    Thanx for posting. Glad you separated climatization from battery preconditioning. App fan icon is for climate only. Still not clear: Should we precondition battery if not plugged in? For short drives? Should we always use car to navigate to fast chargers so it preconditions for charging? (Need a quick link here to initiate preconditioning).

      You can set a departure time and not plug in. It will warm the cabin but not the battery as it would drain too much charge out - defeating the purpose of it. Warming the battery for a short drive imho isn't worth it unless you live in extremely cold regions.(say 25/ -5C) and below. Then the reason I would do it is for driveability - seriously cold battery and your BMW will limit the acceleration as well as the regen. W/ Respect to navigate to charge - sadly that is a Tesla-specific thing currently - partly due to a great/dependable network and its inherent integration into the car. Maybe someday an update will come for BMWi cars but if so I bet a long way out. BMW has dramatically upgraded the myBMW app over the years tho, so there is hope! - Chuck (from the vid)

      @@chuckvossler9010 I suspect the car warms for too long this way. Simply start climate feature by pressing the fan app on the phone a few minutes b4 departure. It doesn't, but fan should cease when car is started & normal climate control kicks in.

      @@chuckvossler9010 with iDrive8 the car preheats the battery upon charging if you navigate to a DC-charger. You must use the built in nav, does not work with CarPay/Android Auto.

    Does 2023 X5 45e have a preconditioning cabin target temperature or does it just turn on climate control with same settings that were in effect when vehicle was parked?

  • @richardmaki4236

    What happens if you’re parked outside in the cold with no plug in available and you select pre-conditioning?

    • @chuckvossler9010
      @chuckvossler9010 2 роки тому +3

      It will turn on cabin heat only, not heat the battery pack.

    Thank you so much I will try that and see what kind of luck I have. Unfortunately I’m gonna be away from the car for the next four or five days, but just as soon as I get back to it, I will set just a departure time and see if that makes a difference.

    I just bought an I4 BMW idrive35. It says it can take 205 or 215 kw but the highest I have seen even when the battery is around 10% is 110kw. Is there something I can do do increase the kw. Our climate is most around 60 night and 75-80 F temp. Thanks

    We just purchased a 2020 REX where here in the Ca. desert. Do you know if the car will automatically cool the battery regardless of being parked or running in temps over 100F?
    Setting preconditioning prior to our scheduled off time from work makes sense, however often times we be by need make spontaneous trips without lead time.

      I have 2017 rex And do not worry. This car does have active Thermo management. It Will do all job for battery efficency. If you are going more then 50 km use preheat of cabin And battery.

    Will the battery heating work of I firstly plug in the car, and then program and choose a time in the app? Or do I really need to program first, and then plug in?

    • @chuckvossler9010

      Depends on how you have your car set to charge. If you have set it to charge immediately on plug in, it may start to warm or cool battery pack so it charges most effiecntly. Most commonly you will hear fans kick on - again most noticed during extremes of temps. If a preconditioning departure time is set, the battery will charge 95%+ then stop and top off near the time you have set for departure.

    How do you precondition your battery before you get to a fast charging station for better charging capacity?

    • @bmwblog

      You can pre-condition at Level 2 also

    • @pilotandthecity8527

      Not needed. The i3 is charging always at max capacity following the standard charging curve.

  • @johnc1486

    Regarding Charging. We are told by BMW tech that charging times to avoid higher electric rates will be ignored if the car does not get to 100% within the start and stop times we set. I.e. For instance we set the charge to begin at 9pm and stop charging at 9am... I would think logically the car will only charge during those parameters. In our case the car starts charging just a soon as it's plugged in and will continue to charge until it reaches 100% totally ignoring our pre-set limits. We are making sure to set departure times as well making sure the the " Charge in time slot" is selected.. Any suggestions ?

      Which BMW? Haven’t experienced that issue w/ our i3 and X3e. Also programming it via the app or the iDrive - Chuck from the vid

      We’re referring to a 2020 i3 Rex
      I called BMW again this morning and talked to two different different tech support people which don’t seem to have an answer as to why, after setting a start and stop time for charging, the car instantly starts charging when plugged in
      We try to do that not only to save a little money on charging time slots, but also to restrict by guessing the amount of power that goes into the battery to keep it in the 80% range
      Really frustrating whether something is wrong with the system or us be great to get some sort of a firm answer

      @@johnc1486. For the charge in time slot function to work properly you have to have a departure time set or it won’t work. Do you have a departure time set?

    • @johnc1486
      @johnc1486 Рік тому

      There’s two areas for setting a departure time that I’m noticing on the app
      One is for departure time for tomorrow morning, and the other is where you can set different departure times for future departure times in which case I set up a departure time for 9am to go to work And and 5 pm for heading home from work.
      Those are both toggled on as far as the one that you can set that disappears after that time is met.
      I have not done that function.
      I really appreciate your assistance. Thank you so much.

      I would only set a departure time for the morning. Use the iDive unit in the car to set it - it gives U more instructions than the app will especially for this. Also makes no sense to me why U have to set a departure time but i suspect it’s what’s messing yours up.

    Why would you set your departure time an 11/2 hour before departure time, & not just at the departure time you are leaving, as it stated in the car settings.💥💥

      Because it won't Preconditioning the battery, but only the cabin

  • @pilotandthecity8527
    @pilotandthecity8527 8 місяців тому

    I'm not 100% sure but I believe Preconditioning requires to program the departure time at least 3 hours prior to departure to be able to heat up the battery in time. Otherwise it won't heat up the battery at all. But again, I can't find this øn paper somewhere..

    What a terrible idea that you can’t set the temperature you like. Mercedes have been able to do that remotely for years. A really poor system if you have to go with whatever BMW think is the right temperature!

    • @Maurice_Moss
      @Maurice_Moss 6 місяців тому

      That's not how it works, it will pre heat or cool the car to whatever the climate control was set to previously.
