Huh, I honestly didn't think that this would gain popularity so suddenly.
The headphone deal was born from necessity, although it created a neat effect. When I tried to do it normally, the two parts were hard to make out. I tried to balance the two halves, but it didn't appear to succeed quite as well as I hoped.
Anyway, some have been asking for a download, so:

If you mean volume, it's because the vocalist for Luna is singing at a higher pitch. Higher pitches ring through stronger. I forgot exactly what the term is, but there's a phenomenon where higher pitches are heard through louder sounds. An example would be a little girl screaming near a fighter jet with its engines on. A fighter jet's engines are extremely loud when viewed through the lens of sheer volume, but if there's another sound at a substantially higher pitch, that higher-pitched sound will be heard through the first.

Man, coming back to this in 2021 and it's still breathtaking to listen to. I'm no longer heavily into MLP anymore, in fact I haven't watched it in a few years now, but I can still appreciate these songs.
the sheer emotion captured in this is so accurate to how tia and luna would have actually felt, they just lost each other, the only pony that held any meaning in each others lives, and they're gone.... the emotion in this is truly staggering, and even the coldest of hearts will warm up after hearing this

If you've read "Past Sins" and go by that it's even more tragic! Since Luna's essence became a part of the moon that means every time Celestia moved it with HER magic she felt her sister so close, but could not hold her or say anything. Like being separated by a glass window . . .

Now all that's missing is a version similar to This Day Aria, with the duet changing between the two of them. THAT would be even better than this, though this has it's own awesomeness to it. Nothing else could top the feeling of hearing Luna in one ear, forgiving her sister and begging forgiveness in turn, while Celestia does the same for Luna in the other ear. Great idea to mash these up like this.
Perhaps the most haunting part is when they line up near perfectly and sing the same words.
Years later I still routinely listen to this version, it is hooves down the best duet version. Please get this put on spotify and pandora, get this out there! I would hate for this to be lost.

I honestly thought map was about ponies who party all the time (because of pinkie) but after hearing this song I tried it and....i love it now this is just amazing
Okay, originally I watched this without headphones and I was like, "Okey, cool. You put 2 tracks on top of each and it sounded cool" but then I scroll through the comments and see things like, 'This sounded so enchanting with headphones' or 'I normally wear 1 headphone in and I was like "This isn't a duet" until I put the second one in and realised how beautiful this song actually is.' So I go on and get my headphones, put them in and listened and I loved it. Luna was was in my right ear and Tia/Celestia was in my left. If I wanted to, I could just listen in one ear to one part as if it was the actual video or just put both in and let their voices be layered and beautiful. You've made my day. Thanks for this ^^

What i did is i alternated earbuds and when it got to the end where they say "i love you i miss you" i put both in GOOD JOB ON TEH AUDIO!!
I love the 3-D sound. It really tripped me up when i first listened on the schools computer, when i got home i learned what it sounds like with headphones... beautiful duet, amazing harmonies 10/10 would listen on repeat for hours

This is so beautiful, the music is so peaceful. Both the singers are so talented, but its not just their talent that makes it the way it is. You have you give yourself credit for blending this so well. I love how when you listen to it, if you only listen in one headphone that is, only one part comes out. This deserves the popularity it got, its truly amazing.
I loved how if I took out one of my headphones, I could only hear Luna and if I took out the other one I could only hear Celestia.
