Thanks for covering the Russel Brand stuff. It scares me just how many people still seem willing to defend him. I have to assume they're from the US and never grew up seeing this guy behave the way he did off and on air.
Probably both @@AndrewMcColl. I've just seen so many immediately jumping to doubt the claims for fear of false accusations. As if a fear of false accusation could be somehow more important than the potential sex pest going around unchallenged. Like, they see 4 independent allegations and immediately err on the side of doubt almost by instinct.
Your honesty about Russell Brand was amazing, especially after hearing so many repeat the narrative he's fed them for years as they defend him. The industry protected him , as they have done before with celebrity predators. Keeping young girls away from his dressing room was just a sticking plaster that made them feel they were "doing tbeir bit", but what about the young girls/women that would encounter him outside of "his dressing room" , who was protecting them. Ths rest of the show was great, fabulous guest .. 👍
'If you can't be safe working around young women, you should be sacked' A simple and effective message to predators that there are consequences that THEY are accountable for. On Brand's slide to the right, my feeling, based on what Nish said about English comedians no longer wanting to work with him, is that self-interest took him there. Money, power and a support structure that won't care if he abuses women, as long as he sells the latest conspiracy theory. Snake Oil Salesman.
They knew what he was doing everybody knew what he was doing it's only when he wasn't making money for them anymore and his politics became unpopular with the establishment that they attacked him they wouldn't have done it if he was still popular. The Establishment protects its own doesn't give a rat's ass about protecting children
It's also easier to do podcasting on the right, vague sweeping suggestions and accusations and not seriously questioning batshit guests is less taxing than doing research.
First I’m in the U.K. I am not right wing. Brands reporting, that it was government coffers that funded vaccine development, which the companies suggested would be not for profit and then made HUGE profits because of the pandemic, is factual. To point out that multi global pharmaceutical companies are making squillions based on your money (via government) isn’t snake oil.
Nish's point wrt Russel Brand is spot on. We should not be shocked that a powerful man with the capacity to silence critics does so. We should ask why ANYONE has the power to silence criticism to this degree. Everyone knew something of Brand's misdeeds, some was reported on in other countries, but nobody could get it out there because he had lawyers ready to sue.
@frankie.m.pepper6974 he's silenced himself refused to comment to the press when offered right to reply, so he’s silencing himself Why doesn't he reply via mainstream media? Answer, he wants to use his created cult members. So they predictably have been repeatedly told the government want to silence him. All ready and primed to do as they are now. He's a multi millionaire.
thank you Nish for your candid response and feminist position about the systemic problem that frankly is still present in many industries and companies. We need every supporter, every conversation, every uncomfortable question, every no from men. Thanks for this!
Brand is a big fish, like Saville sized, that's why right wing propaganda agents like Tucker, Elon, and Walsh are rushing to defend him I've got a strong hunch he stayed at Trump's BFF's Island too, and uses techniques used for brainwashing straight out of the Scientology handbook
@@fay5479I think it was meant to be a bit of sarcasm towards the far right people and at the same time a bit of a dig at himself. Sarcasm addressing the people that say that their pronouns are words that aren't pronouns. Lol
Being shocked at the Russell Brand allegations is equivalent to being shocked at the Louis CK allegations: it's literally the only thing the man talked about on stage for 30 years.
@@therealnervanaI suggest you do the same. The word has literally been used to mean figuratively for almost as long as the word has been attested in writing (16th century first attestation, 18th century first positively identifiable attestation of semantic inversion to "figuratively"). Words can have more than one meaning, often in direct opposition to each other - they're called autoantonyms or "Janus words" (from the two-faced Roman deity of doorways and transitions), and include myriad examples, such as Latinate "sanction" and "inflammable" as well as contemporary colloquialisms "bad" and "sick." Language is a living thing reflective of a series of neurons and synapses organized inside people's heads, which changes from brain to brain. It is not a book or a pedantic lecture devised and created by a self-important "grammarian" to be imposed and enforced upon the masses.
🤯 incredible that Nish's friend predicted Brand's tactics a year ago. It's encouraging that we recognise the cynicism of his strategy so readily. (also cool to hear Nish read my whatsapp, feel a little starstruck 🤩)
I knew the "one bad apple" thing would come up in the policing discussion. Your guest was right to say the barrel is rotten, that's the point. The whole saying, which hardly anyone ever completes when they're busy trying to deploy it as an excuse, is: One bad apple *spoils the whole barrel*. In other words, if bad behaviour is left unchecked it DOES ruin the whole organisation! The likes of Cressida Dick don't realise what they are actually saying when they half use this phrase.
Exactly! Whether is starts with one rotten apple or a bad barrell, the result is the same. It still spreads. You have to actually look for the rot and root it out.
ONLY YES IS YES...the absence of a negative is not a positive, yet most of the justice system has depended on it. A drugged person can't say NO, an unconscious person can't say NO, and very scared and intimidated person can't say NO. Consent is a happy YES !!! I agree we need to educate what consent IS. The law needs to take this way more seriously, in the Sarah Everard case the perp had "flashed" two weeks earlier. Consent needs to be raised to 18 like the rest of the developed countries....I can't imagine as a middle aged women to feel attracted to a 16 year old child. It angers me more and more as I suffered CSA .
@Herestothe80s I want equal pay for women and men, for the same job/work... I want legal abortion, in fact I want abortion to stop being a political weapon, it's a very private medical procedure full stop 🛑 I want capitalism to be questioned deeply, pyramid schemes are SCAMS. We don have indefinite resources or live in an infinite world... capitalism can never be egalitarian or fair...it's anti democratic...it's also economic competition ...financial WAR...
Sorry Coco, but the right side if definitely better for Nish. After some extensive research (aka checking Wikipedia) I found that both of Nish's appearances on Have I Got News For You were on the left (Ian's team) and resulted in losses. Meanwhile, 11 of his 14 appearances on Mock the Week were on the right (the 'guest' team) and all were wins for that team. I neglected to check Never Mind the Buzzcocks, but I doubt the results would have changed the outcome.
@@mygenericusername that's a good point. Assuming QI lists their guests from left to right, he's won (or tied for first with Phil) more often on the right. For 8OOTC, all three appearances were on the right with two wins and a loss. Finally, for 8OOTCDO he has one appearance each side, and both were wins for the right (Jon's team). So it looks like the right is still his best side.
As an American I feel better that it isn't just our police with major issues though I feel bad for the UK. The reality is isn't just the colonialist mindset it's that bullies are given positions of power. Also I always found Russell Brand horrid. Just another insecure narcissist with control issues.
I think the mistake we all make/made with Brand is we thought he believed anything he's ever said. When he was doing his lefty stuff he didn't actually believe any of it, he was/is entirely apolitical. Likewise now, he just does what can a) make him money and b) potentially protect him.
Thank you so much for covering the Russell Brand allegations, hearing that a complaint was met with a letter from Brand’s lawyers must have been terrifying for that person. The abuse of power and systemic failures are soul crushing. Thank you for your understanding ❤ signed all women.
The law around disclosure of these things need to change 🙏🏻 it’s disgusting how he’s cloaked himself in a mask of standing up to power and he himself is the abuser.
Just found you today and listened to you while making soup (boring old leek and potato sorry Nish). Having always voted and believed it being necessary as a woman I became more aware the older I got. However, how deeply ignorant I was became apparent when I finally managed to drag myself back into education at the age of 43 in 2013 after being written off during my school life. In 2015 I eventually started my undergraduate BA snd critical thinking blew my mind needless to say I became aware of nuances in education, business, health, society and politics that had completely passed over me previously. This resulted in more hope and hopelessness than ever. How mainstream media rather than being the fourth state has become the equivalent to 18th century coffeehouses for generating societal norms which is increasing the equity gaps in society. Such as the dialogue during covid of victim scaping “undeserving poor” to “underlying issues” lead me to further disengagement from politics and mainstream media. Yet the student in me wanted to still participate and critically assess politics, this has resulted in me searching out independent news outlets that are still credible and balanced. You have been added to my growing list and will be looking forward to your future debates. Sorry for the terribly drawn out comment basically, I’m saying thanks I really enjoyed listening and will be in the future too. Thanks Kersty
A great episode. The discussion about Brand is really valuable, especially about how tolerated this kind of behaviour seems to be in the industry. While accusations are not convictions, when a company (or the like) feels the need to have policies in place, like not allowing young women alone into someones dressing room - questions need to be asked about why that person was/is still allowed to work there. Also great hearing from Logan and that he still has hope, if political will acts to make significant changes, even as dire as it seems to be now.
I watched novaramedia's live coverage of the Russell Brand situation and it brought out the grape apologists and just hardcore Brand fans. I hadn't seen mods delete stuff that fast since I last watched a msm live debate. This resistance to the discussion and effort to shut it down by his defenders is both fascinating and horrifying. To learn it was such an open secret and that the buck kept getting passed as the red flags kept coming up and victim count continued to grow, smh. But it took just a few jokes to essentially blackball him, yet also sweep it under the rug? That's a take I'm going to have to wrap my head around. *loving the autumn lewk Ms. Khan, the edit makes it so your corner is hard to spot unless that 2 shot comes up, you're gorgeous, be where you want?
//This resistance to the discussion and effort to shut it down by his defenders// That's a very good way of putting it and I hadn't thought of it that way before. They are the ones accusing others of shutting down conversations but that's exactly what they do by piling on and overwhelming the comments.
I would describe Brand's political perspective as exposing the undue influence of corporate interests on governments bodies : i. e. The FDA funding being largely funded by large pharmaceutical corps. Traditionally, this has always been a leftist perspective. He also advocates on behalf of the disenfranchised, such as the criminalisation of people with substance abuse issues and the social cleansing of the working class areas of inner cities - another traditional leftist position, you would have thought. Although, like the liberal left, there is support for marginalised communities such as the transgender community from the traditional left, there is an increasing level of resentment from working class people that they are becoming marginalised. Russel Brand is one of the few public voices that speaks to this community, without using the scapegoat tactics of the altright.
SOOOO Gooood! I always like your episodes, and this is no exception. Loved the interview! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Y'all talking about Russell Brand, made me think about how awful the situation is. He couldn't get any work in the UK because of his alleged abuse, so he ran to the loving arms of American conspiracy theorists. Smh
It certainly doesn't help when the UK's libel and defamation laws are completely backwards... you have a system that protects rich people... I guess having a monarchy is a virtue.... I guess
Russell Brand has been accused of abusive behaviour and rape by multiple women. He reckons it's a stitch up because of his anti-establishment views, but many are far from convinced of his innocence, especially given his widely-reported misogynistic behaviour at the time of these alleged offences. I'm not going to give my personal opinion here, because it's not particularly important. If he's done what he's accused of it would be completely unsurprising given what he's already publicly admitted to, but it's also important to remember that asserting allegations as fact is actually defamation, until they're actually proven. What I'm more interested in is the absurdly hypocritical reaction of the British establishment class and the media. Tory Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took time off from ruining the country to describe the allegations against Brand as "serious and concerning". If Sunak's actually so "concerned" about sexual impropriety, perhaps he'd care to publicly name the Tory MP who was arrested for rape in May 2022, and has been passed to stand again as a Tory candidate in the next election? The anonymous Tory MP that Sunak refuses to name isn't the only danger in the Tory ranks either, because the Tory party has a long and sickening track record of not just covering for their deviant MPs, but actually using knowledge of their scandalous behaviour to blackmail them into toeing the party line (remember the "Tory Sex Pest" list that Theresa May's whips used to bully Tory MPs into doing what they were told?). The Labour opposition also waded into the controversy with obnoxious aggro-centrist loudmouth Jess Phillips calling the accusations "harrowing" and saying that they make it seem like "makes it look like society accepts that women have to tolerate a certain amount of abuse". Perhaps these would be fair points if they weren't coming from a senior figure in Starmer's Labour Party which has given the party whip back to the drunk, abusive sexual harasser Neil Coyle; which hides the identity of an alleged sexual assaulter actually serving in Starmer's shadow cabinet; and which vindictively targeted local Hackney Labour members for raising questions about child safeguarding issues after one of their Labour right darlings down there was arrested for paedophilia. Sometimes allegations are serious and harrowing, other times they're trivial and unimportant, apparently depending entirely on whether or not the perpetrator is part of Jess Phillips' Labour right faction. It's no surprise that the entitled Westminster political class are a rotten bunch of hypocrites when it comes to allegations of sexual abuse, but it's just as bad when you look elsewhere. The Metropolitan Police tried to get in on the scandal by asking victims to come forward and make statements, but this is the same force that brutally smashed a women's protest after one of their officers (nicknamed "the rapist" by his colleagues) kidnapped, raped, and killed a woman. There are currently 143 Met Police officers under investigation for domestic abuse, of these 121 are still working as cops! 1,600 allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence over the last ten years; strip-searching of teenage girls; sharing of misogynistic abuse and pictures of female murder victims in vile WhatsApp chats; serial rapists in the Metropolitan Police ranks; and absolutely pathetic rates of rape conviction ... Is it any wonder that women don't have faith in police services like the Met when it comes to rape and sexual abuse? Then there's the UK media, with right-wing outlets like the Daily Mail, The S*n, The Times, and GB News leading the charge, all of which have employed Dan Wootton who stands accused of sickening sex crimes, catfishing, and blackmail. Their outrage would be a touch more believable if they were equally furious, rather than completely silent, when one of their own is accused of being a sex abusing monster wouldn't it? And then there's the Guardian, which has run numerous outraged articles about Russell Brand, whilst conveniently forgetting to mention the 137 columns and blog posts they paid him to write between 2006 and 2015. It's also interesting how they've completely failed to draw the obvious parallels between Brand's alleged behaviour and that of Nick Cohen who was nicknamed "the octopus" in the Guardian offices for the frequency of his groping. It's funny how Brand gets both barrels from the Guardian, but their mate Nick Cohen gets the benefit of the doubt when he claims that he was too drunk to remember whether he's sexually assaulted numerous junior female colleagues or not! It's only thanks to the brave persistence of Lucy Siegle that Cohen was ever dropped by the Guardian, after literally decades of senior execs turning blind eyes to all the women who spoke out about the horrific behaviour of one of their star columnists. The allegations against Brand are extremely serious, and his efforts to get in front of the scandal by conspiracising that they're politically motivated hardly do him any favours, but it's telling that the organisations that are making the most outraged noises about Russell Brand have all got lamentable track records when it comes to dealing with sexual misconduct in their own ranks. Whether or not Brand is guilty of what he's accused of, it's impossible to ignore the stench of hypocrisy from the Westminster establishment cabal, the Metropolitan Police, and Britain's rancid media outlets. Note one woman who the daily mail wrote in terms of Brand came out and accused the newspaper of writing rubbish!
I would suggest that the problem the "zoomer" generation or under 30's have is the pornification of culture. Porn has really severely messed with their minds because it's easily accessible for even quite young kids. All they have to do is type "pornhub" and there's oodles of hardcore porn for them to look at, and they think this is their starting point for sexual interaction! It's a massive problem but few are talking about it and far fewer have the nerve to even just _speak_ about trying to realistically control it.
Well Brexit was the most idiotic thing that has happened in the UK sense King George III refused to give the colonies any representation in the parliament. And TBH Brexit is slightly more idiotic than that.
This time Nish has really the lost the plot and needs to be called out. Beck's "Odelay" is hands down Beck's album. "Devil's Haircut", "Where It's At", I think "New Pollution" is on that one too. No, I never dated Coco; and I've never bought anyone a Beck album as a gift. But I do have two turntables and a microphone.
I thought I needed a break from the nonstop onslaught of politics and BS problems here in the US. I’m both comforted and distressed that this was more of the same but with a British accent. However, I appreciate a respite from 24/7 Trump news so thank you for that bit of sanctuary. I’ve always felt that Russell Brand was creepy. I appreciate Coco’s comments and I hope that justice is served in this case. So, much love from across the pond. Keep up the great work.
Y'all are BOTH fantastically, wonderfully attractive -- no matter which corner of the banquette you sit in! And we want a recipe for the soup -- rassam?
23:23 The Brand story pisses me off. That we still have a permissive support system for behavior like his is infuriating. That we’ve had a resurgence of acceptance for misogynistic culture is mind boggling. With guys like Brand, Cosby, Weinstein, and countless others the common thread is always money and power. The support system is composed of people inside of Brand’s celebrity micro economy who themselves earn a living as long as the Brands of the world are earning. It is not in their financial best interest to go rogue and become whistleblowers. So until the insiders are financially rewarded for doing the right thing, that won’t change. This money/power support system happens with celebs. It happens in politics (Trump grabbing crotches, etc etc). It happens in corporations where the top salesman earns so much revenue (and bonuses for his chain of bosses) that he gets away with shitty behavior of all kinds. It happens with regular Joes who are the breadwinners of the family. I’m glad Me Too has brought awareness and action to this issue but, man, we have a long way to go.
Not defending Brand's behaviour but the really hard question is why the deafening silence from legacy media over the Wootton catfishing allegations? Why are they picking and choosing? And why the hell did the Met not investigate the prince Andrew allegations? No righteous indignation from alternative media over those points.
I find it mad the standards that apply in some circles, but not in others. Take wrestling. Hear me out. Marty Scurll - One of the biggest indie stars, on the cusp of signing for one of the biggest promotions and making his national television debut, he slept with an intoxicated 16 year old fan. What happened? Immediately blacklisted from all promotions globally. Only a few tiny, desperate companies have booked him for a one-off appearances in places like Puerto Rico and Poland. His career is done. Likely permanently. But a major broadcasting personality or a politician, and the accountability and blowback is LESS?! Craziness.
He didn’t sleep with a 16 year old he RAPED a 16 year old. An intoxicated person legally (not just morally) is incapable of consent so by definition he RAPED her. He should be in prison serving a lengthy sentence for his crime (and of course to, keep the public safe) where he wouldn’t be working at all … being black listed from a few gigs isn’t fitting punishment. If he’s a rapist he should be in jail, however if these opportunities have been taken away from him based on rumour and gossip that is entirely unfair! No one should be able to ruin a person career based on word AND no one who rapes should be free to walk the streets 😉
Absolutely this conversation has to go way beyond RB and seeing this as simply an issue for media and celebrity or a man who had access due to his fame etc. There are many many women who could report very similar incidences to those described in the documentary, sadly they are not that rare. Most women have some bad expereince around consent at least once in their life and often more. This has to be discussed more broadly and how we confront general misogyny widespread thorughout society, the stuff I have seen online has been disturbing but not surprising as I think in many ways it is just as bad as in the 90's 00's and its only becayse of such things as Metoo that more women feel emboldened to cme forward and even recognise what is sexual assault or #ape. We need to talk about consent consent consent and I think schools are letting down young people by not doing more about relationships, sex and consent and communication and self esteem and dealing with online influences etc.
But we also must talk about the millions of women swallowing daily anti-baby-pills which destroy their libido. This causes massive problems to men, who then end up searching left and right woman who are still horny. This pill wrecked havoc to women’s natural sexuality and it actually interferes with the process of the genders arranging with each other in a natural way.
I agree with Leroy on everything he says apart from his view that Beaverman doesn't realise the impact of her views. She realises and she knows. She says nothing by accident. She's racist. That's it.
> This has been openly discussed in the comedy circuit for the last five years > How was this allowed to go on for so long? Yeah that's a real mystery. Are you aware of any other rapists working in the industry right now?
Fabulous edition of the show - Leroy Logan made more sense of policing in London in this one interview than a million Cressida Dicks or Cruella Braverman's ever could. Do you think he could be convinced to return to Scotland Yard as the new boss?!
I know neither of you guys were genuinely fishing for compliments (or, maybe, just a tiny, tiny bit😁), but I find Coco, simultaneously stunningly beautiful and cute with her intellect and eloquence being at least a match to either of the aforementioned. And not to leave Nish out, I think he's one of the best people who make beards look great and not a nest of neckbeardiness energy, he has kind, thoughtful eyes and I know his background is humor and he brings that tool kit to these shows and that's been great; his recent take downs of Liz Thomas has been amazing. But, just as sharp as his wit has been, he, too, has the ability (like Coco) to then conduct a serious interview that's enlightening and informative (much like with former Superintendent Leroy Logan) while not necessarily squeezing the humor out entirely. So, thanks to both of you guys for these shows and, please, be kinder to yourselves, you're both beautiful people, without and within.
NISH draped me when I was 15, after one of his gigs I told him I was underage and he didn't listen....he used his power being in a position of power while on mock the week to silence me, I was unable to speak out as no one would believe me, i ask that anyone else that were also taken advantage of to come forward....... See how trial by media rather than going to police can be manipulative, especially those stats your female co-host doled out as fact..... Both of you show you are abit insular in your thonking as there are many 'conspiracies' that were proven to be fact the last few years.... This podcast is like woke politics where you have outsourced your critical thinking to corrupt politicians who have an agenda.
Can I please push back on this idea that we need to increase education on consent. I've worked in education for several years. We teach consent all the time. We've reached a point where children are anxious to hug each other because they're too worried about consent. Sexual abusers know perfectly well that they don't have consent. That's exactly what they want. To give the middle finger to your consent. Thats precisely why its abusive. They know full well that they shouldn't be doing it. Rape and sexual abuse are not conducted as a result of poor quality knowledge, poor quality understanding or forgetfulness about how consent laws work. Sexually abusive people absolutely know that their behaviour is wrong. That's precisely why it excites them. Rape is NOT the consequence of poor education.
Nish doesn't have a good or bad side! He has a look from every angle of asking for Mo Salah, and your mum telling you that you've got Mo Salah at home. Like if Mo Salah stop exercising like a thoroughbred racehorse and started telling excellent jokes. - Nish 2024: The Mo Salah your mum said you had at home.
Russell was an appalling human being, especially during the peak of his fame. He behaved badly, taking everything that was offered, including drugs and sex. That wasn't a secret. He's acknowledged his past and apologised for it. That doesn't make him a criminal. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that his behaviours were typical of many young men who lacked anchors and reached that level of fame. I'm not American and wasn't a fan in the early days but recently he seems to have evolved into a decent family man. I've read his autobiographies and find it impossible to believe that he'd bother with rape given the number of women who threw themselves at him. It's questionable that his accusers haven't gone to the police yet they've talked to the media, under anonimity. In my view, this is an attempt to silence him.
*seems It's incredible how much of a benefit of the doubt you're giving him compared to what you're giving the women. Your comment is full of assumptions! You don't know if he's changed. He could still be a danger to women. SAs and rape are violent and behind them is a craving to dominate and control so it makes NO DIFFERENCE if he had lots of other women. He would still feel the need to dominate more! You really need to hear testimonies from SA survivors. My goodness.
Finally a decent comment amongst these woke idiotic comments. Salute to you my friend, and they are 100% trying to silence him talking about big tech and big pharma.
@@MW92. You're very naive. Dozens of people were banned indefinitely from UA-cam during 2020 and 2021 because they spoke out about Big Pharma and questioned the C0vid narrative. Some of us have watched them on other video sharing platforms. Why has he never been banned? Why is he still on UA-cam???? Is he "controlled opposition"??
@MW92. there are numerous people talking about it now. Only fools are allowing themselves to be gaslighted by Russell. It's about the industry not having changed since Savile. More than 900 people in entertainment, including Dermot O’Leary, have signed an open letter calling for “an end to this culture that turns a blind eye to predators operating in plain sight”. Bigger than MR E is the online grooming and recruitment of kids. Trafficked kids is Bigger in non elite in fact. Big tech does need to be held accountable Big pharma is being spoken about and people are waking up They don't need brand.
Nish looks better when he is not rocking the hiker who was lost for 10 days in SoCal (remember at home during pandemic, making che guevera look like he is posing for GQ.)
As a woman from the U S, I really love the solution for your annoying ex- crazy prime minister. Once Trump is covicted, can we send him to the same island?!!😂❤️🐉💙💙🌈🌈
Go and film this in a Country without defamation laws. Call it "Holiday Gossip" and invite people to come over and spill the beans without consequences .
I also like vintage Beck, I had 3 albums of his that I listened to a ton, I'm pretty sure Odelay was the one I listened to the least, I don't think it's a consistent album like Vultures (where every track is incredible), or Gold for that matter (Nightmare Hippie Girl is such a jam). I think in this age and day there shouldn't be space for people who can't be around young women, yet we enable abusers instead of punishing them in a great many cases.
I am so glad to have come across this channel. I love your guest, he was so easy to listen to. I must think about something on my mind and whether I could get this channel's advice. (I noted the email address, thank you.) I don't know who to go to for help but what I have seen is haunting me. Thanks for popping up on my feed. 👍
Most of the compliments on appearances seem to be going to Nish. Let me just say that I would enjoy looking at Coco from any side. I am trying to say that without seeming like some perv you would walk away from at a bus stop.
COCO, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! However, the sexiest thing about you is you. Everything about you is amazing, and I am so glad that PSA has brought you and Nish into my life. I love the podcast and appreciate your commitment to helping us here in America understand that the world is much bigger than we're allowed to believe. Thank you, Coco, for being a Goddess! ( Nish, you are adorable, too.)
I cannot tell you how happy I am that this allegation has surfaced. For about a year now I've been hearing that Katherine Ryan and Sara Pascoe knew an open secret about a sexual assaulter in comedy but they couldn't say who because he would sue them. I am so relieved it's none of the comedians I enjoy! It's not a surprise it's Brand. He's told us as much in his act! But we have to figure out a way that wealthy assaulters cannot hide behind lawyers. There should be no "open secrets". Good guys like Nish shouldn't feel they can't name an abuser simply because he has the money to pay lawyers. I don't know what law we have to change to make that possible. No criminal should be able to evade justice just because they can pay lawyers. See: Trump not being in jail yet.
The culture of open secrets is deeply engrained in the entertainment industry. Everybody who knew Harvey Weinstein knew who he was, and Bill Cosby allegations had been swirling for years by the time an offhand comment in a stray cellphone video broke the dam. And that comment was just for the audience to Google, "Bill Cosby, sexual assault." A lot of this condoning "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" behavior isn't confined to the entertainment industry, but pervades the wider culture overall. People still rabidly defend Michael Jackson and tar any accusations as slanderous, and did the same for Jimmy Savile when his story broke. I highly recommend you go into the archives for the Wikipedia talk page for Jimmy Savile as an enlightening time capsule. You'll see people suggesting inclusion of allegations against him well before he died, and others completely dismissing the reporting from 2011 in exactly the same manner as you'd expect.
Ah, I think you need to relisten. If you think Russell Brand is 'it' and the only one, and none of your favourites are abusers, maybe think again. Ryan hasn't commented on Brand, and even if he was one that she mentioned, Nish (and the docu) clearly says there are others that are 'open secrets'...13:06...you seemed to have missed all that?
You're both loving people and beautiful people; this is no direct attack at either of you but if you say there are still people that you can't name because of lawsuit.. what the fuck. When did we buy into a world where you can't freely say.. oh hold up, so and so does this.. oh wait would that be this weird echo chamber of 'wokeism' we've found our self falling into like quick sand, the self eating serpent, can't name out of fear of being cancelled by the exact problem we're trying to cancel
The cold remedy that Nish mentions is possibly 'Chukku Kaapi' from Kerala. I cannot obviously give medical proof but it does seem to help me everytime I feel cold or cough creeping in.
I did do a double take with the switched seats! Looks as excellent as the other way - which I hasten to qualify was very excellent indeed. Russell Brand always gave me creep vibes, and I’ve got a darn good creepmeter. Though I’m always sorry to have that validated. Good to see that there’s been at least some consequences for him. I think every industry has a culture of women quietly warning each other about the problematic people in their workplace, simply because there’s such a tradition of not outing these people publicly. When victims (regardless of age or gender) speak up it often costs their jobs, destroys their careers, and makes them a target for the blind supporters of the abuser. It’s awful to hear how bad the UK police is. Perhaps not as bad as the US, but that’s hardly a compliment. Actually addressing and overturning institutionalised bad behaviour is massively difficult but so vital. I’d love to see mental health intervention in particular taken away from law enforcement. Just recently a lady died (Australia) during a welfare check. And our police really aren’t that bad, comparatively.
@@leenieledejo6849 my experience is that I have seen very few female police women...and when I need them, they didn't exist. I was strangled in a supermarket and was questioned by 3 men asking me about my personal life which had nothing to do with it.

Among other important issues, Nish lays down facts: Midnite Vultures is the superior Beck album. Though I’d argue that, if we’re including soundtracks, his work on the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack is legendary; Sex Bo-bomb are fucking tight.
Sea Change has some good stuff on it. I just think Midnite Vultures hit that timelessness that is so rare at the turn of the century, and I still hear it used in stuff and think “Goddamn, that album’s still got it, huh?”

First I’m in the U.K. I am not right wing.
Absolutely, why do the left media (supported by Pharma) have this much power to silence their critics on vaccine?

In other words, if bad behaviour is left unchecked it DOES ruin the whole organisation!

Meanwhile, 11 of his 14 appearances on Mock the Week were on the right (the 'guest' team) and all were wins for that team. I neglected to check Never Mind the Buzzcocks, but I doubt the results would have changed the outcome.
More important than that are the QI and 8OOTCDC statistics. Do the numbers change when he's riding the blue whale or had a pint with a tiger?
@@mygenericusername that's a good point. Assuming QI lists their guests from left to right, he's won (or tied for first with Phil) more often on the right.

You both look lovely.
Too long fir reading on a cell phone. My eyes began to blur reading this oamphlet rather than commentt.
Death on The Nile was in 2022? What was Branagh thinking about? That cast had a number of problematic actors.

To me the obvious double standard is very telling

Thats a rape myth. Just like ugly women don't get raped.
This has been known forever since before he left msm
*seems
It's incredible how much of a benefit of the doubt you're giving him compared to what you're giving the women.
Big tech does need to be held accountable
Big pharma is being spoken about and people are waking up
They don't need brand.
Just leave Russell alone. Innocent until proven guilty.
You are a #Sicko. He's #Guilty - everyone KNOWS he's #Guilty.
What are your own responsibilities to 'systematic failings' Nish, given that you were aware 5 plus years ago? Save UK from the Pod!
'Everyone knew about Brand'
[What did they know specifically?]
'Well, I feel guilty for not saying anything'
wtf? you still didn't say what was known
No charges, no evidence, but still you say he's guilty? Not a Russel fan, but jebus people, get a grip!
Thank-you Pod Save Uk. Refreshing & honest commentary on the inequality of power in societies
The cold remedy that Nish mentions is possibly 'Chukku Kaapi' from Kerala. I cannot obviously give medical proof but it does seem to help me everytime I feel cold or cough creeping in.
There's no need for a degree in the UK to become a cop? You need a bachelor level degree in policing in Finland.
Coco is gorgeous. But the main reason I have a massive crush on her atm is her passing reference to 'Nuts and Gum' in the 2023 review show.
In most "developed" countries ONLY 10% of the police force are women...and I suspect most are made to make coffee. 😞
Erm, you may be right in the percentage but there are plenty of women in promoted posts in the police forces in the developed world.
@@leenieledejo6849 I haven't seen them...
@@leenieledejo6849 my experience is that I have seen very few female police women...and when I need them, they didn't exist. I was strangled in a supermarket and was questioned by 3 men asking me about my personal life which had nothing to do with it.
@@leenieledejo6849 no there isn't...that's the media that sell that idea...it's not true... propaganda
@@fay5479 Oh I definitely agree that the majority being men makes it VERY difficult for women, especially to come forward regarding SA but there are women officers.
Look at the two (the officer and the detective) at the press conferences in the Nicola Bulley case.
"Ethical leadership" in a police force.
Yeah. Alrighty then.
I blame porn for distorting young men’s idea of what sex should be
I think Brand's replaceable not only because there is other talent out there. But because there are legitimately nice and good people out there who deserve to have the opportunities instead of keeping predators and crooks in power.
What a clown comment. He’s the only one calling out big tech, big pharma control and the idiotic woke agenda
Bah you're both gorgeous, too pretty for radio
I think I love Former Met Superintendent, Leroy Logan. What a man. I love his heart and brain. I wish every cop was like him. 😎#PodSaveTheUk
3 people who wont een use there real names say he did somthing to them we hae noclue who these women are or weather they een really met him the police cleary are not othering to inestigate it so theres clearly no case agianst him
So you're saying that everything R Brand says is woo woo conspiracy theory? Don't think so myself.
Nish is a great comedian but he looks like he just got out of bed
How does a left wing podcast have a tax avoidance ad?
Seems like the UK is having an echo of what culturally has happened here in the United States. So was Russell Brand a sort of Bill Cosby in the UK comedy community. Where everyone knew about his bad behavior?
A female comedian was saying about this but could not name him.
Rumours from his time in usa too.
@@Threadbow well when he was doing movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall I did hear much on him being a rapist like Cosby. Cosby rumors existed for decades. Although he was open about have sex addiction and he was pretty open about it .
Seems so…..
There are allegations that there are a few u comedy industry
But 900 have signed to stop predators operating under protection in the industry in general.
3 so far this year, plus this one.
So we're having a metoo time like the states.
Is Nish not part of the same institutions who did nothing?
Nothing about Pakistani grooming gangs.😮
As a 7/10, I’m here to put Nish in his place.
political correctness is not funny
I have so much admiration for Nish taking a brave public stand for the superiority of Midnight Vultures.
Sea change, morning phase, mutations, mellow gold… think im a fan? We should all give beck for Christmas.
You didn't mention one foot in the grave or stereopathetic soulmanure.. like a real fan would :)
By the way nish odelay completely shits on midnight vultures.. MV was the start of the bad
@@Sidney-Holiday Go where you want to. Do the things you will. Walk around with a broken leg and a hundred dollar bill….
Among other important issues, Nish lays down facts: Midnite Vultures is the superior Beck album. Though I’d argue that, if we’re including soundtracks, his work on the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack is legendary; Sex Bo-bomb are fucking tight.
My favourite Beck album is Sea Change but I'd never claim it is his best as that is subjective.
Sea Change has some good stuff on it. I just think Midnite Vultures hit that timelessness that is so rare at the turn of the century, and I still hear it used in stuff and think “Goddamn, that album’s still got it, huh?”
you're gorgeous, darlings!
Wow, did Ramesh get his eye fixed?
I'm not Russell Brand fan, but Nish condemning a man based on hearsay is disgusting. We have due process. What if I said I heard some dodgy rumours about Nish. Is that OK?
