Your labor helps millions of Church Streaming nowadays! Thanks much! from Philippines here!
+1 from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
God bless you Steven!
I moved recently and In the area where I live, I'm only getting 2.5-3 mbps up and tried streaming an offline game at 720p and had terrible results. I thought I would not be able to stream anymore =(
But after following your video and a couple other tutorials, I'm managing to stream at 720p 60fps with 224 audio bitrate. It sounds good and the image quality isn't that bad (not ideal, but wayyyy better than before optimizing). Now I can stream again!
Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you for the great info. No fluff, clear and good pace.
I really enjoyed this video. Clear and to the point. A good pace and with no waste info. Great job. Thank you. Very helpful.
Thank you for another great video. I love that your videos really focus on what a church has to do to get best sound and picture quality; the video gamers are great too, but they don't address all the same issues that churches face. Your tutorials have got us up and running for the quarantine-stream. We want to continue the live-streaming after the congregation is allowed back to church. I checked out your other videos on which cameras are appropriate, already we are making headway in making a proposal for the simplest 'sound booth' arrangements. Blessings!
Your video is so well done and so informative. I’ve been looking for info on the best settings, along with the reason behind them. Thank you, thank you!
Very helpful run-through of the settings!
thanks man, this actually worked for me after hours of trying to fix the lag between mic and audio.
Appreciate for sharing your ideas on how to optimize streaming videos. So kind of you.
Hey Steve, we’re from Boston, MA and your video really helped us get a better sound out of OBS! Thanks so much.
Best explanation I have heard for OBS.
Incredible value in the description!

mrblackgx I agree totally with u. Great clear video.
Great video! Clearly know your stuff and has helped me greatly. Thanks
excellent job thank you for explaining each of the settings and pros and cons for the setting specifically. So many other people just say use the setting and move on.
Thanks, I like to understand the "why" behind a decision!
Great video - Finally got my settings right to minimize the 'black bars' on the side of the screen using the new EOS Webcam Utility form my 5Ti - Thanks!
Thank you so much for making this vid! It has unveiled some of the mysteries regarding streaming in general and FB specifically...
Thank you. Your video helped me to better my live streaming.
Thank you.. very brief and easy to understand
So helpful! Thank you, Stephen.
Thanks, this has been so much helpful
Nice video! Just checking in to see what settings and suggestions you have. We tend to try to stream at higher framerates to keep the video smooth, but it definitely takes a bit beefier computer to handle it. Keep up the good work!
Very professional. Thank you!
The best explanation video that I can find thanks
VERY helpful video, liked and subscribed.

Thanks so much. This helped me so much.
Cette vidéo est très utile pour améliorer notre compréhension des configurations d'OBS Studio. Merci et que Dieu te bénisse!
Thank you! Very helpful!!!
Great video. Very helpful.
Hi
Have you any video on Lightboard studio to know How the image adding in live shooting, using equipment like HDMI and software OBS
Thank you so much for doing these videos. So helpful! I have one question. Our audio is coming from Logic Pro X which is then being sent to another computer running OBS. At 8:34 you start going over the audio settings. When you use the term “input source”, you’re referring to audio, correct? You’re saying that audio from a video source will most likely be 48khz. However, since my “input source” is from Logic, I can set this at either 44 or 48, correct? Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!
Great explanation
really helpful vid man tnx
Thank you so much, Stephen!!!
super awesome video!! Thank you
Very informative
Very nice ...Thanks
Great video. I am becoming a pro with this.
Saving this to favorites!! Now I just have to figure out how to turn the AF off, I turned the grid off on remote shooting and on the camera and it still showed up 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ I was so embarrassed lol
Thanks so much! Great!
Great video. I am trying to use an rmtp feed from GoPro 8 Black into OBS Studio (ver 25.0.8) using the monaserver (v2.565) on my windows 7 laptop. Everything is great except for the 3s lag coming from setBufferTime being set by OBS to 3000ms.
Is there a way to change this parameter to something lower than 3000ms like 30ms ? Thanks.
sheesh this is super clear. thanks so much
thank you very much
I spent an entire day yesterday trying to optimize my Settings and my streams still looked like trash. This is the best video I found so far! Thanks!
So did this video help it not look like trash?
Jeff Swartzentruber well, i’ve learned a lot in the last three weeks since watching this. You have to have the perfect storm of a good camera, the correct configuration in OBS, and a computer that is capable of processing everything. I finally isolated my problem down to my computer. My computer is a mid 2012 MacBook Pro and it’s way too slow to keep up with all of this. I’m not a big computer guy so that never even occurred to me. I’m running Catalina on my MacBook and my day to day stuff works just like it did the day I got the computer years ago. I didn’t realize that it was severely lacking in the video processing department. I’ve since been looking at a new beefed up PC. I think that’s one of the things that a lot of people fail to mention in these tutorials. You have to have the power under the hood to make all the stuff work properly. Hopefully this comment will help anyone else that’s having the same problem.
@@DustinBairdsolo ahhh great to know. Ive been wanting a sharper image for our livestream and I thought we just needed to look into trying to stream in 1080, but from this video, looks like we are stuck with 720 but we probably arent getting as sharp of a recording as we probably could be.
Dudee...
THANK YOU!
thank you for helping me sir
Great and helpful. God bless you!!
I don't experience any dropped frames anymore yet my stream momentarily breaks. What could be causing it plsss?
In OBS go to the View menu and click Stats. Is anything showing up in red or orange?
Stephen, what is the best platform to live stream on for a 1.5 hour music concert? You use OBS but on what platform. I would like to charge tickets and or possibly have a live tip jar too. it's just more about audio quality. Thank You.
Excellent video 👍
thaku 4 this tutor, mr
Thank you so much!
Thank you.
Great video!
Thanks for sharing 🙏👏👍
thank you so much !!!!
Thank you!
This is fantastic, thank you so much! WOuld the streaming for YT and Twitch be best left the same, do you know? I'm not steaming games or anything, basically the same set up for scenes etc. Again, thanks so much for this.
Not sure exactly when you mean by "best left the same?" I'd use the settings that the platform your streaming to recommends.
thank you this is good stuff
Thanks❤
You are just Awesome 👍🏻 Master
Sir thanks for the content 🙂
brilliant, clear, to the point and no show! I learnt so much! God bless you!
thank you mr Ballast
Thanks
What about encoding overloaded error? Do you have recommendations for what to do when you encounter that?
I followed this because my video was looking soft, and now I have massive sync problems. Do you consult and do remote control of the PC to fix it at all?
Hi Steve , Thank you so much for your videos, really helpful. I have a question, in 9:35 You made a comment about to keep an eye on the dropped frame indicator , cause it means problem, but what is the best way to fix this on the fly ?
Unfortunately there really isn't a way to fix this on the fly, you can't change encoder settings while it's encoding. That's why its important to test before you actually go live.
@@BallastMedia Thanks, I will pay attention to this.
GREAT VIDEO! I'm doing a Ballastflix right now, watching all your videos hahaha. Whats is the bit rate you recommend for streaming in 360p or 480p? The internet and PC are not great in my church, and It's lagging too much (I've watched your video about that too) so I want to spare bandwidth and process power. I believe I should reduce the video resolution at the cameras and swicher too in sort of sparing the PC?
What video interface do you have? Yes, you can run 480p at about 1500, or 360p you could run down to 700 if you have to and still have a manageable image. Experiment with it a little. If you can add a graphics card that supports nvenc to your pc it will make a world of difference.
Thanks a lot!!!!!
Thanks heaps!
Hello my friend and thanks for all your tutorials.
My question is if i can add 5 webcams for use with obs for facebook live at same time?
Theoretically yes. The issues you will run in to are 1. If they are bus powered your usb controller may not be able to power all of them. (You can add an additional USB pcie card if you are using a desktop). 2nd issue may be the data bandwidth all the cameras will need again may exceed the capability of the USB controller.
This video is super helpful, informative, and well-done. Thank you! Would you mind recommending what I would need for CPU and RAM? I'm streaming music to Facebook with one channel of audio and one channel of midi, plus effects. The DAW then goes through OBS to the stream.
As always, I recommend an i7 processor, 16GB of Ram, and using an NVIDIA graphics card that supports NVENC. Then you can encode video on your graphics card and that will free up your CPU for the DAW.
Thank you very much! Subscribed as of yesterday.
Hi Your tutorials have been extremely helpful. My new issue is with my streaming! I can stream video to
UA-cam but the audio is gone? Streaming with OBS on a Mac. Any idea.
The last time I had audio output issues was my fault and a quick fix. To the right of your audio meter, there's a gear icon. Press that. Click advanced audio properties. For my audio input, I accidentally set it to "monitor only", when it should have been set to "monitor and output".
Maybe see if you made the same mistake I did?
Question on graphics encoding for a Mac. OBS gives the options, x264, Apple VT H264 Software Encoder, and Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder. Any advantage to use the options to x264?
What do you suggest for a rural church stream that runs through a DSL stream?
Great Steven as always! I would like to see inyour future videos how to manage with internet in case of taking services to another venue (hotel, club, church) far away your headquarters, where the bandwidth can not be appropriate to a live streaming. Cheers!
All the same principles would still apply. Know what your upload bandwidth is, and set your bit rate accordingly. Unfortunately when streaming you are at the mercy of your bandwidth. Might want to lower the resolution of your stream so a lower bandwidth will still look ok. Also, if any way possible avoid wifi and use an Ethernet connection. This would still apply no matter where you are: ua-cam.com/video/-OyOBRhjYeo/v-deo.html
Thank you!
Your videos are awesome. I have learned so much. Quick question, my church bought the Canon Vixia R-82. They have a MacBook Pro A-1286 Quad Core i7 2.0Ghz, 16gig of ram. The only problem is that it has the older Thunderbolt (up to 10 Gbps), a Usb 2.0. Would the AJA U-TAP or Blackmagic device still work?
You'd probably be best off going with the BMD Mini Recorder through your thunderbolt port. (The u-tap crops video to lower resolution if you connect it through usb2.) The Mini Recorder works with the Vixia R600/800 on it's HDMI input, so I'll go out on a limb to say it should work with the R82.
Ballast Media Thanks for the quick response! Canon Vixia R82 is the 32gig version of the R800 from what I understand.
