Ok as i foreigner who has been once to Anfield i bought a half and half scarf so i have something to remind me that i've been to that particular match. I didn't wore it at the game because i got a regular one as well , but i think half and half scarf are fine if you want to bring it home to memorize that event.
Love videos like this. It's why Ball Street is the best football based channel on UA-cam. Content like this is why it's much better than channels like 90Min & Football Daily.
Thank you ball street for making this. A very unique video on a niche subject in the sport. Remember listening to flav and Ricky talking about half and half scarves on the fighting cock a few months ago and agreed with all of their views along with all the views of the others in this video. Thanks again for this mini documentary and I hope to see more like this on the channel soon!
Ball Street cheers. Have you considered doing one on clappers? It seems more and more clubs are doing these. Leicester obviously but I remember going to craven cottage last year in the FA Cup against spurs and seeing them having them there
Ball Street man ball street is such a gem of a channel. Should have more subs man. Apart from entertainment you provied great insight into footballl. Respect from India man.
Although I agree that some half and half scarfs should not be thing specially between rivals I do own a half and half scarf that means alot to me in 2009 Liverpool bought a very young side to my small town football club of Aberystwyth (Wales) to play a friendly me being a Liverpool fan jump at the chance to buy a scarf with the team I support on it and the town from where I was born 👍
You see this all the time in big games/rivalries in England. I am a Rangers season ticket holder and I don’t think I’d make it out alive if I went to a game, home or away, against Celtic with a half and half scarf.
I flew 20,000kms to watch a game. You can bet your ass I bought a half n half scarf as a memento. I hid one half when I wore it though because I knew the hate for them lol
People used to get badges whenever they were abroad supporting their team, and put them on headwear back in the day. I suppose this is just the natural successor of that.
European half and half scarves are great momentos of some of the best nights, especially if you like the other team. The snobbery of football puts people off, it's ridiculous.
I get the memento thing with the half and half scarves especially in Europe or a memorable games! But id buy it after the game not before and then wear it! Only to collect!
If any fan can't see the problem in a half-n-half scarf being made for domestic games then I despair. And the bastards who sell and make scarves with bitter rivals on them make me sick.
I don't get why people get upset by half and half scarves. If you don't want one, don't buy one. For the record, I have three, all for European games which is the only time I will buy them.
The only one I bought was when Manchester United played Manchester City in America. It was the first Manchester derby since the Arena bombing… and it was a “friendly”
For me it depends. Most of the time it's ridiculous unless it's hanging them for memorabilia (specific important matches). As a Sevilla fan, we also have a very strong connection to the Sevilla/Schalke half and half, as it commemorates Antonio Puerta's last goal before his sudden death. Same as the Sevilla/Middleborough scarf marking our first ever European Trophy. And we have the Deportivo La Coruña half scarf that symbolizes the Ultras of Sevilla and Depo vs Fascism and Racism. So yes, most are ridiculous, but some have a deeper meaning.
To me one of the worst things in football is not the half and half scarf but the self righteous arrogant fans that are so against them. Usually these are fans who get to go to the match frequently because A) the can afford to and B) are lucky enough to have access to a ticket. Yeah I'm sure for those the novelty of going to a big game is nothing, they've done it so many times. But many fans don't have that good fortune and you know what if a half and half scarf is a way they can remember that special moment then what the hell gives others the right to judge them on something they often don't know. How's about you support the team and let your fellow supporters do it in there way. I'd rather sit next to a half and half scarf fan then some jaded knob who talks shit about the players. Oh or people that judge people on a scale. Pathetic really.
Buy one and put it in your car or bag, whatever, then fine; have them as a memento of that game. Don't wear it or swing it about etc when your team score or you're singing. Shouldn't be seen during the game at all.
A domestic league half and half is tragic, too many losers in here defending them, European games are different as it's a souvenir. Why would you get a souvenir of a game that happens twice a year
I genuinely never understood why people get so angry about them. They're no different than a matchday program. The program has the two teams that are playing in the match right on the cover but people don't get angry that Tottenham is selling something with Tottenham and Chelsea on it. They're both something you buy to remember the experience. If the scarf has nothing to do with the actual match being played and just is Tottenham/Chelsea and you wear it every week I can understand the hatred but that's not the point. You buy it because it says team A/team B on matchday x in season y to commemorate going to that game.
I've never understood the hate they get tbh, it's literally a scarf. I'm convinced most of the hate they gate is bandwagon fans that see others hate and join in.
Now, I'm an American who has just gotten into football, but in my opinion I think it's fine to have half scarves. I know the value scarves hold for a lot of fans, especially for very memorable matches they went to. They could also equally admire both teams and want to show a half scarf to show that. To put it shortly, if it keeps you entertained and gets you in the game, go buy one and display it. You do you.
I have probably the weirdest / lamest half and half scarf ever knitted. Half Liverpool, half England. I think my nan got it me when i was a lad. Think she probably got it from some dodgy market stall. Definitely the most pointless half and half scarf going. I even cringed wearing it as a 10 year old. Even then I knew somethng just wasn't right.
If its your first football game and you want one as a memento or something i can kind've understand it. But other than that i can't understand why you'd waste your money on them. I remember a game at home against Hull (West Brom vs Hull) seeing someone selling them and wondering why the fuck you'd want that. People who get half and half scarves of derby games i'll never understand. Why would you want a scarf with your arch-rivals on it?
So what? you still have the memory although anyone with a half n half scarf would probably miss half the game recording themselves with a selfie stick. Rory is spot on in this video.
that last piece, so what's wrong with that. a momento, eradicate tribalism a Souvenir of the days experience. programmes have both badges next to each other...wanna ban them?
Thanks to Charlie, Rory, The Redmen, Ricky and everyone else who was interviewed for contributing.
Where do you guys stand on half & half scarves?
I'd never buy one but it doesn't really bother me that much tbh. I think people who buy them do so like someone would buy a post card or a key ring

Yes mate plenty more of these Ball Street Originals docs coming!

You guys collect football scavers? I wanna start one, can you help me? I got questions
2:26 that happened yesterday to Liverpool fans!
I always thought they were made for neutrals or as mementos for big games.
Fuck that.

Forget the shit scarves can we talk about how good videos like this are. Keep it up and you might hit 70k by 2019. Criminally under subbed channel.
European half and half scarves are great momentos of some of the best nights, especially if you like the other team.
The snobbery of football puts people off, it's ridiculous.
So do you think it's ok to collect them if they have a meaning like your club playing against your hometown club or when it's a european game?
Love this type of feature love to see more small short film
I get the memento thing with the half and half scarves especially in Europe or a memorable games! But id buy it after the game not before and then wear it! Only to collect!

european games is fine, but in my opinion, if someone is going to arsenal vs west ham for example, and buying a half and half scarf then its not on
brilliant piece lads , more videos like this will be ace !

More vids like this guys good stuff
The fact that it has Premiership on it should be enough for people not to buy them
I think there’s only 2 times it’s acceptable is if it’s a small team playing a big team and European games other than that no chance
Maybe I'm casual trash but if you don't like em just don't buy em. I don't get it. What's so erroneous about it?
When Liverpool went to rome i had to get one

Why don't they just make one with the Club's colour and put the fixture in the middle, ground at the bottom and opponent at the top
Excuse me, just a Mexican walking through. I thought we took futbol seriously, lol. You should see the debate about jerseys over here
I'd buy a Shakespear pulis half and half scarf, yes, that really happened
Buy one and put it in your car or bag, whatever, then fine; have them as a memento of that game. Don't wear it or swing it about etc when your team score or you're singing. Shouldn't be seen during the game at all.

Only have one it has my second team and my first team
thought the PL banned them
Finding myself finally agreeing with Rory here wow
Haha. First time for everything eh...
I've never understood the hate they get tbh, it's literally a scarf. I'm convinced most of the hate they gate is bandwagon fans that see others hate and join in.
unless it is for a significant game the scarf should be drop kicked to row z
Now, I'm an American who has just gotten into football, but in my opinion I think it's fine to have half scarves. No there terrible your wearing another reams colours

Should be banned & illegal.
MIKE TYSON disgusting
'things i don't like should be banned'
MIKE TYSON they are a discrace to real fans and the true passionate supporters of any club.
Nothing wrong Imo with a half and half when it comes to champions league etc... but not a chance with 2 English clubs
If its your first football game and you want one as a memento or something i can kind've understand it. But other than that i can't understand why you'd waste your money on them. They're disgraceful. it Baffles me why anyone would even consider spending money to wear one.
So what? you still have the memory although anyone with a half n half scarf would probably miss half the game recording themselves with a selfie stick. Rory is spot on in this video.
I go to every home game and I bought a half and half when we played Hoffenheim. They're a great team I follow. What's wrong with that?
Thomas Shepherd obviously you see football in a different way but I don’t care how great a team we’re playing are I’d never don another clubs crest.
Thomas Shepherd I can understand more for European fixtures but personally wouldn’t go anywhere near one.
Michele Frisoli I never called anyone a glory hunter.
Flav looks well awkward doing the walk and talk section, the lanky bastard. Great video though.
They're up there with the plastic flags, they shouldn't exist but they do.
Let me just throw this out. People who buy half and half scarves are knobs. Pure knobs.
This is idiotic, I would get one to symbolize the match, to remember that specific match between the teams
He’s gotta calm down. It’s just a scarf.
OK for kids maybe. Like wearing a club shirt is ok for kids. Yes for kids......
Only a nonce would buy one
Subtitles needed to understand the scouse market trader.
C.B Black
We’re not that hard to understand
Yes, you are!!! It's not a common accent to hear for non-English speakers. I didn't even recognize it was English at first.
that last piece, so what's wrong with that. a momento, eradicate tribalism a Souvenir of the days experience. programmes have both badges next to each other...wanna ban them?
Not sure what the hate is about. You guys understand how economics works right? This tribalism in football is crazy.
Outrage over a scarf?? Really
Half and half scarves are awful and should be banned.
JOSE MOURINHO OUT
Charlie Skillen looks like my nan, I'm not even joking.
Get over it please
