I liked the method of combining the four and would like to see other armies done this way. It saves both you and us time and gets the point across very well. Great job!
Great video Stu; really nice to see all 4 schemes. Love the sea green on the Westerland shield. And poor Felix at the end, not getting his drink because you’d painted the famous four so nicely that Gotrek wouldn’t stay!
Thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial. Really cool to see four colour schemes in one video. I’m still undecided as to which area of the empire I want to paint mine so seeing more options like this is very helpful
I really enjoy these tutorials, and I agree that all the extra pieces on State Troops can really slow things down. Those skulls, hourglasses, etc, should have been on the sprue. Plus it's nice to see the story bits at the end again.
Thank you 🙂 You can certainly use rattle cans for zenithal, but the lack of control can cause issues and often result in too much paint covering detail. Tamyia make small cans that have less pressure which are better, but definitely not a cheap option.
Nice to see different takes on the state troops. Right now I’m working through a bunch of the 6th edition troops for Westerland and Nuln. FYI if you get a hold of the 6th edition state troops sprue it’s pretty easy to use the extra heads and arms on the newer state troops for some added troop variety.
what lovely minis and what you've done with them...awesome. Really the peak era of GW design, I would love to see you doing Ostermark with their lovely yellow/burgundy schemem 🥰
Nice to see more people realising how good the Empire was before GW stole it from us. It's a shame we have to wait for another release wave for Greatswords to turn up. State troops excellent as they are, don't quite match up to the peak Empire aesthetic the same way a good looking Greatsword unit does. Hope to see you paint them!
Trying to figure out how to paint the big round shields that came with the older Empire spearmen. It’s a Middenland army. Tempted to just go all metallic, steel colored shield with the lion head in a darker bronze, gold highlights... rather than actual colors like blue and black. Not even sure I’d bother with the shields, in game. For a 5+ save, it’s almost not worth the points.
A 5+ is ok, but for what state troops provide in the game right now in general it feels expensive. Metal would look good, but again also halved white/blue painted wood effect would look striking as well.
Great video, Stuart! Just started on my Stirland force; there are some helpful tips here even though I'm sticking with traditional paints rather than contrast.
Great video. When I was a Kid I only had the money for 40k and not another system but always wanted to play Warhammer Fantasy. As I got back into the hobby 2016-2017 I was heartbroken to hear that it was dumped. So now Im all in and appreciate your vid greatly. I want to play Averland and wanted to ask of this is possible in the old World or if there is any Yellow Black paint schemes?
They’re still on the map, it’s just the four ‘political areas’ covered in the video are the focus it seems (along with some City States). Go ahead and collect Averland if that’s your thing, it will look fantastic! The yellow recipe in this video will work perfectly as well.
Great video, they turned out great. Not gonna lie I’m pretty upset about those transfers being the one included, I thought the bigger sheet they revealed earlier would be the one and now it looks like I can’t even buy it anymore
Thank you. I was always under the impression that those A4 sheets were sold separately as they were like the Horus Heresy style ones, I think what you get in the box is pretty good for a ‘free’ one. I can understand people preferring the main though, but I don’t think they’ve ever put that kind in boxes for free. Assuming they’re sold out right now? Hit the ‘email me’ button, it really works, it will help them know how many people want to buy them and inform future print runs.
@MiniatureRealms yeah makes sense in retrospect, I don't really follow anything 40k. Looks like I'll need to work on my freehand. They don't show up as sold out but after several attempts it's not letting me buy, I think they're probably gone for good because the bretonnia ones are gone from the shop. Either way great video ans thanks for the reply.
Yes the big one is alwase separete. But bretonian one returned i think and dawi too so i wold say pres the button and it will return at same point in future
Great tutorial! I've been meaning to ask which white you're using for the zenithal. I've just gotten an airbrush amd and the white ink I have tried so far comes out way too liquid to form those nice layers I keep seeing in your tutorials.
Thank you. It’s nearly always Vallejo Model Air White, though I’ve found Pro Acryl white and Two Thin coats great through the airbrush of thinned properly as well.
I’m not sure, I think the Dwarfs were very quick, could even be the day the first wave is released, but I really don’t know for certain. I want one too, need it for Throne of Skulls in February.
Great video. For Westerland I was thinking brighter for Nordland. Talassar Blue and Imperial Fist. I’ve had good results on space marines before. I reckon that should work as an alternate? I assume I could use the same Xpress Colours for the skin as you did for the dwarfs? It’s the same idea, right?
Thank you 🙂 Yes absolutely, exactly the same method and effect with the Xpress Colours as the Contrast. That idea would be great for Westerland as well.
I’ve got a similar video planned for them, but it might be a week or two, so if I have time I’ll make a ‘Short’ that gives a quick view of the contents and decal sheet.
I may get around to them at some point, but sadly can’t do them all in one go. My reasons for choosing these and not others are covered early in the video.
I can't wait to finally finish my Talabecland army, I've been working on it for only 22 years!
That’s a solid time investment, perfect time to get back working on it.
For Taal! 🌳

Thank you very much 🙂
These look fantastic. Thank you, excellent tutorial!
Thank you 🙂
You're the greatest, Stu! Thanks very much.
😊
Another great vid, love that yellow effect.
Thank you 😊
Guess I'm going back to painting my Averland Empire army after watching this
You definitely should!
Great video Stu; really nice to see all 4 schemes. Love the sea green on the Westerland shield.
And poor Felix at the end, not getting his drink because you’d painted the famous four so nicely that Gotrek wouldn’t stay!
Thank you mate 😊
Those are so vivid! They stand out beautifully.
All you need now is to paint another 80-100 infantry and you'll have a great display board 😜
Thank you 🙂
Back to Nuln (and far less infantry than that thankfully), but hopefully complete and with a display board in time for Throne of Skulls.
Another great one!
Thank you 🙂

Thank you, and glad you like the Easter eggs at the end 😊
Great video, really inspired me to improve my latest block of state troops
Thank you 🙂
Nice tutorial! Maybe i'll start an empire army in the future. Still thinking about tomb kings though.
Thank you 🙂
your channel is so well rounded for old world fans and this is yet another great addition that will help me and others... well done Stewart
Thank you very much 😊
Great tutorial as always Stuart. For non airbrush owners maybe just little bursts with a rattle can to emulate the same effect?
Thank you 🙂

I might have to go hunting for some, I had a unit back in 7th/8th Ed in my army back then, added some nice variety.
what lovely minis and what you've done with them...awesome. Really the peak era of GW design, I would love to see you doing Ostermark with their lovely yellow/burgundy schemem 🥰
I do love that scheme, definitely something to bear in mind for the future.
Great video Stuart. Have to say your Empire content is making me seriously consider a force of them!
Thank you, and you should definitely start an army 🙂

I definitely will in the future, love the miniatures.
Excellent video I've been looking forward to this and am hoping to paint up some Greatswords in the near future
Thank you Derek. I’ll definitely be picking up some Greatwords in the future.

Stirland will be so much fun, definitely one I want to do one day (I want to do them all 😂).
do empire nightly orders
If all goes to plan that will be later this month in a similar style of video 🙂
I prefer the daily orders myself
I will obey all Keira Knightley’s orders.

Should do Estalia style!
Could be a fun one for the future.
@@MiniatureRealms Definitely a fun one! Looking to make an Estalia themed army, being from Spain, seems natural!
I’d love to see that

Any thoughts when Made to Orders will be available? I need to know how much War Wagons are so I can budget lol

How about hohlAnd?
Maybe one day, but wanted to focus on the four main ones covered in the new book for now.
I liked it more when it was just The Empire and not Empire of Man.
I’m looking forward to seeing where the new lore goes, but I liked the old version as well.
Youre teasing me...:(
No it’s finally real 😂
@MiniatureRealms you're a food fella ;) lol
This is going to cost me a fortune in paints ;) lolany chance of Carroburg Greatswords at some point?
It’s not impossible, I’ll definitely want to paint some at some point, not in the next couple months I doubt though.
@@MiniatureRealms all g mate :) now i need to watch over an over to workout what paints i need lol
Takes to long for a rank and file figure to
to….? You’ve saved some time there already by not finishing that sentence 😂
No Averland? So sad
