I have had great luck with finding vintage items in my small town thrift store. The store manager and I have had many great conversations on my style. She now puts items away for me during the sorting process. I went in today and she had a wool grandpa cardigan, a pair of linen pants, a linen skirt with a wide, asymmetrical ruffle at the bottom, a tweed blazer and a lace blouse. I took it all!! Total $15!!!!
Completely agree. I've been looking for a specific type of chair for my living room, and today I finally found one exactly as I wanted it for about 7 usd. I've wanted a specific coat for years, and yesterday perusing my favorite online thrift store I found one for 54 usd.
I actually love that you shared that thrifting what you really want takes time. I think in the current climate, people are used to getting what they want immediately and sometimes finding something easily, also contributes to how easily people discard items. Have you thought of sewing items you want? I’m thinking about taking sewing classes to make my own stuff. As always, love your content!
So happy you liked it. I used to make clothes but when I moved my sister took her sewing machine back and at the time I had no room. I honestly need another because there are a couple things I’ve found that I could’ve sewed to fit me perfectly
you absolutely need to go on a thrifting tour in europe! specifically, belgium! belgians are not too fond of vintage things and are always trying to get rid of vintage items for a super low price. one thrift store in my area sells stuff by the kilo (like .75 per kilo) so i’ve gotten a bunch of vintage ornate frames, paintings, and mirrors for as low as €5. the most i’ve ever spent at this store is €13 and i came out with two vintage turntable stands, two vintage blankets, coffee table tray, a beautiful antique drawing in an ornate frame, 1960s european pyrex dish, some vinyls, and some other cute decor. europe is the way to go for second hand dark academia finds!!
For those of us that may get impatient shopping for these things, those lace up boots that you got can be found in a western store. They are a type of cowboy boots. My husband as a pair like those. He prefers the lace up style western boot. But they will be pricey because they are leather. Many of them Even have leather soles.
My ex husband and I bought a matching pair back in the 90’s. I still have mine and love them. Used to live in the Rockies, now back east trying to make them work and now I see how! Love these videos!
Hi Lanchen! If you come to Spain some day you can't miss the second hand street markets that most cities and towns organize once a week. You can find thousands of incredibly cheap clothes! at this point I only buy my clothes there. And thanks for showing your experience in the thrift shop, even though it may be hard to find some things I would really like to go to one in the future because we don't have them in Spain :)
I was considering moving to Spain actually but travel restrictions have held me back. I do plan on going one day soon though, I will totally check out the markets :) thanks for the tip
So, I just recently went to a thrift store and I found an unopened harry potter Hermione bag from the Noble collection. It was in the box and everything selling for 10 dollars when the new bag sells for 50!
I wish I had what i would at least consider nicer thrift stores like this around my area, all there is around me is Goodwill's and i always have a really really hard time finding things that i like there.
I know this video is super old, but I found it so I figure it is worth commenting. I want to ‘yes and…’ your point about shopping secondhand being a waiting game and more difficult than regular shopping, by saying that these things are extra true if you’re of a size or shape that precludes you a lot of the time. Patience is incredibly important. I just wanted to put it out there as Lanchen is pretty much the ideal body type for this kind of shopping/sustainable practice and she is describing a difficult wait.
Why… Why? would you stop going thrifting. Eight items in eight months is pure magic. I love what you have bought. This is considered and slow fashion shopping at its best. Furthermore you love these pieces and so you wont part with them in a very long time, if ever. That makes them valuable and irreplaceable to you. And so worthwhile for sustainability living. This is best practice for responsible shopping exampled right there. So go you. Give yourself a pat on the back. So impressive! Would that other people would put so much consideration and time into their clothes shopping and then so much less material goods would end up in landfill. I loved this Academia thrifting excursion, your view point and your take on things. Thank you so much for sharing.
@@justlanchen Totally. I grew up with it as a way of life skill. There were eight children in my family. Mum taught us to sew, very early in life. Thrift and change up the clothes, she was an original up cycler long before the term was even a thing. I love and appreciate that younger people like yourself care so much to learn and make it a life style skill too. You are all over it!😊
@@miriamgillham6701 omg that is so awesome, I love that for you. It’s so much fun making your own clothes, it makes thrifting a lot easier as well because you can always customize everything!!
I love thrifting for the "hit or miss" aspect because if you miss it's ok there's always next time but when you hit? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 found some absolute killer finds like my dress from the 80s in great condition or $355 loafers for $25
RIGHT! its always the best feeling when you find something you've been looking for at such a good price. My most loved pieces are the thrifted items that I took my time finding. You got such a steal on your items!
I’m glad you are thrifting items. I personally downvote ( or at very least refuse to upvote) any video that says “Got this from Amazon”. Thrifting gives a much longer life to any object. When I am done with anything lacy or light weight I put it into my creativity box to trim handkerchiefs, make doll clothes or add to a crazy quilt.
Thrift stores in my area are not that organized. It's such a jumbled mess I can barely stand going in there. I wish they would find a different type of organization. It's not that hard to do 🤨😒

NO WAY!!! That is sooo kind of her. You lucked out. I’m happy you got the pieces you wanted. A cardigan is on my list :)
oh my god that's so cool!
I'm glad you made a point of saying its ok to go and not find something. That building a wardrobe takes time.❤️👍
Totally does!!!

You will appreciate a curated closet more than a whole bunch of items you don't love. Love this!
You are 100% right!!! I’ve gotten rid of a lot of my clothes and already it is so much easier to get dressed and wear the things I love!
That part of not finding any items is so real. Love the honesty over so many tiktoks/instagram reels of people showing huge thrift hauls.
Oh thank you! It’s disappointing because I want to make more fashion videos but I can’t find items that are worth purchasing fast enough 🫠

Dark Academia? More like “Dang good videos for ya!” Thanks for taking us along on your adventures.
omg i love u💋💋
@@justlanchen Hey thanks, that’s very kind of you to say! On another note, if you ever want to hear a pun on a specific topic, just let me know.
really appreciate how you said the specific name of the clothes! I'm quite new to fashion but I had no idea what anything was called :)
thanks!
Great finds! Thanks for taking us along 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰🥰🤍

The items you did get over the course of those months are so beautiful 😍. And it keeps it out of land fills so that’s a plus as well!!
Thank you!!! I love them as well :)
I'm going backwards through the videos I have not seen - I love the fun music in this video, it adds this effortless and funny touch 🙂
hehe I love itttt
Lovely video and background music! You got me dancing in the kitchen making breakfast ❤️😄
I loveeee you for saying that🥹🥹🥹🥹🤎🤍

Hey girl🤗🤗🤗am early today and must admit that I love this 💯💯💕💕💃💃
So happy to hear that. Thanks for being here :))))
I literally laughed out loud when you said that thrifty 3 to 4 times a month is a lot, I thrift 3 to 4 times a week
😂😂😂😂😂
thank you for this! i enjoy all of your videos so much. 🖤✨📖🕯
Thanks so much lovely 🤍🤍🤍
This was helpful , it's a great way to reconsider returning to the dark academia style . Thanks❤
You should :)

Protip: AF DI is lit, it's like the central hub of DIs in UT, but the Spanish Fork DI seems to always have the most vintage stuff

Gosh I looovee your style and also your cat is really adorable!

What thrift store is that or what stores do u recommend omg the ones near me are so overpriced or they don’t have nice clothes 😭
Honestly I have had the best luck at goodwill for clothes but i think this also depends on the state and area
My gosh! I have a job so Amazon it is lol- love the DA vibes though
What days do you normally go thrift shopping?
Mondays, Fridays for the most part or Any day I can
Where do you get the waistcoat
I 100% agree
What song did you have in the background?
What store do you thrift at?
Thrift stores in my area are not that organized. It's such a jumbled mess I can barely stand going in there. I wish they would find a different type of organization. It's not that hard to do 🤨😒
Honestly, this specific thrift store, which is called Deseret industries (I think it’s only in Utah) is the best thrift store I’ve been to
So I feel you😅
I get so frustrated thrusting clothes. I find many things that I want, but never in my size or the item is not in very good shape. 😐
That can happen. Do you sew??
Not much knit wear in this. I love knitwear as i knit.
