    My favorite moment from playing this game as a MG gunner wasn't a "I mowed 10 people crossing a field" it was when we whwre trying to take out a pillbox. I set up my MG and was laying down suppressive fire, forcing the enemies in the pill box to duck down while my squad crawled up to them and tossed a nade in the window. Felt great knowing I helped out in such a big way. This pillbox was keeping us from pushing forward and we delt with it.

    Great guide as usual.
    Suppression is so underrated by most. People think it's
    an MG thing, but standard infantry doctrine is entirely applicable to this game. That is to say you must attempt to win your firefight regardless of your class.
    The amount of people who duck, and run for cover under contact, without firing back, is astonishing. Every time you come under contact you MUST return fire, even if unsure of their position.
    A dozen rounds from a squad will put someone's head down, or mess with their aim.
    If your position is known, use smoke and keep firing, even with that bolt action. If you don't, you will be suppressed and flanked.

    • @DeMurker
      @DeMurker Рік тому +2

      Usually true, but in my experience randomly firing somewhere is a bad idea in close combat, or when you're severely outnumbered. In those cases you are better off not giving the enemy as much information about your location, and trying to listen for their footsteps

  • @GucciBlanket

    Setting up in areas where offensive pushes are bound to happen is the best especially when your spraying through a berm and you hear a couple helmet tinks. I think it’s so cool when they’re running through trees on a push and you just sprayyyyy and in the process watch multiple fall.

    MG is really good for area denial. If you can get 2 MGs from two squads setup, you can create a fence of bullets that nobody can get through and re-route your enemy away from that base of fire, and keep shifting it to funnel them along. The dueling machine guns are also harder to track via tracers because they are rotating fire.
    Amazing for defence but also very amazing for pinning the enemy down and having assault squads sneak up from the flanks of your pinned enemies dealing with MG fire.

    • @tilda140
      @tilda140 Рік тому +5

      One of the main things is we need to hear that gun going off, if you have friendlies advancing on a position the best way to go about it is just suppress everything in between the name plates. If they're advancing and you aren't shooting, you should be. Find somewhere to put out a few rounds, even if it looks kind of sketchy you only need to pop up for a moment or 2 because you can quickly rotate somewhere else. Shoot, move. Shoot, move. You may get enough infantry support to be able to lock down an area and have your flanks protected, in that case I suggest firing medium bursts, but periodically stop for ~5-10 seconds or less to simulate a reload then continue firing again. fire irregularly so they cannot approximate when you are reloading it will further limit their ability to mitigate what happening.

      @John-mf6ky Рік тому

      @@tilda140 @JC exactly, a machine gun should be covering an assault or defending against a push. Position is everything.. Like you said though, you want to be unpredictable. If you can get on a flank from a little distance you can rack up a bunch of kills too.

    @sassapop9883 Рік тому +14

    As somebody mentioned in the comments on the original upload, being aware of the angle you’re deploying bipod at is also important because in things like windows you can look out it at a sharp angle and infantry dead on from the building can’t hit you, only suppress at best except for the few buildings where bullet pen actually works (mostly eastern maps)
    Also, you can duck down while reloading without disengaging the bipod so you can snap back up firing quicker

The enemy will flock towards the sound to see if they can get a flank on the clattering mg, so you're only going to last if you have cover on both sides, say if you're laying in a ditch. People don't fear dying enough for suppression to be too valuable. Long range slaughter seems to be more useful to me. Like a sniper, but more exciting.

    When I'm not playing Medic or Support I'm probably playing Machine Gunner because it is still a very supportive role in its own right. Yes you can mow down squads and get a lot of kills but there is no overstating just how important suppressive fire is for helping your team, especially if there is large areas to cross with little cover or holding a defensive position and taking the need off of other squad's firepower long enough for them to recover and heal, revive, reload, build or whatever else they need to do.

    I play MG in so many different ways. I agree with all your points but one. Laying constant hail of bullets works in specific scenarios. On Utah map I once hid in a way that I could see over 400m in 3 main directions from the point we were defending. I had an outpost and an ammo crate next to me. I just sprayed. No bursts, no breaks, no major aiming. Empty it all, use the crate, empty it again, redeploy, rinse, repeat. They couldn't see me, they tried everything, they kept dying. I stayed in that position for over 20 minutes doing the same thing and they never got even close to the point.

    Also fire very short burts. 2-4 round or 3-6 rounds, with 3 to 4 second pauses. It breaks up your fire so you aren't showing the enemy a LASER pointer to your position. Only hold down the trigger and let her rip if you need to spit some insane hate at people. (like a major enemy push)

    The best part about HLL over the likes of Squad/PS is that the ballistics are far more realistic(squad/ps has massive gravity modifier on bullets), firing guns actually feels like firing bullets - not shooting paintball.

    • @alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289
      @alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 Рік тому

      I think the reason Post Scriptum and Squad opted for that was for realism-sake as well. Contrary to what people think the average engagement distance during World War 2 was much shorter than most people realize. In Hell Let Loose people are using MP40's and PPSH's at upwards of 200 meters which is kind of a joke compared to history. Sure the EFFECTIVE range of those weapons was around 200 meters but the average engagement distances of those weapons during the war was around 90 meters. Couple that with the fact that the guns have next to no recoil and now you have a World War 2 game where not a single person is using a bolt-action rifle. Make it make sense lmao.

    • @EcchiRevenge
      @EcchiRevenge Рік тому

      @@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289
      No, it's not.
      There's nothing realistic about unrealistic ballistics, because it doesn't make bullets less accurate/damaging; it just makes shooting feel like paintball.
      Squad developers are just untalented individuals who are confused about what actually discourages long range engagement(damage/precision loss) and reduces the gap between scopes and ironsights. Ironically the system set in place have done the exact opposite. (guns are too precise and rifles generally only drop down to 35 damage at minimum at extreme ranges, the extra bullet drop makes scopes almost a necessity because holdover at mid range being off by a little == miss)
      You're confusing recoil with ballistics; these are separate issues.
      History never told you people can't make 9mm or 7.62x25 lethal past 100m. Keep in mind you just tried to cite "average" which changes a lot depending on terrain...etc.
      If people had abundant access to semiautos, they would have used it in WW2(there was supposed to be more SVT40 according to Soviet TOE, they only switched to mosin production after it was obvious that svt40 production couldn't keep up with demand).

    • @alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289
      @alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 Рік тому

      @EcchiRevenge Yes, but they didn't have abundant access to semi-autos. Kind of pointless for you to point out; like everything else you've said. I never said Squad or PS was realistic, but rather that they were trying to achieve something realistic. And not once did I say they did a good job or that they even went about it the right way. But I'm struggling to understand why someone like you who has strong fundamental knowledge of World War 2 would so staunchly defend a game like Hell Let Loose, as arcadey as it is. The ballistics as you've pointed out is quite literally it's only redeeming quality (If you can even call it that). And besides, the ballistics in Hell Let Loose aren't great to begin with. Small arms ballistics might be decent but the armored combat and the ballistics tied with it are complete and utter garbage.

    • @EcchiRevenge
      @EcchiRevenge Рік тому

      @@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 Pointless for you to try to downplay the fact that people IRL would have used it if they had it. Therefore Hell Let Loose is still well within the realm of possibility in its availability of semiautos(because there likely are units armed with plenty of semiautos, or even stg44, at one side or another, at some point in the war).
      They're not trying to achieve anything realistic, if you actually understand those games, you would know.
      Again, you're confusing recoil with ballistics. You're strawmaning hard there; I'm not defending anything. Hell Let Loose is the better game, that's just a fact. But this is about the ballistics.
      Armor combat in squad/PS is far worse in ballistics too; even BMP-1 reticles don't work like they do IRL. They also completely lack balance(HLL was also shit but at least it's arcady game).

    _*Sometimes* you might not visually see them and might be supressing? Bro ALL the time lol 24/7 suppression baby, especially through hedges you would be surprised what kind of penetration you can get especially if they have garrisons hiding behind a tree line. some of those hedges have small perforations that allow the bullets to make it through, i always hear random little hits when im suppressing and that's exactly how you know you're doing it right. MG is excellent for broad area denial, and like you said if you have the line of sight you should be as far back as possible. the main thing is you have to have teammates who are willing to be cognizant of your flanks and actually watch your back periodically. if you have infantry support you can get away with much more.
    have 900+ hours and MG is my main class, just hit level 10 MG so lots of trial and error, winning and losing, ups and downs. on a typical match i'll put out anywhere between 5,000 to 12,000 rounds

    In a high-level squad, the MG is *easily* the most important class when in infantry combat. The best way is to hang 3-400m behind the action as you say, and have squad mates direct your fire with pings. The distance makes it easier to keep a large area suppressed. IMO, the only reason to not fire continuously is if you're trying to lure the enemy in. You should have over 5K shots fired each match if you're good

But you can still use it as a support weapon. I’m just saying that it isn’t that effective in this game and you can just use the entire squad as suppressive fire when you’re lunging up.

Wait there for the 1 smart enemy officer who is driving their supply truck behind your line on the quiet flank, and shoot him to death.
    This is the only useful moment to be MG. every other time just play officer. MG is a blueberry class that you have to work very hard to try justify picking over officer.

    The MG class is just to underwhelming. The amount of bugs, the hits it can take to kill someone.
    A lot of times even when you are at a distance you will get killed first try by someone with a rifle 10 miles away.
    And I never had a squad leader ping enemies for me.
    German tactics revolved around the MG42. In HLL the MG42 gunner is just an annoying fly I squash with my overpowered, insanely accurate M1 garand.
