I lived the first 50 years of my life for others and was miserable a lot… At that time I started living for me and finding Progress Daily was a big part of that. Now I’m with someone who loves the real me and I’m happy again learning to skate and surf, building a hot rod, traveling, started my own UA-cam channel and having fun. Thanks for your part in that!

Great value from this type of content. Been seeing you since at least 2017. Your a source of inspiration when It comes to being true and reinventing yourself, at least for me who used to skate and do parkour, and now i'm into Climbing. Movement, all the same. And been having ideas about movies and books analysis to put on UA-cam.

John, I started watching you and Sarah independently by total coincidence before the two of you met, then dated and so on. I just love that I was like... Wait why are these two small channel, unrelated UA-camrs meeting at the weird snow lodge place and then it felt like a weird dream I was having when yall then dated. It already felt like such a weird and unlikely coincidence that the two of you even crossed paths at all. Now I understand that you two have overlapping interests that make sense to me now, but then it felt really weird that a skateboarder UA-camr that I was following and a camera UA-camr I was following who made videos about video editing and stuff happened to be metering and then happened to date and then happened to get married or whatever. I haven't kept up with the channel much to be honest (and I don't keep super close tabs on internet relationships generally, because... weird). Anyway.
I am recalling those memories because I was abused by my mother and I wasn't allowed to even go outside into my driveway and use the skateboard that I bought because I thought your videos were so cool. I never ended up really learning how to skateboard because I found out it's kind of scary, but those videos host me feel like I was living some sort of real life outside of my bedroom window that I was stuck watching the world through. I was restrained from physical movement and therefore developed very muted physical gestures and I just generally struggle to move my body much in flexible ways because it's such a new thing to me. It's a really hard thing to explain but it might sound weird but it was very cathartic being able to watch someone skateboarding. I just really loved watching how the tricks work, I like to be able to hear the air and birds outside and I really like the sound of the wood skateboard deck grinding against metal. These things made life feel more real, and I needed that at that age, point, and time.
Now I've outgrown skateboards personally, now that's skateboarding is childish, just something I personally grew out of like with any interest. But I always make sure to stay subscribed to channels like this that I subscribed to a long time ago and have probably forgotten about. Because once in a while I get a video that pops up from someone I totally forgot about, and I'm like "oh my god John Hill still exists even when I'm not watching his videos?".
Anyway my point here is just that, it feels good that things have changed. I don't need the skateboarding anymore, but I do need help with regret. Because now it's time to confront my father about the abuse and a divorce. I want air out my family issues any further, but this is the scariest thing I have done ever. But it's the right thing. I promised myself not to flinch while going through this. I need to cut my mother out of my life, even if that means cutting the entire family off with her. It's so difficult to push through that without falling for the way I crave a relationship with my mother like I never had. But this is my truth, and I gotta say what must be said and not allow myself to regret it, despite the pain. My conscious is clear, and has been, I just have to trust it.
Thanks again for crossing paths with my life. You are a friend.

First off, great video, I think it will help a lot of people!!! but something that struck me with what you said. I don't necessarily agree that families should have unconditional love. I think love should be based on conditions. Lets say you have a family member that kills other people (extreme example, but I think you'll understand the point), I don't think they should be deserving of my love. I should be able to shut them out if they don't meet certain conditions. Although with family the level of conditions might be lower than with others. I know this is very philosophical, but it's something I think about.

The way to stop worrying is to stop worrying. I look at everyone as equal. If I live according to what others think, then I am living their life. Educate yourself, listen, and take in advice. But act according to your own heart. Wisdom is knowledge mixed with experience.

Anxiety and self-doubt go hand in hand for me. Overcoming my fears and be confident are gonna be the crusade of my whole life at 36. Even more so because of my traumatic childhood- I was abused both physically and emotionnally by my parents. Then I got severely bullied in high school, later by neighbors in my apartment building. After having drank for a decade, I'm sober for almost 3 years now. I'm currently back to University to complete my biochemestry degree. Life is hard when you're agoraphobic, socially anxious and depressed. During my deepest lows, I was unable to leave my apartment for months. People are still talking behind my back and gossiping about me. Life's hard and harsh when you suffer from acute chronic low self-esteem. Because I tend to believe what others say about myself. After all I went through, I'm still alive which wouldn't be the case for most people if they had to go through all that stuff.

  • @DarkoNomad
    @DarkoNomad 5 місяців тому

I'd say that skateboarding taught me about life and living.
    1. I knew it won't be easy but it will be fun (it's more about the journey than destination) .
    2. It taught me to stay true to myself regardless of how others perceive it.
    3. There are risks of injuries but much higher rewards in learning tricks.
    4. I learned to take calculated risks in life by learning them through tricks
    5. As in life, however you fall you need to stand up and keep pushing - it taught me about importance of consistency and perseverance.
    6. Years of falling and injuries only made me stronger and more resilient.
    7. It taught not to compete with others but only with myself
    8. It improved my balance and reflexes that saved my life and others many times.
    9. It taught me how to look at obstacles creatively (in life and business)
But unfortunately, now in my late 30s, when I feel very accomplished in my life personally and profesionally, I wish I had younger body and more time for skateboarding 😂
