There are many inconsistencies, some blatant fabrications, and malicious rumours. Khatija Akbar's book is certainly more accurate than Mohan Deep's, and it does contain opinions of her Madhubala's co-actors, which can be believed. For instance, it was not Mohan Sinha and not Devika Rani who gave Mumtaz the name 'Madhubala' when she starred in his 1947 film Mere Bhagwan. Madhubala's mother's name is reported to be Ayesha Begum when, in fact, her name was Meher Jahan Begum. Madhubala also never spoke Pashto since her mother was from Delhi and her father had migrated there, too. All of this information has been revealed by Madhubala's niece, Nafisa Ebrahim, who used to be active on Instagram a few years ago.
