of outputs which is now expandable.
That’s a company worth following, since they are not using « proprietary » pads, allowing us to use theirs with other brands. Smart move if you ask me.
But I understand why you don’t really share their vision.
Keep on your good work !
Thanks for uploading. I was very interested to get more details; so thanks for this. They look amazing and I agree on your suggestion to probably combine that shell pack with another module.
The abbreviations of the configurations stand for „standard“ and „expended“, aren’t they? 🤔
Thanks Mike Luke! And yes you are probably correct about the abbreviations, but I couldn't let that go lol.
Love my ATV-Artist with Roland TD17
This kit is just bad ass looking with the best 360 e-cymbals in the market. Pair this with a Pearl Mimic and I would guess you have the best of all worlds. Thanks for your videos Justin. You do a great job of educating us on all thing e-drums! #65Drums
Really glad you got your hands on the kit for a demo session, Std would suffice a purely e-drummer whereas the Exp is for those who would totally re-head the kit for its acoustic properties (duh). The machine gunning snare is such a howler that, agreed, another module IS the best option. An advantage of e-drums is their functional, compact format, so a full-depth acoustic shell seems a waste, it strikes of acoustic envy; which you don’t need if the samples are up to the job!
Hey Justin: can you make a "how 2box can dominate the industry" video. I already have a few ideas if you agree.
1) they should make a smaller drumit3 module . Their module are probably the most acoustic sounding ones out there and its good that it can be used even for other brands but the module being too "heavy duty" might push away some potential buyers.
2) they should make "compact editions" of their kits. Their kits are too wide and not everyone has the space to fit them in. If they make kits that are fit for smaller venues, chances are they are going to tap a wider audience, esp beginners.
Sorry to hijack this vid.
Absolutely agree 2box drumit 3 is still the best module out there and the cheapest.
Bill Perri yes, it works now with every pad on the market, and it triggers good.
But you have to wait for their new module the 2box Drumit 5 mark 2.
Thanks for the review! It's a nice looking kit! I'd buy it if I had that kind of money to spend. 💲💲💲
Hey Justin. Love the channel and keep up the great work!:)
Thanks!
Very interesting that we're in July now, Artist Pro not out yet and ATV called that expander "Ad-10 Expander"... Fingers crossed to a new kit and a new flagship module!
I appreciate your work.
Thanks Aaron!
65 Drums - I agree: your work is greatly appreciated. And nice Nightwing shirt too!!!
I love that one! Keep going brother! 👊
I wish it will be reasonably priced. Oh, and I loooove that orange color.
I hope they will sell the pads individually. All I need are the rack and floor toms to add to my TD-50 with Digital Snare, Digital Ride and TD-180 kick to make it look full acoustic and hot 😎
I freaking love those drum shells.
They do look sweet
Such a nice kit great playing as well
Thanks dude!
Great vid Justin, I saw you trying out the 2box drumsets at NAMM :D
Hey that's awesome man! Should have said hi :)
65 Drums I know, but you were filming and talking with the 2box guy, I tried to find you again but didn’t see you after that. Hope to see you next year!
You stated EXACTLY what i was thinking. There mantra was keeping things simple and now they have all these added components that make it more complicated. In the end, it's something that would have been simple features from the start that they have now complicated with having to add-on additional gear. More outputs, is that complicated?, no. Additional inputs, is this complicated? no. Basic added effects (Reverb maybe compression), is this complicated? no. Now they have complicated these simple things with extra gear that would have to be carried around to use.
Look, I understand them not allowing endless tweaking of the sounds like Roland or some other modules but simple things like reverb, eq and compression would have been simple enough for the average edrum user. They can leave tuning and other sound modifications that degrade the original samples out of it.
At this point, they know what their consumers are asking for and could have just left the ATV AD5 as is for people who wanted to keep it ultra simple, then introduced a new module with these features. Between the ipad interface, atv ad5 and extender, along with any other added effects it's basically a more complicated Pearl Mimic Pro with less tweak-ability and in my opinion, overall worse sounds.
The module alone is 1100, i wonder how much now this extender is going to be?
Anyway, end rant :)
Maybe their AD6 module will include this expansion device but lets say if you hadnt haad the money to get the new module wouldnt it be a nice option to expand your existing one?
@@OthonasDrums Yeah, it's not a horrible option but i guess also depends on the price of this expansion IO vs. a hypothectical "AD6" :) I just think the customers they targeted the AD5 towards, which is supposed to be simple is now making things more complicated with more equipment to hook up, transport and manage vs. an all-in-one new module.
I’m spoiled. Ever since I’ve heard Superior 3 samples, all modules are disappointing. These look good. I’m impressed by Jobecky. Very nice 4 piece kit about 700£? If I want to convert my set , R-Drum seems like quality I’d look for. The aluminum plus foam cone. Just heard about them having a “shockproof” trigger. Not sure what that’s about. Probably something you should blog about. Thanks, Greg
Awesome review, brother.
Thanks JC!
Great Improvement on the drumming as well my man!!!
Needs to slow down and play a groove.
Looks great but why don't make cymbals for it like jobeky or similar to give it an acoustic kit look!! It looks nice and great review Justin!!
I’d love to have one. That is one good looking kit. Did sound a bit machine gunny. But i could live with it until I could buy a mimic.
Michael, The machine-gunning you might be hearing is because the audio feed to the camera is from a mixer that was EQ’d and mixed to sound the best on the on the PA. NAMM has some insanely difficult conditions to deal with, like a constant 90+ decibel noise floor. Drums EQ’d to cut through a constant low-end wall of sound.
Mike Snyder I agree Mike how are you? I met you guys at namm last year and was having trouble playing the kit because of all the back round noise so I can attest to what your saying hope you guys had a blast and I still love the module I play on it all the time my channels full of covers using the ad5
Mike Stein - Hello Mike, how are you? It was a great show. The new drums where are loved by customers and dealers I like. But, right now I’m super tired!
Be well my friend.
Bill Perri - Yes, the aD5 is available and we are updating the software and still adding sound to the atv sound store! store.atvcorporation.com
Bad trigger setup IMHO..., listen to other videos around such as Drumtec demos, you'll be amazed
Of course there's going to be lots of boxes and stuff at the atv booth to show how it all works with each scenario.
That is true, but I thought it also was a good illustration. Of the fact you NEED that stuff to use the drumset to its full potential.
@@65Drums When you don't have a drum module to compete with sophisticated high-end modules from other manufacturers, you spin it that you want things to be "simple." :)
Great Job as always Justin!! I just ordered the ATV Artist snare to replace the Roland 128...I cant get used to the hot spotting on my snare, doesn't bother me as much on the toms...
I played the artist kit last year at namm it really was pretty awesome would have loved to try this one:)
I think this kit with the 50 brain or 30 would me amazing
So now what. Buy R-Drum triggers for 800$ , plus mesh heads. and have to do all the work or buy a nice Jobecky for the cost of R triggers alone and no work and includes heads. I like the Jobeck cymbals, no noise with holes. I watched your review on them. If I go Jobecky then I’ll have a dedicated edrum kit AND my acoustic set. Plus I can make them a mirror image of each other. No learning curve. I’ll probably use the TD-17 for the price and of course Superior 3. The Ludwig 70’s kit , preset, is so good that it alone is worth the upgrade money!!
When will this set come out?!?
Sounds were nice. Tom's sound fun but only as one 20 or so other options. I would want this patch on any ekit to have avaiable.
Justin, thanks for the information. I'm looking to upgrade from the Yamaha DTX502 and was looking at the ATV Ad5. One of the reasons was because of the compatibility with everything. You mentioned the Alesis Strike module. Do you know if that is compatible with Yamaha cymbals? Also I have a DIY kit with side mounted triggers. Do you know how that would with the Strike?
Could we, um... go over those kit versions again?
STD LOL great first impressions, Justin! as you say it's a kit for those who want a decent acoustic kit as well as electronic
Great video Justin.
iOS is more secure and easier to make apps since Apple has a streamlined help center-that helps creators make apps easier and faster and encourages them to create more revenue.
The RJ45 is also on the Pearl Mimic Pro so maybe (I hope) will have that expansion for future along with the software that is development to coexist with the Mimic Pro later. Pearl also has a SD card reader.
Having the option to switch is tempting because I can use that but I’m wondering how the cones will effect tone from the heads. I’m really interested in this but do not want to pay extra for wraps. I would probably buy different stands if I could just get the shell pack with cymbals.
The black ATV is birch shells if you want to know.
Thanks I didn't know what type of shells the baseline artist series was
Sounds aside 😝 how does it compare playability wise day to a TD50. Trying to get our drummer and sound guy to buy into electric for a medium sized church verses a fish aquarium (both). I think the looks will help me sell the I idea. With maybe a TD30
Justin... if I go with a edrum kit like the ATV or Drum Tec, which company do you prefer that has ready to go kits? Not the module just the actual kit.
Thinking about the ATV Artist Expanded kit with the Pearl Mimic Pro module. I don't see where that color or any color other than the default black is available. Is that a wrap from a third party vendor?
Hi.
My name is Pedro, I'm from Argentina and I see your tutorials because I like the way you explain it and also because I like you, the electronic batteries with acoustic appearance.
I'm about to buy a Roland module and I do not decide between a TD17 or a TD 30.
I have an acoustic drum with 5 bodies, 10,12,16, 14 and 20, and I would like to turn it into electronics to get the best possible sound without losing the benefits of touch and sensitivity.
I would appreciate it if you could indicate which would be the ideal form and what components you would have to buy, (in the case of mesh patches, what piezos or triggers for a given module)
and what piezos, triggers or controller in the case of cymbals and Hi Hat.
If you already have a video that explains how to arm yourself with some of the modules that I mentioned, I would appreciate it if you passed the link; otherwise, I will thank you very much and will tell me how to proceed step by step, given that I need to have to buy it for Ebay or similar, because in Argentina we do not have access to so much diversity of products.
Thank you very much and a big hug. Pedro
Manuel Garcia Pedro, if you are able to afford a TD-30 go for it. But if you aren’t able to the TD-17 is great as well.
Great review as always bro! I've been rocking with you when you only had 10K Subs! hey, what camera do you use to vlog?
Hey thanks dude! I use a Cannon 80d
@@65Drums Thanks bro!
I would of already bought this module+expanded kit if it supported rims on toms.
I don't care about the rims myself, but I do agree that is a limitation.
That is some very weird looking maple. Almost looks to me like mahogany. I wonder how good its going to sound with the trigger cones on a regular head.
Can't say I love that orange color? Just a plain Maple wrap, matte or with clear coat would've been more palatable IMO but as a stand alone kit it seems legit. Probably will cost too much though. Sad
SiREN-DRUMS - Final color will be a walnut finish on Maple wood.
can you prechoke the cymbals (hold cymbal) while hitting the cymbal to get a different sound like on the yamaha dtx700/900?
and as with the yamaha, can you press the high hat in further to make it raise in pitch slightly like an acoustic high hat?
(and idk if yamaha does it, but itd be nice if the same applied to drum heads, how pressing the stick into the head and applying a bit of pressure while hitting it with the other stick changes the pitch)
I don't get the hate for the ad5 drum module, i think its a fantastic drum module. Its sounds great ,its super easy to use and its got some of the best triggering i have seen in a module. My only real gripe with the ad5 is the fact it uses a cable snake but so do most other modules in its price range. Call me crazy but i like to play the drums not mess with the module for hours on end cause i'm not a sound engineer. I'm sure the mimic is great but from what i have seen it has a huge learning curve and that turned me off to it.
As far as these pro adrums go i think they should have just added more sizes and color options to the artist kit rather than trying to make an overpriced hybrid kit ,just stick to ekits if i want to play an acoustic kit i'll just get an acoustic kit,i don't want to change drum heads every time i need to go acoustic,i would rather just have a separate acoustic kit and an ekit. I also suspect that these pro adrums won't sound too good as acoustic because the trigger stuff inside will mess with the acoustics but thats only a guess because theres do acoustic demo of them.
I don't think many people actually hate it. The aD5 just serves a certain audience. It's all about simplicity.
Maybe a stupid question but can I still play music through the module into my headphones and play along?
I'm guessing these never released?
For the acoustic side of this...won't the foam cones muffle the sound somewhat?
Divergent Drums - Yes they do. More often than not, snare drums use some kind of muffling on them. If you need a super ringy drum, just trigger it.
@@MikeSnyderDrums So the trigger cones provide internal muffling? I actually like that! I almost always muffle my snare, for a good fat sound😃
Divergent Drums Think of the money saved by not having to buy moon gel! 😃
@@MikeSnyderDrums That's a good point!
Any idea when these will be available?
Justin when will the cymbals with holes will be available?
Art Sal - The aD-C17FX cymbal will be available in a few months.
iOS logically comes first becaue it was the first but mostly it is standardized. There is conformity to its programming and only a couple models each year.
I believe the imported samples can only have 4 layers
iOS is simply where the money is, for developers. Those users monetize at a much higher rate than the “I demand a free phone” crowd.
Where is the pro being sold I can only find the artist
It's just been announced, not being sold yet
RIP
Where can i buy a drum set like this
UncleScRuFF - Where are you located?
UncleScRuFF - edrumcenter.com, Kraft Music, Sweetwater all sell into Canada, sorry, no direct dealer in Canada.
This kit is not out yet.
Update: Might arrive in the US late August to September. 👍🏼
M-M-M-MACHINE GUN
Which module would you use?
On my personal set I have a Roland TD30
Yeh my band weren’t keen on the processed sounds that’s why I switched to ATV but the sound library is very limited. No brush kits for a start!
Gotta say man you look pretty rad behind a full kit like that (7pc with array of cymbals)... 2019 A to E revamp??? Lol jk I know that would cost so much money it's not even funny
SiREN-DRUMS - At the beginning of the video, that is what he is indeed sitting behind.
The set is incredibly fun to play, very similar experience to the baseline artist series. But of course, this one looks cooler :)
@@65Drums I wish you could play my kit one day :) of course once it's at full potential lol (must have all ATV cymbals)
Hey can anyone rolling through the comments suggest a good 300usd drum set new.ur used please ..
Appreciate it
Jay Shah Not really any will be good at that price, they would either break within a year or will be terrible sound wise.
@@EvilSewnit I have software
Id say at that price you would be better off with a use yamaha dtxplorer, that was my first edrum kit and its actually pritty good
And I think it’s £4000 the uk
What's that wood rim on the snare?
Its for crosstick
what he said
@@65Drums Thanks much. I know it's function. I meant to ask: would you happen to know what model and/or vendor it is? Is it sold separately?
@@davidbcg286 It's built into all ATV snares, very important part of the ATV drumsets. Not sold separately to my knowledge.
Price?
Not sure yet, still unreleased
Hahahaha STD hahahahahaha I think I'll pass on that
SiREN-DRUMS use a 3ply head. You’ll be ok.
Really too bad because that ATV brain just sounds soooo bad. It's like listening to a drum set played on an old 80's keyboard.
