In that interview he explained what was discussed the night before the race with the Merc Team, and that he was against the soft tire strategy. It is getting a bit embarrassing operationally this season... 1) This team couldn't calculate the weight of a car over a race distance correctly and lost a 1-2 (SPA) 2) Starting from the pitlane on the same tyre strategy as the leading cars in Baku (BAKU) 3) Couldn't put enough fuel in a car during qualifying where the session is constantly drying out (HUNGARY Q1) 4) Chose a totally incorrect cooling package for a race and had to run both cars in severe management (BAHRAIN) 5) Couldn't see the absolute obvious terrible idea of starting on Used Softs (Even when Leclerc did it last year and it was a disaster), where you are literally praying for an early SC unawise your strategy is screwed... Why was George pitted so early? Pitting him before Oscar who was behind him on the track made no sense. We all saw McLaren make that same mistake a few races ago, why on Earth would Mercedes repeat it? George had no chance to defend against Oscar because his tyres were 11 laps older. Absolutely horrific pit strategy choice by Mercedes this year, for both drivers.

The decision for soft does not hold up for Singapore given the environmental conditions. Whatever benefits of the softs at the front end of the stint will be lost at theback end with severe tyer degredation, inability to run deep and earlier pitting. Depends. If you can jump and then hold everybody up with a lot of tyre saving in clear air it can bring quite an advantage. Lewis just suffered from not being fortunate enough at the start to take the race lead.

They pitted him early to make sure he didn't kill George's chance at victory. Once George was in clean air, it was clear that Max and Lando were in a different race. They didn't know that for sure while George was behind Lewis.
Mercedes seems to forget. Most of their fans are Lewis fans, not Mercedes fans.
Next year Mercedes will have ZERO fans. George will be a psychotic mess. Andrea might smoke him but he is NOT a phenom. They have zero credibility and come 2026 they will be a disaster class or with a cheat engine. They need to be fully watched by f1 organization and FIA.

It is getting a bit embarrassing operationally this season...
1) This team couldn't calculate the weight of a car over a race distance correctly and lost a 1-2 (SPA)
2) Starting from the pitlane on the same tyre strategy as the leading cars in Baku (BAKU)
3) Couldn't put enough fuel in a car during qualifying where the session is constantly drying out (HUNGARY Q1)
4) Chose a totally incorrect cooling package for a race and had to run both cars in severe management (BAHRAIN)
5) Couldn't see the absolute obvious terrible idea of starting on Used Softs (Even when Leclerc did it last year and it was a disaster), where you are literally praying for an early SC unawise your strategy is screwed... (SINGAPORE)
A team of this status should not be doing such terrible howlers... no other 'top' team has done as many high profile errors in recent memory since Ferrari in 2022.

It makes no sense. James says Mercedes have been struggling with their soft tyres on tracks where the tyres can easily overheat. So if this is the case, why the heck pressure Lewis to start on the softs at Singapore where it's notorious for extreme heat and where soft tyres would easily degrade?? Well to play devils advocate, he was right about the soft tyres. You can go back to 2018 Singapore gp when Vettel managed 30 odd laps on soft. Well that was a disaster strategy ofc, but he has a point. The pace shouldn't have fallen the way it did for Lewis. Also you are right, Lewis shouldn't have started on soft to begin with
As much as I love the Mercedes team, the past three years have been in the wrong direction and you employ a 7* time world champion who says you’re headed in the direction, it might be wise to listen to him. Here’s to hoping the rest of the season will be great for the team and Lewis.

The run to the first turn is so short that softs didn’t make any sense even to jump people in the start….
Why was George pitted so early? Pitting him before Oscar who was behind him on the track made no sense. We all saw McLaren make that same mistake a few races ago, why on Earth would Mercedes repeat it? George had no chance to defend against Oscar because his tyres were 11 laps older. Absolutely horrific pit strategy choice by Mercedes this year, for both drivers.
I know Lewis is leaving but it seems like he’s being punished on the strategy side for leaving , after everything he’s done he should have been given the best strategy especially considering that he had a brand new medium tyre , I know that it was said it was a mistake but going on a used soft compared with a new medium even for a novice doesn’t seem like a good idea
Unless you're trying to take out Max in the first corner to help Lando, there's really nothing to gain to start on softs.

To address this properly, we knew that the akkodis debrief would be horsesh’t because we ALL heard Lewis response (even George) about how the Mercedes race engineers and Toto did not listen to Lewis about his medium tire choice. They maliciously put him on softs out of spite for Lewis fighting them hard to go on mediums.
So I knew they would bring James Allison on who is not part of race strategy to de-escalate Toto’s blatant sabotage of Lewis in Singapore.
James immediately admitted that the team F’d as he has the most credibility in the back office. I’m sure he is not partial and is frustrated about this sabotage as well. That’s why the communications team used him for the debrief.
But this still does not repair or pull a blindfold over the fact that this team had ZERO respect for Lewis since 2021. They have continuously undermined Lewis and paid no attention the the greatest formula 1 driver of all time. The team under Toto Wolff has purposely ruined Lewis race, denied his ambassador role and gave it to arch rival spooncrashstappen when he isn’t even a Mercedes driver!
He is the most winning driver. First Mercedes factory driver to win F1. Brought 8 championships to them. Worked harder than anyone EVER on that team but refuse to respect him or listen to him, so he can win for them!

I mean if you really did know track position and diferencial in tyre age are key to racing in Singapure, why on earth get Lewis on a strategy that would have still triggered an early pit (even if he had managed to get to p1 at the start), gotten him behind and on dirty air and on hard tyres that would have been older than everyone else's regardless if that start happened the way you wished it would. Like seriously, how is a strategy team not trying to plan more than 2 steps ahead.

Honestly Lewis is the only driver that has to compete against 19 drivers and 10 teams.
Lewis did all the work in Spa 2024 but had his ”team” and George trying to demolish his race.
We also remember George trying to do the same in Zandvoort 2022. No other ”team” acts like that.
What the softs an even worse strategy is the fact that Singapore is known to be one of the hottest races of the year. Hot temperatures are known to make soft tires degrade faster!!!

First you (the team) did not listen to Lewis's feedback on car development in 2022. Now you did not listen to him with regards to the starting tyres. I was gobsmacked when the tyre blankets came off and Lewis was the only car in the top 10 starting on the soft tyres. From then, I knew he would have a tough race strategy wise, on top of the Singapore heat & humidity. All that hard work in qualifying, putting the car in P3, it all went down the drain with this stupid decision. You people at Mercedes don't deserve to have Lewis Hamilton driving your car.

The decision for soft does not hold up for Singapore given the environmental conditions. Whatever benefits of the softs at the front end of the stint will be lost at theback end with severe tyer degredation, inability to run deep and earlier pitting. Why does the team overide the judgement of its most experienced seven time champion to persue such a desasterous strategy that even the less experienced Mercedes fans could see even before the start of the race. If the team thought that strategy was a winning on, why were the two cars not started on soft tyers then ?
