Important note regarding the circularity (got this controller today): By default the controller comes with the "raw mode" for the sticks enabled (even though it appears disabled when you first open the software) The raw mode turns the circularity + deadzone profile to what was shown in this video's circularity test. If you turn raw mode off, the circularity test shows an almost perfect 0.4% error for both sticks.
Seconding this; mine just arrived and when tested right out of the box, the circularity test showed 10% error rate across both sticks, brought down to 0.4% after enabling then disabling "Raw mode".
I made an effort to describe each step in as detailed of a manner as possible to ensure you don't get lost anywhere. If you find yourself lost while following these directions, there's a chance you installed the wrong software. Open the software, press "Profiles", press "Configure" on whichever one you'd like to use and switch to the "Sticks" tab at the top of the software. You'll see one slider for each joystick named "Left Stick", "Right Stick"; right underneath those you will see a red line with "balls" on each end. These can be dragged around to adjust the deadzone, and dragging the right-end "ball" all the way to the right will enable "Raw mode". And as previously stated, do that once, then drag the right-end "ball" back down to 100 and you should see the aforementioned 0.4% error rate.
@@JAYHAWKER-88 yeah, it's slightly smaller, but very close to stock. Triggers also have a bit shorter pull than an xbox one controller. Overall, I've been using it alot. Also paired it with the scuff universal thumbstick on the right. If, like me, you think the xbox one controller is a great size/shape. This will be comfortable.
Edit: I’ve sent the controller back to Gamesir, the right trigger was sticky when it’s pushed all the way in. They wanted it returned so I did. Bought a elite 2 and I’m not looking back at Gamesir for now
This is the third or fourth controller review I've seen from your channel and honestly it will probably be the last for awhile which isn't for any negative reason, you're actually very informative and occasionally funny with nonbiased opinions, but because you've helped me solidify my decision on the next controller I invest in. I've been using Xbox controllers for decades and felt like my whole world changed when I discovered a controller with rear buttons on PowerA but eventually had issues with the joystick developing horrible deadzone. Switched to the Ultimate wired 8BitDo and again ran into issues with the joystick where it would activate when not being touched so I fell back on a Voyee knock off 360 controller which has been reliable but doesn't provide the rear buttons that I've come to love.
My Turtle Beach Recon Controller's USBC port have become too unreliable with almost constant disconnects. I am aware of the replacement fix, but it's not something I can do. After watching several reviews by your good self I have just ordered the G7 & I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces, many thanks for these reviews, they have helped me tremendously, cheers dude, 😎👍👍

This is simply one of the best Xbox controllers at any price point. Awesome review - and i agree, if it had even PowerA style trigger stops it would be a 5/5 and possibly the best controller available. I just ordered the special edition (with Hall effect sticks) don't have it yet but i'm pumped for that. Apparently, it sacrifices the mechanical face buttons for standard membrane though. I suppose i'll use the SE for shooters and the OG G7 for everything else.

I've had this controller for about 3 weeks now and its an amazing controller..my only issue is that kontrol Freeks legs (must use ps4/ps5 versions) effectively stress the plastic of the face plate and cause it to squeak pretty loudly when pressing the l3 button forward .
The G7 with kontrol freeks and precision rings works better and more consistently than my Scuf Instinct Pro. Excellent controller. Better than many more expensive controllers. Bought it because of this review
Thanks for the review! Did you test the rumble, though? For example, some controllers are known to have loud rumble. I guess you would have mentioned if it wasn't fine. It seems the Microsoft controllers' bumpers remain superior for fingertip clickers. I wonder if I could get used to the feel of the back buttons as I don't want any. The Elite Series 2 was perfect for me but their QC is piss poor.

I really like my PDP Rematch. I use it over my razer, elite, and power A. It has zero stick drift, perfect stick tension and height, and great rear paddles. This looks interesting, but the sticks look slightly worse than the PDP one.
I got a pdp rematch to hold me off until Sony releases theirs and I actually really liked it Lmao if only they had a ps5 layout I’d actually use it, was only $25 or something. I used it for over a month and 0 stick drift. I did notice they were more stiff compared to ps5 thumbsticks but I really liked the back paddles
Nice budget controller. I got the gambit recently. And noticed the analogs arent alps. Alps are always green that iv seen, and these are like a tan/brown color. But I think they also have an unadjustable deadzone built into them as well. So im liking it but, it could be better. Also something i noticed with the gambit. On gamepad tester. When you move it to a position and hold the analog, it jumps all over instead of remaining steady. I just tested my elite 2, and it has no such abnormalities. Could just be gamepad tester. But its still concerning. Fun fact. On the website, it says the g7 has hall effect triggers. Which makes me sad...cause still no hall effect analogs for xbox...thats usable on xbox. Boooo.
Also recently got the Gambit and noticed that annoying deadzone right off the bat. Such a shame because without that one issue it would easily be the best overall controller under $200. Turned me off from trying out their new PlayStation and the Rematch, as I’m guessing they have the same built-in unadjustable deadzone.

So just ordered this from Amazon, the first G7 controller I had the mic input jack didn't work. None of my headsets would actually sit flush with the input it felt like something was blocking it. However Amazon swapped it for free obviously and the 2nd one seems to be perfect so far no issues. It's by far the best feeling controller at the $45 range HOWEVER the USB C port is not universal the shell has a very small cut out. Just be aware of that if you damage the cable! The cable that comes with it is very nice though. In this price range the G7 and PDP Rematch or new Afterglow are the best value.
I need a new controller fore a while but have not been able do pick one haha. My sticks are loose and screaming with stick drifts. I think this G7 will be the one. So many other controller looks fancy with light and stuff, that its just silly. I dont care about look but the performance. Good thing is technology have moved rapidly the last years, so controller at this price range are good.

I noticed this the other night and immediately bought some xbox concave thumbsticks and like you said it's a game changer. It made an almost perfect controller even better.
Great review I'll definitely look for these guys in the future. As a fellow 4 paddle/button man is there anything better than an elite 2? I love mine but the options also seem incredibly limited for a person who would actually want to use more than 1 paddle on a side at a time outside of that and that piece if crap powerA fusion I have collecting dust
PowerA feels cheap as fuck.. Elite 2.. I haven’t been lucky bought 4 all was somewhat faulty straight out of the box. I’m still trying to find a perfect controller.. Seems kinda impossible. I think ASUS will come out with one this year the raikiri pro. That looks pretty damn good imo.
Love this controller, wasn't sure I would after you explained the face buttons are clicky. I primarily play fighting games and this controller feels far quicker and more precise than my stock Xbox, Elite 2 and Wolverine Ultimate. Thanks for your in depth review!
@@ikonicmedia6294 it's PS5 kontrol freek but since you can pull the faceplate off you can also pull the thumbsticks off totally as well. I don't like the hybrid concave/convex thumbsticks so I bought some xbox concave thumbsticks and now the almost perfect controller is even better.
You sold me on this controller. I’ll rotate this with my hex controller. I had the hex ultra but ended up returning. I like the last Hex controller more.
A question for ya'll. I playe Hades which requires my right thumb just pressing abxy all the time. so I have this pain in the first joint of my thumb. do you think this controller could help maybe rest my right thumb more horizontally? any other controllers?
AK40Kevin does review of several different controllers that feature the 4 remappable buttons on the back that might work for you. Keep you thumbs on the sticks as much as possible and you should have less pain.

Oooooh I'm always interested in controllers that occupy this price range. Hopefully this matches up well against the 8BitDo Xbox Ultimate. Looks like they use the same, flush buttons on the back. That's a small negative for me.
Alps sticks > cheap noname sticks so not sure why that's a "weird flex" I mean Noble extra long lifespan pots would be best but no way are you going to see that in a $40 gamepad. Alps are what the 360 controllers used and there's a noticeable difference in lifespan between those and the cheaper stick units Microsoft uses in the Xbox One controller.
g7 for sure both the spectra and enhanced wired by powera are complete garbage trust me ive owned 5+ and out of the box stick drift or drift within a week tops is pretty much a guarantee
Hall sensors are extremely susceptible to external fields, the magnetic faceplate would've interfered with left stick based on magnet placement. Based on magnet placement around the left stick, there's no orientation of the stick where a sensor wouldn't be interfered with. Rearranging the magnets could also cause some amount of issue with how the faceplate adheres, you don't want a portion lifting off from the controller, and alternate placements have issues considering the magnets here are on standoffs; there's a reason why all the magnets are in locations that wouldn't interfere with other components, and why putting a central magnet would require an entire redesign of the controller. Hall sensors are also overrated, and are more of a marketing buzz than an actual solution. Sega did hall sensors two and a half decades ago, and they weren't ahead of their time. Sony figured out inductance sensor sticks over a decade ago, though they were fairly primitive by modern designs. Hall sensors are also susceptible to voltage drift, age, and sensor alignment accuracy; all issues, including the aforementioned external magnetic field susceptibility, inductive sensors can get around. GuliKit, the singular supplier of hall stick design, doesn't actually care about fixing the issue, they just have a source of cheap and abundant hall sensors, probably a typical situation of a warehouse looking to move stagnant stock to open room for stock that'll actually move, and modified the typical ALPS stickbox design to make it work, and now apparently the JoyCon FPC module as well. If GK actually cared about fixing limitations, there's better solutions than two discrete hall sensors, again the alignment accuracy issue which now compounds itself, can be fixed with a multi-axis hall sensor as a first step, or moving to inductive position sensors to get around _all_ of the downsides of hall sensors. But no company is actually looking into this, even though it's fairly simple, again Sony figured it out over a decade ago with a very primitive design, modern solutions are simpler; because no company actually _cares_ about fixing the issue, thus it's nothing but marketing buzz for a technology that is lackluster. Anyone within the academia of magnetometry will tell you the exact same things. There's also potential for other technology like optoelectronics, optical time of flight sensors can do distance measuring, certain materials of spectral translucency can be used as a variable thickness light blocker with a certain spectrum of LED and matched photodiode/phototransistor, similarly there are position sensitive detectors that're fancier photodiodes with two anodes for an analog range that can be used with a slit plate to have accurate light placement on the sensor, these PSDs also come in a two axis variant, there's also some other ideas that can be darts thrown at a wall; but again, _no company actually cares about fixing the issue,_ and this is why we won't see actual development of this stuff, even though it's relatively simple concepts that only need to be scaled and implemented to fit the package, which is more reason to believe that hall sticks are marketing buzz, because they're still so utterly inferior to a proper alternative. Are hall sticks a better alternative to the current situation, sure, but so would ALPS not overrating their potentiometers to where they fail within a month of use, because drift was never a widespread issue until ALPS started cutting corners. And the thing is, inductive position sensors aren't that expensive at all, optoelectronics are currently a bit more expensive but that's because they don't have an economic scale within this segment of the components industry, which circles back to _why_ I think GK is doing hall sticks, they found a very cheap source of abundant sensors, such as buying out stagnant warehouse stock as warehousing real estate is more valuable to whoever owns said warehouse, and they're currently at a scale where this source won't dry up before they need to buy into a proper supply chain. People really need to open their eyes and realize these things, and actually push for a better solution rather than buying into marketing buzz.

How well does the headphone Jack perform? I’ve recently gone through two separate Power A wired co trollers and both had issues with the headphone plug In (the headphones worked perfectly fine on my stock wireless Xbox series s controller) so im trying to figure out if this is a better option

Mine somehow has started being read by windows as a usb device called BR23UBOOT1.00 that does nothing. Im guessing it's bricked somehow. Was good while it lasted. Don't suppose anyone knows how to fix this?

Honestly, this controller is cheap enough for me to take apart and mod the triggers myself. Just need to fit a small rubber block in the triggers and enable the hair triggers in software.

Bought one of these after watching your review a couple months ago was working great loved the controller but for some reason it just won’t work on PC or Xbox it’s just being detected as a usb drive and not a controller and I’ve tried troubleshooting as much as possible but apparently no one else has this issue

It's $40 and beats the shit outta of any other controller for Xbox though, though it is a shame there's no hall effect thumbsticks.
Also recently got the Gambit and noticed that annoying deadzone right off the bat. Such a shame because without that one issue it would easily be the best overall controller under $200. Turned me off from trying out their new PlayStation and the Rematch, as I’m guessing they have the same built-in unadjustable deadzone.
My default Xbox controller just stopped working. Maybe I'll give this one a try. Looks like the Gamesir Nexus app can also be downloaded to your Xbox.

So just ordered this from Amazon, the first G7 controller I had the mic input jack didn't work. None of my headsets would actually sit flush with the input it felt like something was blocking it. However Amazon swapped it for free obviously and the 2nd one seems to be perfect so far no issues. It's by far the best feeling controller at the $45 range HOWEVER the USB C port is not universal the shell has a very small cut out. Just be aware of that if you damage the cable! The cable that comes with it is very nice though. In this price range the G7 and PDP Rematch or new Afterglow are the best value.
I need a new controller fore a while but have not been able do pick one haha. My sticks are loose and screaming with stick drifts. I think this G7 will be the one. So many other controller looks fancy with light and stuff, that its just silly. I dont care about look but the performance. Good thing is technology have moved rapidly the last years, so controller at this price range are good.

The great thing about swapping faceplates is you could stick Elite Series thumbsticks on this. Game-changer for me
I noticed this the other night and immediately bought some xbox concave thumbsticks and like you said it's a game changer. It made an almost perfect controller even better.
Great review I'll definitely look for these guys in the future. As a fellow 4 paddle/button man is there anything better than an elite 2? I love mine but the options also seem incredibly limited for a person who would actually want to use more than 1 paddle on a side at a time outside of that and that piece if crap powerA fusion I have collecting dust
PowerA feels cheap as fuck.. Elite 2.. I haven’t been lucky bought 4 all was somewhat faulty straight out of the box. I’m still trying to find a perfect controller.. Seems kinda impossible. I think ASUS will come out with one this year the raikiri pro. That looks pretty damn good imo.

@@ikonicmedia6294 it's PS5 kontrol freek but since you can pull the faceplate off you can also pull the thumbsticks off totally as well. I don't like the hybrid concave/convex thumbsticks so I bought some xbox concave thumbsticks and now the almost perfect controller is even better.

A question for ya'll. I playe Hades which requires my right thumb just pressing abxy all the time. so I have this pain in the first joint of my thumb. do you think this controller could help maybe rest my right thumb more horizontally? any other controllers?
AK40Kevin does review of several different controllers that feature the 4 remappable buttons on the back that might work for you. Keep you thumbs on the sticks as much as possible and you should have less pain.

Alps sticks > cheap noname sticks so not sure why that's a "weird flex" I mean Noble extra long lifespan pots would be best but no way are you going to see that in a $40 gamepad. Alps are what the 360 controllers used and there's a noticeable difference in lifespan between those and the cheaper stick units Microsoft uses in the Xbox One controller.

Yep, for the price it's amazing value but I'd still rather pay an extra $30 for the 8bitdo controller.
Hall sensors are extremely susceptible to external fields, the magnetic faceplate would've interfered with left stick based on magnet placement. Based on magnet placement around the left stick, there's no orientation of the stick where a sensor wouldn't be interfered with. Rearranging the magnets could also cause some amount of issue with how the faceplate adheres, you don't want a portion lifting off from the controller, and alternate placements have issues considering the magnets here are on standoffs; there's a reason why all the magnets are in locations that wouldn't interfere with other components, and why putting a central magnet would require an entire redesign of the controller.
Hall sensors are also overrated, and are more of a marketing buzz than an actual solution. Sega did hall sensors two and a half decades ago, and they weren't ahead of their time. Sony figured out inductance sensor sticks over a decade ago, though they were fairly primitive by modern designs. Hall sensors are also susceptible to voltage drift, age, and sensor alignment accuracy; all issues, including the aforementioned external magnetic field susceptibility, inductive sensors can get around. GuliKit, the singular supplier of hall stick design, doesn't actually care about fixing the issue, they just have a source of cheap and abundant hall sensors, probably a typical situation of a warehouse looking to move stagnant stock to open room for stock that'll actually move, and modified the typical ALPS stickbox design to make it work, and now apparently the JoyCon FPC module as well. If GK actually cared about fixing limitations, there's better solutions than two discrete hall sensors, again the alignment accuracy issue which now compounds itself, can be fixed with a multi-axis hall sensor as a first step, or moving to inductive position sensors to get around _all_ of the downsides of hall sensors. But no company is actually looking into this, even though it's fairly simple, again Sony figured it out over a decade ago with a very primitive design, modern solutions are simpler; because no company actually _cares_ about fixing the issue, thus it's nothing but marketing buzz for a technology that is lackluster. Anyone within the academia of magnetometry will tell you the exact same things. There's also potential for other technology like optoelectronics, optical time of flight sensors can do distance measuring, certain materials of spectral translucency can be used as a variable thickness light blocker with a certain spectrum of LED and matched photodiode/phototransistor, similarly there are position sensitive detectors that're fancier photodiodes with two anodes for an analog range that can be used with a slit plate to have accurate light placement on the sensor, these PSDs also come in a two axis variant, there's also some other ideas that can be darts thrown at a wall; but again, _no company actually cares about fixing the issue,_ and this is why we won't see actual development of this stuff, even though it's relatively simple concepts that only need to be scaled and implemented to fit the package, which is more reason to believe that hall sticks are marketing buzz, because they're still so utterly inferior to a proper alternative. Are hall sticks a better alternative to the current situation, sure, but so would ALPS not overrating their potentiometers to where they fail within a month of use, because drift was never a widespread issue until ALPS started cutting corners. And the thing is, inductive position sensors aren't that expensive at all, optoelectronics are currently a bit more expensive but that's because they don't have an economic scale within this segment of the components industry, which circles back to _why_ I think GK is doing hall sticks, they found a very cheap source of abundant sensors, such as buying out stagnant warehouse stock as warehousing real estate is more valuable to whoever owns said warehouse, and they're currently at a scale where this source won't dry up before they need to buy into a proper supply chain. People really need to open their eyes and realize these things, and actually push for a better solution rather than buying into marketing buzz.

How well does the headphone Jack perform? I’ve recently gone through two separate Power A wired co trollers and both had issues with the headphone plug In (the headphones worked perfectly fine on my stock wireless Xbox series s controller) so im trying to figure out if this is a better option

Mine somehow has started being read by windows as a usb device called BR23UBOOT1.00 that does nothing. Im guessing it's bricked somehow. Was good while it lasted. Don't suppose anyone knows how to fix this?

The newish PDP rematch controller is very similar to this. mechanical switches and friction rings might give this an edge though.
PDP rematch might have a different slight edge in slight overclock ability with a similar stock performance.

Honestly, this controller is cheap enough for me to take apart and mod the triggers myself. Just need to fit a small rubber block in the triggers and enable the hair triggers in software.
