I've been meaning to cover this track for YEARS now and I think I finally managed to do it. This was also my first time trying to master my own track.
I always imaged this response as a sort of internal battle within luna. she feels betrayed hurt that the sister she loved sent her away, but the nightmare moon inside within her still yearns for the love and power she never received from her subjects.

I love this version a lot more than the other luna's reply because it shows her actual anger and hatred at the time instead of regret and forgiveness.

@@velena31 Pretty much as Luna and Nightmare Moon are two entities, inhabiting the same body a bit the same way Darth Vader and Anakin. One caught in the anger and bitterness while the other weltered in self pity and self hate.

@@efaristi9737 That is why i made the comparision with Anakin /Vader as they were the same person essentially. But still acted a bit like a split personality as even if their main mind felt hate and anger, a part of them lived with self pity and shame over what they has done and kept doing.

Now I've herd some others like this but this one really makes you see things from Luna's point of view. It's kinda eye opening.

Well if you look at it this way. She didn't control it. As in 'Lullaby for a princess' the lyric said "Take toll of the mind of its host." So it could have took over her completely. Could you still be yourself if a literall demon takes over you? No. She did not want to hurt her subjects, she only wanted them to enjoy her night as much as they enjoy her sisters day. She was only going to bring endless night. I would love endless night. Just stars and the moon at all times. Let's not forget that when she did turn into N. Moon, she was young. Young people are rather reckless. When your young you'll be like "I'll catch the moon!" that's kinda what she thought. "I will bring eternal night!" without thinking about the consequences. It wasn't all Tia's fault, but not Luna's fault either. Tia should've seen how hurt her sister was no matter what was thrown at her. Luna should've accepted Tia's help and maybe move on. Make a night carnival. Then her subjects would be awake at night and have fun.
All of this is still no excuse for almost KILLING her SISTER!!
@@meggamiauw4266 Yeah that sounds great! It could be a prequel series called Eclipse, because it's just about the sun and moon. Discord could be in as a series finale villain. Through out the show they work up to defeating him and then it goes into Luna turning into Nightmare Moon. In the first episodes, we finally meet Luna and Tia's parents. Just a thought.
I feel bad for Luna, all she wanted is to have the same love as her sister, Celestia, has, but she was just rejected so she got jealous. The jealousy grew, and shadows fed on it. Then, when the shadows grew strong enough, they made a form of Nightmare Moon. At first Luna didn't want to cause she loved Celestia. But, the shadows pressured her and told her about the pain Celestia caused Luna. Luna grew angry at Celestia and accepted the offer. But after she did she regretted her choice. She fought back, but they were too strong. When she turned into Nightmare Moon, she knew it was too late to turn back. She fought Celestia, and as the eldest, she over powered Luna and banished her to the moon. All Luna wanted was love. I said this to teach a lesson, love all, it will do good.

I can tell why it keeps going from Sad, Regret & Sympathetic to Rage, Blameshifting & Vindictive, because Nightmare Moon was the result of Luna being trick into giving in to her Jealousy over her sister & betray Celestia, making her ripe for being possessed by an Evil Smoke-like Symbiotic Creature of Pure Nightmares, who gave Luna's Jealousy Physical Form turning her into an evil bring of Hatred, so it feels as if Luna is fighting the symbiote possessing her for dominance of her body, going from sad to mad while singing, switching from Luna to Nightmare Moon as Luna struggles within to take back her body, but she ultimately loses & becomes dormant until the Day Nightmare Moon is defeated by the Mane 6.

I love the emotion you put into this. The way you sing the "shadows of night" part definitely sounds like a spiteful, bitter younger sister.

I have to say. I wasn't expecting much, so I pressed the video and set down my phone.
At the first gasp, I picked it up immediately. You managed to keep me fully engaged (and procrastinating, I might add) the whole time, and I am now obsessed. This was so good!!!!
For Luna's side of the whole banishment story there is "The Moon Rises"
I'm getting feeling that some people might forget or associate Lullubay for Princess as mainly Luna's focus and forget about Celestias feelings. The Lullabay for Princess is indeed has big focus on Luna, but the main plot was about Celestia's sorrow and regret. She didn't meant or wanted any of this and it explained in Original song. Just saying this, so the peoples don't forget about Celestias side of the story and not get blinded by pure fangasm for Luna.
The Moon Rises and Lullaby for a Princess aren't connected in anyway. In Lullaby for a Princess, Luna turned into Nightmare Moon when she was young. In The Moon Rises, she turned into Nightmare Moon when she was an adult.
good point, but the only reason she had to vanish luna was celestia was being an attention hog. Luna just wanted to be LOVED, like tia. tia brought the sorrow on herself.

If I knew how to animate I would want to do something to accompany this(as is I'm probably gonna draw something for it heh). You capture the battle within Luna so WELL. All the other versions I've heard are all about her being sorry and regretting what she'd done, and yes she would be, but at the same time she's still carrying the hurt and loneliness that turned her into Nightmare Moon in the first place. Her ending up on the moon during any lucid moment, would shock her into hatred I feel.

There are multiple theories about Luna turning into Nightmare Moon, here are the 3 major ones for in case you'd want to know.
1) Luna did it all herself
This theorie is excactly what's explained in the show, Luna became jealous and turned into Nightmare Moon. Most times quite simple to understand.
2) Nightmare Forces
People probably got this theory based off the " Nightmare Rarity" comics, where the "Nightmare Forces" take over Rarity and turn her evil. Often it goes very well with the fan story line even though it can be guite complicated, but sometimes it feels like it's just an excuse the person made up to say: "Luna is good, it wasn't her fault."
3) a bit of both
This theory is the hardest to understand because it has so many different stories that go with it. My favorite is: Luna was a mare that out of loneliness started talking to her own shadow. One day, the shadow responded. I really like that one because it's simple and it gives the opertunity to inmagine everything happening around that moment.

I feel like 1 would make sense, I would love to see Past Luna as an evil pony being filled with hatered, jealous, and vengeance, and revenge. Imagine she purposely released her true evil self. I also believe the Mane 6 reformed Luna and made her realize.
But then I also believe that Nightmare Moon lured Luna, too..
I kinda see it as the nightmare forces just amplified the hatred she had. She might not gone that far without the nightmare but nor would the nightmare have been able to corrupt her without her own existing hatred and jealousy
for me personally I feel theory #3 makes the MOST sense because I like to think Luna was good predominately but like many people in RL I feel like due to how much she was rejected at some point it caused her to turn into herself and by that I mean she got to a point where she felt that she could only trust herself and as a result she stopped confiding in any other ponies especially Celestia. Eventually as her anger grew burning inside of her it began to manifest itself in a more tangible or physical form which eventually became Nightmare Moon and got to a point where she could no longer control it. So I think it's a little of both in that everyone has SOMETHING that they're jealous of when they see it in someone else even if they won't willingly admit to it and the more that anger and jealousy is fueled and the stronger it gets the more likely they are to lash out in someway whether that be verbal or physical. That staring point though has to exist initially or it to ever manifest. In Luna's case I think she was jealous of not just Celestia's obvious popularity in how adored she was, but also because Celestia (intentionally or not) seemed to be totally oblivious to Luna's feelings. This only served to further the idea that Celestia did not care about her and therefore couldn't be a source of comfort for Luna. As a result because she needed someone to blame for her suffering she blamed Celestia who had made no real attempt to come to Luna's aide when she was needed most.

Something I like about this version is that It shows how young Luna was. In original song Celestia's voice is deep and controlled, while the lyrics show her grief there'd no moment where she's more screaming or talking rather then singing, there's also no moments where her voice breaks. Luna's version is different. Her voice is pitched and barely controlled. Her voice breaks multiple times and in some parts It saunds more like she's talking rather then singing. This perfectly shows her emotional state. Luna is just a child. A child's emotions are a mess while in a good mood Luna was allready jelious at Celestia, getting banished only made It worse. She's gonna cry, and she's gonna scream and lash out

I really love Luna too. The creators did an awesome job with this fallen character. Her sister was the true villain and got away with banishing somepony who was completely innocent. I know that Nightmare Moon was not completely innocent, but her sister got off with the banishment and nopony really went against her when they should have.

I don't even regret so much that this is not the song I wanted to hear. I myself should have guessed that the cover will not be a repeat of the words of Luna's Soliloquy. So I should have expected something like combining both songs and adding something of yours.
It's a shame that I can't listen to Luna's Soliloquy in the same quality, but this version is also beautiful!)

In the end it's just about the pony who met her destruction just because she yearn for love and affection and her blind ignorant sister who felt guilty for not doing anything to stop her beloved sister's destructive fate.
