I feel so bad for the Sonic statue (which was an animatronic statue) for not surviving with the music from the attraction
When i grow up im going to this alton theme park and if i see that sonic staue im going to get it im going to jump off and release my parachute
@@thegreatwisebear don't forget to record it so we can see our blue boy.
Christan the techog Got it! And the animatronic statue has better get some new movements to resemble Modern Sonic! And also hopefully Toyland Tours can return
And I’m also going to save the Sonic statue hidden in Japan’s mountains and bring it to North America and sculpt a new nose and patch up the cracks in the statue’s right arm and maybe even make a surfboard and design it and also make the torso of the statue more stronger so it can support the weight of the right arm
Alexander Hale supposedly didn’t survive
14:15 I know it's amazing but my god it sounded like Sonic was kind of drunk
Omg yeah 😂
Rainbow Master 64 lol he sounds drunk XD
Yeah, not only that but he even LOOKS drunk too!!!
LOL

Spinball... noodles?
Why couldn't they go with Chili dogs? That's Sonics thing.
Chili dogs, burgers, fries, AND thick milkshakes.
That’s what I was thinking XD
@@tyshco2969**thicc**, milkshakes
[not_in_ur_proximity_quincy] Stop.
One plate of diarrhea please.
Just a small bit of Sonic still at Alton Towers is semi-obscure, the Spinball Whizzer ride, one of the bumpers on the ground still has Dr Eggman/Robotnik on it (though could only see it from above whilst on the ride)
As in, printed on it, or a physical statue sitting in it?
@@ToaKoran Printed one of the bumpers I have only gone in 2018, I believe it is still there.
I sure hope someone gets some video, or a picture of it somehow while it's still there, Even if something is gone forever, it's always nice to have documentation that it was there at one point.
Yeah it’s still there. I’ve seen it this year, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere. It would be really hard to take a photo or video of tho, due to the violent jolting and spinning at the only time you can see it.
If anyone's still interested, it was there at scarefest 2019 still so it's remained throughout the season. fingers crossed it's still there when the 2020 season starts!!
>1998 Fully Operational
>Sonic’s head does a full 180
It was still fully operational in 2000
thats a problem the park is notorious for, Wicker Man's fire dosen't work most of the time, The Smiler's Indoor queues projections don't work and the Nemesis eyey will have problems soon
Really enjoyed the video, however I noticed a lot of digital artifacting on the shown moving footage. I didn't think much of it at first, assuming it was probably old and from lesser digital cameras of the time, but then your own recording of the Sonic hotel room was shown and appeared quite distorted. Given that this footage didn't look like that when you originally uploaded it years ago, it's likely something happened during the export of this entire video to cause it to become corrupted or compressed.
Might be worth re-exporting and re-uploading this video to have the picture quality you intended. You mentioned on Twitter wanting to do similar documentary type videos in the future - it would be a shame if new viewers saw this and were turned away from your channel due to the visual errors thinking the whole video itself was of lesser production quality, especially since that's not the case and the information itself was quite nicely presented.
Friesnchip Yeah, I noticed that, it’s very disorienting.
I think I know what has caused the distortion issues now. When the video is being converted from youtube into something I can use, it's not being encoded correctly when I try to max the quality of it, and it seems to be doing it mainly with low end cameras or mobile phone video, no all of it, but a lot.
Hopefully this should be resolved for future uploads.
@@BadnikMechanic just came across this video and the glitching was reeeeally hard to get through but your presentation overall had me push through. Awesome that you worked out the problem too
Yeah, the glitching issue has now been completely resolved, it will not be an issue for future videos.
@@BadnikMechanic I found your statue video last night then this one tonight and am blown away by the amount of marketing sonic has had, even in the UK! Great content man
And... Sonic has two mounths again...
I mean it was never to be seen in the front like the old Thanksgiving Parade balloon.
Did you mean to spell mouth and what do you mean again?
He would need two mouths to go tails two tails if you know what I'm saying!
@@mduke2k *WOW MY HEAD'S SPINNING*
I assume they did that to make sure Sonic looks right from either side (because his mouth is know to switch sides constantly), but the drawback is that Sonic's face looks freaky from the front.
Tbh I would totally have Sonic tell me safety instructions if I ever got into a dangerous situation.
"Put on these safety fast shoes. Make sure the strap is tight and the buckles are secure, and pull the sock so it forms a double-ring shape, and run as fast as you can to the nearest exit."
It's already a thing, look up "Sonic Says".
P.S. some people may have come from Slopes Game Room. Hello! This was my first proper attempt at doing a documentary check out some of my newer documentaries which have much better quality.
My favourite part of this video is the Chimp.
Cool

I have news for you! About a Sega partnership with a theme park. ( not Alton tower s).
Ask me bout it if ya wanna find out more

There really needs to be more Sonic themed roller coasters and rides especially in America.
Classic sonic is cute.
Wait...race cars but with snails hmmmmm......THAY PREDICTED TURBOOOOO!!!!!
Oh wow
Turbo was basically DreamWorks' answer to Sonic.
@@unwelldanny7108 even Skidmark, the blue snail and movie sonic are both voiced by the same Actor (Ben Schwartz)
Live in the UK and never been to Alton Towers, there’s something oddly unnerving about British theme parks, they’re look so dreary
The Nerd View Review if you think that, you’ve obviously never been to one. And I know you’ve said that already, if you actually DID go to Alton Towers, you’d love it.
mxblck I’ll admit to complete ignorance, family never had money travel to parks, feel I would quite enjoy it but still I stand by my thoughts in how they’re marketed, the international ones make them feel magical, ours don’t seem to share that escape from reality, they look so serious.
They really need to bring back the Sonic Spinball ride (just Spinball Whizzer isn’t going to cut it).
Dude Spinball Whizzer is it's original name plus when it had the Sonic branding it looked pretty much the same
@@masterknife8423 It did? I was completely unaware of that. It's just I really enjoy Sonic (a staple of my childhood and teenage years), but if the ride looks the same now as it did with it I guess I could give the ride a try (except I don't live in the UK so I'm screwed).
@@doublebaconchaseburger If you're from America you ain't missing much really. I live in the UK and I would give anything to have the likes of Disneyland or Cedar Point on my doorstep
The ride is no different. Sonic was just annoying.
Master Knife speaking of Disneyland. What you said about the ride being the same with or without the Sonic license reminded me of how Space Mountain became Hyperspace Mountain with the addition of the Star Wars license. Both are the same, just one has a Star Wars theme and one doesn’t.
Used to work at towers and whilst I can’t remember for sure, I think the sonic statute from toontown, or at least a replica, is inside magic HQ
I fucking adore how enthusiastic you are about this stuff man. It reminds me of why i'm a Sonic fan! This fandom needs more positivity!

This was a nice little history lesson for someone who lives in the United States !

I got stuck on this ride when I was a young teenager with my friends for over an HOUR!! Such fun memories though

Starting from when I was about 7, we used to take a photo of me and the sonic statue every year. Me seeing the statue as a 7 year old kickstarted my love of sonic. Obviously, when they took it down, it kind of hurt.
EDIT: I stayed at the sonic room once. I loved it. Door made a ring noise every time you opened it. (Just heard it in the video... memories!)
ANOTHER EDIT: (i forgot about this comment, but the final edit i made here was totally wrong. lol)
I also became a Sonic fan when I was 7, but it was from a game called "Sonic Lost in Mario World." (I live in the US.)
That statue you're talking about, you on about the Video Game Museum in Sheffield?
@@ThatSneakman oh, yeah, originally I was, but I was completely wrong. It's the same statue, but not _the_ same statue. The original one is still at alton towers outside a staff building. You can see it if you ride a specific Skyride route.
Okay, not related to this video, but I was watching this with Spotify on my living room TV, while I set up "Sonic Mania Plus" in my garage TV. I came back into the living room to find "Gangsta's Paradise" playing on Spotify. Very Sonic filled moment. This video playing on my phone, "Sonic Mania Plus" in the garage, and the song from that trailer playing in the living room.
There are still some hints to Sonic Spinball if you look closely enough:
1. The car numbers are apparently the same as Sonic Spinball, though I honestly have no clue if that's true.
2. On top of one of the theming ornaments is a picture of who I'm guessing is Doctor Eggman, but I honestly have no clue, I'm not really a Sonic fan.
Oh boy if only you know how much I HATE animatroniks and then I see my favourite blue hedgehog being a total creep around the ride... EW ! >M
quite late, but to anyone living in the uk, the sonic statue is usally found in 'GAME' shops like literally called game, wherever ive been, theres always one so i dont think it was just made for alton towers.
“The problem with the mural was that it was Sonic 4 themed”
Jesus Christ dude....
I’m here as a guy who watches theme park content constantly and this is the point where I realized this was a Sonic thing way more than a theme park thing.
How is a 74/100 panned? That’s well above average... it’s a beautiful mural I swear Sonic fans are bonkers.
This video is 27 min long. The line you quoted is at 22 min. I guess I didn't do too badly then...
Sonic 4 is pretty hated in the Sonic community. If you play it as a non-Sonic fan in a vacuum, it can seem okay, but to the Sonic community it’s just a shoddy mess.
KamsBizarreAdventure that’s fine but all the Sonic games are shoddy messes.
Sonic 4 is ironically again one of the highest rated Sonic titles of the last two decades.
@@TheRealAmericanMan Sonic 2? 3&K? CD?The adveture games? Heroes? Colors? The daytime stages in Unleased? Episode 2 in sonic 4? Generations? Mania?
Gavin Wilson Sonic 4 Episode 2 is worse than the first
3&K are where some would say the series stopped being good. Adventure had a common clipping glitch early on in it’s first level and Adventure 2 is kind of just an awful game all around. It has like four sonic levels and then everything else is worse than the first by a mile. Generations is an hour long and meh at best. And given it came out years after Mario Galaxy it’s lack of content is embarrassing for a 360 title.
Heroes is okay but it’s too button mash-y and the enemies are all so wildly uninteresting.
...
Colors and Unleashed are good though.
The Werehog gets too much hate considering how bad most of the other games are.
This would have been so much fun, which I could've enjoyed it. Great video!
Now that you mention it the bed in the Sonic room does look kinda tiny, least the room is still pretty cool
The only strange thing in the Sonic Section to the Toyland Tours is if you looked at his head since he looked like he broke his neck and obliteratedall the bones in his neck , and he looked strange with two faces ;v;
I remember climbing the statue
IT WAS YOU!😂🤣
SONIC IS COOL AND RIP ALTON TOWERS
When did Alton towers die?
You should have made a small grave at the end of the video that had the date Sonic was at Alton and when he left. It also should have had a quote that said “I checked out the consoles.”
Amazing video!! Wish I knew about the Sonic Spinball ride and could've gone to it at least once. Hopefully we'll get something similar for the series soon!
I actually went on Spinball whizzer last year and the one thing I noticed is that there were still pictures of Eggman on top of the giant bumpers...
Back then
I went on the ride
I met sonic
He signed my sonic book
Childhood complete
you still have the book????
The best part was how even before the Sonic 4 video leaks that wallpaper was correctly used to in guessing that the game would be a boostpad fest. 4’s core dna was mapped out successfully using 5 seconds of footage and wallpaper.
Alton towers is one of the few theme parks i went to, i can distinctly remember getting in the line for the sonic spinball ride but i didn't go on the ride because me and my sister realised we didn't have enough time and we had to go back home. I did however go on that charlie and the chocolate factory ride and it's insane to think that i was in a place where sonic the hedgehog had once resided... thanks for making this video, it brought back some unexpected memories.
someone i follow on instagram has that big sonic statue that you could take pictures with i don't know if it's the same one
My first theme park was actually Blackpool pleasure beach!
I swear Sally Acorn was on the badge for this ride
I’ve seen a statue the same as that at Arcade club in bury a couple weeks ago could it have been from the ride
Flamingo Land needs sonic desperately the other mascots there already are just for kids and it’s boring when I dressed up as sonic I had a lot of photos taken with kids and they also followed my dancing
I'm fairly sure before Toyland closed they updated the Sonic section of the ride. I use to go to Alton Towers several times a year, We'd go to Mc Donalds next to Toyland Tours and then go on that ride as a way to let our stomachs settle. I remember it being a lot more bright and funky in that room.
"hEy HeY WeLcOmE To My RoOm" is... Is Sonic trying to seduce me MTV Cribs style?
Lol
One memory which is burned into my head from visiting Alton Towers as a child is how terrified I was of the swan boat ... literally scared the life out of me
@Ready Player Com This was a great little documentary good job! I would love to see more of this style of video
I love Sonic 4. Nice game in my opinion, I Hope Sega decides to finish tha saga with Sonic 4 EP 3. Because I still consider it canon
my god, is it just me or the video quality as bad as Sonic 06 was?
Don't take this as an overeactive nitpick
I never been to Alton towers oh well the giant version of the master system and Genesis looks so cool
One question I’m still asking
Why did they make the 90s sonic statue with 2 mouths?
The reason for that is quite simple.
The head moves from left to right and guests past by it on the right hand side. Meaning no matter what side Sonic's head is looking at, he's always smiling at them.
The only issue is if his head is facing directly onto them when the two mouths becomes obvious.
I found a remain of sonic spinball on spinball whizzer when you are spinning down look on one of the poles and eggman is there!
You said ‘big sky’ instead of ‘blue sky’.
Just wanted to say. Great video otherwise!
I would've taken all the sonic merchandise in the room. EVERYTHING!
Christan the techog mii 2
So instead of refurbishing the Toyland Tours ride, they decided "Hey, you know that crazy tunnel scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that gives kids nightmares? Let's do that, except more boring"
That ride was based on the 2005 movie, which had a less scarier tunnel scene.
@@unwelldanny7108 I've seen the 2005 movie. This looks nothing like it. If anything, this seems closer to the original book than either of the film adaptations (which is basically just code for "we were extremely cheap")
I remember going to Alton Towers on a school trip and got called a nerd for going on the Sanic ride.
I didn't even know who Sonic was.
DoodleWill that guy is probably a sonic hater
I would have loved to ride Toyland Tours with my primary school
Your camera quality is terrible
I wanted to check out the consoles

When sonic spinball broke down there i was there I swear sonic said something about Dr Eggman
Sounds like that would happen
ToasterFace Yeah it did, used to work on the ride photos there and it said something along the lines of “Oh no, seems like Dr Eggman has been up to his old tricks again...” etc etc. Also another one for when it rained and they had to reduce car capacity.
Sonic statue in toyland tours
Thoughts:Says it lasted a few years
Reality:Was in the attraction on last day of operation
I always wanted to go on this when I was 8. Now that they got rid of the Sonic theming, I doubt I'll ever go on.
It's still a good ride just without the sonic theme sadly.
15:40 thank you Roger Craig Smith for 10 years of Sonic (ChEcK oUt ThE cOnSoLeS! WOOOOAH!!!)
Even though sonic is Sega . Watch sonic make it to Super Nintendo World at universal. Or at least make a Cameo. Because you know Nintendo and Sega have a great relationship
You can really tell you have a ton of passion for Sonic in this video! It was really informative and entertaining to watch. Great work!
cool vid
The story of Sonic at Alton Towers sounds depressing. The way every time Sega tried to have Sonic there, something would stop them like the ride malfunctioning or in the case of Sonic Spinball, a hotel room that had a lot of issues. However, I am happy that Sonic at least had some time to shine in Alton Towers from 1994-2017.
I remember seeing a short video of the animatronic and Jesus Christ it’s terrifying
I'm A Huge Sonic The Hegrehog Fan. Thanks Mate. X
Me: Where is the Sonic theming at your park?
Alton Towers: Gone, reduced to atoms.
15:48
I personally don’t like spin ball whizzer anymore. The theming just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the park and the ride is very rough. I have a feeling either it or Rita will be next to go.
I went there onces..at school... I wish I could go back
Am I the only person that has corruptions in the videos?

Sonic's voice sounded very different
nO they took the SoniC ridE down?!?!! That was my fave rideE, r u kidding mE i went on it like 5 times in 2013 or 2012
It's still there, just rethemed back to spinball whizzer, don't worry

Glad I went on the ride when I did! I loved it, as a Sonic fan this has made me sad. I really wanted to stay in the Sonic room but now everything is gone!!
Oh god if I’m thankful for my parents sanity that I’m American. I would’ve been at my peak sonic fandom around then at age 7. Highly active on sonic fan sites and forums, I would’ve found out about this quickly and screamed and nagged my parents for that hotel room and all that if I lived in Britain.

1:50 RIP Blue Sky Studios.
I remember going on the sonic spinball as a kid, and I remember really hating it, it spam, and it was fast. It was the first ride I went on at Alton Towers. A few years later (when it became the Spinball Whizzer again), I loved it. Not really sure what changed, but as a kid, I was really excited to go on a sonic-themed ride.
Y do the world hate sega
I don't know how I have only just seen this video but glad I finally manage to watch it. A great video with the full back story regarding Sonic and Alton Towers. Thanks! :)
I remember going on this. The ride was pretty fun and I even had a photo with the Sonic mascot wondering around. Although the statues nose had broken off and I remember there being 10" Jazwares in the gift shop. The ride even played Station Squares music on a Speaker around the ride.
I remember being 10 when that sonic commerical came out. That was a big surprise. Sadly i've only went to Drayton Manor and not Alton Towers.
I-i-i-i feel so jealous;-; WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! I WANT A SONIC ROOM! I WANT TO RIDE THE COASTER!!!!! *cries* I HATE THE STATES!!!!!!! ;-;
I remember seeing this ride, I was too scared to ride it as a kid though. I remember seeing the Sonic statue just outside the coaster, that thing towered me as a kid lol. Last time I went, the Sonic theme to the ride was just.. Gone, and I was just like 'wat, where is our boi Sonic at?'.
I've been on Alton towers recently, and I went on oblivion, and I went on the ride that spins 4 times and did 1 inside out loop and this ride that went like 50 mph in 1 second.
