It was a drum beat hard and loud. I was there in Los Angeles one and so many people turned up. Of course it was in the news but only aerial because on the ground, the placards are needing censorship.
Not a lot will do the job. Reason why people protest. To get the corporate entities and governments attention to make an urgent change

@@AllThingsSports. it is not haram if there are no free hugging and free kissing. Literally, I was in a protest and actually we were walking a meter apart from each other, so is that haram? I think if at all, Muslims who are not supporting the protest, instead they antagonize these protests, would garner sins. Common sense.

Worth listening to. In addition to the Sheikh's talk, it is good that the Scholars who support the permissibility of protest provide a guide/toolkit that can be used and easily accessible online for global use.
Part of this toolkit should be to encourage the protesters to observe Islamic etiquette, mannerisms, etc.

Jazakallah khairan Shaikh. We, in Australia will be protesting on a Sunday. Maybe due to time difference with USA/west so can be done simultaneously around the world. But sad to say, I don't see many muslims from other ethnic group in these protests. Even though we are not Arabs, we made sure we support protest that affect most causes e.g. Uyghur. May Allah open up the hearts of our ummah to be united by going all out in participating in protests, boycott etc. We should show our compassion as much as the non believer if not more. Even though they fight for human rights, we fight not only for that but also to liberate our Palestine brothers and sisters and Al Aqsa. May Allah make it easy for us. Amin

Nice explanation. Masa Allah. They are the people who are against protest are extremist. In Islam there's no place for any type of extremism even if it's halal. Use your wisdom. Not all the time only the literal meaning of scripture. Allah has given wisdom to few people not all of them.
IN ISLAM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PROTESTING. THERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS OF FIGHTING INJUSTICE AND OPPRESSION AND PROTEST IS ONE OF THE WAYS TO STAND AGAINST AGGRESSION. THIS SHOULD BE VERY CLEAR TO EVERYONE THAT THERE IS MORE NEED FOR SUCH A LECTURE!
We are commanded to use our voices to do good and forbid evil and must use it especially when we have no other means to combat evil and even if that wasn’t possible then we must hate evil in our hearts for the sake of Allah (God). Where does Sheik Dr Qadi delivers sermons? Which Masajid?
He could have quoted the ayahs regarding A'mr bil m'aruf and nahi a'nil munkar. This is 2nd stage of nahi a'nil munkar.
It is not haram depending on the situation
When he said that I don’t need to provide proof that protests are halal in Quran and hadith, he lost his case.
We need to speak up strong and loud as the atrocities is so brutal,just can't keep quiet.
It's strange to take this attitude while a genocide is happening. When Palestine is free, we can debate which tactics were more or less successful but while thousands are being slaughtered with impunity, all strategies to stop it should be tried.

I wanted to ask Sheikh if you've come across this statement and maybe if you could shed light on its grading:
*“One day Umar Stood up to deliver a sermon; in it, he said, ‘O people, whoever among you sees any crookedness in me in my character, my deals, my action, then let him straighten out that crookedness.’
A man from the audience called out, "by Allaah, were we to see any crookedness in you, we would have straightened it out with out swords.’
Umar then said, All praise is for Allaah, who has placed in this nation someone who will straighten the crookedness of Umar with his sword.’”*
- Akhbaar Umar (pg. 331,332); quoting from Ar-Riyaadh an Nadirah
This may be an evidence for protesting and even more than that if it is a reliable statement.

I don’t need any evidence of protesting. Anybody who insists that I do,or tries to create division at a moment like this, I want nothing to do with.
This hadith can also be used as an evidence for protests as a way to educate. But Ulema have advised against protesting rulers directly that they be deposed.
Narrated Anas RA that Allah's Apostle (SAWS) said, "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or he is an oppressed one. People asked, "O Allah's Apostle! It is all right to help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?" The Prophet said, "By preventing him from oppressing others." - Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 43, Number 624
Protest is the form of jihad
Yes it's true. Neither the Quran nor the Sunna confirms that protest is haram. During the time of Prophet Sallahu Aleihi Wasalam, demonstrations took place and even if they were not organized by Muslims, Prophet Sallahu Aleihi Wasalam never banned them. Opponents of the protests also claim that you should not ask kuffars for help, which is complete nonsense, because no one wants help from infidels. We demand that our governments, elected by us and supported by our taxes, act in accordance with the will of their citizens, because that is why we elected their representatives. In accordance with the will of society, we do not demand armed interventions to save the murdered, but to stop supporting the murderers and completely withdraw all support for their actions, both on the international forum, including by vetoing UN resolutions on a ceasefire and withholding material aid, especially stopping the arming of the genocidal army. .
Protest... if it is for good intention and greater good of humanity, then common sense, it should be not a problem.
Without a reason, Blocking road is Haram. Protesters always disturb common people, Disturbing other people is Haram.

Wa laikumus salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu
1. When Shekh suggests that it is the responsibility on those to prove - who say protesting, pleading to democratically elected government is haram; he actually denied his responsibility when he is making it to be halal. Though Allah has not given us authority to make something halal by stating that there are no ayats or hadiths indicating it to be haram. Categorizing halal and haram with this formula will cause anarchy by allowing so many evils invented and established on earth. And every believing souls experiencing those evils.
2. There are two ways to see things. One can see things in light of iman i.e. with the inner and outer eyes together and one can see things with outer eyes only like the secular sees things. If one has good iman and taqwah - he can clearly see that the world is contaminated to such an extent that it becomes too difficult to distinguish between truth and false, between halal and haram.
3. Once you can sense and recognize that the contamination is way too much - you with Iman will be careful accepting something without testing.
4. Democratically elected officials believe that they are for the people. People are their master. While the people think that these elected officials are their master. In reality both parties deny Allah as their true master.
5. Demanding, pleading, appealing justice or solution - with a belief that the rival, the challenger of God in authority, in legislation will deliver justice and solution is literally shirk.
6. Remember if Protesting is to be halal, mother of the believers Aysha, Amir Muwayiah, Leaders of Jannah Hussain (may peace and blessings be upon them all) will definitely go for protesting against their respective leaders in power.
I can go on with more points and anybody else can too. What is important to recognize that the western civilization and its principles to rule over mankind is man made and thus anti God. Whatever this civilization offers from democracy to finance to economy to voting to laws to ideology is questionable - requires special check in light of the Qur’an, Hadiths and seerah.

I'm sure Prophet Mohammad (Salalahu Walaihi Wasalam) and the rest of the Believers from the Days of Old, used to "protest" outside of the Ka'bah when the Disbelievers used to "desecrate" it.

It is the position of the shaykh of Islam ibn Taymiyya that everything is allowed unless it is expressly forbidden by textural evidence منع بنصوص
Nope it is one of the fundamental principles of Islam the past predecessors have utilized.
" The default position of things are permissible unless you have a reason to change that"

By protest and march, the dead human hearts and conscience can't be
awakened. We can assemble in thousands, it will not stop the oppressor.
Please watch Sami Hamdi on the Thinking Muslim podcast. Algeria and many of the other parts of the Muslim ummah are no longer under official colonization because of the efforts of this ummah. We should make our own efforts as well, so that we can be proud when we stand before Allah.
I am surprised the Sheikh never quoted the hadith that banned Muslims from protesting. He dwelled more on commentaries by people. I do not think the people against protests only hold on to those rhetorics. This lecture would have been fantastic if he quoted that hadith and then gave scholars' opinions on the hadith, vis-a-vis for or against protest. Wait, is the Shaikh saying there is no explicit hadith banning a protest?

Protest to bring awareness that Mercy of Islam is the only salvation for humanity. Mercy of Allah needs to be practically implemented as shown by prophet(sas) that we call it Khilafah. Sheik ridiculing and downplaying the Khilafah and those working for it is not right. He willing to tolerate non Islamic ideas but so harsh against the call of Khilafah? Something not right
