I swear I was about to cry when Danny Brown lost to Die Lit. I love Die Lit, great record, but there is not a single song in there that beats Nosebleeds, and Nosebleeds is just average compared to the other songs on XXX.
Once again, absolutely love Die Lit, their experience perfectly described mine, but come on.
Went to middle & high school with Will “Toledo”, the lead man of Carseat Headrest. He was a nice & funny but very quiet band-kid, never saw him at any parties or anything. Was absolutely shocked when I learned that he was in a band that was blowing up. My wife and I saw them at a mid-size venue and it was a pretty great show except the stink-fiend who farted somewhere near us throughout the entire show

Gotta do genre specific versions of this list. I know rap is the main thing on here but so many of the tough matchups were brutal comparisons of pioneering albums for totally different styles.
yeah, to be honest, when HIVEMIND do videos/brackets like this, it doesn't make any sense. i think it's an unfair matchup but if they're going by enjoyability factor alone, i guess it's fine? i still think it's odd and they should probably keep everything in the same genre for the most part. an album like 'Grace' versing 'Circles' is just what

Graydon’s worst take for me has to be Plastic Beach. That album is basically perfect. Nearly every song would be the lead single on another artist’s record. It honestly sounded more like he’d never heard it. Bobby Womack, Little Dragon, and Mos Def’s features are all incredible.
Gorillaz are animated precisely to separate the music from the perception of the artist as well as to conceptualize the stories they try to tell on each record. You don’t have to pay attention to it though. The medium allows Damon an Jamie to feature anyone they want and explore music with way fewer expectations.

Yeah unfortunately plagued by the popularity of the music video of Feel Good Inc which after NFT's (or maybe if you just hate animated stuff in general) now seems uncool. TBH im just surprised to see Gorillaz up here; just like with MCR I know only their most famous song and have never had anyone try to get me to listen to their albums. I saw Gorillaz do a collab with Elton John and it was not impressive to me.

Nurture isn't about Porter's mom dying as she's still alive lol. The album is very personal and vulnerable though and is about Porter overcoming the desire to hate and destroy his own work. He does this by using the support of his family and partner to make something beautiful he's proud of and embrace his insecurities as part of him and his art.

i'm new here and i'm just now watching this video but revolver by the beatles is my favorite album of all time. i feel like it's a perfect album to show people who say they don't like the beatles to break their preconceived notions of who the beatles were as a band.

@winter1657 to be fair, as much as I love Eternal Sunshine, impersonally speaking, I can see their point. It has great moments, but the filmmaking for the majority is ultra basic early 2000's video. I've seen the movie multiple times, and the last time, I saw how basic and totally standard most of it really is. It's an extremely likeable movie and has highlights (absolutely love the closing shot) but I totally get what their saying.

@@nl3064 here I am replying to this 6 months late but I understand your point. My opinion is that it is a perfect culmination of that early 2000s style, with one of the best original scores of all time, cast and acted wonderfully, with arguably the best written screenplay ever, maybe second to Broadcast News. It’s also visually stunning and was all shot practically, the sets were intricate and genius and the entire movie gives me an indescribable feeling that never fades no matter how often I rewatch it.
I also watched it at the perfect time in my life and the overall message from the movie was one I was really needing to hear. Basically a perfect culmination of circumstance and taste has made it my pick for the best movie ever made.
Also Jon Brion who scored Eternal Sunshine also produced Swimming by Mac Miller along with many other incredible albums from a variety of artists

They still love most of those critically acclaimed albums though, and also most critically acclaimed albums are acclaimed because they're unique pieces of art that are important to music in some way, no one is saying you have to like them. There are def some music critics like that but most people in that community just like analyzing and discussing music which is a good thing imo

If Riley was true to this ideology since the start, LP! would've beaten Illmatic for example. In the end, it is just about what they wanted to go through and the justification comes afterwards.
