    I like the wax paper better when no flow, because I've had feeder drip and practically go through newspaper and introduce em instantly.Ive stole your dumping and letting em walk in new hive and I love it,fast and works soooo well!

      Isn't it the best?! I learned that from a gentleman who was almost 80 and after he did that my mind was blown at the implications!

    I cut the corner of a box and stapler it on the underside of the lid for ventilation last summer But the weather is in the mid-'40s at night and mid 50-60's during the day I think I will remove the cardboard so they don't catch a cold.

    Kamon, why not just knock the bees in the plastic nuc into the top box? Just wondering.

    • @salambeekeeper9464
      @salambeekeeper9464 4 роки тому

      hi, as beekeeper you shouldn't shake the bees from the plastic box because the debris from opening cells and varoa mite if any dropped from bees, its just precautions.

    I'm a first year keeper and I only have two hives. I split late in the summer to start the second hive. The split colony is weak and the new queen is not performing well. I considered doing the same thing and splitting again in the spring with a new queen. Didn't consider the paper barrier though. I LIKE IT...Not sure yet if I will try joining them or not but it is good to see someone else verify that option can work.

      Joseph Vogel she may not be laying much due to the time of year. Give her some empty frames, pollen and feed and if she is mated good she will lay it up going into winter

    Great Video Kamon, you sure know how to muster your bees for winter. Looking forward to seeing the follow-up. What do you recon the flying bees do that come from the colony you de queened?

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 років тому

      The way I look at it the forager bees are not going to overwinter anyways so they can either join up with this hive, another hive, or die now since they will be shortly perishing anyways. Our bees are bringing in zero resources so they are just going to eat up reserves if they stick around.

    I think you should have dumped those stranger bees in the top. I think the numbers for the bees would have been a bit better. thanks for the video. good work.

    If I feed my bees pollen paddy and sugar-water NOW is that going to make the queen think she needs to lay more even though the weather is cold. I hoping she doesn't produce any queen because I won't know what to do.

    What would happen if you missed a queen and ended up with 2 in the box?

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  4 роки тому

      Hi Cecil, Good question. The colonies would end up with one queen after one was taken out. However, sometimes they will both live and work together for a little while. Kinda rare though. There is no reason to find one of the queens and eliminate her unless one is inferior.

    • @cecildean3648

      @@kamonreynolds Thanks, just combined 2 weaker hives and could not find a queen in the smaller one. They have been getting robbed big time. I have a robber screen on the hive but they found how to get around it. I know that smaller one could not make thru the winter and was not sure about the other so combining them sounded like a good ideal. Got a full frame of honey from another hive and plan on getting 1 or 2 more this weekend after they have eaten thru the newspaper.
