Noctina Tatakai You manually need to use the paddles to change gears, but you dont need to pull the clutch to shift.
When shifting a modern F1 car from 5th to 6th for example, you can keep completely pressing the throttle pedal and just pull the upshift paddle. F1 gearboxes change gears in 0.02 seconds.
Noctina Tatakai Quoted the wrong person, it is as you say, the clutch operates automatically, but the gears are (and mandatorely must, since in the past there was a button in the car which did perfect downshifts, but it is no longer allowed, got banned with stuff such as bidirectional telemetry) changed in a manual manner indeed.

It's sad now that every time I hear about burned clutches, I immediately think of UA-cam videos where spoiled rich kids burn the clutches of very expensive supercars.

Think of this two stage clutch system as using a single clutch but splitting it between two paddles. The first clutch is the motion of you letting go until the clutch bites (the bite point) and the second paddle is you slowly letting go of the clutch pedal entirely.

Haven't seen any comments that say this too so I should say, F1 has used a single clutch since 2015 and the bite point is now completely down to the drivers on the grid, engineers no longer set it up before the race. Of course, a few years ago, they'd work with their engineers to find their bite point during the formation lap. I think it was mid 2014 when they banned that, then in 2015 they switched to a single clutch, and in 2016 they had the drivers control the starts themselves with no engineer input.
I've secretly always wondered how clutch paddles work and what the benefit is, thanks for explaining Jimmy!

1:35 That's why I prefer the T300RS rim to the other ones. Having a D Pad and many buttons is so important. Sure, the GT3 rims look really cool, but they're not nearly as practical as one with D Pad, and many buttons. Hell, I'd like one that had analog sticks on it too for when I want to do photo mode or livery editors.

So according to the game both are controlling the same axis. And the knob is adjusting the max value the secondary paddle can send. Essentially giving a preset amount of slip. Very interesting. I don't watch much racing but I do have fun with a few different simulators (cheaper ones mostly with a G27 I bought new years ago).

Shifter karts also use a paddle for a clutch. Not the weird double clutch thing, but a paddle nonetheless.
Way back Thrustmaster already had a steering wheel with that feature; It was called the Thrustmaster Force Feedback Racing wheel. Maybe i still have it somewhere in the attic; I had two, usually some plastic would break eventually, like the gear stick, paddle shifters and/or clamping system. I can't believe Thrustmaster still uses the same clamping system after all these years. It's made to break..

Dude. I'm not gonna call you names because of your blue nails. They are peculiar for me but who am I to judge such stuff. However I couldn't help but notice your ambivalent stance on them. On one hand you are proudly announcing the fact that your nails are blue. One the other though, your body language indicates that you are self-conscious about them while presenting the wheel, and you are trying to sort of hide them by showing only as much as absolutely necessary. I've noticed that because I had bad habit of nail-biting and I was ashamed of it and I had similar body language tactic back than. Now if you ware self conscious because your nails needed to be repainted than my comment is not that important. If the reason was different than I'd say, your painted nails, even though they are peculiar to me, are nothing to be self conscious of. You have them. You like them that way. Fucking own them. 100%. It should boost your charisma even more and if anything at least your IRL content will become even better and more gripping. Wishing you many smiles per gallon, and may the force (feedback) be with you, always.

Nowadays F1 cars use only one lever, since Spa 2016 I think. Always wanted to have a fully working F1 rim with both paddles though, must feel badass.

Hey Jimmy, i saw your video on how to get into sime racing and saw some of the stuff you recommended for people who want to get into sim racing, I just got a g920 since I'm a bit of a broke guy, but I was woundering what are some tips you would give to a new guy wanting to get into it since I'm a complete noob, I'm wanting to stick to just indy cars, f1, and NASCAR, and possibly GT.
In F1 now they changed the rule. Two clutches are no longer allowed, does the wheel work with only one clutch as well?
