    It looks nice! You really put hard work into it.. the idea is great.. to save a lot of money… BUT, in my humble opinion, I wouldn’t buy it.. we want to make reef hobby easier, less maintenance, filter socks is already annoying changing socks every two days, but just throw in the washer and that’s it.. this one looks like changing also every two days, but more maintenance to change the sheet.. I’d rather stick to the sock. Maybe if you try an easier way, would work better! But nice job! Just need more work into it! 👍👍 keep working on it… you’ll find the way!!

    You um genius! Funny guy too! Think I will check these out! I dont know how these havnt been invented before! I do have one thought though, after watching the video though and leaving the first part of comment prematurely! It takes 5 seconds to change out my filter sock but looks a bit of a hassle to wrap these, but I dont like the idea of what is left in my washer although I do numerous rinses with prime so I am using a lot of water and prime so in the long run maybe a money saver!

    While filter cups are easier, filter socks have more surface area which is what we are going for. Love the idea and I’ve spent way more on filter equipment so while $40 for 1 seems high, your small now and getting it going. I’ll support and get 1. I hate washing filter socks, I plan on tossing each pad after each use with your unit. I have a waterbox marine X 60.2, any issues with fit?

    If you’re still making these, I would redo the video where you just put the sock in at normal speed, then followed up with an explanation of how to do it, so it doesn’t seem so cumbersome. Watching how long it takes you to put the sock in turns me off to the product.

    Whoa $40 for 1 ? If that’s accurate. That’s pretty expensive considering it cost about $2 to $5 bucks TOPS for some Filament and couple hours depending on printer to make one. Now 2 of these for $29.95 is lot more reasonable. But hey that’s just IMO. Too each is own

    It’s a good option to a filter socks. However, if you really want to get peoples attention it needs to be no more than $10.00. I know it’s a lost in a business sense but you sell enough volume that your material cost comes down in price and make some money. Otherwise, more than $20 in a hobby that is expensive it’s hard to justify it. One more thing who do you want to market your product? To the masses or to a group of people that can afford $50 or more price range.

    • @Lehmann108

    I can wash my filter socks so many times before they need to be replaced that this makes no sense. Not to mention, the surface area and efficiency that I get from a commercial sock is exponentially higher than anything that will fit in this space (other than a material that will need to be replaced at LEAST daily), leaves me with a hard no. I wish you good luck, but both functionally and economically, this doesn't resonate with me.

    • @reefingainteasy3754
      @reefingainteasy3754  3 роки тому

      Better for me for these reasons:
      Cheaper: in long run (up front cost of plastic cages)
      Easier to clean
      Less maintenance - one way it's less for me is since the felt so cheap I just throw them away instead of storing and cleaning socks, but if you do wash and reuse, no turning inside out and since it lays flat its just way easier to get them fully clean, also the option of using batting material makes it so you don't need to change as often as regular filter socks (less time/work), granted you might not be cleaning the water as good, but I suppose having more filter type options is another way its better.
      Knowing your tank: when I used to change my socks I would pull out and put in bucket, but never look inside them. With this you naturally see what is being filtered in your tank, which has taught me a lot about my tank. If you get a pest that could have taken a while to figure out this could help you see them earlier, or if you have "good guys" you want in your tank such as clean up crew's like baby snails (from larger ones reporducing), or expensive aiptasia eating nudibranch's rather than not noticing, you will see them and can just put them back in your display tank.
      I will never go back to filter socks... Thanks for commenting :-)

    I like the benefits but presoaking and drying seems like a process.
    Would like to see you go through the process of changing them at a normal pace out your sump. Be nice if you could verify whether or not you have to presoak.

    • @reefingainteasy3754
      @reefingainteasy3754  3 роки тому

      You definitely do not need to presoak, its the same as filter socks. Some vendors will include a note recommending pre-soaking your socks in RODI water. It's just to ensure no unwanted residue from manufacturing and the distribution process enter the tank, but your tank will be fine if you don't.

      That awesome and very resourceful, my first prototype was similar to that, I just didn't like having to replace it daily, or if I put holes in the sides to try and extent the time till it clogged, I worried it wouldn't filter as good as a sock. But I know some people don't even use socks so they probably laugh at me wanting to filter every drop of water. Thanks for commenting!

    What's so hard about cleaning filter socks? Toss in the washer with a bit of bleach in hot, with the extra rinse cycle. Then run again with just water. Air dry and done. The washing machine does all the work.
    Looks like a filter sock is actually easier to swap than this as well.

    You need to find a Chinese manufacturer that will produce your product for less than a dollar. Your asking price of $100 isn't going to work for a piece of plastic. Not trying to rain on your parade. You get an A for effort, but this can be easily produced for a lot less. GL, regardless.

    • @reefingainteasy3754
      @reefingainteasy3754  3 роки тому +2

      I agree, and appreciate the feedback. I was just impatient and wanted post the video. I lowered the price and included filter sheets so that it comes out to $3 a filter. I still want to lower the price, just want to make sure there is enough demand for economies of scale to do so. An injection mold would be a pricey upfront cost because of overhangs and the fact that you need 2, but then it would be super cheap to produce. With 3D printing it needs a lot of support material (doubling the amount of plastic needed). Just depends on the demand, if there is a lot then I can justify the injection molding upfront cost, or maybe even do a kickstarter to offset it.
