The rear seat, however, has good head support but is severely lacking in legroom. Also, the rear side window's shapes gives the rear seat area a somewhat claustrophobic feeling.
These cars are legendary. Here in Mn you still see tons driving around rust free. Half the kids in high school buy these with at least 170K for their first car, drive the shit out of them till graduation then sell to the next 16 year old. Great cars.
I loved my 2000 GTP coupe. Bought it in 2011 as a junior in high school for $6000 with 64k miles on it and just got rid of it in September of 2018 with 178k on the clock. I commuted to college in it every day for 5 years. I put several performance upgrades in it (downpipe, tune, intake, smaller sc pulley, etc) which really woke up the already potent drive train. I also learned how to work on cars with it, I disassembled the interior multiple times, did a lot of stuff in the engine bay, and even did some of my own body work. Unfortunately, living in Massachusetts, the snow and salt from the winter eventually killed the undercarriage, despite my best efforts to wash it off weekly. It was still running and shifting well but the rocker panels, rear strut towers, gas tank, spare tire well, etc. were toast. Such a good looking, reliable, fun to drive, easy to work on, comfortable, and decent on gas car... I don't think I'll ever like a vehicle as much as my Grand Prix.
My 06’ base now has 395,000 miles and it’s just now giving me problems, major problems with the engine but I bought the car from a couple in my old neighborhood 3 years after it was made, so I would say it served it’s purpose. You have a good car as long as you keep up with it and maintain it as with any car.

If I knew how to rebuild engines I would but as much as I loved my pontiac grand prix 2006 model, after about 140 K miles that's when the car had problems after problems including cheap plastic parts GM used and my mechanics had to replace with metal parts to stop different leaks and problems, steering wheel leak that we never could find, massive oil leak that costed me over a grand to fix, radiator over heating problems, air conditioning going out, heat going out, battery/alternator issues, cam position sensors and the list goes on. This car gave me nothing but problems until it's final demise when someone rear ended me and my car was totaled. I adored this car until the problems kicked in. If I knew how to rebuild, I would have because the money I shelled out was absolutely not worth it. Crazy to see that others had better luck than me.
The l67 (supercharged version of the 3800) is a great engine. Very reliable, makes good power, great aftermarket support, and is easy to work on. Nearly 15 years since a 3800 Grand prix has been produced these cars are still on the roads as daily drivers. Just proves how reliable they really were. With a bit of modification making 300+ whp is very easy with these cars. That extra power will really push you down the road. You aren't going to win any races compared to modern day cars, but it's enough power to enjoy while getting reasonable fuel economy and keep you up to speed with modern cars in today's traffic.
I just installed new wipers and headlights on my 06 GT. Bought it in 09. The car has been great. Still runs strong. Still looks good. Still enjoy driving it.
Bought my 06 gp for $1800 from some guy who ran it hard everyday, I just replaced and did almost a full gasket rebuild on the engine and im only 17. It runs like a beauty even when having 230,000 miles on it. My brother used to have and old gtp that I fell in love with which got me into grand prix’s
Best car I ever have ever had since new. (2005 Grand Prix GT) Without question the most reliable GM. I can afford most anything now, but I still enjoy my GT too much.
My awesome 2005 GP GT will roll over 200,000 miles this week and I love it. It drives almost 12:12 as well as it did when I first purchased it. It sits alongside a new Jaguar and Mercedes in my garage but my greatest satisfaction is driving this car. It gets between 26 and 29 mpg which depends on me. I can drive it 70 mph or 85 mph and it does not whine.
ive had an 05 gtp for 6 years currently at 130k miles and i have mixed feelings about it...coolant elbows went and it puked all its coolant out and started overheating in traffic, the dash is all cracked, the trans shifts strangely sometimes....but that 3800 series 3 is a gem and the car is a nice balance of power, reliability and practicality...given how hard ive been on her shes held up pretty well but i know that trans is gonna shit the bed here soon
The supercharged 3800 in this final generation Grand Prix does not produce "almost 300 hp", but a respectable 260. The GXP 5,3 V8 powered model makes 303 hp.
Put a shift kit on it, add an aluminum trans pan and do basics maintenance and this car is a beast. I used to have a 06 Base version that was almost fully loaded just missing the sure roof but had all other stuff. Now i currently own a 04 impala SS has the L67 and recently she’s been having minor repairs but when it works SHE FLYs I love her and will never sell her !!

I wouldn't get a gxp if I were u. Get a supercharged gt. The gxps have the same tranny as the supercharged gt but the tranny can't handle the extra torque of the v8. If u r lucky, u can find a GT that has all the options as the gxp. I had to get an spo front lip on mine cuz I couldn't really stand how the regular front end looks. Good luck with whatever you get.
The superchargers weren't all that reliable either. Would make that annoying sound when the bearing would wear out and expensive to fix. The gxp would have been a nice affordable sports car with a standard manual transmission or rear wheel automatic.
Corvairs did not have a transverse leaf spring rear suspension. It was always coils. In 1964 only, a camber compensator was used, which resembled a leaf spring and connected to both sides; its purpose to make the swing axle suspension behave a little better. But the load was carried by coils.
I daily drive a 2007 GP/GT and it looks identical to the car in this review. Felt kinda weird seeing my car on TV lol. For anyone wondering the paint color is called antique bronze metallic
I was thinking of getting one after I get my license. My grandma had this car in an orange color, although I won't be going with such an outlandish color. I'll probably go with something much more simple, like white, black, silver, graphite, or maybe even blue if I can find one.
I have an 07 Grand Prix GXP and love the car but the transmission was a nightmare. After having to get it fixed a couple times. Had a complete rebuild and the transmission hasn't had a problem since.
Toyota actually used the $1billion to create two similar but pretty different cars, the Lexus LS400 and the JDM only Toyota Celsior. The exterior and interior of both were pretty similar, and the drivetrain was the exact same, but there are many subtle differences between the two, apart from the fact that the Celsior was only available as RHD.

I got an 04 for my first car at 20 years old and I love it especially living in Ohio with the winter it’s always starts sucks that Ohio beats up cars so much
In my humble opinion, this car looks way better than the Camry or Accord and more fun to drive. With that engine is a no brainer. I put over 340k miles on a Saturn without a single issue, so, I don't have trusting issues with GM, at least not with this Pontiac.

My first one was great with very few problems but my second one is a different story. I just got it three months ago and its off the road more than its on the road. Only 142,000 miles replaced alternator, somebody tried to replace the rack and pinion but didn't finish the job so half of it was just sitting on the sway bar, needs new power steering hoses as both are leaking. Now a few of us think perhaps there might be a flat lobe on the cam as it pops and spits sometimes. Has anyone else heard about any problems like that in this phenomenal engine?
A lot of Audis in the early 2000s had peeling buttons, except all of their buttons would do that if used enough. I think Pontiac must've done a good job on this car's interior quality
The 04-08 grand prix was a great car even if GM paid that much for it. Only thing I can complain about is the GP GXP trans is weak. Literally nothing is wrong with the v6 3800s or the sc 3800s. They are bullets that will last forever as long as you change the oil lol. Not many GM cars nowadays you can say that for.. lol

@@alanrochin7919 3800s have iron heads, not aluminum. You must be thinking of the 60° V6s that GM also made at the time. 3800s are some of the most reliable and easy to work on engines on the road.
Correction: The engine is not a 3.8 but rather a 3800 -big difference. Question: Is the 3800 engine offered from 2004-2008 a series II or a series III?
Tell me about it. I just changed the spark plugs on my 2008. The rears are a bear, I dropped my socket and extension with a spark plug on it down in no man's land in the rear and had to buy a claw removal tool to finally retrieve it. They were original plugs and now I can see why they were never changed.
Change your auto trans fluid every 30-40K and it's rare u have problems........DON'T DO A FLUSH, just a drain and fill and clean or change the trans filter IF it has one, some trans don't. Most people have auto trans issues because they NEVER change their fluid.
I got a 04 with 114K, it was owned by a guy that drove the car 3k a year. It was bought and serviced at the same dealer for 16 years (all most anal). My goal now is to preserve it as much as possible as well as enjoy it. I want to be that 60 year old guy still driving his 76 Grand Prix that he got when he was 18. My 17 Mustang is my daily with 40k and its already wearing worst than your 06 in this video. Makes you say "HUH".

It's a 2006 GT; they changed the trim names oddly in the middle of this generation's run. Before the V8 GXP was introduced, the NA 3800 was called GT and the SC 3800 was called GTP. After the V8 came out it went base (no trim name), then GT for the SC 3800, then GXP. Odd move because the 3800 SC had always been called GTP even in the earlier generation but that's what they did.
I always thought these were nice, good looking cars until you stepped inside. That's a really ugly/cheap feeling dash IMO. Somehow Pontiac thought that by making their interiors busier it was a step up from the more plain Chevy interiors. Instead they were just uglier than a Chevy or Buick interior, not better.
Clearly you don't read with any more depth than you write. Might want to send Robert Monk a box of mini muffins for openly plagiarizing the GM-10 section of his paper "GM Corporate Governance Case Study." Of course, that document was proven wildly inaccurate by history. The GM-10 platform may not have met overly optimistic projections, and certainly was expensive to develop, but by any objective measure it was a huge success, and the cars more than met their design intentions.
There was NO GTP in 2006. The GT was supercharged and had all the bells and whistles the gtp always had. GM just dropped the Badging. I own a 2006 GT. Bought it in 09.
A decade after Pontiac was discontinued you still see A LOT of 3800 powered cars the road. Saturns, not so much.

Doorman makes replacement elbows. Instead of plastic, they use a metal material that is not corrosive.

Same here I have a 06 GXP. Trans has been holding on now for 160k after being rebuilt at 90k .
Good review and camera work but a shorter and less critical history about it would make it much better. Nice overall.

@@alanrochin7919 3800s have iron heads, not aluminum. You must be thinking of the 60° V6s that GM also made at the time. 3800s are some of the most reliable and easy to work on engines on the road.

Tell me about it. I just changed the spark plugs on my 2008. The rears are a bear, I dropped my socket and extension with a spark plug on it down in no man's land in the rear and had to buy a claw removal tool to finally retrieve it. They were original plugs and now I can see why they were never changed.

I own a 06 with 175,000 miles this exact car supercharger and color and all, only problem with mine is that the timing cover went bad on me
I bought my 2005 grand prix for $1,400 haven't had a problem with it yet. Starts up everytime.

Learn how to drive. The torque steer is minimal amd manageable.

You are correct that the V8 GXP was available in 2006, but the GTP name was dropped and they actually called the supercharged 3800 the GT.

How were the transmissions in these things?
Change your auto trans fluid every 30-40K and it's rare u have problems........DON'T DO A FLUSH, just a drain and fill and clean or change the trans filter IF it has one, some trans don't.
Most people have auto trans issues because they NEVER change their fluid.
my gtp runs low 13s and has no issues.
I got a 04 with 114K, it was owned by a guy that drove the car 3k a year. It was bought and serviced at the same dealer for 16 years (all most anal). My goal now is to preserve it as much as possible as well as enjoy it. I want to be that 60 year old guy still driving his 76 Grand Prix that he got when he was 18. My 17 Mustang is my daily with 40k and its already wearing worst than your 06 in this video. Makes you say "HUH".

It's a 2006 GT; they changed the trim names oddly in the middle of this generation's run. Before the V8 GXP was introduced, the NA 3800 was called GT and the SC 3800 was called GTP. After the V8 came out it went base (no trim name), then GT for the SC 3800, then GXP. Odd move because the 3800 SC had always been called GTP even in the earlier generation but that's what they did.

I always thought these were nice, good looking cars until you stepped inside. That's a really ugly/cheap feeling dash IMO. Somehow Pontiac thought that by making their interiors busier it was a step up from the more plain Chevy interiors. Instead they were just uglier than a Chevy or Buick interior, not better.
Clearly you don't read with any more depth than you write. Might want to send Robert Monk a box of mini muffins for openly plagiarizing the GM-10 section of his paper "GM Corporate Governance Case Study." Of course, that document was proven wildly inaccurate by history. The GM-10 platform may not have met overly optimistic projections, and certainly was expensive to develop, but by any objective measure it was a huge success, and the cars more than met their design intentions.

There was NO GTP in 2006. The GT was supercharged and had all the bells and whistles the gtp always had. GM just dropped the Badging. I own a 2006 GT. Bought it in 09.
