thanks for your comments. its just a brief visual demo (no language barriers!) and feel free to mute the audio- there's a button that does that. ;-) Seriously though, you can check out yamaha's site for full details if you want to know more. Just for you, here's a revised version WITH commentary: ua-cam.com/video/uWP1iIcKZRI/v-deo.html
A midi in socket is usually an opto-isolated connection (effectively a small LED device) driven by the output of the other midi device. The midi-out (and thru?) therefore is the only terminal that provides the small amount of current that drives midi-inputs and the md-bt device.
most midi out-ports deliver enough current to power this device, so as long as you've connected it to the OUT port of your interface/hardware (the in on the yamaha bluetooth adapter) it should work. Some systems can handle midi-over-bluetooth but ive only used it with an ipad. Cant confirm any other bluetooth enabled devices though i read somewhere that recent mac OS have this facility.
i have successfully used this plugged into a midi OUT only. (that's the port that powers the device) It wont work just being connected midi IN on its own.
Hmmm, i'm not sure.... As far as i know, this unit needs a receiving device that can handle the Bluetooth LE protocol, such as PCs, mac, ios devices, etc. There may be a way but if i was looking for a similar solution i would search for alternative wireless-midi devices (that do exist out there) Bare in mind if you have to power your midi-controller using a cable (mains or power supply) there will be little point in having your midi wireless, though I know there are some battery powered midi controllers out there.
Yes, anything with a midi out connection will make this product work. Its more dependent on having the right "other" device that it communicates with ie, the other device being a bluetooth LE device (PC, mac, ios, etc)
I got the MD-BT01 working with ipad garage band BUT i had to do the same procedure as i done in the video. Initially, there was no connectivity with garage band and no visible options to select an external interface. I had to open a third-party app (there's some free ones out there) that recognises the MD-BT01 and then the MD-BT01 appears in the ipad's bluetooth device list (it doesnt just "appear" unless some app "calls" for it, as in the video) Then when i returned to garage band it worked as a midi interface. However i still couldn't find any settings in garage band to select the midi interface, it just worked. A great free app that plays nicely with the MD-BT01 device is yamaha's "synth & Dr pad" A great little sound canvas style app that will show you options for midi interfaces, including the MD-BT01. hope that helps
Given the choice I would always choose cables over wireless but when the ipad interface/connector is consumed with another device that prevents hard-wired midi this Bluetooth is the next best option.
theres many audio/midi interfaces out there for ipad. I can't recommend any particular one. My personal setup meant my lighting connector was consumed with a video device so I had to find another method of controlling midi, hence the MB.
i couldnt comment on that. im by no means endorsing any product or manufacturer nor commenting on the moral and marketing methods of any company here. this item, so i understand is designed to work with the bluetooth LE (low energy?) protocol. what other products support that, i dont know, but a web search may shed some light on the matter.
Some explanation instead of the dreadful music would improve this 100%

I've been dreaming of this exact product! Cannot wait to get my hands on one. Have you tried it with a Strymon pedal, and their librarian app?
+Zachary Drummond only tried it as demo'd. Plenty of potential though!
Does your IPad have to be connected to a wifi signal for this to work? Or does the Bluetooth connection work without it?
This is gorgeous
Nice video. Thanks! My light controller only has MIDI in. Will it not work for me with no MIDI out to power it?

You need to connect Out and In to work? And It works in Mac? Regards!

My MIDI controller only has a MIDI OUTPUT. Will the Yamaha adapter work with this or does it need to be plugged in both IN and OUT to work?

Thanks for your response.
Hi, Can i pair two of these devices and use a foot midi controller and Kemper wirelessly?
Hmmm, i'm not sure....

Hi there, can I use this device with other product brand beside Yamaha Keyboards?
Yes, anything with a midi out connection will make this product work. Its more dependent on having the right "other" device that it communicates with ie, the other device being a bluetooth LE device (PC, mac, ios, etc)
Can I use this adapter to hear me playing with my BT earphones?
no. this is for midi. in case you are not familiar, midi is simple-data and not digital or analogue audio
Can we use Apple Garage Band when connected to the iPad 2 using this product (MD-BT01)? Thanks.

SLATEB0Y sounds like MD-BT01 is much better than a wired connection. Thanks, this really helps.

SLATEB0Y makes sense. Are you able to suggest an alternative wired cable to connect with USB ports pls? Thanks

my piano ydp 143.... is it any midi port???? can you help
its the midi OUT port that powers the device
So this device only works with Apple(tm)(€)($) iOS products?

MuteTube strikes again!

Video without any narration.
