I grew up with Pistol Pete, and he was my favorite as kid and the one who made me love tennis. Fantastic player.

This is the match that changed Petr forever, he lost to Edberg and he was so upset with himself and the rest is history.

Yep, he said he packed it in and gave up after blowing the third set. He vowed to never let that happen again.

You have to give credit to edberg before the final he played 3 long 5 sets matches against krajicek , lendl & chang and still hes capable of winning against the toughest champion of them all

Very good seletction of points, but we really didn't need all these replays. Loved Edberg, very elegant game, later to have just one more incarnation (Rafter).

Thx Kunnu for this insane quality footage update.
But we don't need all these replays (almost each point!).

@@KunnuITF I think it's fine honestly. Especially for the people who watch these to get better the replays help. Also it's more entertaining when it's certain points

This is one of the rare occasions where Sampras felt the pressure and could not handle it. After surviving throughout the second set, Sampras up 40-15 in the 4-5 game commits 2 unforced errors and a double fault to donate the set to Edberg. Up 5-4 and serving for the third set he double faults again and then lets Edberg ace him on a routine second serve set at 30-30 5-5. After that, both the momentum and energy were Edberg's.

Pete is the 2nd GOAT of modern tennis.
Lendl is the First GOAT and Federer is, so far, the last GOAT of the modern tennis.

Nah dude, even most Fedal fans admit these days that Djoko is above them all, simply the greatest…. Also, wasn’t Borg the first goat??

it is necessary to come back to that kind of racket to save tennis, it is not possibl e that serve and volley is dead

the loss of serve and volley strategy (for the most part) due to advances in strings and racquets is a travesty.
