Another fantastic, awesome list Larry!! I think you nailed every good album of this year!!!!! Sparks, BOC, Man, The Guess Who, BTO, Foghat, Bad Company and others shows you are a rock expert!! I would add Gryphon, I'd like to see 1971 and 1972, great years for rock and roll. See you, I expect to see more videos from you!!!
Larry buddy I love my 70 rock my favourite music of all time is southern rock cheers Larry graves buddy from sarsfeild Ontario rual Ottawa Ontario Canada
Thanks for doing this, Larry. I'm a child of the 80s (well, also of the 70s but too young to appreciate music) and love classic rock/progressive rock from the 70s. We all have our favorites, but good to see a lot of albums I have make the list. Love the S tier choices 😊
Hi larry enjoyed your ranking its fun some of my favorite albums from 1974 are : Deep Purple Burn, Queen 2 and sheer heart attack, Kiss dubute album and hotter than hell, Genesis the lamb, yes relayer, blue oyster cult secret treties, the who odds and sods, supertramp crime of the century, the rolling stones its only rock 'n roll, ELO el dorado, king crimson red 👍✌️
Agree with walls and bridges. I listened to it a few weeks ago since I heard you talk so highly of it, and you're right, it's easily A-tier. So underrated... I seen a review of it on wikipedia gave it 2/5 stars... which is crazy
hey I saw you by coincidence listening to Adriano Celentano on spotify. Idk how you found him but thats the music I always heard through my dad and he also has a LP of him, thats the first music I enjoyed. Later I found the Beatles by myself. Anyway, he brought rock n roll to Italy in the late 50s, also covered Stand By Me in italian, his really good music started in the mid to late 60s. He also did a lot of collabs and went into disco later on and had a very good album in 1999 still! He is still living and is probably one of the coolest and funniest dudes out there, a lot of movies where he is acting in prove that. Three songs you should listen are: Il Ragazzo Della Via Gluck (1966): this is a beautiful and emotional ballad about a small village that completely changed when he came back, a early song about the environment and nature. Azzuro (1968): this was his big hit, played all around Europe, especially here in Austria its still knows as we love Italy. Prisencolinensinainciusol (1973): this crazy song title is from a super interesting song, he tried to make a song that sounds english without using real words. And it slaps!
Good ranking! Can't argue with too much =) Thin Lizzys Nightlife isn't an album I thought highly of at first. Some songs seem a bit half-baked, it doesn't really rock that hard and no real hit on it. However with time I've really learned to like it. Earlier I would rank it C as well.. Now I would give it a high B!
Good picks...Queen...II....Court & Spark My picks/I'm not going to pick albums that everybody else has picked.so these are the albums I choose other than the ones I said I wasn't going to pick because Everybody else already picked them..And no ranking Richard& Linda Thompson/I want to see the Bright lights tonight Michael Oldfield/Her best Ridge Weather Report/Mysterious traveler Steel eye Span/Now we are six
My favorite from 1974 is Veedon Fleece by Van Morrison with Jackson Browne's Late For The Sky coming in second. Of the ones you ranked, I think Randy Newman might be my favorite.
How do you do this? Is the Tier site free to use? And an archive to pick LPs from. I enjoyed your ranking and that you have your own choices and taste not so much influenced by critics and others.
Saw the Relayer Tour and if you had it would be S tier #1, I also saw The War-child Tour by Jethro Tull, seeing these bands pull off there music live and it sounds like the LP and better makes a Big Difference.
Lists are key, lists are good!🦉 But... I cant think of one! Saint Alfonso's Parish is particularly good.( Zappa hated Bowie- cuz he kidnapped A Belew away ...).this ws back when the industry was still vital.
I don’t think I can choose an S tier album from that lot, although Hotter Than Hell, Kiss and Queen II would be very close. I love Goodnight Vienna - A tier. I love Bowie but Diamond Dogs would be a B - my least favourite of his 70s releases. Some other great albums from that year for me are - Hard Road - Stevie Wright Natty Dread - Bob Marley Living in the 70s - Skyhooks Grievous Angel - Gram Parsons Zinc Alloy…. - T Rex There’s the Rub - Wishbone Ash Quatro - Suzi Quatro Rocka Rolla - Judas Priest I Can’t Stand the Rain - Ann Peebles Tina Turns the Country On - Tina Turner
Funny to think about now, but if my uncle would have brought over almost anything else besides KISS' debut album, anyone one of these could have been my first favorite band! Like if he had brought Kimono or RUSH or even the King Crimson, my taste in music would have been so different today.
I’m a sucker for ranking shows. I’m enjoying yours. I need to give Sparks more of a listen. I’ve only heard Kimono my House and a few radio hits, although I did see them in concert in 1976 as the opening act for Patti Smith. It was an interesting concert:). The Uriah Heep Wonderworld album I would have put as a D. I loved the band but that was a terrible album. Keep it up with your rankings.
I was about to ask what the heck does it take to get a "D"? Smiler is a worthy recipient. Personally I would have relegated Thunderbox and the latter Grand Funk albums too.
Rolling Stones did a "best albums from 1974" list and Neil Young's largely hitless album was ranked the best. On the Beach. Curioius what tier would you would have put it at.
Walls and Bridges,Diamond Dogs,Bad Co and Dark Horse are the only albums on this list that I bought Larry, all were great albums except Dark Horse, sorry George. Bob
Hi Larry I was never a fan of Kiss I think it was the costumes but for some reason I have changed my mind to me Hotter than Hell is under rated not sure why you think its not great. Its only Rock n roll also under rated. Anything by Queen "D" all day long in my book. to each their own.
No real gripes with your list or rankings. I would've put Hotter Than Hell in C because there are good songs on it, but the production and the songs that aren't quite at that level drag it back down. The best barometer by which to judge KISS is the first live album. It and Destroyer are probably their only true S-tier albums. I can't judge Dark Horse because the only song I've ever heard from it is the title track.

More like this please!! Thanks! 😎
Awesome Larry!, plenty of high quality albums!. I think 1973 would be a good year to do next 👍xxx.
Great idea for a series. I vote 1970 next
Great 1974 list! Please consider doing 1971-1973. There were also some amazing albums during this period!
Great list! 1967!
1968? Loved this!😊
Larry , Sparks No 1 and No 2 is what i would have had as the best 2 albums of 1974. I would include Slade In Flame in my favourite albums of 1974.
My favorite from that year is The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis, strong S.
Looking forward to when you do 1973, which in my opinion, was the best year of the 70s for great albums.
On The Beach ⛱️ by Neil Young & The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis are my favourite albums from 1974.
I have that Man album! Found it on market stall over here in the UK early 80s
Agree with walls and bridges. I listened to it a few weeks ago since I heard you talk so highly of it, and you're right, it's easily A-tier. So underrated... I seen a review of it on wikipedia gave it 2/5 stars... which is crazy

My vote is for 1968 or 1977 next. Btw, another great album from 1974 is They Say I’m Different by Betty Davis. I highly recommend it.
Good ranking! Can't argue with too much =)

Rod Stewart's "Smiler" in D... you have chosen wisely! 😂👌
Red is my #1 for 74 :)
Good picks...Queen...II....Court & Spark
My picks/I'm not going to pick albums that everybody else has picked.so these are the albums I choose other than the ones I said I wasn't going to pick because
Everybody else already picked them..And no ranking
Richard& Linda Thompson/I want to see the Bright lights tonight
Michael Oldfield/Her best Ridge
Weather Report/Mysterious traveler
Steel eye Span/Now we are six
Larry...the Captain released 2 albums in 1974...and one of them is pretty good...
Where would you put either of the two Eno albums? Here Come the Warm Jets would be S for me, Taking Tiger Mountain ( By Strategy) would be A
Never heard them, unfortunately.
Great list. But no Rocka Rolla or Fly to the Rainbow? These are one of my favorites.
Random albums as I say in the video. I'm not a fan of those albums anyway.
My favorite from 1974 is Veedon Fleece by Van Morrison with Jackson Browne's Late For The Sky coming in second. Of the ones you ranked, I think Randy Newman might be my favorite.
All excellent choices. I'm reading the recent biography of Randy Newman. It reminded me of what an outstanding songwriter he is.
Please do 1985 next.
How do you do this? Is the Tier site free to use? And an archive to pick LPs from. I enjoyed your ranking and that you have your own choices and taste not so much influenced by critics and others.
I might make a tutorial on how I record my tier lists. I use Tier List Maker online and record it with OBS Studio. Thanks!
Nothing too strong this year, but I do like Caribou a lot. Early KISS are very cool!
You did fine. The placement of the Lamb hurt a bit, but Relayer made up for it.
My favorite albums is queen ii the lamb lies down on Broadway ❤😊
Saw the Relayer Tour and if you had it would be S tier #1, I also saw The War-child Tour by Jethro Tull, seeing these bands pull off there music live and it sounds like the LP and better makes a Big Difference.

Great list! I think The Lamb is an S, and War Child is A.

Hard Road - Stevie Wright
Natty Dread - Bob Marley
Living in the 70s - Skyhooks
Grievous Angel - Gram Parsons
Zinc Alloy…. - T Rex
There’s the Rub - Wishbone Ash
Quatro - Suzi Quatro
Rocka Rolla - Judas Priest
I Can’t Stand the Rain - Ann Peebles
Tina Turns the Country On - Tina Turner

Secret Treaties #1 in my book

My favourite album from 1974 is Gene Clark’s No Other!
That is such a great album!
I was about to ask what the heck does it take to get a "D"? Smiler is a worthy recipient. Personally I would have relegated Thunderbox and the latter Grand Funk albums too.
Nice S list, but a B for The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway? Sacrilege. 😄
Rolling Stones did a "best albums from 1974" list and Neil Young's largely hitless album was ranked the best. On the Beach. Curioius what tier would you would have put it at.
A for me.
Walls and Bridges,Diamond Dogs,Bad Co and Dark Horse are the only albums on this list that I bought Larry, all were great albums except Dark Horse, sorry George. Bob
i agree with pretty much all except grand funk all the girls. i would have put in Z.
That's one of Thin Lizzy's weakest albums, but I highly recommend most of what they made after it :)
Larry, Bring back LeRoy, bring back LeRoy, bring back LeRoy Brown.
Hi Larry I was never a fan of Kiss I think it was the costumes but for some reason I have changed my mind to me Hotter than Hell is under rated not sure why you think its not great. Its only Rock n roll also under rated. Anything by Queen "D" all day long in my book. to each their own.
Like you say, to each their own as we all have our own opinions on music. Thanks.
1968 or 1970.

Burn below Sparks! sorry mate that is a mistake!
I am allowed to like certain albums more than you do, thanks.
You never listen to Thin Lizzy You are ignorant about their music.
YOU are ignorant. Do you listen to every band I love??
22 albums ahead of Joni Mitchell? Dude, they’re going to revoke your citizenship.
Everyone has an opinion on what they like, and no one is wrong. Thanks.
