Yay me too, well I wasn't lucky enough to be quite such a long-standing subscriber, only discovered the channel as lockdown approached but then I only discovered UA-cam then!
What I want to know is how do they discern which of their subscribers are women with all the different handles used on accounts these days? My name is not gender specific and there must be others out there who are the same. Personally I reckon the count has been done by men who....well I was going to say: "can't see the wood for the trees" but that seems wrong now I've written it! 😅

@@judebrown4103Google accounts have a gender segment so that's the big way UA-cam captures it, otherwise they use your advertising id to try and work out your gender to a degree of confidence
Another nerdy woman here! They use the statistics provided by youtube. As far as I know they're based off information provided by users to youtube to indicate a gender when you specify one in the settings. I don't know what happens otherwise. I've only been following for about two years, when I started searching around for how to make the air to water heat pump work better and what to take into account for a house PV system.
Part of the 8 percent. Picked up my pink BYD Dolphin today. Soon to get my solar panels and home battery. Love Everything Electric and Fully Charged.

Thank You for adding these discussions from the Everything Electric show. I would love to go, but none are close to me and it's great that you have added those videos back. Initially when you and Jonny did the fully charged shows you would record them and play them and I really enjoyed them.
Yeah, I really miss the walk-arounds where they would show some of the vendors and the events and actually publishing the talks.

Ricky I’ve wanted to do a pool / house heat exchanger for years. An in-ground pool can absorb heat endlessly. I learned this when I used to try to heat one with gas… ugh what a waste.
This is really interesting! Where are you located (broadly?) I noticed for example that an uncommon number of houses in Belgium have outdoor pools- this would explain why!!
I find it strange there seems no movement to integrate household appliances into a house wide heatpump infrastructure. Especially as it seems mandatory to buy only standalone heatpump tumble-dryers that take so long to operate that you need two of them to keep up with a single busy washing machine. But there is the fridge, freezer and oven as well that should be integrated but seems no option to do so.

@@Alessandro---I lived in El Paso, TX when I first had the idea. The deep in ground pool stayed cool and the AC ran constantly… Now I live in Hawaii where most ppl heat their water with solar.
@@johnpublicprofile6261Agree, heat could be moved around with heat pumps. For higher heat demands solar thermal could be used. Solar thermal is far more efficient than photovoltaic.
The passion for EV's will build. I went to a home built meeting in a Seattle park about twenty years ago and the dead quiet torquey contraption that I got to drive felt like magic to me. I've been riding an E-bike for a couple of years and every time I ride it amazes me. I went to high school during the peak of muscle cars, rode dirt bikes and snowmobiles. I will not miss that noise, Battery advances will make EV's cheaper and the performance will be remarkable. If the cars will be moddable, kids will really get into them.

The AC Propulsion T-zero was the vehicle that planted the seed of the modern EV revolution. The T-zero was what gave Elon Musk the inspiration for the original Tesla Roadster and he actually licensed technology from AC Propulsion for the first Tesla Roadster.
There's no such thing as a 'government grant' it's taxpayer's money.
Just like the massive tax payer funded subsidies for oil companies, and the endless wars for oil... except not inefficient dirty filthy polluting technology.
Couple of things. At ExCel saw the Rivian and F100, gf (one of the woman dragged along 😉 ) pointed out the storage space behind cab of R1T would be great for chain saws etc putting them out of sight, so +1 for the newbies, but then when getting in and out of cab it becomes apparent which firm has been around for over a hundred years, with my slightly limited mobility hopped in and out of F100 with no problems, my first attempt at getting in R1T was a failure, it was only later in day that we returned and being determined to sit in the R1T that with a bit of head scratching worked out how to get in it.
Bring back the station wagon.

Ricky & Elliot should do a Biannual "Two Bald Men in a Car" series.
I found the conversation between Elliot and Ricky discussing Chinese demand quite interesting. Elliot highlighted his challenges with purchasing a BYD Seal(?) in China and the issue of scaling production and actually meeting demand came to mind. However, I have also watched stories on Arriva's micro-factories. I acknowledge there is a significant difference between boutique/bespoke production tailored to the client's specifications and mass production. I sense that at some point the resistance to EVs will burst and manufacturers will be flooded with orders, will they be able to cope?
When's Elliott taking Ricky to China, now that would be a great show, in fact it would make a great series.
Love this show. I am disabled and just sorting my second electric car. Currently a Hyundai Kona. Looked at BYD yesterday. Their style is for young people but well made. Here comes another Kona. BYD could wipe lots of bigger car companies if Ford doesn't look out!
The entry level version of an XPENG G9 is a third of the price of the RANGE ROVER and kicks the shit out of the brand driven by bastards, toffs and assholes.
Love the comment about viewership as we watch the studio lights reflecting off all the bald heads. 😮 Elon tried to make EVs sexy but you can only do so much once culture is ingrained. Big sells but the planet needs small or at least right sized... only people think too big is normal and what they need. Ricky is right about pushback and I think the fight will be long and dirty.
I am so glad I got to live now before we ruin it all and we will. We may live longer and healthier today but they never quote measures like species and habitat loss. We don't just need EVs, we need sustainable transport solutions but most people won't compromise and won't get an EV unless it costs less with no loss of convenience. That is a recipe for failure. End mini rant.
Great chat as always, I really enjoy these. As to Chinese cars into America, much depends on the American car shoppers desires to get the biggest car they can. The American car companies responded to that by being very good at making large cars. Should that change, as it did during the oil crisis in the 70's, the Chinese EVs might have a shot, in particular is it would take many years for the American car companies to re-learn how to make good small cars.

Pretty odd nervous tick going on about the viewer figures... yes, there are female engineers and electric addicts watching. Perhaps you need to talk to us more, and about us less, and stop pretending we are some sort of exception.
Everything about the EV market is still about men, including cars built for man sized people. We really are pissed with this. We dont need the headroom, we dont have a problem with leg space, and we do need boot space - you know, for the buggies, shopping, laundry, cleaning supplies...🙄

I'm afraid the headroom thing will have to stay I know two ladies that get very irked by a lack of ones 6'2 the others 5 11" and large with long legs..
So can we please keep all the stats and remember low cars are bad for backs esp if you have to put heavy stuff like kids into them. 😉

Being taller tends to result in more back problems pregnancy and carting babies and toddlers around is a fairly universal problem that combined with cars is a bit of a nightmare. Ditto having to get heavy loads and bags in and out of vehicles where you have to double over to reach in and place or remove them. It's one of the reasons along with crappy road surfaces and oversized speed control measures that I blame for the proliferation of the SUVs. and huge off roaders.

High-powered ICE sports cars roaring their engines at traffic lights will become a thing of the past and we shouldn't worry about appealing to the people who drive these. They will ultimately be the kind of individuals who go to steam rallies today or who volunteer to run old locomotives on defunct railway lines.
Keep dreaming fan boy , hot rodders and hi performance enthusiast will always be around. It's a culture over a hundred years old that's passed down thru the generations . Were not going away over EVs. Motorsports has already proven electric cars do not fill the stands anything like real race cars and bikes. ICE will be around longer than you will live.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is already being promised a redesign for the 2025 model year. Reuters mentioned this when discussing Ford’s production plans for the Lightning.
BYD already makes a super nice car several in fact for less then 20k... right now..
Maybe someone can help me here. Latest scares I'm hearing on the way to my first EV. 'Because you can't get the parts, often for months and are hugely expensive, insurance is impossibly high'. True/False? I'd love some real-world experience here, especially for the Chinese models.

It seems really strange and frightening that you and I can see that the Chinese are going to decimate the European and North American Legacy car makers, but those manufacturers themselves seem oblivious to it and continue to drag their heels. I think Robert made a good point about the average car buyer of today. Cars are very much just appliances now in the vast majority of cases. Hence why it is so difficult to find a car that really involves the driver these days without going way too far upmarket and getting a BMW or Porsche or similar. It will be good to have an Electric Alfa at long last.
Dealers have 15 years of service business after they stop selling their last ICE. People are going to want to keep their ICE vehicles on the road as long as possible if they have not already transitioned.
Low cost EVs such as a Bolt of a used EV are great value propositions for lower wage earners. Model Y and 3 are super for the middle class. Negaive experiences from charging infrastructure soured the bright hopeful EV story. This could be corrected and when it is, EVs again must be marketed for the wonderful saviors they are.
Ricky just described exactly what China did... Chinese auto makers made and are making cars that we want to drive to own to see to race to lease... Make them and they will buy them and love them..

I think you find that GM's platform is 99% manufactured from concentrated PR.
The real problem with the chevy bolt...........it was DESIGNED to be a failure and show that EVs sucked "Lets go back to gas cars". They got surprised, because of Tesla, that it was accepted and purchased!!
We heard zero about the Chinese EVs like Nio, Onzo, etc. which are better than Tesla, imo, and cheaper. Nio sells their cars with no batteries! They lease the batteries separately. Therefore, with the lower prices, their cars meet the ev credit requirements and have lower tariff penalties as well. Batteries are commodities and are not considered cars. Nio offers swapping stations that can change out their battery pack in less than five minutes. No waiting in charging lines. (their cars can also be plugged in at home charging stations.) This has turned the tables on the $7500 credit scam, and the result is that it's made evs affordable for everyone. This is the future.

Renault did battery leasing over here and it had mixed results I think, but they dropped it in the end. They didn't have battery swapping though. I think it's only really worth having for people who need long range. Most people can have daily driving covered by charging either at home or work or on fast chargers etc. There definitely is a market for swapping but the stations will cost nio lost of money.

There are political issues and there are legislative issues, but there is no such thing as a brake issue. When brakes don’t work properly you most definitely have a problem.
Ricky replies to Elliot that Tesla is going to be just fine, but Elliott suggests Tesla are not innovating enough, the model 3 refresh is old, they are behind in FSD because they don’t have lidar or radar and Tesla’s future could be rocky. Which rock has Elliot been living under??? Ricky was a proper gentleman he didn’t laugh, but instead explained how Tesla is focusing (innovation) on cost etc and that Toyota 4 Runner hardly ever got refreshed. Elliot’s sarcastic disparaging comment that Tesla has been talking about the model 2 for ever, and that Tesla’s are everywhere is simply dumb. I’m a fan of constructive criticism but not from creatures that crawl out from beneath a rock. 😵💫

Time stamp from 47.00 on: Ricky explains the model 3 refresh is coming and he liked it then asks Elliot “Wasn’t that enough? Elliot replies “Not really” and proceeds to snigger and snear contemptuously. It is not becoming of an Electrified presenter to fuel personal FUD about a world leading manufacturing innovator in electrification, It was dumb. Ricky was the voice of reason, Elliot needs to take a long hard look in his mirror and ask himself if his personal preferences are doing the general electrification mission any favours?
Tesla's are brilliant, but they aren't the be all and end all of evs. Especially at the bottom end of the market, a lot of people don't want a fairly big, fairly expensive saloon. Small to medium hatchbacks are the number one car throughout Europe. I think thats where Elliot is coming from maybe.
There's a difference between 'made in China' and being a Chinese brand - the latter is what needs to be "disguised" somehow. Perhaps they could buy some well-known US brand, like they did with Volvo and MG...somehow people are more able to forget/ignore that it is Chinese.
IMO, the anti-China (really, anti-communism) sentiment in the USA is way too strong for obviously brands to be successful.

China as a nation is sinister and dishonest. Will they honour their guarantees? Will they load spying devices and control devices in their cars. How will they behave after subsidising and copyright violations dominate their way to success.
I think the EV manufacturers are too focused on large EV,s large batteries whereas the technology, at least at the moment, is only suitable for smaller commuter vehicles with small batteries that can be charged overnight from a standard power point. I'm not saying the large vehicles don't work, but they are not fit for purpose when charge stations are relatively rare (compared to petrol stations), badly maintained and cost too much per kWh. Wasn't the promise of the EV for low cost operation?
They are not suitable for smaller! I rented a Tesla model 3 and it was a painful experience. It took too much time recharging. The interior felt cheap. The exterior was really beautiful.
In Europe Model 3 would not be seen as a smaller car but I understand your point

@@Brandon_letsgoif you charge on a 3 pin then yeah it's slow but that's why you charge overnight. Using the rapid or super charger and you're done within 30mins so yes "slow" compared to a petrol pump with no queue

President Biden recently imposed a 100% Tariff on All Chinese EV Imports. I wonder if this will Kill BYD sales in North America?
Seems kind of bad faith to dog on the silverado EV because it has the same range as the model 3 despite double the battery. A honda civic will gonas far as a silverado 1500 but the silverado 1500 has double the tank. They are two completely different vehicles built for completely different things. The model 3 can't tow, it isnt built for that, it doesn't have near the cargo space, it doesn't have the capacity to power welders and what not. But thats not its job. It is an efficient economy vehicle. Like a Honda civic. In terms of what the silverado ev is, it does specifically what its built for better than any of its competitors and there are loads of videos from TFL and Out of spec proving it. It tows better and further than the rivian, lighting, and cybertruck, chargest faster than all 3, goes father without a trailer than all 3. Comparing a truck to a car is just noise, they aren't the same and can't be judged the same.
Sorry Ricky, your hope of the Range Rover being made by Tesla is only a pipe dream😊

They say 80 SMRs, 300BWR, like Rolls Royce or Hyundai Westinghouse, will replace the 25GW fossil fueled generation in Australia.
$ 2 billion to install in Australia.
To stop all CO2 emissions, 400 to 600 are needed in Australia.
But the extremely expensive national electrical grid capacity has to be 7 TIMES bigger.
Existing national grid costs $1TRILLION
Expanded capacity $7TRILLION.
Plus nuclear plant. Est $1TRILLION
Australian GDP is only $1.5TRILLION
Existing national grid built over 100years
Expansion 7 centuries and still worldwide CO2 emissions impacting Australia.
We have a big problem because nobody talks about the grid costs.
Australia's Snowy 2.0 pumped hydro expansion project budget has exploded from $2b to $20b from grid expansion costs. Not included in original budget.

Chinese EV's will enter the U.S. market, eventually, and when they do, Ford and GM will suffer, massively, to try to compete. Tesla and Rivian should be fine as they already produce near-100% automation. I welcome Chinese companies as I work for one, incorporated in the U.S., and challenge U.S. companies to compete now.
Ref the comments on how the world of battery EVs really is in decline then bad news for the 10% of Tesla staff who are to be laid off because of the lack of interest in battery EVs.
Ditto the news that this promised UK battery manufactury is now likely to be "repurposed" as a vast data centre and the promised jobs no longer exist.
Running a data centre will undoubtedly require higher skills and qualifications, possibly not met by the local workforce.
Reports are that the putative battery factory developers are delinquent on payments.

What with the latest BS63100 standard being introduced on an advisory basis it may be that HMG has "other" plans for all things "battery" in the domestic sphere.
This should be a juge hint for Robert and crinies to edge, or reposition themselves closer to the developing "hydrogen as a fuel" sector.

Love this channel, and I used to wait eagerly for Ricky's new Vids, until I was suckered by yet another full length, unannounced, infomercial. He also was dropping some nasty anti-China rhetoric, and the whole eugenics of encouraging rich people to have more children, but not the poor, through govt. intervention. Don't watch him any more, and I won't be waiting for his paid opinion on the 'Best EV'.

Mercedes already has a 48 volt system. Rear steering is far from new and stainless is back to the future next…
Mercedes "has a 48v system" in its mild hybrid for the traction motor.... NOT for steering.... Or for "general". electrics.
It's not comparable to the Tesla system.
My pedal bike has “48v architecture “ that doesn’t mean it’s like a Tesla. Drive by wire is real innovation.

The way you are talking its like you think China has developed EVs without help from non Chinese auto makers. The battery technology has American origins. When Japan started making cars it did not go smooth. Datsun made some cool cars but there were quality issues.& changed to Nissan. For this reason I would not buy a Chinese car. They are trying to ambush the market & nothing is set up properly in terms of after sales. I saw and video of the Atto 3 battery & it was glued together & almost 1:05:22 unserviceable. Just like other cheap Chinese goods from ebay.
I'm sick to death of hearing fansh*t about pickup trucks. So disappointing to hear Fully Charged going on about heavy expensive trucks and SUVs (Ricky is American so his bias is to be expected). BYD says they won't bother exporting to the USA - this is probably gamesmanship/marketing. Robert constantly pushes back against obviously popular feelings re SUVs and trucks.
The hybrid Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's, I have seen them listed over $50,000. Big Trucks in America are Super Expensive. Plus they literally guzzle GAS. So what's the point on someone driving around all day long by themselves in that if it's not work related. So no, it's not disappointing to hear anyone talk about that. In fact, we should hear more folks talking about it. Folks driving Big Trucks are stealing the future of Gas vehicles from everyone else.

I like you prefer efficiency rather then brute force. Tesla makes some of the most efficient vehicles, getting more range from less battery.
You sound like a prig. The Ford F150 has been the best selling VEHICLE in the US for DECADES. No, I've never owned one, and have only owned one pickup in my life. That does not mean I'll turn my nose up at pickups, as they are necessary to haul large or heavy items.

Went to the fully charged show at the Excell and was not impressed. Lots of building work going on with diversions, did not see a sign to the show, not even at the entrance. The acoustics were terrible, when these two were reviewing a car could not understand what they were saying, I am 76 and have poor hearing I know but usually get by, this was like they were speaking with very thick masks on, same from the stages, I could not do any test drives as too old and the insurance won't cover me. Had a go on an electric bike, two peddles and you ran out of space, quarter the size of Farnborough. Not for me ever again.

There are definitely many issues with EVs, but having been using them at work for the last few months (buses), they are so much better in many ways than the old diesels. It's shocking when I go back to driving one honestly. I believe most of the issues will be worked out given enough time. There will always be some cases that won't work with EVs in the short run, but who cares if most of them can be.

I get so depressed and extremely jealous when I’m parked next to any Tesla especially when it drives off silently. I so want one like as soon as possible That silence for me is far more exciting than any gas car and their noisy roaring piston engines.
