      Michael McCormick Greetings Michael McCormick....You are welcome, and Thanks, for Your great comment as well..........................Well, I guess this "One", and my other UA-cam Videos, are gonna..."Age" (aka, grow Older...lol), kinda like "We" all do, as the Clock goes...tick...Tick...TICK...lol..........................As I see it, as long as Pop Rivets, and the Tool/s that make them go "Pop", are still being Made and Sold, and, as long as this "Pop Riveting", UA-cam Video of mine, is "Up & Running", then hopefully, Folks, just like You, who happen, to want a some-what, simple, and easy-way (I hope), to kinda understand, how "Pop Riveting" is Done (and works too), is to, just sit back, and relax, watch & listen (if You choose to, that is), to what it is, that, I have to show and tell, in this particular Video of mine, and (hopefully...again), this, How to do..."Pop Riveting"...UA-cam Video of mine, is able to, shall we say..."Get the Job Done"...and nope, not meaning, that I'll be the One, Do-In the actual Pop Riveting on Your Project, but rather, I'll just be the One (aka, Guy), that, tried my darn-dest, to make the, may I call it "Art"...???...(more like Procedure...lol), of "Pop Riveting" (and yet, again...Hopefully)...as easy as possible, to understand, for Folks, that, just might be..."New to the Game"...(pretty much meaning, Not having, any previous Experience with Pop Riveting...what-so-ever)..................................If You care to, You can let me know, what-ever-it-is, about, like You were sayin', about how You were going to do, some Pop Riveting, on Your Custom Exhaust Project, and once I'm able to Form, a Mental Image, of Your Exhaust Project, I'm quite sure, that I'll at least, be able, to help You out some-what, given the, oh-so-many...Things, that I've Modified, Repaired, etc....................Well...Till next time................Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    Many thanks for the fantastic tutorial. I learned how to do this 25 years ago, but needed a refresher for a new project I am working on. You are a great teacher and I especially appreciate that you explained the mechanics of how the pop rivets work.

      Greetings...Jane Diane Ricciardi.............You're welcome, and Thanks, for Your well appreciated comment, and for watching too................It's, sure a good thing, that, this type of Pop Riveting, that we be do-in, is on a much smaller Scale (aka, size), then, that of, oh, something along the lines, of what, those LARGE Rivets, that fastened together, the likes of, the ocean going Ships Hull's/large steel plates, and, some of those, rather Large, Vehicle and Train Bridges, some of which, still retain, some real Historical Value, at that................Those, much older Rivets, that I was just eluding to, were, as I see it, were probably the basis, for our good ole Pop Rivet, and also be-in, the shall we say, Consumer's smaller Version, of those very same, LARGER Rivets, that I was mentioning above................Yes-Sir-ee-Bob...in order to, shall we say, Form, that common, good ole Head, on those older, really BIG Rivets, I believe, that I recall, that, in some cases, the end of that BIG Rivet (before), being formed-into, that, probably conventional, Mushroom shaped head, probably, had to be Heated-up, Red Hot, there-abouts, and then, pounded into submission, oops, I meant to say, pounded into the required shape, so the BIG Rivet's Head, would be able to make, a nice strong & secure joint...............Just thinkin'...those older BIG Rivets, and todays Pop Rivets, probably do, have something in common after all, and, that be, Both types, probably already have, One Pre-Formed Head, on, One end of, each of the Rivets, before any Riveting (process/procedure), of the two or more parts or pieces, actually begin.............Well, I figure that, a good Close-Up, of a Pop Rivet, should help explain things, all that much better, and also, make things, some-what easier to understand, I hope, and also, I try to keep my narration (wording), reasonably simple as well..............Oh, and Me, a Teacher...???...nah...more like a "Grease Monkey"...!!!...lol...........Good Luck, with Your nostalgic, re-introduction, to our good ole Friend...the Pop Rivet..........Thanks again, for Your super comment, and.......till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      +Jay Gold ....Greetings Jay Gold...."Wowsers"...!!!...I sure wasn't expecting a "Comment", like the one that You posted...!!!...and, Thanks kindly for "it", and for watching as well....................Yes-Sir-ee-Bob...I figure, that, by bolting-down the Video-Camera, really Still (as in, Not Shakin', like I was Filming a Horror Movie...lol), and also, Zooming-in reasonably Close as well, that, most of the Videos that I make, would be, shall we say, more enjoyable, and by having a fairly good Close-Up, of the Part, Tool, or what-ever, then, as I see it, will probably, make it so, a Person, would be able to, more easily, See and Understand, what-ever-it-was, that I was tryin' to Explain to them, at that particular point in time................My UA-cam Videos, are usually done in One-Take, and, are done with-out a Script, with the exception of, a few of them, where, I had to have some Specifications written down, on a piece of paper, and off to the side...............There are quite a few, Different types of Pop Rivets, that can be purchased, if the Store actually Stocks them, that is.............Pop Rivets, come in...Different...Lengths...Diameters...Head Shapes...and the...Materials, that they are made of as well, and, by choosing the best size, type, and material, that they are made of, for the Project at hand, will usually make-for, a really good end result (I hope).....................Thanks again, my Friend, for Your well appreciated Comment, and........till next time..........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Rick Fite Greetings Rick Fite....Thanks for watching, and for Your well appreciated comment, my Friend, and, for "Not", giving me a "Thumbs Down"...!!!...lol....The, shall we say..."Thumbs Down People"...that, don't back up..." Their Thumbs Down, Mouse Button Push", with a comment, explaining, as to why "They" did so, should for the most part, just be "Ignored", as "Those People"...that, just..."Can't Wait To use Their, so Very Powerful, Thumbs Down, Mouse Button Push"...probably, just have nothing better to do, and, I'm guessin', that, "it's", at least one way, that, "They" can get "Their Kicks", so to speak, and, maybe, to some extent, a way for..."Them" to "Vent"..."Their Frustrations"...perhaps...???...........Sure, any of "Them", might start adding, even more "Thumbs Down", to my UA-cam Videos, after reading this particular comment, and, that's when, You, Others, and I, will be most sure, that, once "They Do"..."They"...will have attained..."Troll Status"...!!!...lol (a "Troll", as I see it, is just someone out there, in "Cyberspace", tryin' their darn-dest, to, just start Trouble, as best they can, and, just remember)..."All of You Trolls out there"..."What Goes Around, Comes Around"...!!! (sooner or later), and, to Verify, just that, go Check out the Meaning of the word ..."KARMA"...(and, "it" happens to be..."Self Inflicted...!!!), and, please, don't say, that I didn't "Warn Ya"...cuz..."I Did"...!!!...lol.......................Now then, back to "Pop Riveting".........................If a Person doesn't have a Welding Machine, and the Skills to go along with it, and also, maybe, just maybe, the two or more "Parts/Pieces", that are to be "Joined Together"..."Can't Be Welded" (hey, might Not be "Metal" after all...lol)...then, Pop Riveting, is a great way, to, join & secure, two or more parts, or, sheet metal Together, in a quite Permanent way.........................There are Lots of Different Types/Styles of Pop Rivets out there, that can/might be available, in Different Types of Metal (Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, and, maybe other Metals as well, perhaps?), that also, have Different...Pre-Formed/Head Shapes, Diameters, and Lengths as well, and, once, the Best-One/Type is chosen, for the Job at hand, that, my Friend, will usually, make for, a very satisfactory end result.............................Heck, I've even used a "Common, House Nail", along with using a Ball-Pein (spelling?...pronounced "Peen") Hammer, Yes-Sir-ee-Bob, that be the type of Hammer, having one, kinda, Flat-Faced Surface, on one end, of the Hammer's head, and the Other End, having a Round/Ball-Shaped Head, on it (the Pein/Peen) End, and, basically, I just put the Hacksaw-cut-to-length (just a bit longer) Common Nail, Through a hole, in the Two Pieces of Metal, that needed to be Joined-Together, while supporting, that, Already Formed, Common Nail Head, end, on a Metal Block/Anvil, and, by using the Pein/Peen side, of the Hammer's Head, while Bangin' away, I "Mushroomed" (kinda like the Shape of One...lol), the Hacksaw cut end, of the Nail Over, and, once completed, those Two Pieces of Metal, will probably Never Come Apart...!!!...lol...............So, there You have it, well, for now that is...................Till next time..............Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Peggy Baker...............You're Welcome, and Thanks for watching..................Congratulations, for finding out, what that strange looking Tool, that You found in Your Dad's Toolbox, was used for....................There are quite a few Different Types of Pop Rivets, that are for sale (retail), that, shall we say, have Different (pre-formed) Head Shapes on them.....................The most common type, is usually, the Mushroom shaped one, that's usually made out of Aluminum (metal).................Then, there's the Countersunk Head type, (that I've used, and were made of Steel), which will usually end up, being Flush with (aka, even with), the surface of the Project, when all's said and done..................The Three types of Metal, that the Pop Rivets are made out of, are usually...Aluminum...Steel...and Stainless Steel, and You might not find, certain types of Pop Rivets, in the Store, where You are shopping, and that will usually depend on, just What...???...that particular Store, happens to have in Stock, at the time......................Then, there are also, Pop Rivets, that have Different Diameters, and also, the Length of them as well.....................You'll probably find, that, the Small Diameter Pop Rivets, that are made out of Aluminum, will go, "POP", quite Easily, as compared to, oh, lettuce say, a much LARGER Diameter of Pop Rivet, that's made out of Steel, then, You'll, have to be using, all Ur Might, to Squeeze the Pop Riveting Tool's Handles Together, to make that really LARGE & Strong Pop Rivet, to go, what was it now...ahh, that's it..."POP"...!!!...lol.......................If You happen to have any questions or concerns at all, just give me a Shout, and..........till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    Thank you for the patience to explain. I'm getting ready to install 2 additional downspout gutters (kitty corner) and these instructions have given me all I need. Much appreciated.

    • @RockysRoadshow
      @RockysRoadshow  6 років тому

      Greetings...J Nieto..........You're welcome, and, thanks for watching...........When, you drill the holes in the gutter, downspout, and corner pieces, try to keep the hole size (drill size), as close as possible, to the diameter, that's just under the pop rivet's pre-formed head, b-cuz, if you make the hole too Big, then, the other end of the pop rivet, where that bulge shape take place/forms, might "pull-through", that hole, that was too Big............Also, maybe, drill only, one hole at a time, into, the two (or more?) pieces, that have to be secured together, and then, install one pop rivet, and then, drill another hole, and install a pop rivet in that hole, that way, the drilled holes, in, the two or more gutter pieces, will be lining up much better, as opposed to, drilling all of the holes first, and possibly finding that, the holes, might, "not be lining up", as good, as was expected, maybe..........Good luck, and.......till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Lynda _Lee...……You're welcome, and, thanks for watching...……Always wear..."Eye Protection"...just in case, things go flying...……..Try to keep the hole size, quite close to, the pop rivet's, shank diameter (shank = just under the pre-formed head), so, the pop rivet, just makes its way, through the hole, because, if the hole, that is drilled, is too Big, then, the other end, of the pop rivet, might pull through, the over-sized, drilled hole, sometimes, right away, or maybe, later on, when it might become, an unwanted surprise, just sayin' now...lol...…….There are also steel washers, of the correct size, that can be added onto, one, or both ends, of the pop rivet, in order, to keep the pop rivet, from pulling through the drilled hole (good to use, when joining, thin plastic sheets together, as an example)......….There are different sizes of pop rivets, as in, the diameter, and, the length of them, as well as, what kind of material, that, the pop rivet is made out of...……..Aluminum, is about, the most common material to be had (purchased)...…….There are also, pop rivets, that are made out of, plain steel (can rust), or even, stainless steel (usually, no rust what-so-ever)……….The easiest, to make, go "pop", is an aluminum pop rivet, that is smaller in size...…...The most difficult, (might take, some, real brute force), would be, a stainless steel pop rivet, that is, very Large in diameter...…….Try to get a pop riveting tool, that has very long handles on it, that way, you won't have to be using, as much force, as, the short handled variety...…….The pop riveting tool, that I used in this video, is just a cheap one, but, it did come with, a few, little plastic bags, of assorted (sizes), of aluminum pop rivets...……..Also, if wanting to use, two or more pop rivets, on a given project, then, I find, by drilling one hole at a time, then, installing a pop rivet, in that just drilled hole, then, moving across the project, one hole, and, one pop rivet at a time, otherwise, if Ya were to drill, all of the, (two or more) holes first, then, Ya might find, that, some of those other holes, that are in, the two or more pieces (sheet metal, as an example), might not be lining up, with one-another, the further, that Ya get away from, pop riveting, the very first hole, and, it tends to get worse, when, Ya start adding, more and more pop rivets, into your project...…….Yes-Sir-ee-Bob...one might say, that...I've seen that...been there...and...done that too...(well...only sometimes...lol)………..Good luck, with your (future) pop riveting adventures, and...….till next time...…..Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...MacDaddy69...........You're welcome, and thanks for watching............Well, it seems to me, that, People (in general), learn new things, in, shall we say, different ways, as in, some folks, take to, and learn new things much easier, if the (new) subject matter, tends to be in the ball-park, of their interest/skill set level, as opposed to, someone, who is totally new to, doing, and/or, learning about something, where-by, they might not have done a certain procedure, or fixed something, that is related to, the so-called, new subject matter, that's now before them.............For example, let's say, that, a person, might only have experience, working in an office environment, and, has never, ever, hammered a nail into some wood, with a hammer before...or...take a construction worker, and put him or her, into an office environment...(get the picture...???)...oh ,and, this pop riveting video of mine, could have been quite a bit longer, than it is now, if I were to include, the drilling of the holes, in those two pieces of sheet metal, along with, the information, that might have been related to, the electric hand drill that I used, and maybe, some information, on what to be looking out for, when using a twist drill/drill bit, in such a capacity..............See that, even this Reply, is some-what lengthy (too long...???) as well...lol.......and, till next time........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      bg147 Greetings bg147...You are welcome (for, like You were sayin', this informative video of mine), and, Thank You, for Your comment, and, for watching too.............................I hear Ya, when it comes to, not doing any Pop-Riveting, while having spent, quite a bit of time (probably in Years, along with some sweat, and, I'll fathom a guess, at, letting a few "Cuss-Words" slip, from time to time as well...!!!...lol), and, I also, had quite a bit of time (as in many Hours, and Years), doin' plenty of mechanical work, pretty much like You have..."With-out Doin' any Pop Riveting"...as well, until, not all that long ago...how about that...lol................................Although, I didn't actually "Do", any Pop Riveting with that fancy schmancy Pop Rivetin' Tool, back then,I sure dealt with "Plenty" of them, "After" they were Installed in an old Dodge Van, that I use to have...!!!......................................Here's the deal.............I bought an old Dodge "Window" Van (that be Windows on both sides, and, Back and front too) from a Guy, that, took it upon Himself ("Before", I became the New Owner, that is), to "Remove", all of the "Side Windows" (but he did leave the 2 Rear Windows Intact), and, after "Removing" all of those "Side Windows on Both Sides" of the Van, He then "Installed" some rather Heavy Gauge "Galvanized Sheet Metal"...with...lots, did I say LOTS, of "Pop Rivets"...that, shall we say..."Took the Place of"...all of those (use to be part of the Van) "Side Windows".............................Then, there came a time, where-by, I thought to myself...Self...how about You (meaning Me), find a way to get those "Protruding Pop Rivets"...to..."Not Protrude any more"...so...I can make "it" (the Van), look a bit nicer, by "Blending in"...all of those..."Galvanized Sheet Metal Panels"...with some..."BONDO" (auto-body filler), and top that off, with some (crap-in-the-spray-can)...Red Oxide..."Primer"...well, Easier said...then Done...!!!...lol....................................Now, how the heck, am I gonna get...All of those Pop Rivet "HEADS" (Yes-Sir-ee-Bob...those particular Pop Rivets, happened to be, the good ole Garden Variety, easily obtainable type, that do have, that rather LARGE, Mushroom Head, on the pre-formed Side of the Pop Rivet, Before it goes "Pop")...to end up, being just under, that of being, just Below the Surface of All of those Galvanized, Sheet Metal Panels...???.............................(Finally, a "Light Bulb"..."Illuminates Itself"...inside my Head), and, "Wull-Ah", I came up, with a, shall we say..."Battle Plan"...that should result, in having, "All of Those, and So Many"..."Pop Rivet Heads"..."Remaining Below"...All of those, Galvanized Sheet Metal Panels, when all said and done...!!!.............................Once the "Interior Walls" of the Van, were exposed, down to where, only the Van's, Metal Structure, and, the Galvanized, Sheet Metal Panels, were facing me (Yes-um, I had to be "Inside" the Van, for that to be happen-in'...lol), oh and, I Mustn't forget, me "Seeing" the (I lost count, of how Many)..."Back-Side"...of..."All of those Pop Rivets"...as well...!!!...Yikes...!!!...lol.............................So, I then got a hold of, a rather Heavy Piece of, "3/4 to maybe 1Inch", Inside Diameter Pipe (I think?), and, that there Pipe, was Not for me to "Hold", but, "it" was for..."The Poor Guy"...that was about to, find out, what it's gonna "Feel-Like & Listen-To", as I see it, and that was, that of "Being Inside a Marching Band's"..."Bass Drum"...while the Guy or Gal...(actually, it wound up, Be-in..."ME"...lol)..."Pounding on, that there..."Big Ole Bass Drum"...and, was really..."Goin' to Town on It"...with those..."2, rather Large Drum Mallets"...!!!...(Imagine now...Hearing & Feeling, some of that..."BONG"...!!!..."BONG"...!!!..."BONG"...!!!), as I was on the "Outside", of the Van..."Pounding Away"...with a..."Punch-Like-Metal-Bar/Rod"...and also, using a pretty, darn heavy Hammer, as well...in order to, shall we say..."Force, all of those Mushroom shaped Pop Rivet Heads"..."Below the Surface, of, All of those Galvanized, Sheet Metal Panels...!!! (kinda like...lol...for Me, but, not so much, for my..."Poor Ole Friend"...that was so Kind & Generous, to actually take..."All of that Punishment"...as well as..."Survive"...all of that..."BONG-IN"...each and every time, that I was..."Pound-in", on that Bar/Metal Rod-like..."Punch"...that I was Holdin' with One Hand, while I was "Swing-in', that, Big Ole Hammer with the Other Hand...!!!...oh and..."Thank-You-Friend"...for Take-in', all of that there..."BONG-IN"...!!!......Well, once All of that "Bong-in", subsided, and finally came to an "End"..."Each and Every One of those, oh So Many"..."Protruding, Mushroom-like, Pop Rivet"..."Heads"...were now..."Sitting"...just..."Below the Surface"...All of those there..."Galvanized Sheet Metal Panels"...awaiting..."Their Turn"...to then become..."Hidden"...with the following........."Grind...Grind...Grind"..."Sand...Sand"..Sand"...Removing All the "Paint"...that was in near Proximity, to "All of those Pop Rivets & the surrounding Sheet Metal"...so...the..."BONDO"...will..."STICK" (as in STUCK), and, Not Fall Off...!!!........................Once the "BONDO", was Shaped/Formed & Sanded, and Blending nicely, into that, concave Radius, that ran down each side of the Van, just below, the bottom, of, each and every Galvanized, Sheet Metal Panel, that now has..."All of those, oh So Many, Pop Rivets"..."Hidden, by all of that there "BONDO/Goop", and just like "Icing a Cake", the (crap-in-a-spray-can-red-oxide-Primer-paint), became, just That, being the "Icing", and I guess, the BONDO, was the actual Cake, that, I did stand back, and look admirably at, all the while (big sigh), I knew that, this particular "Cake"..."Can't Be Eaten"...!!!...lol......(hell-of a Story that was, but, all True, never-the-less...!!!)............Well, that's "Story Time", for today...Boys and Girls...and...Till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...georgepaulsmith.........Thanks for watching, and for, Your nice comment as well, as, I do, really appreciate it, my Friend...............I find things, that much easier, to learn about, if, Who-ever-it-just-might-be, chooses, some, shall we say Simple Language, as opposed to, something along the lines, of what, some of the Medical Terminology, that might be, used/spoken, happens to be (usually Complicated, hard to read & pronounce words, if You will), and, that, a reasonably good "Close-Up" (video camera-wise, that is), kinda-like, what You saw, in this Pop Riveting, UA-cam Video of mine, should, for the most part, well, kinda, make things a bit easier to understand, and hopefully, help out some People, that perhaps, haven't been exposed to, or experienced, Pop Riveting yet................There are quite a few, different types of Pop Rivets out there, and even the type of Metal, that they are made out-of as well..........................The Metals, are usually...Aluminum...Steel...or...Stainless-Steel..................Then, there are Different Lengths and Diameters as well..............Then, there's the Pop Rivet's (pre-formed) Head "Shape", as in, the good ole common..."Mushroom" (shape/style)... that will protrude, up-above, the surface, of the Project/Part...................Then, there's, the..."Counter Sunk" (head/style), that will usually end-up, being Flush-with (aka, even-with), the Project's Surface, if it's done right, that is...lol....................Just thinkin' (sometimes, that's been known to happen...lol), and that is, maybe, just Maybe, "Pop Riveting", just might be, considered-as, now get this..."A Poor Man's...Welder"...!!! (aka, Welding Machine)...lol...and, now that, that's all said and done, I say.........till next time.............Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      +Rod Newman ....Greetings Rod Newman....You're Welcome, and, Thanks for Your nice comment, and for watching as well...................Well, the Great Camera Work, comes from the...2 x 2...(actually, more like...1 and 1/2 Inches), Piece of Square Wood, that the Video Camera is Bolted to, as well as, having that very same piece of Wood, fastened to the Ceiling, or sometimes, on a piece of 2 x 2, that is configured as, a securely mounted "Pole", if You will, so the Video Camera is "Not Shakin' (like, when, just hand-holding it), like I was tryin' to Film a "Horror Movie"...!!!...lol...........Yes-Sir-ee-Bob...by having the Video Camera held Stationary/Still, as well as, having the right amount of Zooming-in with the Lens, and, last but not least, enough Lighting, to light, the, shall we say, Scene...............The Result is, pretty much, what You are Seeing, when-ever You are Watching, (and hopefully hearing as well...lol), as it applies to, most of my UA-cam Videos, and..........till next time...........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    Really nice video. Exactly what I needed and have looked for. I've watched quite a few "riveting" videos. :) Good visuals with perfect level of detail and very clear explanation. I'm now fully prepared to purchase and use the tool. I hope you've got a similar video for a rivet removal tool! Thank you very much!

    Thanks for the informative video! Very well done!! I want to build a couple of compost barrels and the instructions included using a rivet gun to attach the cut out door and fins to the barrel. I had no idea what they looked like let alone ever having used one. Now that I do , I'll be purchasing one soon and I'm sure I'll find other things to use it on. I loved the simplicity of the tool. Again thanks!

      Bailey Seven Greetings Bailey Seven....You are welcome, and, Thanks for watching, and for, Your very much Appreciated comment, as well, my Friend........I do what I can, to try and explain things, in my UA-cam Videos, having, a, shall we say...a fairly decent "Close-Up", if the Subject at hand, will permit me to do so, and, I figure, by using some reasonably Simple Language, to Describe, what-ever "It" is, that I'm trying to help People learn about, or, perhaps, Add some further Information, to, or on top of, what They may already have a basic understanding, about already, then, I guess that, One could say, that, that's kinda been my intention, or goal, all along, if You will.................................................As for "Pop Riveting", the way I see it, is..."Once"...a Person, makes His or Her..."First"..."Pop Riveted Joint"...then, just by doing so, the Person Using the Pop Riveting "Tool", will probably "See", just how "Simple" and "Straight Forward", as well as "How Easy"...Pop Riveting, can actually be...(well, apart, from having to Use, some rather, "Forceful Squeezing Pressure/Action", on the Pop Riveting "Tool's Handles", that is, to actually Make the Pop Rivet go "POP"...lol)......................................Perhaps, "Check-Out", the "Many Different"..."Types/Styles" of "Pop Rivet"..."Pre-Formed Heads"...the "Different" Lengths, and the "Materials", that the Pop Rivets are Made out of, as there happen to be, quite a few to Choose from, and, by "Choosing", the Best, or Proper "One", that will "Suit" the Job, that's being undertaken, as Compared to, just using, the shall we say, "Traditional", or "Most Common Type", usually being the "Aluminum Pop Rivet", with that rather Large, "Protruding, Pre-Formed Head" on "It", then, the..."End Result"...should be some-what "Better", if You will................................................A fairly good example, of a Pop Rivet, would be, "One", that has a...(pre-formed)..."Countersunk Head" (aka, once installed, the Pop Rivet's "Head", sits reasonably "Even-with", and Doesn't "Stick up Past, or leave a Bulge", protruding "Up, past the Surface of the Project", like the pre-formed, "Common/Aluminum, Bulging Head Type" does), and, some that I've used in the past, were made out of "Steel" (Stronger then Aluminum), and, if Pop Rivet/s, that are made out of "Stainless Steel", happen to be available, then, "They" probably "Won't Rust"...!!!...........................Good Luck, with Your...Future..."Pop Riveting Adventures"...!!!.....................................Till next time..........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Johnny Walker............You're welcome, and, thanks for the nice comment, and for watching too...........Well, I guess, it's a kinda no-brainer (so to speak), that, if a Person is able to see something, that is, shall we say, "Close Up", and in this case, that be, a Close Up view, that was provided by the Video Camera, when it was Zoomed-in, on the Pop Riveting method, that was goin' on, at the time............I, at the very same time (while Video-ing), try to explain things, in a some-what, simple manner, and, I try to use some, easy to understand Words as well, hopefully, that is, and........till next time........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      +Kisuk Yang ....Greetings Kisuk Yang....Thanks, so much, for Your nice Comment, and for watching as well...............Well, once the Video Camera's Record Button gets pressed, my mind kinda goes into, what I like to call, "Auto-Pilot" mode, pretty much meaning, I just say what-ever it is, that I'm thinking about at the time, as it applies to, what happens to be in front of me, when-ever I'm making a UA-cam Video...................Having the Video Camera "Mounted" on a piece of wood, and having that very same piece of wood, secured solidly as well, kinda acts, just like having the Video Camera, mounted on a Tripod, and the result is, a UA-cam Video, that doesn't wiggle and giggle all over the place, oh, and also, makes it so, I'm able to have Both Hands Free, well, once that Video Camera's Record Button gets pressed, that is...lol......................I'm no expert, when it comes to Photography, or Video-Taping for that matter, but, I do recall some things, that I've done in the past...................I guess, when I was about 10 Years old, give or take a year or two, I had a Neighbor, who lived across the street, that, sure taught me a lot of things, one of which, was, Taking Pictures, with an old Kodak, Bellows, type of Camera, that took black and white pictures..............Then, once, I used-up all of the Film, that was in that Camera, He then, taught, and showed me, How to Develop (the Negatives),and Print the Pictures as well (lucky me alright)..................I recall the Dark-Room, where He had those trays full of liquid, and, how we had to go, from the dark-room, into his kitchen, to get some exposure light, for, just the right amount of time, and, back into the dark-room we went.....................Also, some years ago, some Friends of mine, at different times, who were getting Married, asked me, if I would take, some 35-mm Still Pictures, with a Cannon Camera, that wasn't very old at all, at that time..................So I did, and, I gave them, the Rolls of exposed Film, with Their, mostly, Reception Pictures on them........Then, they had those pictures that I took, developed/printed, and had some of them, enlarged/blown-up, oh, maybe to, about the size of a sheet of computer printer paper perhaps, and "Wowsers"...!!!...I gotta say, I was truly Amazed, at how good those Pictures that I took, turned out...!!!...probably, not because of me, but rather, just how good, that 35-mm Cannon Camera, and its Lens, happened to be...lol....................Well, come to think of it, I did Video-tape a couple of Weddings, a Car-race, and a Motorcycle-race, with a VHS (BIG Video Tape), type of Video Camera, some time ago...................Thanks to You, You triggered my Memory, and, I was able to, shall we say...Re-Live the Past...and...Thank-You for that...and........till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Turtle Squad.................Thanks for the nice comment, and Thanks, for watching too...............You will probably find, that, the smaller diameter Pop Rivets, that are made out of Aluminum, will usually go "Pop", much easier, as in, not having, to be using, too much Force, while trying to Squeeze the Pop Riveting Tool's, Handles Together, to complete the Pop Riveting process, as compared to, something like, the LARGER Diameter Pop Rivets, that are made out of, that Steel material, as I've experienced, for quite some time now................Make sure, that, if using, 2 or more Pop Rivets, in the same project, that, all of the "Holes", that those Pop Rivets will be going through, actually "Line Up" with one another, or look Ma, there's gonna be a problem...lol..................When-ever Pop Riveting, and/or, Drilling, or Punching Holes in any material, to, Always be Wearing Safety Goggles or a Face Shield, in order to Protect Your Eyes (Eyesight)...!!!.................Good Luck, with Your School Project....and..........till next time..........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Kraegy M...........Thanks for the nice comment, and for watching too...........This, Pop Riveting, UA-cam Video of mine, should, more than likely, (and hopefully), provide the Basics, if You will, and, I was just using/showing, the more common, Aluminum, Mushroom Shaped Head (on the pre-formed end of it), type of Pop Rivet.................There are quite a few, different types of Pop Rivets, that are available for sale, and, the ones that You'll see, at the Store, will, more or less, depend on, what is in stock, at that particular time............They come in different...Diameters, Lengths, Head Shapes (pre-formed, on one end only), and also, the Material, that they are made out of as well, as in...Aluminum, Steel, and possibly, Stainless Steel as well.............Maybe, do an internet search, on Pop Rivets, and have a look at, some Pictures of them, and hopefully, You'll be able to find/see, those different Types of Pop Rivets, that I was tellin' You about, just above these words............Good luck, with finding those Pictures, if, You do so, and.......till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Sad to say maybe, but there have been a number of times/jobs where I knew pop rivet was exactly what I needed to "do the job" but I never knew how they worked. Still not quite sure how the "bulge" on the opposite end is created but that's o.k. At least now I know HOW to use a pop riveter. Thanks again for your efforts.

    • @RockysRoadshow
      @RockysRoadshow  10 років тому

      Greetings WVFreebyrd....Thanks for watching, and for Your great comment too....Now then, about "How" the Pop Rivet's "Bulge" is created....First thing, in order to have a good Pop Rivet Joint, between "2" of more, pieces of Metal, is to make sure, that the Hole, that You Drill, or by using other means, is to make sure, that Hole "Size" is Only "Slightly" Larger, then the "Outside" Diameter, of, the part of the Pop Rivet, that gets Inserted into the Holes of the pieces of Metal, that are to be Joined....If the Hole, or Holes are Too Big/Large, the Pop Rivet might not work correctly....Once the "Correct Length of Pop Rivet", gets Inserted, all the way into the "2" or more, pieces of Metals "Holes", then, the "Tool", starts "Pulling" that, what looks, kinda like a nail with a head on it, "Through" the Larger (outside) part of the Pop Rivet, until that, so called "Nail Head", gets "Stopped" by the Back-Side piece of Metal, that is to be Joined with the other Piece or Pieces of Metal, as the case may be.
      When that so called "Nail Head" gets "Stopped", and can go "No Further", there is usually a "Weak Spot" on that so called "Nail", in the form of a "Groove" or "Reduced Size", and when the "Tool" Exerts enough "Force", that so called Nail "Breaks" (or "Pops") at its "Weak Point", and leaves the Nails "Head", Inside the Outer part of the Pop Rivet, which Results in, what looks like, a kind of "Mushroom", so to speak, (or as You put it...a Bulge), which keeps the Metals "Joint" under Pressure, and, in a rather Permanent way.
      Once the Pop Riveted "Joint" is Completed, there is the part of that so called Nail, that remains in the Pop Rivet "Tool", and is "Straight", and without the Nail Head (anymore), that remained in the Pop Rivet itself (on the Back-Side of the Pop Rivet).
      In order to use the Pop Rivet "Tool" again, a Person, has to make sure, that the "Left-Over" part of that Previously Used Pop Rivet's, so called Nail's Left Over Bit/Piece (straight piece, without the Head), is removed from the "Pop Rivet "Tool", or, the Next "New" and Not Used Yet, Pop Rivet, won't be able to be Inserted into the Pop Rivet "Tool"...!!!
      I hope that the "Above" explanation is able to clarify, somewhat, at to "How" a Pop Riveted "Joint" is actually Made, or Formed.
      Oh yeah, once "You" make the First "Successful" Pop Riveted "Joint", You will "Easily", actually "See", just how "Simple", a Pop Rivet really "Works"...!!!
      Just like they say..."A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words"...
      ...but, if You do happen to do some of Your Own Pop Riveting, a Picture, won't be needed..."Unless"...You happen to want one, that is...!!!
      Make sure that You Wear Safety Glasses...!!!...
      ...and...
      ...Good Luck, with any Future Pop Riveting "Adventures"...!!!
      Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...yesyoumay................You're welcome, and Thanks for watching..............Well, I guess it might be thorough, to a point somewhat, and I'm sayin' that, cuz, I didn't show, "how", the..."Mysterious" Holes, that were already in the two pieces of Sheet Metal, were made, and actually got there, before I pressed the Record Button, on the video camera...(I say, as, there are some rather..."Spooky"...Halloween-like sounds, being heard in the background...!!!...Yikes...!!!...lol)...and, those Holes, had to be there, so the Pop Rivets, had some Holes, to be going through, in order for me, to get the Pop Rivets, to go, ummmm...what was it now...???...oh yeah, that's it....."POP"...!!!...lol.................Truth be told...I used an Electric, plug-in-the-wall, Hand Drill, that spun a Drill Bit/Twist Drill, round-n-round, while the two pieces of sheet metal, were stacked, on-top-of-each-other, so, all of the Holes, that I drilled, would line-up, with each other...so then..."Mystery Solved"...!!!...lol...oh, and...those..."Spooky"...Halloween-like sounds, can no longer be heard, as well...lol..................There are quite a few, shall we say..."Different"...Kinds & Sizes"...of Pop Rivets, that You might come across some day, if You were to go shopping for them, and after sayin' such a thing, I should also mention, that, the Pop Rivets, that You see, will probably, depend-on, just "What, & Which"...???...Pop Rivets, that the Store, has in Stock, at the time...............You might encounter...different, Lengths & Diameters...different, pre-formed (on, one end only), Head Shapes, as in, the good ole, Regular lookin', Mushroom type, as well as, a Countersunk type of head, which will usually, end up being, Flush/Even-with, the Surface, of the Project in question, when all's-said-&-done, oh, and also, if it's done correctly as well (usually requires, that, the Proper Hole Size is in place to start with)...............Then, there's the Material, that the Pop Rivets, are made out of, as in...Aluminum...Steel...&...Stainless Steel, most times, and, with...that said, I say........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Wilson Gomez.............You're welcome, and Thanks for the nice comment, and for watching too..............Pop Riveting, sure comes is handy at times, alright..............Having lots of Pop Rivets, equally spaced apart, on a project that will allow it, sure makes for a really Strong Joint, most of the time..............Also, comes in real handy, if a Person doesn't have a Welder, and the skills to go along with it, and, that the Project, actually is, Pop Rivet-able as well..............Maybe, check out the Different Types of Pop Rivets, as in, their Pre-Formed Head Shapes, their Lengths, and the type of Metal, that they are made out of, as well sometime, as, some Projects, tend to turn out much better, if the Best Type (style), of Pop Rivet is used on it, and........till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      +redtrinitygirl ....Greetings redtrinitygirl....You're Welcome, and Thanks for watching.......These little Pop Rivets, are quite Strong alright, and just like People, there is...Strength-in-Numbers...pretty much meaning, the More there are, the Stronger They can be (as in, a Group of People at a gathering place)...or...as it gets (when a Group of Pop Rivets, are used in the very same Item or Project)......................I'm guessin', that Pop Rivets, probably came into being, because of the History, of the Much LARGER Steel Rivets, that were used, a long, Long Time Ago, to Keep-Together, very Strongly, I might add, things like, Very Old, Steel...Bridges...Ships...Steam powered Locomotives, that pulled Train Cars and such..................Oh, and, I even had a Friend, who had a Formula Atlantic Race Car, that was Held-Together with (I lost Count of, how many there were...Yikes...!!!)...Yup, You got it..."Pop Rivets"...!!!...lol.............Maybe have a look at some Pictures on the Internet, of some Very Old...Train and Vehicle Bridges, and some very Old Steel Ships, that were actually "Riveted" Together, with quite LARGE, Steel "Rivets", and, if and when You do, I'll bet, that You'll be quite Impressed, much like I was, when I saw, just How Strong, those, very, Very, Long Time Ago, Steel..."Rivets"...actually were...!!!...and.......till next time.........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    The numbers on the side would be the diameter of the rivets that the head works with. This is also the size of the hole that needs to be drilled in the items to be riveted.
    The process is better described as "mushrooming". When the tool is squeezed it constricts on the rivet pulling the pin head deeper into the socket. When it can't compress any more the pin POPS leaving behind the rivet.

      +sateanjing ....Greetings sateanjing....Oh no, a Broken Pop Rivet...Yikes...!!!...lol..........The first, and very important thing to consider, is, to make sure, that, the New Pop Rivet, is as Strong, or even Stronger, than the "One-that-Broke".....................Please, can You perhaps tell me, what it is, that needs to be fixed, that way, I'll have a better idea of, how to help You out............................Usually, the Pop Rivets "Body", as You called it, should, just-barely, be able to (aka, almost snugly), go through the Hole, that the Broken Pop Rivet came out of, without too much Clearance (aka, wiggle room) side to side, that is.............Usually, on the Package, that the Pop Rivets come in, You will probably be reading the following......................The Material that they are made out of.........the Diameter of the Body (use the size, that's just a tiny bit smaller, than the hole, that's in, Your Broken Part, Item, or, what-ever-it-is)...................the type/shape of Head on it................and then, there's the Pop Rivet's Length...................The Pop Rivets Length, has to be Longer, than the length of the hole in Your Item, so the nail-like head, has enough of the Pop Rivet's, Body Length left over, after it is installed, into Your Item, so that nail-like head, will be able to "Form the Bulge", so the Pop Rivet will be able to Squish and Secure "Together", Your Item's individual parts, pieces, or, what-have-you..........Am I be-in...Clear as Mud...???...lol........................If You care to, You can let me know, how it's goin', and.............till next time............Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    I have a slice in my truck bed. and was thinking I could repair it by adding a piece of metal underneath and riveting it together? I would need it to be as flush as possible on the topside, so would I need someone else underneath holding the rivet in place while I pop it?

      +Jonathan Breckenridge ....Greetings Jonathan Breckenridge....Thanks for watching............Yes, indeed, You'll have to have, that (sheet metal?) "Patch", held in place, until, a few of the Holes are drilled, and a few of the Pop Rivets, get installed, then (hopefully), they'll be able to hold that "Patch" in Place, enough-so, that, the Drilling and Pop Riveting can be done, oh and, try not to have any Drill "Shavings/Debris", caught between the 2 pieces of Metal, before Pop Riveting, oh and, try Not to, Drill into Your Helper's "Hand or Fingers"...!!!...Ouch...!!!........................By placing, the shall we say...(sheet metal)..."Patch"..."Underneath"...then, that has me thinkin', that, it wouldn't be as "Strong-as", placing that (sheet metal) "Patch", on "Top" of, the surface in question, but after-all, You did say, that the Surface (in question), has to stay "Flush" (aka, even-with), when all's said and done.............Try to find, and buy, some..."Countersunk"...Headed...Pop Rivets, cuz, once they are Installed/go Pop, then, those "Countersunk" Headed Pop Rivets, will usually end-up bein', reasonably "Flush/even-with", the Surface in question, providing that, You Drill the Correct Diameter of Hole, that, that (hypothetical) "Countersunk" Pop Rivet goes through.....................Just so You know..."Pop Rivets"...are made out of Different types of Metal, as in...Aluminum...Steel...and...Stainless Steel, and come in, Different...Diameters...Lengths...and...Head Shapes as well..................Usually, on a smaller, package of Pop Rivets, that I've seen in a Store, there's usually a Pop Rivet Picture on it, along with, the required Sizes, that, that Exact Size (and type) of Pop Rivet, will be able to Secure/Fasten together properly................."BEFORE"...You start "Drilling any Holes"..."Check/Look, and Make Sure"...!!!...that, there are..."NO-Brake Lines or Fuel Lines"...or..."Any Other Lines...etc."...anywhere Near, where that..."Drill Bit/Twist Drill"...Go-Through"...!!!..............Usually, the more Pop Rivets that are used, and being evenly spaced apart from one-another, the Stronger the Joint, will usually be, but please, don't have "it" looking like "Swiss Cheeze", by using, "Way Too Many Pop Rivets"...!!!...lol................Good Luck, and...........till next time............Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      +Ross Munn Greetings Ross Munn....Thanks for watching.....................Now then, about that Rusting, when Aluminum, touches Steel..............................As I see it, it's not so much, about Rust, but rather, a..."Corrosion-like"..."Interaction"...that could take place, over a fair amount of time, can be, quite common, when-ever..."2 Different Types of Metal"...are..."In Contact"...with each other...............................Assuming, that You will be doing some Bodywork/Sheet Metal "Repairs", on "Steel" (sheet metal) Body-Panels and such, it's always a good idea, to be using "Steel" Pop Rivets, to Avoid, any Unwanted..."Corrosion-like Interaction"...that's for sure...............................Welding, Auto-Body, Steel, Sheet Metal, Panels & Patch Panels, that aren't Bolted-on, is the best way to go, but, not Everyone, has the Welding Equipment, and the experience, to go along with it................................When-ever, I did any Auto-Body, Rust Hole Patching, I always used..."Steel"..."Countersunk-Headed"...Pop Rivets...so the...Pop Rivet's..."Head"...would be, almost Flush (even-with), the Finished Surface, of the Steel/Sheet Metal "Patch", as opposed to, having a "Big Bump", sticking-up, as a result, of using, the Common, "Mushroom-Headed" type of Pop Rivet................................I also, Created/Made, a..."Flange"...as in, a "Recess", that, the Steel, Sheet Metal "Patch", could sit down into, just Below, the "Finished Surface", of the Vehicle's Body Panel, and Sanded/Removed, all of the Paint, and such, where the Bondo, was to be Applied, right Down to the Metal itself, then it was Pop Riveted into place, with "Steel...Countersunk...Pop Rivets"...and then, Bondo was applied (just like Icing a Cake...lol), just a bit Higher, so, I could Sand-it-Down, until, it was Even-with, the Vehicle's Body Panel, then, on went the Primer Paint............................If, Steel, Sheet Metal, was just "Over-Lapped", with-out, having that "Flange", that I just mentioned, then, it would probably, just be a matter of time, where, the 2 pieces of Sheet Metal, have been...Expanding & Contracting...due to Temperature Changes, then, a "Crack", would usually Appear, where, Moisture, would eventually, get into, and then, over time, it would probably get worse, not looking so good, and once the Moisture, really sets in, then, there might be, some Paint Peeling, and/or Bondo Bubbles as well...Yikes...!!!...................In case You might not know already...Bondo...Does Not like Water or Moisture, and, if possible, try to "Water-Proof", the "Back-Side", of any Repair, where Bondo is being used, or, over quite some time, those good ole (not-so-wanted)..."Bondo Bubbles"...might start showing up...maybe...???.......Also, Bondo, Sticks Best, to "Clean...Shine-ee...Roughed-Up"...Metal (No Rust or Paint Allowed...!!!...lol)..............If possible, Room Temperature, and, Not too much Moisture/Humidity, works really good, for Bond-Work & Painting.........................The Hotter it is, the Faster, that, the Bondo, will usually, Set-Up/Cure (just ask me...I know...lol)...........Not so long ago, I was thinkin', to, Glue/Epoxy (using stuff, made for Metal), the Sheet Metal "Patch/Piece" into Place, then, Pop Rivet it as well, that way, the Glue/Epoxy, might just "Seal-Out", any "Water or Moisture", from getting Near or Between, the 2 Pieces, of Sheet Metal...don't-cha think...???...(hopefully it will)...................Oh, and, if You haven't already seen..."How to Paint a Car or Truck, with a Roller, using Rustoleum or Tremclad Rust Paint"...maybe check out some Pictures and Websites, oh and also...UA-cam...has quite a few Videos, on it as well.............................Till next time................Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Greetings...Matthew Hamilton..............You're welcome, and thanks for the nice comment..............Here are a few ways, that will prevent Your pieces of sheet, from locking too tightly together, and, will allow that, shall we say, Swiveling/Pivoting action, that You were after, when all's said and done...............I'll start with the Bolt method first..............There is a "Locking" (type of) metal "Nut", that, screws onto, a given size of Bolt, that can be purchased, that has a small, nylon (plastic) "Locking" bushing/ring, that is part of, and at one end of, that Locking (type of) metal Nut, that is an interference fit, with the screw-threads, that are on the Bolt, that will prevent, that Locking (type of) Nut, from backing off/coming loose..............Also, You can just use a Regular Nut, having the screw-threads of the Bolt, cut to length/protruding just past, the end of that Regular Nut, just a little bit, when the bolt & nut are installed, in those sheet metal pieces, and, is also adjusted to, the required clearance, and then, just Mushroom, the screw-threaded end of that Bolt over, with a Hammer, (while having the opposite side, supported with a metal block, while being hammered), so the Nut won't back off/come loose, but, by doing it this way, those pieces of sheet metal, probably, won't be coming apart, any time soon.............You can also use a (soft metal) Wood, type of Common Nail, that, already has a Head, on one end of it (that be the end, that usually gets hit with the hammer), and, just cut its Length, so, it's a bit longer (when installed), and then, just Mushroom (that, cut to length) End over, and "Stop"...!!!...when the required "Clearance" (between the sheet metal pieces) is reached, or, it's probably, gonna end-up, be-in..."Locked-Up"...............If it helps any, and is of any benefit at all, then, You can also put a..."Flat"...Metal..."Washer"...between those pieces of sheet metal, and/or, under the Heads, of the bolt/nut, or, under the homemade rivet's heads, if Your Project will allow it, that is.............So, there You have it, and I hope things work out well for You..............Good luck, and......till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    • @RockysRoadshow
      @RockysRoadshow  10 років тому

      Greetings Wendy Bryant....Thanks for watching, and, for Your comment/question as well....In order for a "Pop Rivet" to make a good, strong and secure "Connection", of "2" or More pieces of something, like Sheet Metal, there are a few things that need to be determined....One of which, is, to make, or have the "Hole" Size, that the Pop Rivet is going through, with the "Minimum" amount of "Clearance", that the Pop Rivet will "Barely" Fit through....The reason being, is that, the End of the Pop Rivet, that gets "Formed", when the, shall we say, "Nail Head Bulged End" gets "Drawn" through the "Unformed" End of the Pop Rivet, "Needs" the "Hole" to be as close as possible to the pop Rivet's (unformed) "Shank" (aka, the part of the Pop Rivet that goes through the hole, before things go "Pop"...lol).
      If, the "Hole", in the "2" or More pieces, that the (unformed) Pop Rivets "Shank" gets inserted into, is Too LARGE, then, Our Friend, that good ole "Pop Rivet", won't (as You say)..."Stick" very well...!!!
      As long as the "Metal" Parts and Pieces, that You want to join together, are "Strong" enough, and are able to withstand the ample Forces, that are placed on those parts and pieces, by the Pop Riveting Process, then, it should be oh-kay.
      There are "Many Different" Sizes, as in, Diameter and Lengths of Pop Rivets, as well as, the Pop Rivets themselves, are also made out of Different "Metals", such as...Aluminum...Steel...Stainless Steel...etc.
      Also, there are quite a few Different "Head Shapes", that are already "Formed" on the "Pre-Formed" End of the Pop Rivet.
      I have used Pop Rivets, that have a Pre-Formed End, that is known as a "Countersunk" Head, that will sit "Flush" (aka, even with the surface of the Sheet Metal), so there won't be a "Bump" sticking up, on the, so called "Finished" side of the project, like is usually found, when using the "Common" type of Pop Rivet.
      If, by chance, You aren't having any success, by Joining Your Jewelry parts together using Pop Rivets, then, You might give something like..."JB Weld" a try.
      "JB Weld", is an Industrial Strength and Quality "Epoxy" like Glue, that works Super Duper on most Metals, as I, and Others have found.
      JB Weld, is a "2" Part Epoxy-like Glue, and, it comes with "2" Small Tubes, that get "Mixed" together, just Before You Apply this Goop to the Metals, that You want Joined Together (just squeeze equal parts from both JB Weld tubes, in the amount required, for the needs of the Project at hand).
      If You happen to Use the JB Weld, make sure, that the Pieces of Metal, that You want to Join together, are, at Room Temperature, Super Clean, Not Greasy, Dry, and also, make sure that the Surfaces that are to be "Bonded" together are "Roughed Up", with something like "Course" (not Fine) Grit Sandpaper, so the JB-Weld, has something to grab onto.
      If You need any more help, I'll be around here somewhere...
      ...Best of Luck.
      Be Safe, Take care, and have a good one.

    Is it always must drill a hole first before pop? Kindly reply back to ASAP...

    • @RockysRoadshow
      @RockysRoadshow  7 років тому

      Greetings...Guan Joon Han..........Thanks for watching..........Yes, You are correct, that, a Hole must be drilled, completely through the parts or pieces, that are to be Pop Riveted together.............The Hole size, should be, just slightly bigger, than, the part (diameter) of the Pop Rivet, that is just under its Pre-Formed Head, cuz, if You make that Hole too Big, then, the Pop Rivet, might not work properly, once it finally goes Pop, and, till next time.......Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

    my rivet isn't breaking. do you think the riveter is the problem?

    • @RockysRoadshow
      @RockysRoadshow  5 місяців тому

      Greetings...babybrazaa..........If your pop riveting tool is like mine, then try this...Try opening the handles of the tool, apart from each other (while also having a pop rivet in the tool), then squeeze the handles together, (two or more times, if need be), and hopefully, by doing so, you'll be able to hear and see the rivet, shall we say, go "Pop"..........The pop riveting tool that I have, works kinda like a ratchet, so to speak, and, you might have to open and close those two handles a few times, in order to pull the pop rivet far enough through the tool, to the point, where lots of pressure is placed on the pop rivet, in order to have that wire -like part of the pop rivet, break-away from the head part of the pop rivet...Good luck, and...be safe, take care, and have a good one.

    Must be a very bad riveter. Mine uses no force at all. Plus it is made to press twice - once for the rivet-pull , the second for the cut.

    • @RockysRoadshow
      @RockysRoadshow  7 років тому

      Greetings...hopscotch30.............Thanks for watching.............Well, the Pop Riveting tool, that You saw in this UA-cam Video of mine, isn't all that bad at all, seeing as how, it only cost me about 15 Dollars some time ago, and it also came with 4 plastic bags, of assorted sizes of aluminum pop rivets as well, as I recall...............My pop riveting Tool's "Handles" are reasonably Long, which, as I see it, would probably help out, in the Leverage/Mechanical Advantage department, as opposed to, a pop riveting Tool, that has quite short handles on it...............The amount of Force/squeezing Pressure, also varies, with the Size & Material, that the Pop Rivet itself, is made out of, alright...............A 1/8 Inch Diameter or smaller, Aluminum pop rivet, is quite easy, to make..."Go Pop".................Now then, the amount of Force Needed, goes Way-Up, when-ever, Increasing the "Diameter" of the Pop Rivet, as well as, oh, let's say, that, the "Material", that the Pop Rivet is made out of, is now "Steel", then, even More (squeezing) Force will be Needed, to make that much Stronger pop rivet, to finally go "Pop", as I have experienced in the past...............I did discover a much easier way, as it applies to the pop riveting Procedure, that I currently use, especially when, I'm using pop rivets, that are Larger in Diameter, as well as, being made of Steel as well, and that, is, as follows...............I just Open the pop riveting Tool's Handles, just a little bit, so the 2 handles aren't too far apart from one another, just before, I start squeezing those 2 Handles together, and repeat this action, till the pop rivet goes Pop, cuz, I found, that, by doing so, it sure doesn't take, anywhere near, as much Force, as it does, as compared to, if I were to Open, those pop riveting Tool's Handles "Far & Wide", that's for dang sure...!!!...(as in, I take nibbles...not...BITES...!!!...lol)..............So, the more, shall we say, "small/short distance" Squeezes, of the pop riveting Tool's Handles, that are taken, per Pop Rivet, then, probably less Force will be needed, when all's said and done, and..........till next time..........Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Larry Ogden Greetings Larry Ogden....Thanks for watching this Pop Riveting, UA-cam video of mine, and for Your comment/question as well......................................................The, shall we say..."Pop Riveting"..."Kit" (that be, what I bought a while back, that included the "Pop Riveting Tool", that also had a few different Sizes of, screw in "Anvils", if You will, and a small "Wrench", to "Install/Remove" those Anvils, all of which, are "Stored" in/on the Pop Riveting Tool itself, and last but not least, a few small plastic "Bags" of Assorted Sizes, of the Regular-looking, Aluminum Pop Rivets), and, there were..."No Back Up Washers"...in this..."Kit"...what-so-ever...!!!...lol.............................................I'm pretty sure, I do know, what You are talking about, when You were asking about the "Where-abouts", of those..."Back Up Washers"..................................................I think that I possibly, have even seen, some those Back Up Washers, on the back-side, of a..."Riveted Together"...man made object, quite some time ago, but I'm not exactly sure, as to where, that I may have seen them..................................................As for this particular, shall we say..."Type, and Size" (in general), of "Pop Rivet", that You see in this UA-cam Video of mine, I have yet to see, a "Pop Rivet", of this nature (and Size, there-abouts), that ever had, like You were saying, a "Back Up Washer", as part of, the Resulting, "Pop Riveted"..."Joint"...after the (pop rivet) went..."Pop"...!!!...................................................Also, if a Person were to Pop Rivet something, where the "Backside" of the "Pop Rivet", happens to be, shall we say, in a "Hidden, or Non-Accessable"..."Cavity", if You will, then, how the heck, would a Person be able to "Place", that there..."Back Up Washer"...on the "Back-Side" of that there..."Never to be Seen on the Back-Side"..."Pop Rivet"...??? (see that?...aren't I clever!...lol)........................................I'm here in Canada, and, maybe, just maybe, perhaps, "Other Countries", might be doing things a bit differently, which might even Include, "Using" those "Back Up Washers", along with some Form of "Riveting" (pop riveting perhaps...???).....................................................I had a Project, a while ago, where I didn't want the "Heads" (that are usually found on the pre-formed End, of the Regular type of Aluminum pop rivet), "Sticking Up" (as in, a bump-like protrusion), on the "Finished Side" of said Project, so, I went and purchased some Pop Rivets, that had, what's usually referred to, as..."Countersunk Heads" (on the pre-formed End of the pop rivets), and also, made out of "Stainless Steel", so they wouldn't "Rust", and, when they were "Installed", they were almost "Flush" (aka, almost Even, and Level with), the "Finished Side" of my "Project"..............................................Those Pop Rivets, that I was just talkin' about, with the "Countersunk" Heads (on the pre-formed, finished end, before they went "Pop"), also..."Never Had Any Back Up Washers"...in the Package, that "They" came in....................................................All in all, it appears that this particular "Cloud", does happen to have, a "Silver Lining", in the form of, something that I was thinkin' about, a very short time ago.................................................Let's see now...Hmmmmm............if I wanted to..."Join"..."2 or More"....shall we say...reasonably..."Thick Sheets of Plastic"...Together....I'm thinkin' that, Thanks to You, as You were asking, about those there "Back Up Washers", that maybe some day, I might be able to make a "Successful Joint" (aka, Joining) of those Plastic Sheets, but there just might be a "Twist" to this "Story", and it goes something like this...........................................Not only, will I be "Putting" a "Back Up Washer" on the "Back-Side" of my "Hypothetical" (at this particular point in time)..."Project's"...Pop Rivet...but as I see it, I will "Also" be Putting a "Back Up Washer" on the "Finished Side" (You know, Under the Pop Rivet's, pre-formed, Finished head) as well...!!!..................Why You ask...???..........................................Well, as I see it..."Without Using the Metal Back Up Washers"...when trying to Join the Plastic Sheets together, I'm visualizing, that when the Pop Rivet/s went "Pop"..."Without the Back Up Washers"...then...the/those darn "Pop Rivets"..."Would probably Not"...make a very "Successful Joint" at all...just sayin'..................................................Thanks again, for Your Great Observation..........................................Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.

      Peter McConnell Greetings Peter McConnell....Thanks kindly, for Your Super comment my Friend!........................................Some, if not most, of the UA-cam Videos that I have made, and hope to make in the Future as well, are, and should be, as I see it, kept as Simple as possible, along with using, just plain and simple English words (language), to Narrate/Explain, the Subject matter, that happens to be, seen and heard, in most of my Videos.............................................From what You were saying in Your comment, well, as far as this Pop Riveting Video is concerned, that is, happens to be, the Exact type of "Feedback" that I was hoping for................................................I recall reading something on a Guitar Magazine cover, in a store, some years ago, and, perhaps, what it was, that I actually read, on the Front of that Magazine (cover), has stuck in my mind, and may be, part of the reason, that my Videos, are done, as they are..............................................................What I saw on that Magazine cover (front one), happened to be, the Four Letters..."KISS"...No-Sir-ee-Bob, not the "Smoo-ching" kind, but rather, those Four Letters...Stood for..."Keep-It-Simple-Stupid" (aka, KISS...), and Hey, call me Stupid if You like, but, never, ever..."Call Me Late For Dinner"...!!!...lol (geeze, I sure do like...Fun Time!)...lol..................................................Now that that's over, back to be-in Serious.......................................................As I see it, by keeping, just about "Anything", as, shall we say..."Simple as can be"...(as in..."K" "I" "S" "S"), should, in itself, reduce the amount of...Confusion...Misunderstanding's...Mistakes...and, I'm using these words, to maybe, better explain, a more Successful way, or manner of Teaching/Instructing, just like I've Experienced in the past, with some of the...Mentors...Teachers...Instructors, just to mention a few, that, have helped me, along the way, and, I can't..."Thank Them Enough"...for, all of the Effort, and Time, that They took, in making sure, that, I had a reasonable Understanding, of, what it was, that, "They", were trying to get me to Learn, and I must say, for the most part, that "They", sure did, a "Mighty Fine Job", that's for sure...!!!...................................................It seems, at times, that..."Words alone, just won't cut it"...but seeing as how, that old saying goes..."A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words"...Imagine now, just..."How Many Thousands of Words, a Video is Worth"...???...Hey, You be the Judge of that one, OK?...lol......................................................Thanks again, my Friend, for Your superb, and, well appreciated comment...................................................Be Safe, take care, and have a good one.
