im beginning to like ATV, as a electric drummer since the TD10 session, ive owned loads of kits. ATV seem to be causing waves in the electronic drums market and that's what we have been needing for years, Im buying the artist pro only because Im liking the look of acoustic drums, but this EXS5 would be my contender for a decent practice kit and something I can take out to jam with my friends and the occasional small gig. I wouldn't touch roland with a barge pole now, spent way to much money with them in the past, those days are gone, a pearl mimic with an Artist pro would be my favorite setup.
I own the ad5 ,the pros are the drum sounds are very realistic and the dynamics are also very realistic,its also very easy to set up thanks to the set up and crosstalk wizards(something that should be on every drum module imo) in short if you want to play drums and not spend all your time messing around with the module this is for you. If you want lots of editing abilities go with roland or the mimic. The cons of the ad5 are you have to pay extra for sounds,there's only 5 kits and it has a cable snake(i hate cable snakes)i wish it had more inputs as well also a metronome would be nice. Overall i'm happy with the ad5,i almost got the mimic but the learning curve scared me away,it looks very complicated and others have said there's a steep learning curve so that was why i went with the ad5. Hope this was helpful for someone looking at the ad5 or this new atv kit.
The kick pad looks massive and nice review Justin!! Namm looks pretty cool!! In Frankfurt the have a music expo every year too!! I would love to see you do some covers sometime!!
For 2500 dollars this kit looks pretty good. Big bass drum, quality mesh, good cymbal quality and sizes (14 inch hi-hats nice) and a decent sounding drum module. However, with the Roland TD17KVX and the Alesis Strike Pro around I doubt it'll sell too well, atleast in the US.
As usual great video. Moving up from my Roland 9 and I was pretty set on a Roland kit until I looked at the ATV kits. This model would appeal to me, as I do not want to mess with all the setting- I just want to sit down and play a decent sounding set. Thanks again!

Curious - are the pads/triggers the same as what is in their Artist series? Thinking about picking up this kit and playing through the module for awhile and if I don't like the sounds, going straight to Superior Drummer 3 (I'm assuming that is 100% possible through the USB port...). I don't really care about having the full shells, but would like pad triggers that are on par with their higher end kits. Great. Subscribed. Hoping you may be able to make a recommendation for me here...... I have Hart Dynamics triggers (the TE3.2 hand-hammered chrome drums) with eCymbal II main crash and ride and a Roland VH11 HH. I sold my TD20 and will eventually get the 30 or 50. For now though I need to accomplish trigger to midi interfacing to my MacBook Pro with no need to generate sound within the interface. I just need the midi data to get to the computer....preferably thru USB. The two very most important things to me in this are the ability to capture the expressiveness of the HH and snare. (HH - chicking, chinging, closed pressure sensivity, and the many levels of between open and closed (at MINIMUM - the many levels of open to closed like for sizzling etc..) (SD - ability to use brushes, positional sensing, etc..) Now.....knowing that even a TD30 (easily obtainable for a $1000 or less) is not even within my budget.....what are the best alternatives that you may know of? A simple interface only or a module of some sort, either one. Doesn't matter to me. Well, I guess I would need a pretty deep editing capability within the interface/module with regard to how the interface/module is reacting to the triggers. I'm sure you know all the assorted parameters I am talking about.....the ones that allow you to really dial the kit in to respond the way you need it to respond. Thank you.

That's a great option. It all depends on what you're looking for. If u prefer simplicity and plug 'n play, don't bother going on that way. But if you like and prefer adapting and mixing the sounds to your own taste, then go for it. I'm not even talk about pad sizes because I'm pretty sure that most of drummers prefer the almost-like acoustic size, but yea

Your right. That does remind me of a TD-30 kit. I am not too crazy about the snare sound. The cymbals sound great. I would love to hook that kit up to my TD-17 module. It would be awesome ! On another note ( pun intended ) it's a tough call between that kit and the Alesis Strike Pro . For $2500 , do you go for the quality and pad size of ATV or do you go with the ASP with some quality issues but a killer module ? I am new to the world of edrums and you have been a tremendous resource for me on what I now see can be a complicated ( and expensive ! ) endeavor. I personally would go with the ATV and get a better module. Thanks for the great vids !!
Yes , the TD-17 is awesome. BUT, I found that by taking the time to customize each pad , you can create killer kits. The 50 preset kits it comes with are hit and miss like most modules. The magic happens with the 50 user kit slots ! With this module you can import your own sounds and you can layer sounds on each pad. I did listen to the sounds on the Drum Tec version of the 17 and I love them but you can get comparable sounds by customizing and creating your own kits. Plus it is a lot of fun playing with all the different effects. Make sure you get an SD card (32mb) to save all your work ! I bought mine from Zzounds.com . They have an awesome interest free pay as you play plan and you get the kit in 2 days ! You can choose 4 , 8 or 12 monthly payments. I almost bought the Alesis Strike kit but I read too many negative reviews. I want to play ! Just not with customer service every day ! Good luck to you and have fun with whatever you choose.
No I don't have any vids yet but there are plenty out there . And yes , I have an extremely varied taste in music . I love old Motown , some bubble gum pop from the 60s , progressive rock , hardcore punk from the 70s & 80s , some classic rock and even some classical. Yes has always been one of my faves and I have seen them live over 25 times. Siberian Khatru is a great song to play along with .In fact , my drumming style was heavily influenced by Alan White. If you want to learn how to play different time signatures and cool off beat grooves , I would recommend emulating him and play along with Yes tracks that he is on. Bruford is also phenomenal but is very very hard to follow. White has more of a groove and not as many crazy off time beats. I have certainly developed my own style but you can hear his influence from time to time. I also love hardcore. Dead Kennedys for sure but so many others. I used to go to CBGBs just about every Sunday back in the early 80s. They had a hardcore matinee at 1pm every weekend. I saw so many bands there. Just a few of them were Suicidal Tendencies , Butthole Surfers , Bad Brains , Adrenaline Overdose , Antidote , Cromags , Big Black, Circle Jerks and The Nihilistics. Those were some great shows !!! One of my favorite things about the TD-17 is that you can pull up any song you want on youtube and play along to it with the Bluetooth feature. There are tons of drumless tracks you can download into the module with an sd card. Play your own drum track and record it . Sweet !!
There is no reason to buy a strike. No cracking plates, no cymbals breaking on this kit. I own a full set of ATV AH cymbals they are amazing. I actually have a bell on my ride now. 2500 is a great price for this. They need to get this everywhere in the USA.

For me, looks like a much more affordable option to the full size Adrums line. I don't mind the dry sounds, because I can get all my effects from my DAW. Does the module have a ATV link port?
I've spoken with ATV, who told me that the module does NOT have an ATV link port. However, the kit will work with the AD5 module, which does have the ATV link port.
One thing I don't get about the reviews on this is the debate on the sounds. Unless you're just sitting in a corner playing just the module thru headphones you're going to be able to add reverb, compression, ect at the board live or DAW recording. They have very good acoustic sounds compared to ANY Roland which are brutal. They still aren't quite VST, but pretty damn close.
You have the choice : go for the TD17KVX for 1600 € and you'll have small pads and cymbals or go for this one with big pads and cymbals but only few sounds (1900€) The best settings is EXS-5 with the TD17 module , it is 2200 € at Drum Tec the german company. Some people will say : huh, you still don't have positional sensing ! OK, so go for a used TD30, I have seen one for 3000 € !
I like it. It seems like a good software controller. Are the cymbals chokable? Rolands are a bit thick, but some of that is probably the chokable edge.
I’m actually more excited by releases like this compared to another 8000$ set that we seem to be getting every week. I didn’t like the sounds in the video though, they should have a purchase option without the module like the aDrums.
Good video. But the main point is, all the drums are dual trigger, the module by ATV DOES NOT supports it right out of the box, the toms do not, the Snare does have dual support. Hence, why many people will use, and can find for a TD-17 Roland module which then supports the dual trigger of the rim/head and give your more flexibility/expandability and better sound resources. Easy swap and more support for custom sounds etc..Literally plug/play with several other modules which is the good news of ATV. Hardware is solid. Built/started by the master from Roland originally who started this company.
Michael O'Connell Drums it has a usb , it actually has the midi connector but it's not functional yet but the module will also trigger software faster than Roland's but when it comes to cymbals sounds Atv has the best every bit as good as sd ezdrummer etc and certainly better than Roland's sounds
Funny, I was thinking that it would be an upgrade in sounds from my dtx 502 too. The only thing is, I have four cymbals. I'm waiting to hear back to see if the input for Cymbal 2 can be split to have a single zone crash and single zone China
TD17KVX -more sounds -more editing options -sample importing -around $600 cheaper iirc EXS 5 -bigger pads and cymbals -greater dynamic range -better triggering on both pads and cymbals -extremely simple to use module regarding sound, i prefer the xD3 module over the TD17, but its a matter of preference, really. which one is better depends on your personal preferences as well; if you like editing sounds, fiddling with the settings to get the perfect sound, then TD17-KVX all the way. if you want to spend less money, then TD-17KVX it is. however, if you want bigger pads/cymbals and a slightly more realistic drumming experience and dont mind paying an extra $600 for those, then the EXS-5 should be your choice. btw you can get 4 extra kits for free on ATV's website, so you actually have 9 kits on the module.
@@GoulartGH Perfect review. I started with a Td-17kv. basically now have a Td-30k with a Ad5, buying and selling pads on ebay over a years time. There are a few things I miss in the Td-17. But for me it was all about the sounds and velocity that came with the aD5. However, I can totally see why many would prefer the 17 flexibility and number of sounds in the Td-17. really a matter of taste. Your review is the best comparison I have seen.

From what I've heard the millennium, whilst really cheap, is obviously cheap when you play it. I'm tempted with one as I only need it for practice between band practice, but I'm still a little apprehensive after reading reviews.
At $2500, the Drum-Tec Rock Jam kit with a TD-17 module is still better buy. Full drums won't take up more space but is way more versatile. The drum sounds with Drum-Tec handmade drums, the Drum-Tec triggers and the included "LIVE" Sound Edition. At $2500? The Roland TD-17 is way cheaper with 50 different drum sounds.
Racks have their advantages though, more compact, easier to move etc. The atv heads have 3 triggers which eliminates hotspot, and the Drum-Tec rock has side triggers, which aren't as good imo. The Drum-tec looks a lot nicer but the exs-5 has 360° cymbals that are bigger and way better to play, not to mention the 2-piece 14" hi-hat. In the U.K the exs-5 is £1799 and the drum-tec jam-rock iz £2700.
DaveSeeMeRollin: I think the Drum-Tec Jam kit with the Diabolo snare and bass is excellent. You get the position sensitive snare and bass trigger, which is a center trigger cone type with bigger toms. You don't get hot spotting with the Diabolo pads. The side triggers work perfectly for the toms combined with the TD30. Still a way better deal.
Snare sounds terribly artificial; bass drum sounds like afloor tom; this for $ 2000.00 ?? Maybe they need to pay more attention to setup of display sets unless this is all there is to them yuk

Unless you're just sitting in a corner playing just the module thru headphones you're going to be able to add reverb, compression, ect at the board live or DAW recording. They have very good acoustic sounds compared to ANY Roland which are brutal. They still aren't quite VST, but pretty damn close.
How did you mount that gong drum? I want to do that with a DS pancake 29” drum and put an Rt30 k on it.

You have the choice : go for the TD17KVX for 1600 € and you'll have small pads and cymbals or go for this one with big pads and cymbals but only few sounds (1900€) The best settings is EXS-5 with the TD17 module , it is 2200 € at Drum Tec the german company. Some people will say : huh, you still don't have positional sensing ! OK, so go for a used TD30, I have seen one for 3000 € !
I like it. It seems like a good software controller. Are the cymbals chokable? Rolands are a bit thick, but some of that is probably the chokable edge.
There is no rims zones on toms are mono.
Justin, is the Roland 17 KVX the only E Drum module that uses blue tooth, it’s the only one I know about.

I’m actually more excited by releases like this compared to another 8000$ set that we seem to be getting every week. I didn’t like the sounds in the video though, they should have a purchase option without the module like the aDrums.

Good video. But the main point is, all the drums are dual trigger, the module by ATV DOES NOT supports it right out of the box, the toms do not, the Snare does have dual support. Hence, why many people will use, and can find for a TD-17 Roland module which then supports the dual trigger of the rim/head and give your more flexibility/expandability and better sound resources. Easy swap and more support for custom sounds etc..Literally plug/play with several other modules which is the good news of ATV. Hardware is solid. Built/started by the master from Roland originally who started this company.

Michael O'Connell Drums it has a usb , it actually has the midi connector but it's not functional yet but the module will also trigger software faster than Roland's but when it comes to cymbals sounds Atv has the best every bit as good as sd ezdrummer etc and certainly better than Roland's sounds

Funny, I was thinking that it would be an upgrade in sounds from my dtx 502 too. The only thing is, I have four cymbals. I'm waiting to hear back to see if the input for Cymbal 2 can be split to have a single zone crash and single zone China

regarding sound, i prefer the xD3 module over the TD17, but its a matter of preference, really.
which one is better depends on your personal preferences as well; if you like editing sounds, fiddling with the settings to get the perfect sound, then TD17-KVX all the way. if you want to spend less money, then TD-17KVX it is.
however, if you want bigger pads/cymbals and a slightly more realistic drumming experience and dont mind paying an extra $600 for those, then the EXS-5 should be your choice.
btw you can get 4 extra kits for free on ATV's website, so you actually have 9 kits on the module.
@@GoulartGH Perfect review. I started with a Td-17kv. basically now have a Td-30k with a Ad5, buying and selling pads on ebay over a years time. There are a few things I miss in the Td-17. But for me it was all about the sounds and velocity that came with the aD5. However, I can totally see why many would prefer the 17 flexibility and number of sounds in the Td-17. really a matter of taste. Your review is the best comparison I have seen.

From what I've heard the millennium, whilst really cheap, is obviously cheap when you play it. I'm tempted with one as I only need it for practice between band practice, but I'm still a little apprehensive after reading reviews.

At $2500, the Drum-Tec Rock Jam kit with a TD-17 module is still better buy. Full drums won't take up more space but is way more versatile. The drum sounds with Drum-Tec handmade drums, the Drum-Tec triggers and the included "LIVE" Sound Edition.
At $2500? The Roland TD-17 is way cheaper with 50 different drum sounds.
Racks have their advantages though, more compact, easier to move etc. The atv heads have 3 triggers which eliminates hotspot, and the Drum-Tec rock has side triggers, which aren't as good imo. The Drum-tec looks a lot nicer but the exs-5 has 360° cymbals that are bigger and way better to play, not to mention the 2-piece 14" hi-hat. In the U.K the exs-5 is £1799 and the drum-tec jam-rock iz £2700.
DaveSeeMeRollin: I think the Drum-Tec Jam kit with the Diabolo snare and bass is excellent. You get the position sensitive snare and bass trigger, which is a center trigger cone type with bigger toms. You don't get hot spotting with the Diabolo pads. The side triggers work perfectly for the toms combined with the TD30. Still a way better deal.

Snare sounds terribly artificial; bass drum sounds like afloor tom; this for $ 2000.00 ?? Maybe they need to pay more attention to setup of display sets unless this is all there is to them yuk
