Killer vid! I just got this bad boy from Sweetwater & will be hooking it up tomorrow. Looks I got the right one! I’m gonna be using it just for tracking so I don’t have to run a cable. I might even check out some stuff on my iPad since it connects that way as well.
Really neat, thanks for the video Scott! Personally, I have no idea why anyone, let alone Yamaha, would build a device that transmits such a small amount of data (MIDI protocol) and then doesn't even allow it to be bus-powered. Not only does it severely degrade its live applications, but doesn't even reduce your cable clutter in the studio at all, given that wired MIDI cables don't require power. Or maybe they would insist you run it from a RipCord adapter with a power brick?
Thanks Drew! And I’m assuming you are not talking about the main one the video is on (the MD BT01), but the other usb one. The 5pin midi one gets power from your device, but the usb one does not. Yeah it’s a little odd that everything is usb bus powered but that little guy couldn’t be. And I really did consider doing that setup with the MyVolts Ripcord haha. But for now, this thing works great.
Definitely trying this, this week, except I've got a Roland wm-1 on the way and using a SY-1000 > GX-100 >VE-500. What I'm curious if you've had any experience, you said the helix has the foot switch emulation, I don't have that in my manuals of my devices so will probably have to look into specific cc# to run parallel to my foot switches so LEDs light up etc 🤣 I'm using stagetraxx , also has insane midi, lyrics scrolling, etc. I do solo gigs and build my own band in studio for my tracks. Wm-1 is battery powered... Would be nice if it doubles as midi powered but not sure yet. Anyways grabbed the app recommendation, thanks for that and great content dude 👍👍
I'm running an SNES emulator version of The Miracle Piano Teaching System on my iPad Pro and can't connect to the keyboard while in the emulator. Can you make a video of that?
As my keyboard already has built-in bluetooth MIDI output can I use this adapter to plug into a MIDI tone generator with MIDI in and out sockets to receive the MIDI signals from the keyboard? Many Thanks.
I haven’t used something like that so I don’t know. But it replaces midi cables. I actually prefer this one now: ua-cam.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/v-deo.html
I bought the md bt 01 to connect a kawai es8 to ipad pro 2020. The latency is noticeable in garage band, korg module, ravenscroft. I routed the audio out via a dragonfly cobalt into sennheiser hd 660s. I returned it. The question is if i hook it up via usb will the latency improve or i have to get an audio interface with direct monitoring?
I haven’t had that problem with these, but you can also try this one to see if it fixes the problem: ua-cam.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/v-deo.html As for latency, going USB might fix it. The only way to find out is to try it 👍
Does it work with ALL midi instruments? Power supply was not part of the original midi specs and I have heard that not all instruments will supply it and that some do so over different pins. Midi data only uses 2 of the five pins leave a choice of possible pins.
Hey Scott I use the Yamaha MD BT01 on my Voice LIve 3, HX Stomp, XR12, XR 18, Kemper Floor and more....do you know if there is a wireless Foot controller that can send wireless bluetooth to the Yamaha BT01? Thanks.
Not that I know of. But do check out the widi master. It’s more reliable than this Yamaha device: ua-cam.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/v-deo.htmlsi=PuShQ-zrkHco1_D-
Hi Scott. I tried the Yamaha UD-BT01 on my HX Stomp. This would be the ideal solution as I need to keep my DIN ports available for daisy chaining. For whatever reason, it won't communicate with HX's USB port. Midi commands are just ignored, though the Yamaha LED flashes whenever instructions are send. Attached to an Eventide H9 or BlueSky I have no issues. Any Idea why these two won't cooperate? ps. I managed to establish communication by inserting a USB-midi interface cable between the Yamaha and the HX. But this shouldn't be necessary, I suppose?
I was not able to get the USB port to work with the Yamaha UD Bluetooth either. I believe it has something to do with it being USB midi as well as usb audio. If you need to daisy chain, you can daisy chain multiple wireless midi together with the WIDI master: ua-cam.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/v-deo.html
I’ve personally never used it that way, however I believe the red light comes on when the OUT is plugged in so it should work. A new piece of technology called the “WIDI Master” by CME that might actually work better for what you need, and it’s a similar price to this.
It will work with MIDI Out only as long as it delivers the power on that port. You can even detach the main and sub connector. This is they way Electronic Wind Instruments and Keytars utilize WIDI Master. For MIDI IN and unpowered MIDI OUT, we are working on www.cme-pro.com/widi-jack
Thanks for the vid. Anyone tried this on Nord Stage 3? I have a similar device (cheap one) but not getting powered by the keyboard. It seems like not all keyboard can supply power to its midi port.
Since making this video, I’ve decided that I like this one more: ua-cam.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/v-deo.html it seems to work much better than the Yamaha one. Especially since my show about 2 weeks ago, the Yamaha crapped out at the most important time during the show haha that sealed the deal for me
Hi Scott. Can Yamaha MDBT 01 midi bluetooth device connect in to the akai mpc x bluetooth. I want to sync keyboard sequence to akai mpcx sequence. It's possible or not possible. If it's not possible Please tell any other bluetooth midi device can connect in to the Akai mpcx bluetooth to sync keyboard sequence.
great pity that you did not check Windows for this product as this video applies only to Apple and the link has nothing to do with Yamaha which is not a normal bluetooth device
Watch the video I link to in the description again. It shows how to connect a Windows computer to a bluetooth device. This yamaha bt01 is a bluetooth device. The video does this demo with a bluetooth headphone, but it's still the same concept.
@@ScottUhlMusic Hi I am pleased that you do answer but unfortunately the answer is wrong. Yamaha use bluetooth in a strange way and you actually need Midiberry from the Windows store plus LoopMidi www.microsoft.com/en-au/p/midiberry-io-for-md-bt01/9n6tkxwkdgll?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
@@petermcmurray2807 Interesting. Good to know. Sorry, I do not have a windows device so I couldn't test it. I assumed it would work if you could connect it via bluetooth. Since uploading this video, I now recommend the WIDI Master over this Yamaha one. Yamaha still works most of the time, but I’ve had it drop out on me twice live, so I definitely prefer the WIDI Master instead. Here’s a link to the video I did on it: ua-cam.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/v-deo.html
Did you check our WIDI Master which can do instrument to instrument Bluetooth MIDI connection with 3ms latency performance: www.cme-pro.com/widi-master/
Just ordered 2 to check them out. Can’t wait to try them, and I’ll post a video about it once I get them. I’ll post a comment here once it’s gone live 🤘

I own a Variax and I do not think this will work. The variax has almost an Ethernet cable you need in order for the midi to work

Is this on 2.4 GHz? If so; could it be unreliable?
Thanks
I highly prefer WIDI now over this one
Is the WIDI a better value, more reliable, or just what makes it better?
Thanks
More reliable for sure
Can i connect my airpods using this?
No, because midi doesn’t transmit audio, it sends midi information
What about windows 10?! Like 99% of PC users
I’m a Mac guy so I honestly do not know 🤷 sorry
