Thanks for posting Gezza, very interesting. Although there was some controversy at the time with the development of Flinders Park (loss of public space - a couple of footy ovals), it is amazing what the area now looks like with Melbourne Park, removal of rail yards/buildings, and the link between Monash freeway and Exhibition street complete and the tram extension. Also in my lifetime, all the MCG stands demolished and rebuilt, Another benefit IMO is stopping cars being parked at the MCG and the development of Yarra Park.
MCC stand was built the same year as Bradman's debut, and finished up with Brisbane winning a GF with the floodlights on. Wasn't the best looking, but it stood for 74 years.
Terrific vid, and all songs and balloons. Do they still let all the balloons go now or not? , thoroughly enjoyed that. Gee the city has grown so much since older vids.
But only hold 60,000 people. Don't get me wrong. I'm with Gerard Whately, that is every four years hold the GF (twilight) interstate at a stadium with a minimum capacity of 60,000, like 'Optus'. However, the 'G' is the mecca of Australian football, so for three of those four years hold it there with a starting time of no later than 3 p.m.
Adelaide shits all over both of them. The G lost a lot of character with the redevelopment and dismantling of the old members stand and Optus is just another soulless concrete colossus
One of the most amazing stadiums in the world. The MCG
Fantastic video thanks 🙏 Gezza.

Awesome
Interesting how the members stand roof changed from a white look in the mid 80s back to its original look in the mid to late 90s.

@@BoxofficeForney6969 yeah I know it stood until 03 but I'm just curious about the roof situation. It must've been replaced or restored in the 80s.

Optus stadium in Perth blows this old relic into the stoneage 😜💪🇦🇺
