I liked you cat pic better :(
@@VeryCrunchyPretzels Unfortunately that cat died last summer.
@@BadnikMechanic I'm sorry that happened. I hope you enjoyed the cat while it was there.
tbh we were on the Barry island bus waaay sooner, I remember playing Sonic 1 and Castle of illusion (and getting some free sega laces)
They said Sonic didn't need a car.. So they gave him a bus instead.
I went on a Sega Bus in 1994, I presume it was at the FES in Olympia. I won a Sonic & Knuckles competition (the game had literally just come out) and won a t-shirt. I do still have the t-shirt, no idea where it is though.
Edit: hey, that's me at 12:42!
Aaayyy that's awesome
Nice to know! :D
Cool!
That's sonic
...
Cool!
They gotta add these bus's to team sonic racing as DLC!!!!
They better
Lol
Genius
*F&CKING GENUIS!!!!*
Where do u get such tremendous ideas?!
double decker bus racing, thats a pretty cool idea
tails from 1:01 IT CAME FROM THE GREEN HELL ZONE
I really wish I'd actually made that a Green Hell moment.
@@BadnikMechanic Your Green Hell jokes never get old!
Well I needed green hell zone 2. The first was a thriller!
i thought the shadow from the tree on the bus in the thumbnail and at 7:00 was blood lol
Or the Bootleg Hell Zone
Just want to say, love your documentary videos like this, all the childhood feels! Keep up the great work! :D
I remember back in 2000-2002 there was an Xbox truck that did this at the local fairgrounds in my area of the US. Wish they still did these type of promotions
That’s was great. It made me laugh knowing that a bus with sonic on it entered a race lmao
I used to work for Sega in Australia and we used to have the Sega Roadshow as well. But instead of a bus, we used to have a collapsible setup that you could put on the back of a truck.that had about 12 consoles all set in a type of junkyard/industrial outfit. Because of this setup, we could place the roadshow in the middle of a large court yard inside any shopping center that allowed for this space. This allowed us to get maximum exposure. We also for about a year, we did this partnership with one of the major basketball franchises and traveled to different schools where some of the players would teach the kids basketball while we had the opportunity to promote Sega.
yeah that wouldnt work in uk, we have something called rain lol
13:50 Those cosplays are really creepy....
They came from the Green Hell Zone & Knuckles.
ZOMG MASTER
I know they look good...but they look like empty souls...something about those costume's odd...I think is just me...
In the bright side, they do look good...Too bad I was born in 2004...I'd like to go on a Sega Bus.
I am can't believe there was something like that years ago here in the UK even with Mario & Sonic at Olympic Games and Metro Mania bus which is a shame I never see it once in my whole life.
My reaction: 15:50 to 16:33 Wait what? *Laughing* XD
But there is one more question, Why is the Sega Bus on Ebay?!
I went on the Sega Bus when it visited Southampton Balloon Festival back in 1992 and 1994. The 1992 visit was in early July, before the release of Sonic 2, so that game was not present. However there was a Sonic 1 high score competition on the top deck. You had to get the best time in about 5/10 minutes; I managed an impressive ZERO points as I died just before the time ended. Even if I hadn't died, I still wouldn't have got anywhere near the winning score. I was so used to playing with Atari ST / Amiga one button joysticks back then and just couldn't get the hang of console pads!
However I did much better in 1994 when I won twice. One the bottom deck were various Sega Megadrive games. I remember playing Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition with only the stock 3 button controller (!). On the top deck, I competed in a Virtua Racing competition on the Beginner course (best lap I think). It was the Megadrive version of the game and me and a friend had been renting it from Blockbusters, so we knew how to play it pretty well. The first win was solely against a bunch of much younger kids who had never played the game before. On the second ocassion, my friend was present and he beat my time, however we were both declared winners. My prize both times was a white Sonic t-shirt with an utterly hideous design! I remember giving one of them away to some other kids as I went home from the show....
There would have been a third visit at the same show in 1995 however the bus had a power failure and left before setting up. An ominous sign of things to come for Sega. :(
The highlight of course was the 1994 visit. The Sega Bus, playing games in the arcade and all the hot air balloons going up to end the Balloon show. That never happened in subsequent years either due to poor weather or busy skies from the nearby airport. There was even a Sonic The Hedgehog balloon that year! :)
My heart skips a beat when I see you have a new video
I was getting ready to comment here with my Sega Bus memories, until I noticed my 2008 comments on the Sega Bus visiting Liverpool and Camelot was already in the video...
Nice video all round though, nice to have all the information in one place :)
I went on one of these at the Dagenham Town Show in 96/97 it was all Saturn stuff then also the double decker was black with Sega and Sonic plastered all over it.
I went on a Sega Bus at the Halton Show, around 1995. They had a bunch of 32X's linked up with Virtua Racing. Everyone on the bus played in a race together, the winner got a prize and everyone else got a goodie bag.
I'll never forget nearly fainting when I saw that double decker with Sonic painted on the side, was at my local pier in Southport. Was so fun playing some Sonic 2 and winning a t-shirt and some Sega sunglasses 😁
I died laughing when the double decker bus racing came up. The Sonic 3 invincibility tune nailed it.
Double decker bus racing! What?!
LETS MEET KNUCKLES CHILDREN. HE MAY SAY NO TO SMOKING BUT YES TO A GOOD SNIFF OF....
let's just stop there
I went on the bus that was parked up at a boot fair and I pestered my parents at the time to go it. Downstairs on the bus they had the Mega Drives and a Game Gear with different games on each console. I remember they had Desert Strike and a Mickey Mouse game and after 5-10 minutes you were taken upstairs to take part in the Sonic 2 high score competition. To my surprise I won the competition and was give a white t-shirt with the Golden Axe Viking character on the front with the words "To be this good takes ages" and on the back it said " To be this good takes Sega" . I still have the T-shirt but no longer have the goodie bag that contained the Pirate TV dog tags.
I appreciate the train joke

Sega's in 2 action seems to be happening in London or Barcelona
Just a guess on the pictures
By the way does anyone know the statue in the background maybe we could do something and get information
Its devastating that busses this cool has been, left to rot, scrapped,
or even incinerated. I wish Sega will do something like this again.
the roadshow bus is REALLY cool! i like how the inside has sega genesis games that you can play!
It came to our school a few times in Bath and used to park outside McDonald's on Saturday. Sonic 2 was available to play before the release, but it was due to be released only 2 weeks later on what they called "Sonic Twosday" (yeah it was a Tuesday lol)
You are all on that Smash Hype Train.

Man, SEGA always does ultra cool stuff in Japan and the UK, but hardly in the US! Luckily, we did get that mega rad Walt Disney World EPCOT partnership back in the mid-90s, where SEGA essentially took over the entirety of either North or South Innoventions, I can't remember which. They had demos and promo stantees, there was a massive kiosk with multiple Saturns playing a NiD demo with a huge NiGHTS cutout hanging from above- man, I wish I could have been there, both for that and for the park itself, since EPCOT was still cool then and not... a proto failed Magic Kingdom clone. If you're ever starved for video ideas, that's one I know I'd personally love to see.
It originally predates 1992 because I visited one of the buses in 1990/1 at Flambards theme park, Cornwall. Sonic 1 was the game upstairs, and no t-shirts to win, but a pair of sonic sunglasses!
What if its like the fancy buses with like tvs and lights outsides them? But don't forget about the first knuckles costume, Hugh...
IT CAME FROM THE GREEN HILL ZONE 3 & KNUCKLES
So I don't know if anyone's already commented this but the Pico bus visited schools, daycare centers, children's hospitals, and retailers (malls, libraries, etc) in more than 10 cities and had 14 Pico consoles inside the bus for kids to play. They had employees help the kids with the console if they were having any trouble. Like the Sega roadshow bus it would give out goods to whomever visited. All of this information is from the Sega website from Dec. 20, 1996 along with an image of it. (Web archive). As for how long the Pico bus was visiting places I have no idea since the same article was on the website until 1999 and got removed when they changed the website for the Dreamcast's arrival.
No mention of the Sega Saturn coach? Similar to the sega buses here but it was a double deck coach all blacked out even the windows with Sega Saturn logo plastered along the side. Inside was all black carpet and top deck had saturns + tvs along the side with dingy lighting. Bottom deck I remember there being a mega drive running toy story nobody wanted to play it if i remember lol.
I'm from Brighton uk and I remember it parked up by the Palace pier for about a week. Me and my mate would play sega rally on it after school as our school was nearby (middle street primary). This would of been in 96 - 97.
Does anyone else remember this Sega Saturn coach?
Also I think it's a great idea that you said in the chat
I remember seeing these sega busses also in the comics and wishing they would stop by.
Man I love the 90s! I was born in 1991 (Sonic’s year) 👌but with these tour buses and events it makes me wish I was born a little earlier to experience these unique cool things!
it was magical .. first time you got arcade quality stuff at home, really. Now im making a megadrive game
I some how found this, so now you got me looking through some old boxes to help give you more info from some of the Sega Roadshows that were run by Capital Radio in London in 1993 and 1994. I have a T-shirt that is different from the one in the video. The concept of the buses were the same but the competitions they ran meant if you won on the day of the roadshow you got to go on stage (and on radio) and play games vs a celebrity. I will tell you more once I can find any more merchandise etc etc.
Like the Sonic Statue I would like to see the Sega in 2 Action bus be restored and put to a gaming museum.
I don't think this is quite related, but I remember seeing in a music video images of a Sega event in Spain during the 90s, during a kind of party that's held for kids every year called "La Festa dels Supers". I can't tell you much more, I just remember that they had arcades or games you could play there... Thought you would find it interesting.
This is the most interesting video I've seen in a long time. Great work lad, keep it up!
This is interesting and all but DOUBLE DECKER BUS RACING?? Who wants to watch Nascar when you can see Double Decker Bus racing
I never got to ride the bus cause I live in America but if I knew about these buses. You can believe me that I so would have loved to check out those buses!
It was in Mablethorpe in summer of 1993 and the prize for winning was a sonic pin badge.
Thanks for the input Dave
God I love these videos, SEGA's history is such an interesting topic, and I adore your genuine enthusiasm when talking about this stuff~
I remember that bus when I was a kid, in Barry in South Wales
Badnik Mechanic: We don't have footage of Knuckles.
*not even a day later*
Badnik Mechanic: I'm doing a follow up video!
It's not my fault! I just found it!
Fantastic, I was starting to think I was dreaming that I went on one of these.
But the video has my memories confused. In my mind, I went on one of the "On the road" buses as the design seems very familiar. Downstairs it had various Sonic games. Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic CD were definitely there. I remember playing Sonic 3 as it was the newest at the time (So I'm guessing it was 1994) and there were possibly more games, I can't recall. It was pretty cramped downstairs, I remember that!
Upstairs there was a Virtua Racing contest. Unlike the "In2Action" buses, it wasn't against a previously set time, it was a competition on the bus as to who could get the fastest lap time on the beginner course.
I'm also *positive* it was the MegaDrive version, not the 32X version. This could potentially be what happened on the 1994 On the road bus?
My older brother and I won the top prizes, he got first prize which was a yellow t-shirt with a large Sonic on it (I wanted it so much) and second prize were some Sega sunglasses - which I still have today!
I'm unsure if it's my hazy memory or not, but perhaps that fills the gap of what happened in 1994?? Sadly no photographic proof of the event, we were on holiday and came across it by chance.
I wish stuff like this still existed. I can just imagine going on a sega bus to play sonic team racing and persona 5 the royal
So cool! I never knew about these! Sega was so cool back in the day!
I won some sunglasses on a sega bus in the early 90s on a sonic 2 competition. I came second. 🤣🤣 They also had cool spot as a playable game.
I remember seeing adverts for this on tv as a kid. I really wanted to go to one but; when you live on an island and you're at primary school, you're chances dwindle lower than a decimal point.
Still every magazine advertised these buses. I even had a dream once, waiting for the bus to arrive; only to wake up once it arrived and... never again. Even in my sleep, I was too slow :(
Hey badnik I’ve just ran into a SEGA Tours/SEGA roadshow bus from 1993! At the min of this comment being posted it’s outside a pub, it’s been abandoned and re-branded though but I can tell it’s a sega bus by the model
I can record it and upload it to my YT
I went on one at Windsor Safari Park as a kid, they had a challenge to get the high score on Thunder Blade for the Master System, I came first and won a pair of Sega branded shoelaces :D
That's a most useful gift!
This is why Sega is the best! They give us prizes which are practical!
@@BadnikMechanic totally no one ever uses keychains or lanyards that others give away. they go straight in the drawer for the rest of eternity.
i can totally remember going on those busses and having a ton of fun in an alt reality in which im british and 19 years older
"fr**kin aweseome"
Sadly I wasn’t here for this, But great video again!
Can you imagine a kid on one of those buses were insane Nintendo fans.
seeing these just makes me wish I was born before the sega take over in the UK cause i would have loved to go to these
I won a racing game on a sega bus, I think it was virtua racing. I've still got the sega sunglasses I won and they still fit! Probably no uv protection ha

@@BadnikMechanic Of course!
Wait I have a feeling I've seen one of those buses in real life. Apart of it. In a Pile of trash in a scrap yard. I think it had Sonic face. Holy crap. This when I was a baby.
My son Paul Smith came 2nd 1993 roadshow competition at didcot Williams.i have loads of photos of this event with Chris Evans and violet berlin.
Oh nice one! If you can, try to upload them, would love to see more of what this event was like!
Very interesting video man good job
Way past cool
I remember wishing so hard that I’d get to go to one of these after reading about them in Sonic the Comic. Alas I never did get to one.
1:32 There is a Special Stage Ring, with Green Hill in the background. Maybe this is before the Nick Arcade beta prototype?
No, sadly I think that is just Sonic 1. Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 were both on these buses along with a few other games.
I always called him Pico kid
Thanks god
Great video!
9:05,Lol!! You asked your dad on the Pico kid's name?!! XD
That sounds majorly costly but awesome. I wish more companies could do that!
YES I JUST SAW THIS IN MY RECOMENDED!!!
I also post my stuff to Twitter so make sure you follow me there too since UA-cam doesn't always notify people.
I'm quite amused at the blocking of the anti smoking message with Meet Knuckles
Damn I should have watched this when I was eating dinner-
I can't believe that there was a Sonic 2006 bus
6:47 ALEASE get away
Enjoyed this one a lot, like hearing about Sega's mysterious campaigns. Now go do the dishes.
Me: But Dad we have a dishwasher?
Dad: Dishwasher!? YOU ARE DISHWASTER NOW!
Knuckles would’ve won had Robotnik not “roboticized” cigarettes.
if the sega bus tour happens again I know I wont ever go on it since where I am video games aren't a big thing
Time for the inevitable terrible question:
What if a Sega Bus and a Hudson Caravan both had bombs strapped to them that would explode if they went under 50 mph and they were forced to race each other over the Paris Dakar Rally Special route?
BTW, I think the Sega Pico kid's name is "Smart Alex", if we go by the name of the only Sega Pico game with his likeness in it.
And the bombs only became active once they went over 4mph.
The double decker bus racing made me loose my mind
I just am imagining that bus going at Sonic’s supersonic speed and just gin much faster than the others buses
But I lost my mind when you said it tho
I would of gone on this but I live in the US :(
i don't hear stuff from this events in london i live in italy for things but i love sonic games because they are very great.
This is making me jealous
I'll just call the "SEGA Pico kid".......Pico. Yeah that works.
Wasnt born... BUT I GOT A 1995 BUS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE insert that bus racing

Will you rank the animated Sonic shows?
No
1) AOSTH
2) who cares
PS. Always wanted a SEGA PARK world bomber jacket as a kid. How about that for an episode? The Sonic merchandise u can get from Sega Parks back in the day?
I have the badges and a awful teddy still lol
You have Sega World pin badges? I'm jealous, I collect pin badges.
Wow, this is new.
Dont know if it's worth mentioning but I saw sonic involved in a promo vid of a laptop
I was in Sainsbury's in hedge end and saw that one of the computers has one of the repetitive vids playing, a sort of slide show of features, the loading sonic dash image was involved
The image that appears when you first open the app
Just strange and it got me thinking, does it indicate a sega-microsoft relationship
I know it wasn't a one off as I've seen it on the same laptop a few months ago in the same shop
I took some quick footage if it's of interest
Upload it so we can all see.
