You missed the best bit from the England v Sweden match, the England fans where chanting “you’re shit, but your birds are fit” (as you shown) but about 30 seconds later, the Sweden fans started chanting “go home, to your ugly wives”. Best football chant come back ever

As an england fan my favourite chant has always been the "please dont take me home" one. Always pulls me back to our great 2018 world cup run, the euros game vs germany in 2016, and our final run in the euros in 2021. Especially in the moment it just reminds you how special football is.
Sport is bigger than religion here, it seems. One of the coolest things I've seen is a city throwing a massive celebration for their football team - not because they had WON anything, but because they *hadn't* been relegated to a lower division after a really shitty season. I thought it was brilliant!

As an English woman, only time I've felt patriotic is at a football or rugby match 😂 our primary assemblies teach us how to sing in unison, they get us young, starts off as Christian hymns and turns into sport chants... Or Sweet Caroline 🤣

It’s crazy how the ‘your defence is terrified’ was by a lad local to me from a little town called Wigan. He used to post a song every Friday but change the words to suit his team, this one caught on and went massive 😂😂
Bristol city started that song in 2007/8 season

That last clip reminds me of a story my father in law Bill told me.
Early 2000s FA cup final at Wembley, Sunderland vs Charlton Athletic.
Bill was a huge Sunderland fan and traveled down by train. The whole carriage was full of Sunderland fans chanting and singing.
At one point a young boy sitting with his Dad stood up and started a Charlton Athletic chant. The Dad looked terrified!
The Sunderland lads cheered the boy and told him to sing loud and proud!
It was 1998 and the play off final

And Scotland uses 1 of 2 songs Scotland the brave or The flower of Scotland neither of which is officially their national athem
My favourite this season has been “your wife is a grass, your wife is a graaaase, Jamie Vardie, your wife is a grass” when Leicester played Arsenal (after his wife lost a court case for selling stories to the papers about another footballer and his wife)

@@benironside1264 They actually don't haha. When you go to games you'll hear a lot of different chants long before the game (like on the train or in the pub) & you'd be surprised how quickly you just learn them because it's largely the same dozen tunes & really simple lyrics normally repeated.
Same with coming up with them, it's actually really easy to think of something & make it fit a tune, but getting it to catch on en masse... is a tad more difficult lmao.

It's an experience I've never replicated. Can't beat a live football match. The feeling of starting off a chant is immense too. When you start the first line and by the time you start the second there's 20k people merging with your voice!
At white hart lane, the old one, if we were at the back of the park lane area it was metal walling and it would rattle when you hit it. It was great fun being able to start a chant or song by banging a rhythm out on the metal wall, especially if there were a few of us doing it. You could make some great noise.

A few years ago, my team, Ipswich Town were playing Millwall, a London based club. The weather was terrible and so they announced that the road back to London was flooded with rain and was impassible. Within seconds the Ipswich fans started singing "4-1 and you can't get home"!! Football humour is wonderful!

My Great Uncle Alfred was a great football supporter for Portsmouth - he went to the match every Saturday since a child. Portsmouth was a team which moved from one league to another, up and down, but he stead fast. He was such a supporter that later in life he was given the statute of VIP - he was so proud, dear Great Uncle Alf !

The German bombers chant is definitely iconic, that video there was in Berlin when England beat Germany 5-1. We beat them in the last euros competition and the whole country went wild for like a week
When we scored against england ( northern ireland) we started singing sweet caroline haha we went on to win that match and we've been singing about it ever since lol its also how the away in a manger chant started then the northern ireland fans stop at he lay and start just repeating HEALY HEALY lol
In the 90s Man City had a German forward called Uwe Rosler. Someone found out his Grandad served in the Luftwaffe im the Bomber squadrons.
After that was revealed Man City fans started singing "Uwe Roslers Grandad bombed the Stretford end" when they visited Old Trafford

The national anthem clip was especially good as that was a game in France. That wasn’t a home game.
The national anthems are sung at the beginning of every international game, the anthem of both countries playing of course.
Fun fact, the English national anthem is actually Jerusalem and not God save the Queen/King.

England doesn’t have an official national anthem. It is something that has been put forward a few times but the bill has never been passed. 2016 was the last attempt, I believe, and I’m pretty sure it was Land of Hope and Glory. Until a bill to change it is passed, God Save the King will be continue to be sung at sporting events. A public vote resulted in Jerusalem being sung at the Commonwealth Games, where Land of Hope and Glory had always been sung, but that was a public fan vote, and was not official.
Neither though, are official National Anthems. Again, there is not have a national anthem of England, other than the British anthem, God Save the Queen/King, which I think is atrocious.

Root for Brentford! Small, family club. Amazing story. Have gone from the 4th tier of English football (League 2) to the 1st tier of English football (Premier League) in 12 years. Tiny budget in comparison to the other Premier League teams, second season in the Premier league. Doing big things with a small budget. Really well run club with good owners and fanbase.

The National Anthems are sung at every international football game. The 2 teams will line up on the pitch, then each one is performed. Us England fans tend to really get involved & every one of the fans will sing. Other countries do sing theirs too, but not like us for some reason. It is a proud moment & really unifies the fans.

We have over 1000 years of culture. We're an old country. This chanting can just spontaneously happen anywhere. It's something primordial. Anyway, I was in church at my mates son's christening about 5 years ago and chanting broke out on the steps of the church during pictures. It was all friends and family and it was amazing. Cars were honking their horns and random people joining in, taking pictures. No booze. No drugs. Just the urge to celebrate the little guys day in a unique way. It's just being English.

I will be honest, for my own reasons I tend to try to pretend I am not English when abroad in Europe..
I am English and French, and I lived and worked in France one summer many years ago and we used to go to the one and only bar near the resort..
One afternoon there were two matches being shown in the bar... on one side on a big screen was Lyon vs Marseille.. on the other side there was a small screen showing Liverpool vs Manchester United. I distinctly remember watching the Frenchmen, sitting at tables, drinking their Pastis or démi bíere.. they were discussing the match very calmly, obviously lots of hand gestures but they were discussing tactics and the like... the players and their performance... very civil....
But from there I could hear shouting , from the other side...
I walked around to the other side of the bar to see a group of Englishmen standing, beers in their hands , shouting, pointing at the screen "you must be blind referee! You f**king c*nt!!" The shouting, the rudeness, made me feel really uncomfortable in that situation..

I was really embarassed , and chose to spend the rest of the afternoon amongst the Frenchmen because they were less scary 😬

It was awesome watching your reaction to my country's tradition with football! There are much ruder songs out there but they are from our leagues mainly, England chants are very tame in that respective. If you do ever go to a match make sure it's a derby like Arsenal vs spurs or England vs Germany the atmosphere is electric!!

The best thing about the World Cup is even if you aren't particularly a football fan, everyone gets on board. Everyone is chanting in the pubs when you go to watch the games, it's just the best night out. Everyones in it together

It's relatively simple but my favourite chant is "is there a fire drill?" as your team are winning away and the home supporters are leaving early.

I was at the England v Wales Game in France and when the national anthem was sung, the whole stadium shook.

I feel the "Vardy's on fire" is an old chant adapted from the '70s football hooliganism days of "Your car is on fire, you're going home in an ambulance".

The national anthem is only sung at special events, such as international matches, or at club matches which conclude a tournament or a season, such as the FA Cup Final, League Cup Final, Play-off Finals, etc. The national anthem isn't routinely performed at regular club games throughout the season.

You should consider supporting Leicester City, we had no hope of ever winning the league and then suddenly we won! In the same year our basket ball team won their league, and we found the remains of King Ricard 111 under a city carpark! The whole city was out in force that weekend, you couldnt walk through the town center it was so busy. And to top it sll off Kasabian who are a massive well loved band in the uk, who are all boys from Leicester performed a concert on one of our parks.
I think we are pretty crsp at footbsll again mind you😂

I worked in British football stadiums and hearing 20.000 people chanting is something to experience.I loved it!! Brits normally pick their team from the area /town/city they were born in. And yes it's every game you will hear chanting. Some chants get political or just a little rude or really rude.
