My fav SLB movie definitely has to Devdas. The opulance, grandeur and the maximalist vibes just speaks to me. Not the outfit but Aishwarya's look in Silsila ye chaahat ka is *chef's kiss*.
Nooo dont stress about that - I WISH I could watch Devdas for the first time again - I would def appreciate it more now! Hope you enjoy it the film if you get a chance to check it out - the fashion/jewels/dances etc are amazing in it & thank you for watching ❣️❣️❣️🫶
He also uses fashion to show how his caractere are perceived by their society for example in ram leela : at the start of the movie ram and Leela are always dressed more modern and never like other people of their village to show how they are not in phase with their environnement and peoples. But after the intermission when they have duties and are now blending with their families. Leela almost become a mini dankor baa. In padmavaat it's the opposite Padmavati and Ratan singh are always matching each other outfits has well as with their peoples showing how their people love and respect them. Thoughout all the movie king and Queen are wearing matching outfits except from one scene when they argue about Allauddin seeing the Queen. Sanjay know very well what he do with every single color our outfits his caractere are wearing.
If no one's said this to you in a long time I'll do it- Please keep up w these videos not only are they informative and also super fun. The bollyphilic me loves these sm. The views and likes will take a slow way up since these format of videos aren't the norm in Indian yt but you'll soon find your audience that too the quality ones. Love.
I sometimes like watching fashion commentary videos - with Mina Le's standing out the most - however seeing that style of content blended with bollywood is so interesting!!
It's interesting how mostly women love SLB's works, but I feel like it is mostly for the aesthetic and how pretty the women look. It's fine if you like the aesthetic of a film, but it's okay to criticize the plot and characters as well. Some people are more attracted to the glamour of his films rather than the storyline. His historical films have been criticized for being inaccurate, with some religious groups protesting and even trashing his sets. Devdas, in particular, added some parts that weren't even there in the original book. I feel like the glitz and glamour of the film sort of hides a lot of the criticism people have about his films.
I love telling people how many of the elaborate lehenga in films (like the one for Goomar) weigh as much as a suit of armor. My husband actually does live steel combat and a frequent discussion is how much different fighter's kits weigh, and how the weight is really exhausting, so imagine trying to dance in it!
I liked how you highlighted SLB's emphasis on "emotional reality" despite the potential inaccuracies in some of his historical movies. I mean, you can't have it all at the end of the day.
I love you channel so much. Im russian, but I love indian culture so deeply. To have you narrate in English, a language I understand, about indian cinema and history, is truly a gift. Thank you so much for all the effort!❤️ P.S. your jewellery is so beautiful, and the way you style it with modern clothes! I wonder if one day I might order me some as well, although Im sceptical of how its would look on me, being white😂. But I cannot resist! Thanks to you, Im now hungry to read more of indian literature, including but not limited to biographies, myths, history, clothing history etc. Im so intrigued! I hope I will be able to find something on these topics)
I LOVE SLB, I fell for all his work, but I have to say: GUZAARISH has become a part of my soul. Heeramandi is simply terrific❤, but I would like more episodes and maybe a different endings, with more explanations about the future of our heroine. Tadjar is definitely my SLB's favourite male character.
Nice video and break down. I personally also loved the clothes in ‘Sawariyaa’ Just like a painting. Beautifully blended shades and flowy Anarkali made by Anuradha Wakil, Rajesh Pratap Singh. ❤️❤️
Beautiful well researched video . Thankyou for sharing it with the world. :) One lil correction if i may.. in India , Dixit surname is pronounced differently, not Dik-sit ( u can read as 'Dikhshit' :)

Deepika's outfit in Deewani Mastani and Aishwarya's purple outfit in HDDCS are definitely my fav 😍
Such lovely choices 🫶❣️❣️
Slb has to this day the most beautifully shot films in Bollywood
I'm ashamed to admit that I still haven't watched Dev das and after this video I'm definitely going to watch most of his films. Great video ❤

You won’t regret it. It’s an intemporal masterpiece
