I think for most people, this approach to painting armies is the best. Most people wont have the airbrush, but they could base with drybrush instead. If I ever did a chaos army for TOW it would be a lot like this but with red and bronze as compelmentary colors. Great job! Great video
Man, this is perfect timing, my battalion box is showing up tomorrow. :) Thanks so much; I've just recently found your channel and love the stuff you're putting out.
@@MiniatureRealms Yeah I'm not interested in the meta. I'm thinking of using it to try and entice some pals into playing some Old World. A nice fairly easy army to start with, to try and understand the core rules of the game. Not too many things to have to think about with a Khorne list. March, charge done! 🤣
Hi Wrath, I just got the battalion box with a Lord on Manticore, and if you consider i already have a beastman army, with Dragon Ogres, Hounds and Giant, plus using main Beastmen as allies, I will never need more than that box, first time i can really see a massive saving buying this box!
Interesting idea and well executed. I really like the relaxed attitude to both the painting and lack of meta list.... great to see when there always seems to be so much pressure to do the opposite. Thanks for sharing.
Great job, Stu. I really like the Knights and Chariots. PS. It probably wouldn't surprise you, but I still have the original metal box of Chaos Dwarves. hehe.
Stuart, another fantastic old world video. Your content is always top quality and I look forward to how professional and engaging each video is. I’ve just joined the patron, I’m always excited for the content you produce and would like to support its continued success.
Bloody brilliant job, looks the part. Only thing to maybe add in the future would be 1 more accent colour like a bronze on some armour trim maybe? You know better than me!! I love the cavalry!
Thank you 😊 I think if it wasn’t a speed paint I’d have used another colour. But I also wanted a no frills basic look, so probably would have used a non metallic colour in some areas of the shields rather than add anything that look too decorative.
Thanks mate. Yes would be great for Beastmen too, did you choose an airbrush in the end? I listened to the pod you mentioned it on but wasn’t on UA-cam to comment. The airbrushes I’ve reviewed this year are so good for beginners and price, not sure if they’re on their Aus Amazon store though.
@@MiniatureRealms I grabbed the Iwata Neo CN but should have got the CS I think, I'll upgrade soon if I use it enough :) I'll check out your reviews, I must have missed that video!
Great looking army, Ive a soft spot for the 90s chaos warriors figures (big and spikey with small heads) and have about half an OW army done so far. Determined to get my new dwarfs done first tho as they will me far longer than you to paint!
Great looking army. I would like to mix and match between older classic minis and these newer guys (same army but likely not the same units). Those Darkoath minis certainly come across as being cooler than the older marauders but a different paint job could go a long way to making the classic marauders look better and more modern I’ll have to keep an eye out for the grease wash, looks pretty handy and I’ve seen you use it in quite a few projects.
Thanks mate. The older miniatures are fine, the marauders probably showing their age the most, but there’s a nice choice between old and new for players now.
Thank you, and yes they might be a little more tricky 😅. Definitely room for a lot of airbrush work with a white scheme for them, but nowhere near as easy to cut corners that won’t be noticed.
Another great looking job, been tempted many times by the look of many of the Chaos figures as a painting project but no interest in the faction. Back when our club used to run Warhammer tournaments it always appeared to me that those players that were a bit more serious about winning were drawn to Chaos armies. I will look out for the Oil wash as keen to give it a go, does it have a strong smell?
Thank you 🙂 I can relate to your feelings on Chaos, love the look but haven’t been drawn in before. The whole ‘raiding norsca’ feel of the old world has definitely helped this time, and while this will be a spare army for me, it’s certainly drawn me in more for the first time (I’m usually drawn to the ‘good guys’ more). Rules wise I think they’ve just always been a little stronger as a basic list, I actually think the whole design of Warhammer over the years has leaned heavily towards the ‘evil powers’ being strong. Narratively this makes a lot of sense, but I think it very often spills over to the rules, and can think of many editions when Demons, WoC, VC, Dark Elves have been strong, and not just with one build either, but even a power reduced list like my army here (it’s still tough). I think Empire, Dwarfs especially, but obviously other armies as well, more often find themselves at the other end of the power level (apart from skewed builds). It’s an interesting topic, but might hold some truth behind your perception. Artists thinner/white spirit etc smells, but way less than the stuff you find in the DIY stores.
Great looking models Stuart! Fantastic army! :) Two questions: 1. I know you vary clothing and hair colour. What about skin colours? Do you vary the recipe you use according to the geography (except the Undead of course), say fairer for Age of Sigmar, darker for Mediterranean, a bit darker, yellow/brown Middle East, even darker for Caribbean, and a bit orange/yellow based for Far East? For instance Tomb Kings. Any humanoid characters would have Egyptian skin. 2. Air brushing. You use it a lot.. is the area you use it in ventilated well, or does ventilation needed depend on the PSI as you use fairly low PSI? What have you done to your right thumb? (OK that's a third question *lol*)
Thank you 🙂 1). I do vary skin colour, but not as much. There’s two recipes in this army, I very briefly mention this a couple of times, but there’s not darker skin here, mostly because they’re coming from the from the Frozen North, Norsca and the other side of the Chaos Sea in the Chaos Wastes. 2). I use a very good quality mask and I’m away in my office/studio, I have windows open when the weather allows. Like you also alluded to, low psi and control helps reduce the vapour in the air a great deal as well. 3). My thumb lost a fight with 10A Swann-Morton blade while building some Empire 😅
@@MiniatureRealms Thanks Stuart :) Re the thumb; a similar thing happened to another YTer I follow. He dropped his knife.. automatically put his hand out to catch it but the bleeping thing fell blade first and stabbed him in the hand.. *owchie*
Impressive. The skin looks ace, the thing that is really lacking though is the bases, they look a bit like they've been left and got a bit dusty, sorry I've I went a bit harsh there, you probs wanted to these very quick too.
Nice to speed paint but I looked at the price for chaos warriors at gw, chosen cost about 100kr per model. People should not feel bad for 3d print proxy models. Still great video😊
Thank you. When I purchased them it was 2x start collecting boxes and the Warcry warbands, so whole army was under £250 at reseller prices, which is a cheap army by GW standards. It’s cheaper now the old world army has been released, but GW has never been cheap. 100kr (assuming Swedish Krona?) is nearly £8 a model, and they definitely were cheaper here, so you have my genuine sympathies there.
I used to be renowned in my group for rapidly painting an army...I recently started painting again after a long (over a decade) and my eyes are gone...detail work is beyond me nowadays
Sorry to hear that Derek, I'm sure your old models look impressive. Hope you still enjoy the hobby. It's not the end result that matters, but the relaxing state of mind you get into when getting an army ready for battle

Looking at the colors here, I keep thinking of Frazetta's Death Dealer as an army. Great look for a chaos army. Love it.
Thank you 😊
This is exactly what I love to see in army painting, it's great!

Enjoy painting your models
they look fantastic, can't even tell they are speedpainted. Glad to see Old World getting some love. Keep on truckin, brother.
Thank you very much 😊
Amazing Stu, youve basically used the same techniques i used for my Warmaster 10mm Chaos Army but did it very well for 28MM! Love it!
Thank you 😊
Amazing looking army Stuart. "Simple" is often better than something more elaborate!
Thank you mate 😊
Ooooo you tempt me! I was just looking at the Battalion box, and thinking if I should get it or not.
It’s a very good box to get started, probably not the most ‘meta’ if you care for such things, but a lot of points in the box.
@@MiniatureRealms Yeah I'm not interested in the meta. I'm thinking of using it to try and entice some pals into playing some Old World. Magnificient video, and the result is astonishing. Pure grimdark and chaos!

What a fantastic video and a well done army. Amazing! :-)

These look great. I'm making an attempt at speeding up on some Seraphon using contrast and speed paints.
Thank you. I imagine contrast is fantastic on Lizards, might have to do some myself one day.
