Every week, the Electrifying.com meet online to discuss all the important matters at hand. Such as the weather, what we’re all having for our tea and who dumped who in last night’s Love Island. Between these heavyweight subjects, we also talk about electric cars. A lot. Probably an unhealthy amount to be honest.
And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.

Love my XC40 P8 could not cope with the Tesla no buttons concept - hence why I would not buy a EX30. We did look at one for 2nd car but just no.
Driving long journeys is so much easier now as there are loads of new stations which have multiple units. In the Volvo we tend to just set off now and when we want to stop just press the button in the Google Maps and pick one of those offered. Easy.
Mollys Dinner was brilliant. Not to mention 20 options from there in less than 3 miles

Hello, I'm from Rhodes. There are a lot of electric cars going around, most of them are Tesla Ys and VW ID 3 or 4. Charging is problematic though. I have my own charging installation as do many others. The island is 120kms long so you don't need large battery cars. And yes, you are right. There are a lot of older cars going around. It's very expensive to get a leased car.
Wow - thanks for the reply. Rhodes is lovely - wish I could have stayed longer. Yes, I didn't see many charging locations - there were a couple on the harbour but looked pretty old. I'm always surprised to see so few solar arrays given how much sun is on offer. Mike
@@Electrifyingcom About the solar energy. In the post monetary crisis, post covid, Ukrainian war Greece, borrowing money is expensive for the households. Spending this money on solar panels maybe is not that beneficiary. On the other hand, almost all houses have solar water heaters. But also, we Greeks are traditionalists, slow adopt new technology. I must add though that the 57% of total power consumption in Greece comes from renewable energy.

THE THING was a great name for the VW 181 (Kubel) and the Citroen OLI should carry that name.
The “snake eating a man” on the Alfa trademark is the biscione, the coat of arms of the Visconti family who ruled Milan from the 13th to the 15th century, it’s now used by many companies based in Milan, including Alfa Romeo and the football club Inter Milan.

Good to hear the correct Tesla news about the model 2. I wasn't panicking as I was confident they wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot, investors weren't as confident I hear.
I went on Zap Map the other day to plan a route and was a bit shocked to find that I now have to subscribe to use it. As someone who is allergic to spending money, I tried to see what google maps could do and found that this caters for EVs nicely. No need to subscribe, farewell Zap Map, it's been nice knowing you.
I'm totally with you on the 'things staying on until you turn them off'. It's so annoying to have to re-set preferences every time you start the car. I like the look of the Milano/Junior and noted in Nicolas' film that it has a DNA mode switch as the Mito did. Let's hope this stays in mode unlike the Mito that defaulted back to N when you turned it off. The thing that surprises me is that when planning these things, companies only need to ask the few hundred people working in their offices and I am confident that they would get the right answer in no uncertain terms.
I'm also with you on the re-use of names like Puma and Mustang on cars quite unlike the heritage that the name has. Do companies not understand the value of a brand? Both of the cars that find themselves hated because of their names are good and worthy cars but should have had different monikers.
When you mentioned old names that spring to mind, I was reminded of one of the first turbo Volvos. The large turbo badge on the rear had a very stylised T and so actually read Jurbo, Always made me smile when I was behind one.
The Alfa-Romeo Junior is a small car designed for a younger driver. It’s much smaller than many similar cars and is more a small sporting saloon/ hatchback than anything else. The original Junior, if my recollection is correct, was an open sports car.

Hello team. I look forward to watching your show each week from my home in southern California and enjoy the chemistry between you all (both the congenial and sometimes awkward type of chemistry). I have a couple of questions.
1. I am a fairly new electric car owner who has only had his BMW i5 eDrive40 for about 4 weeks now and am loving it so far. I can charge from home and rarely take long trips so the 300 mile range suits me fine. Since getting the car, my wife has started talking about replacing her ICE Mazda CX-9 with an all-electric vehicle. What do you think about having only two electric cars in the family? Do you think that is a smart idea, or should we perhaps buy a plug-in hybrid as our second vehicle for any long trips in our future? It was easy for me to go electric knowing that we always have the 2nd ICE car in the family "just in case", but with only two all-electric vehicles, I'm wondering if that would be perhaps a little too risky.
2. At the risk of sounding like a vulgar North American, I have to ask Mike about his finger nails. You have some of the fanciest nails I've ever seen. So much so that I just have to ask you why you keep them so long and shiny. This is not a judgement, just a question out of curiosity from someone who usually keeps their nails quite short and un-polished (I mean this question in the most respectful way possible). Hoping you're willing to share a little bit of your personal style with us. :-)

One of the post bag comments referenced that the Alfa Romeo Milano/Junior is under powered but I believe I heard that a Veloce version is on its way based on a slightly different platform with around 230bhp. Any further information on that would be appreciated. Maybe even a Quadrofoglio in time as well? Also very interesting to see what they can do to differentiate it from the Jeep and Fiat in terms of driving dynamics as you alluded to. Finally I think that new grille is growing on me!

I saw the Ford Explorer in the flesh at the Everything Electric Show in Exxcel London. I really liked it. Good size, roomy not too big, longer range than the ID4… No doubt that was the top spec so we’ll have to see what the regular ones have.
Alpha Romea should have called it the "Polonia" which is Italian for Poland. Or better still the Polacco which means Polish, that would have been a ✌️to the Italian powers that be! 😁
Edit: Tom needs to sort out his jumpy camera btw. It didn't bother me when I watched on my phone but now I watch it on the TV screen with my wife he's popping about all over the place and driving me nuts!😅

Heated seats and steering wheel remain on in a Nissan Leaf. Also, car names, I did hear a few years ago that Vauxhall were going to name their Astra Vans 'Gloria' 🙂
Will you be doing a comparison between the MG4 and the BYD Dolphin? Nicola said she was going to do one months ago but it hasn’t happened yet!!! Your car comparisons are the most informative and concise usually, especially if Im helping someone else to buy a car like I am in this case!

Car name: Best ever is the Vauxhall/Opel NOVA. In Spanish, "no va" means "it doesn't go"! 😃
GM, the parent company of Opel/Vauxhall at that time, also made a Chevrolet Nova back in the 70s.

Sometimes when you are out on holiday you don't need a fast charge. You can find a low speed destination charger and enjoy a lunch and charge slowly for over an hour.
The heated seats in my Citroën E-C4 stay on. Switch the car off and the next morning, the seats are on as soon as you turn the car on.
Thank you for the Kilowatt Half hour great as usual, the best thirtyish minuets of the week. The poor Alfa, just give it some letters and numbers instead of a name. Look at the trouble Hyundai caused with K**a. Mazda MX5 sounds better than the Mazda Miata and even Rover ditched names eventually.

I live not far from Toronto and there are a few Mustang Mach-E in my neighbourhood which given the limited choices in the market is not surprising… One day we might get the Stellantis /Renaults/Chinese things you kats have but we’re not there yet

My favourite car name is Valiant.
I’ve had everything from my first vehicle, a Mk 1 Escort van through a Triumph Herald known as the Triumph Herald of Free Enterprise because it had a major accident two weeks after I got it. The next car was a Morris Marina 1.3 - an absolute nightmare to drive - and my mother’s yellow Allegro - a much nicer ride. The Marina was followed by a very old and equally unreliable Volvo 340. I never had another petrol Renault since!! That was followed by an automatic Mini Metro - DON’T GO THERE!!!! And then I had a tiny SMArt car in its cabrio from, another‘close but no cigar’ car. My best two cars have been the Honda Jazz Automatic ( my last car) and my Renault Zoe. The Zoe has been 100% reliable and much more economical than the Jazz ever was. Give me electric any day of the week!!
IONIQ 5 2 menus to get to the heated seats and steering wheel controls? Why would you not touch the ‘warmer’ button that takes you straight to the heater controls.

When it comes to charging I would look for Tesla super chargers that are open to all. They can be half the price of Instavolt, Gridserve etc.

I have a friend who’s forename is Milan. He was born in the Netherlands, does he have to change his name? Probably depends on where he was conceived. I doubt his parents are going to tell the Italian government.
