Light academia is by far my favorite aesthetic. I look at dark academia as being relatively specific, but light academia seems to have a little more room for interpretation; it's broader. I love what you did with your rental space! Bravo! One of my favorite elements is the map 🤩
Beautiful job. I always like dark academia. Even thought I am a light spirit person. I am going to try this for my bedroom. Thanks for the inspiration.
Picnic at Hanging Rock is literally THE embodiment of Light Academia for me, especially the eerie and atmospheric movie. I always get inspired by it when it comes to LA. Don't care about the show tho. The book and the 70s movie are where it's at.👌🏻
My sitting room is decorated with a William Morris wallpaper and dark green paint but I also change things in summer to lighten it by using cream curtains instead of burgundy lighter throws and cushions and decor pieces etc inspired a lon time ago by my late mother in law who had green velvet curtains in winter and floral ones in summer ( 50 year ago ! ) 🥰
3:19 If I had to pick inspiration from a book for Light Academia, I would choose A room with a view by E.M. Forster (also the 1980s film version with Helena Bonham Carter would be a great visual inspiration!). When I think in Dark Academia vs. Light Academia, the first seems to draw inspiration on British manors and colleges (also New England colleges), while the second one seems more classical Mediterranean inspired, something along the lines of taking the Grand Tour to Italy to expand your education visiting the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence or strolling around Villa Borghese in Rome.
You did a beautiful job of the transformation from dark to light. The favorite elements are how you stacked the books to elevate the mirror! Great idea! Also your LA shirts are lovely and capture that look really well! Congratulations on your new space!
I loved that book stacking too!!! It made the desk look so much cooler but I definitely need to get the perfect mirror still. Thanks so much for the lovely feedback 🥰🥰🥰
Perfect timing for this video! I have been itching to change out my room to something lighter for spring. I love the idea of using a patterned sheet to cover a wall. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Sounds interesting! I love both and I'm trying to incorporate both, ie: using a medium shade of color for the walls, and changing out linens and accent pieces according to season darker for winter of course and then brighten things up for spring and summer. And of course decorating with books!
Totally agree with you, thrifting is the way to go! It feels extra special decorating your space with already loved items and giving them a second life. Affordable and good for the environment too 💗 your room turned out beautifully!
I didn't think I could love your room even more after the Dark Academia room makeover but you've done it. The map with the bust is absolutely gorgeous!
Omg thank you!!!! I’m so happy you like it!! I was honestly unsure what people would say but it warms my heart it speaks to you🥰🥰 p.s. that’s a Harry potter wizarding map 😂
I loved your dark academia makeover gave me so much ideas to help transform the rooms I'm doing in our house. You did a great job on this one as well. I might have to change our during the spring and summer time. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much for this beautiful video. I loved the hanging sheet so much. I wonder if you could briefly explain how you used the safety pin and the Alien tape to hang the sheet? I am guessing the pin goes through the sheet and then is taped to the wall but it wasn't close up enough to see exactly how. Thanks!
I really like that the somber lighting from candles being placed around the room brought. but at the same time watching them so close to fabrics made me nervous thinking they might catch on fire. also, its just a preference, but i would only keep books that you have read or have genuine interest interest in reading. it would speak about your personality more, even if they are not vintage, or have beautifull hard cover, or have pictures of places you haven't really been to. It just ended up being too "costumey" and less purposeful/ authentic. one tip I would give is actually use everything in your room, that includes reading those books, using those fountain pens to write letters regularly so they naturally fall where they be based on how convenient and practical they are to your every day use. or else it just ends up feeling like they are just knickknacks collecting dust, and honestly they will become boring and would loose interest to you cause they only serve as novelty items you bought off amazon. Then again, I can't blame you, you have this lay out to showcase and present this as a form to showcase to your youtube audience. Live the "light-dark-academia" life style, not just show it, you will naturally add purpose and authenticity to those things around you.
Some of your newer pieces like the statues can be aged out with antiqueing wax or watered down black paint. Also you can age your book pages with steeped tea. I love your space. SO PRETTY

Everything is quite lovely, and well put together. The paper doilies, on the other hand, r aesthetically deficient because they appear quite harsh at a simple glance. They clash with yer otherwise superb taste in yer overall decor. The placing of books facing forward rather than with the spines on display, or even music pages scattered around, implies profound studying. The fact that u chose 2 put the sheet on the wall in reverse really accentuates texture and interest as well as a conversational piece. U have done quite well. Congrats.

Just a tip. You can make fabric adhere to a wall temporarily by applying liquid starch to the fabric and pasting it in the wall. It is removable and doesn't damage walls
The wall is stunning and I wouldn't have thought that a construction like this with the tape holds so well 😊. And I love the white blouse with the lace 😍 somebody having a tip where to get one like this?
You've probably changed your room again by now as this vid is a year old but I wanted to tell you that 1, it looks amaze & 2, to knock that bright white look out of the paper doilies you can soak them in tea then let dry & it gives them an aged effect (like old book pages) ♥

I think you did an amazing job, especially for the money you spent. If you ever want to splurge, get an old English oil painting for your gallery wall. 👍
oh yes they were right! In my old apartment I had 4, 8ft mirrors that I lined in my living room to make it feel larger and bring it more light! I wish I still had them 😭
Ugh I wish. I moved awhile ago and at the time I only had a portrait lens. I shot in this room for sometime though and got a wide lens later, in my DA day writing video you see a lot more of it. ua-cam.com/video/lflFt-zb0Z0/v-deo.html
So apparently cornstarch mix with water will allow fabric to stick to walls without ruining the sheet or the wall. Create the mixture then soak your sheet in the solution. Spread the sheet out over the wall and using the same solution dip your wide paint brush in the cornstarch/water mixture and smooth out the sheet, as it dries it will stick to the wall. I believe this is an old technique military wives would use that moved from place to place and didn’t have time or permission to make changes to rentals.

Can you show the whole room instead of closeups of different areas?
Ugh I wish. I moved awhile ago and at the time I only had a portrait lens.
I shot in this room for sometime though and got a wide lens later, in my DA day writing video you see a lot more of it.

When you started cutting your book my brain went Michael Scott and started yelling “please God no God please no… NOOOOOOOO”
Next time you could iron the wall sheet for a neater appearance. You know our light academians like to be neat
I only had a steamer :(
Didn’t you just make a British country cottage style with candles? Loved your explanations here.
Hufflepuff heaven...📜✒️💛🐈🪄📖🪴
Now how will you know which book is which or you do not read books?
Someone who has this room has got to be a Harry Potter fan UWU

For dark or light, I don't get why the books are turned so you can't see the titles. Otherwise, I like the rooms.
Its just to keep all the colors in my space cohesive in my space
Your room looks gorgeous, but the sheet on the wall can produce mold. If I was you, I would look for removable wallpaper and do only one accent wall.
