Our 3mo old baby sleeps really well through the night. 9+ hrs since 3 weeks but will only nap 20-30 mins each time through out the day until 6:30, stay up till 8-8:30 and go down for the night. The night sleep is really nice but wish we could get some cluster in the daytime routine as it’s impossible to get anything done throughout the day. I’m exhausted.

hello! thanks for these videos! I've recently found you and subscribed right away :)
my 14 week old is struggling with 40-45 minute naps and during the night he wakes frequently to be nursed back to sleep...even though he had a full feed 1-2 hours before. he'll only nurse for 2 or so minutes and is back out. I'm exhausted! I've tried everything other than CIO and would like your advice. thanks!

      Hi Beklyn,
      Thanks for subscribing!
Are your baby's sleep struggles new? If so, it could be the 4 month sleep regression creeping up.
You can find out more info about it here: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/4-month-sleep-regression-tips-video
As for naps, we always work to fix naps last. Hopefully the tips in the video can help your little guy nap a bit longer.
I don't recommend nap training until at least 6 months AND once your baby is sleeping long stretches at night.
For night sleep, the best place to start teaching your baby to sleep longer stretches is BEDTIME.
My free Exhausted Mom's Survival Kit walks you through the first steps to setting your baby up to sleep well at night. You can find it here: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/exhausted-moms-survival-kit
Once he turns 5 months, he'll be more developmentally ready to learn to settle himself to sleep.
It's so hard when you're in limbo, I remember! But the Survival Kit should give you really helpful tips to help him sleep better.
Let me know if you have any questions as you go through the steps. Good luck!

Hi! I have an almost 3 months old baby girl. How can I get her to sleep on her own? I use pacifrier, white noise, swaddle and some mild rocking, but as soon as I put her down, she is waking up. No matter how long I wait to put her down, even in her deep sleep, she wakes up, even if I cuddle her right after. She is only naping in my arms or in a wrap. Sometimes even at night I have to hold her in my arms, and sleep in a sitting position with her. This makes me really exhausted. What can I do? Is it going to get better? Or I just teach her bad sleeping habits?

    • @Babysleepmadesimple
      @Babysleepmadesimple  3 роки тому

      Hi Beatrix.
      That sounds totally exhausting.
Have you tried waiting about 20 minutes after she falls asleep before trying to transfer her to the crib? Or then placing a hand on her chest and patting/shushing when she is in the crib.
I have attached our 3 month sleep guides and our exhausted mum's survival kit.

My 3 month old only eats about 2 to 2.5 oz at a time during the day and wants to eat every hour. I have tried to get her to start the day (7am) with a full meal but she refuses to eat the whole bottle. She eats full bottles at night. Right now she wakes 1 to 2 times to eat 4 oz. But by morning she starts eating less and more frequent. How can I fix this or do I just let it be?
Also how dark does the room need to be for day naps?

    • @Babysleepmadesimple
      @Babysleepmadesimple  3 роки тому +1

I would talk to your pediatrician about the daytime feeds. If your baby is within the appropriate weight range for their age and developing appropriately then I would not worry. Feed baby when she is hungry and it is ok if she eats a lot frequently or large amounts less frequently. As long as baby is eating an appropriate total amount within a 24 hour period :) But check in with your pediatrician just to be sure.
As for how dark the room should be: we recommend a complete blackout. You should not be able to see your hand in front of your face during the daytime. Even the slightest amount of light can wake a baby up and confuse their sleep cycles. There are a lot of great blackout curtains and black out film for windows that you can buy online. Also, check for other light sources. Electronics with have little blue lights that can be quite bright, the light coming in from under the door, etc. Having a blacked out room made a HUGE difference for my boys when we first started sleep training :)

Thank you for the tips! My baby is 13 weeks and about a week ago it seemed like everything switched. Can the 4 month regression hit early?
He will not crib nap anymore. We rock to sleep and transfer after the arm test and he was really good about staying asleep! Now he either wakes right back up or 20 minutes later he’s up. He was really good about doing 1-2 crib naps a day! Also at night he like “knows” it’s bedtime and scream cries. Even if we watch his sleepy cues and wake windows. He used to be really good about going down and staying asleep but now it’s ping-pong for 2-3 hours until he’s down in bassinet. And he’s up 4-5 times a night, where originally he was only up 2 times to eat. We’re exhausted! Anything extra we can try? He’s in a sleep sack with dark room and white noise for all naps and bedtime. Will he ever grow out of these new patterns? Do we just keep doing the same things?

My 3 month old baby has trouble naping in her crib due to reflexes when her foot or hands touch the matress. Or if she rolls over she cant get to sleep again. (She knows how to roll over from facing up to tummy.)
She only sleeps well during naps in a rocker or in someone's arms.

My baby only wants to nap on me during the day (either while breastfeeding or while I pull her up to burp her). When I move to put her next to me or in her crib she would instantly wake up.
I used to take her outside 2-3times and she would sleep in her stroller but now it’s so hot that instead of making her sleepy, she becomes agitated.
We have no issues at night as she falls asleep at 21:30-22:00 and usually sleeps whole night for 7-8h but during the day nothing works..she stays even 5-6h without sleep as I try again and again to move her and eventually give up and become the pillow for 1-2h so at least she gets some rest..

This is a silly question but do you consider this 3 month advice for 12 week olds or 16 week olds? Ie when they say 3 months do they mean enď of the 3rd month or the start of the 3rd month?

Mine has always slept well on me after I nurse her and the minute I transfer her to a crib or bassinet she wakes herself up. Hello! Thanks for the video, I’m going to try them out ASAP.
My baby is just turning 3 months tomorrow. From my understanding this is the time to start sleep training. She slept in our bedroom with us for a few weeks but moved her to her room and she sleeps in the mamaroo.
When I put her to bed, on good nights she sleeps 5-6 hours but majority of the time she’s up every hour and a half- she cries so I feed for 10 mins or so and put her back to bed. And she has a really hard time napping during the day, maybe 45-60 min max naps. I’m worried she’s not getting enough sleep. Sometimes I take her for a drive so she can nap during the day. Should I start getting her sleeping in the crib and using the mamaroo for naps?

My 3 month old only naps during the day when being held. She wakes up the second her body touches the crib mattress. Can you spoil a baby by holding her for her naps? Ill add that she sleeps really good in her crib at night and goes longer stretches at night. Everytime I spend 30 plus minutes trying to get her to sleep for her nap, only for her to wake up instantly. So after multiple failed attempts and an overtired screaming baby, I just hold her so she sleeps. Which means no washroom break, or anything to eat. Is there something that I can do to help this until shes old enough to sleep train?

    • @Babysleepmadesimple
      @Babysleepmadesimple  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Gail,
This sounds exactly the same as my daughter at the same age. She was great in her crib at night but needed to be held for naps. It is not an issue and you will not spoil her.
I used this program (www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program) when my LO was 5 months old to help her fall asleep independently and then when she was sleeping through the night I nap trained her too using the naps program.
You can always try putting her down in the crib for one nap of the day to try and get her used to it, but there is no pressure, and it is better that your LO is well-rested.
I also used to pop my LO in a carrier so I could get stuff done whilst she napped.

@@Babysleepmadesimple what about the 4 month sleep regression, the only way she will fall asleep is by rocking, swaying and bouncing. If I continue during the sleep regression will that mean she will require this method going forward to sleep? Or will sleep training at 5 months correct this?

When my daughter didn't want to sleep so I let her make her own mix at night and she loved that. It's nice bc you don't need batteries like w/ a portable sound machine. You can use it on your android, tablet, ipod even and then it's with u everywhere.

Hey my baby sleeps well most of the time and anywhere (I know don't shoot me lol) ... however... I'm always feeling caught off guard by the duration of her naps. She falls asleep for 20 mins to 50 mins if she's in a swaddle on a still surface but sometimes 2 hours plus if she's in her swing (supervised).. I'm fine with breaking sleep crutches later on when she's a little more able to self sooth etc.. but the difference between her times has me thinking that 20 min naps arnt good for her when she can infact sleep for those 2 hour stretches..
We have some travel plans coming up so I'm just wanting to establish some sort of guidelines for our family so we know we're not doing her a disservice by expecting longer stretches without the sleep aids.

      Hello Jessica!
Thanks so much for your post! At this age, babies often need some assistance with falling or staying asleep. My daughters were the same way and needed assistance with taking longer naps until they were closer to 6-7 months for nap training and then started taking really long naps in the crib. At this age, it is okay to be rocking your LO or holding them for a nap (always supervised of course). If you ever aim for a crib nap, they will most likely be short. In this case, I would just be prepared to go back in and help your LO fall back asleep/put back in the crib to help them connect those sleep cycles! :)

Hi mamas! Sorry to hear about your baby's sleep struggle! We usually recommend sleep training around 5-6 month olds,
because there are major developmental leaps that happen before that age that could disrupt the process. So if you can, I'd recommend hanging tight for a little while longer before you start sleep training. However there are still tips and routines that you can implement right now. Wait no more! Hi I love your video, I would like to know when is the best time to transition between bed sharing to a crib my baby is 3 months, he only takes 2 naps a day but usually both of them last about 2 and another for 3 hours he goes to bed at around 630pm or 7pm, he sleep until midnight for feeding and back to sleep and fully wake up at around 530am or 6 am. Only thing is that he hates being swaddle and. He sleep on my breast than I have to burp him and put him to bed and sometimes he wakes up, the last few nights I just took him off my breast and put him straight to bed without rocking but I want him to be able to fall sleep by himself and on his crib. Please advised me on what to do.

Hi! you could try to get your baby sleeping well in his own crib slowly and gently with these steps:
When making big changes to your LO’s sleep routine, I prefer taking time to spread out the steps. Moving gradually leads to less resistance and tears from your baby.
👉 So this is an example of how you can gently and gradually transition out of co-sleeping:
① Move a few feet away from baby in your bed. Spend 1-2 nights sleeping with some distance between the two of you. This gets your baby used to NOT sleeping right next to your body. An easy way to do this is to scoot away after baby has fallen asleep.
⓶ Put baby’s crib (or a Pack n Play) next to your bed and have your LO sleep there. (You’ll probably have to place him in there already asleep.) After each night waking, once he’s fallen asleep, gently transfer him to the crib. If he can spend any amount of time sleeping in the crib the first few nights, that’s a win!
③ Move baby’s crib to his bedroom once he’s spending the majority of the night sleeping there. Most babies and parents sleep better in their own rooms, because they don’t wake each other up. Use a video monitor so you can check on your LO.
As the 4th step, the video above will help you and our Free Exhausted Mom's Survival Kit:

Ok this is great but im dying here trying to find a video that shows me how to put my 10 month old to sleep period, hell sleep in the crib or the bed easily i just have a hard time putting him to sleep. He takes naps its just he takes forever for him to go to sleep at night, he will literally fall asleep at 12 and i hate it because i like sleeping early, especially because im pregnant so please help with that, if you know.

Hi! Oh no, sorry to hear that! It sounds exhausting! I would recommend starting with our age base sleep guide which will cover all the basics and help manage expectations at this stage. Implement the guide for 2 weeks straight and you should see improvements.
It is often useful to teach your LO how to fall asleep independently, this will lead for them STTN and thus improving sleep all around! If you'd like more detailed assistance on how to teach your LO this skill, our program 21 Days to Peace&Quiet walks you through the steps.
I will link the info below. I'd be happy to answer any additional questions about the program. Good luck mama! / Leena, BSMS Support Team

My 2 month old won’t take longer than 30 mins unless she is on me but she is still a restless napper during the day. Great sleeper at night. I do a pre-nap routine and it helps but naps are still really short. Will this correct over time since she can’t progress her sleep cycles just yet? I feel like my baby just refuses naps no matter her awake windows or sleep cues

Hi Mama! Yes, we always go by the adjusted age, so in your case, 2 month sleep guide. At this age, it is completely normal for sleep schedules to be all over the place. That's why i would recommend following awake times during the day and having the same wake up time every day, the rest can go however it goes :) The sleep guide will help you with that and other tips and how to gently guide your LO towards a more predictable schedule. Prepare though, that it will take some time so grab your coffee and prepare for these guides

      Hello Ekta,
We suggest blacking out your LO's room for naps so your LO can nap longer. As soon as the nap is completed, you would turn on all the lights and move into the "daylight" throughout the rest of the home so no day/night confusion occurs!

      Hi Aniket,
It sounds like your baby may have day/night confusion. The bottom section of this article has advice on helping your baby sleep at night and be awake during the day: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/how-to-help-2-month-old-baby-sleep-well
At 3 months, I recommend limiting total napping hours to 4 hours. And also wake your baby in the morning about 14 hours before her desired bedtime. So if you want her to have a 9 pm bedtime, wake her at 7 am everyday. This will help her settle to sleep earlier in the evening.
This video gives sleep advice for 3 month old babies: ua-cam.com/video/T52It93Uy4A/v-deo.html

i'm going to send my 4-month baby to a daycare center. He needs to sleep in a sleepsack (i use halo) for his daily nap because he could wake himself up for not able to control his hands. But our daycare center said they cannot restrict his arms during nap. Do you have any suggestions on how to help a baby nap without swaddling him (and probably in a noisy environment with light on)?

    • @Babysleepmadesimple
      @Babysleepmadesimple  5 років тому

Once your baby starts trying to roll it's unsafe to swaddle them for sleep. Your daycare is probably being proactive and has a policy against swaddling for babies his age.
He can still sleep in a sleep sack, but ones where he can move his arms around. Halo makes many of these. Also, the Zipadee Zip sleep suit is great for babies that loved being swaddled. It's safe to wear long-term but it has a slight restriction in the arms to help baby not wake himself.
I'd ask daycare to play white noise for naps (you can bring a small portable white noise machine) and darken the room (or let him sleep in a dark corner.)
It's normal for babies to not nap well when transitioning to daycare. Most moms say it takes about 3 weeks for baby to adapt. He'll probably need an early bedtime on daycare days if he's over-tired and also let him catch up on sleep when he's home with you on the weekends.
      Good luck!

I got a question. I have a 4.5 month baby boy. About a week ago. He started crying when it’s time for bed. I put his pajamas on. And it’s like he knows. So now he is crying when he goes to bed. So we hold and rock him until he passes out. Then try to set him in bed. 50% of the time he realizes he is going in the crib and cry’s.
Is this regression? He use to sleep like a champ until about a week ago. Any tips ? Same with naps.

Hi I'm struggling with getting my 12week old to sleep longer during the day at the moment he will get probably 15-30min before he starts crying to be picked up then he falls asleep while I'm rocking him back to bed. He's been sleeping on his tummy for 4-5weeks now and during the night he sleeps between 8-10hours without crying. I've tried putting him back in the same position he's in at night, during the day but he won't sleep long I don't know why. He suffers from startle reflex hence why he'd rather sleep on his tummy. I've tried swaddling him to bed but he does not like it to me it seems as though he feels trapped? During his day naps I try tapping him back to bed without picking him up then walk out the room but he starts to cry louder. He basically loves sleeping on me during the day. Now before I put him to bed he'd be fed , diaper changed , burped and warm/cold (depending on weather) but I still can't get him to sleep longer during the day. I have tried for weeks also different kinds of pacifiers to help him self soothe but he spits it out I'm having no luck. So if you have any tips I'd appreciate it x

      Hi there Anna.
First of all, for safety reasons, your baby shouldn't be sleeping on his tummy, unless he rolls himself in this positions. You should always put him on his back and if he rolls over onto his tummy, you can leave him there.
Also, if your baby is rolling you shouldn't swaddle him. There are swaddle transition blankets --> www.amazon.com/shop/babysleepmadesimple?listId=29EQP2CHJP463 you can use or regular sleep sacks --> www.amazon.com/shop/babysleepmadesimple?listId=21WGJCIJT7ZL7

      Hi Alaa,
So it's hard for her to sleep when there are other people around? This is normal as babies turn 3-4 months old. They can't sleep as deeply as they did when they were newborns. Sleep patterns are developing and changing at this age.
Have her nap in a separate room that's dark and play white noise. You can bring along a travel white noise machine like the Shusher ( amzn.to/2RhhwTO ) or you can download a free white noise app on your phone.
And also use the naps tips from this video. Those should help her nap better while on the go.

@@VanessaGonzalez-do2hf If he's rolling over day or night, then he can't be in a swaddle or swaddle sleep sack any more. Instead, put him in a Zipadee Zip sleep sack OR a Love to Dream (with the arms removed.) These sleep sacks can be used long term, so you don't have to worry about weaning him off it!
