REDCUCING THE IMPACT OF HOT FLUSHES | Triggers and Treatment for Hot Flushes after Breast Cancer

- Hot Flushes are a common side effect of Menopause, but also following Breast Cancer Treatment that for some, can cause a major impact on Quality of Life.
Some Breast Cancer Treatments, such as Chemotherapy or Hormone Blocking Medication, can be the catalyst for Menopause which is why a lot of Breast Cancer patients and survivors will experience them.
This is another topic in Breast Cancer which is not discussed often enough. Women need to be made aware of Hot Flushes and educated to an appropriate depth that can help them reduce the impact of this frustrating side effect.
In this video I sit down with the very experienced and passionate Breast Care Nurse Dr Janine Porter-Steele who discusses what triggers Hot Flushes, and strategies to reduce their impact. Janine shows us some fantastic online resources and easy tips you can implement at home.

This is excellent for those of us suffering from hot flushes! Some great ideas in the discussion -Thank you - Looking forward to the sleep deprivation discussion, a full nights sleep is just a dream to most of us going through breast cancer and/or menopause.

I am in the USA. I really appreciate the high quality information you share on your channel. This is a very important topic for women with breast cancer and going through menopause. I have found that the research from Dr Barnard on this topic very helpful. He put women on a vegan diet and a half cup of cooked mature soybeans daily. It dramatically reduced the intensity and frequency of hot flashes. I tried this and it helped me quite a bit.

I know if I have a cup of coffee with a cake or biscuits I’ll have a hot flush. The changes I’ve made since my diagnosis and starting an aromatase inhibitor are 1) no alcohol or sugary drinks if I go out for a meal, I’ll just drink soda water 2) no coffee after mid afternoon, or have a de caf coffee if I want one later on. Cutting out as much caffeine , sugary foods and drinks and alcohol has reduced my hot flushes to maybe one per day. I also do yoga breathing every morning and walking every day

Really helpful our breast care nurses don't seem to know anything. I am amazed how much information I have found on this channel that I haven't been told even from the lymphodema nurse. I feel there is a big lack of post surgury help and support .I'm in the UK. Thankyou

Thank you, I’ve found my triggers for hot flushes, they are caffeine, sugar and alcohol. I avoid all of these if I go out to eat and I have no caffeine in the evenings. It’s reduced my hot flashes to usually one per day and none at night. I take Letrozole

I get them every 2 hours, day and night. Prior to the heat I feel nauseous and get short of breath. Then the heat and sweat. The whole experience is short. At night it always seems to happen during a nice dream.
