  • Peripheral Neuropathy is a potential long term side effect of Taxol based Chemotherapy. Peripheral Neuropathy presents as tingling, numbness and sometimes pain in the fingertips, hands, toes and feet.
Unfortunately to date, there are not many options for treatment for Peripheral Neuropathy. On a positive note, some Australian universities recently began studying techniques to reduce the impact of Peripheral Neuropathy.
One of the biggest issues from Peripheral Neuropathy in your feet, is the loss of balance secondary to loss of feeling. This can increase your risk of falls and lead to a loss of confidence with mobility.
In this first video on Peripheral Neuropathy, I focus on improving your balance with Static Balance Exercises. My patients with Peripheral Neuropathy report noticeable benefit from doing regular balance work.
However, to improve balance, you need to put yourself a little bit off-balance, so safety when performing these exercises is paramount.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please get clearance from your Medical Team prior to commencing these exercises. You may need to have your balance assessed by an appropriate Health Professional to know if it is safe for you to commence these exercises. If you are at risk of a fall you may require supervision when performing balance exercises.

Thank You, Jen, for these great tips. I have noticed that my balance is off and I have also noticed more pain in my knees. I have also noticed that my gate is off when I walk. I don't feel graceful, but awkward and clumsy. I used to figure skate in my late teens an early to mid twenties so I am very aware of when something is not right with my body. I hate that awkward feeling. I am going to discuss going to a physiotherapist with my doctor thanks to you. Keep up the good work and God bless you.

Hi! Thank you so much for your video suggestion. I have not had any patients with this condition so I wouldn't do a video on it as this stage as my clinical experience hasn't included it. So sorry. Jen
