Hey dude! Just bought a '22 TRD Sport and have watched a lot of your videos. Absolutely love your channel and truck. No BS, and straight to the point. Keep up the great work!
Enjoy the new ride and happy maintaining! Thanks for the kind words, Chief!

I love Cerakote. I put the trim coat on my trim when it was 5 years old. It made it look brand new. Six months later still looks new!
@@donaldstogner9518 I’ve seen some CRAZY good videos on this stuff months and months later. Excited to see how it holds up for me
Man your content is always 1st class! The wife and I did the throttle body and mass air flow cleaning today on our 21 off road. Thanks to your easy to follow content! Your truck looks amazing!
@@simbagizmo555 awesome truck and working together husband and wife is awesome 😎 🍻 thanks for the words!
Thank you for the videos and thank you for your service. Hope you’re enjoying NY. Long Island Toyota group is doing a group ride to Jersey end of this month. Not sure where you’re at upstate but I also do some local trails by my home near Cobleskill. Hope to see you out there!
@@Nackss thank you brother! One day soon I’ll free up 🍻
Mirror. Reminder why TOD explains everything so thoroughly yet so far from wearing the viewer out. Yes, I was "under a rock". Being entertained is just bonus - all the reason for this channel's success in a crowded field.
Happy to hear the kind words, thank you! We will keep on keeping on.

The "roughness" you feel before application is actually contamination embedded in the paint. In order to get the max life and best finish out of ceramic you should ideally chemically and mechanically decontaminate the paint, usually with a clay bar and iron remover. You could follow that up with a 1 or 2 step polish to remove swirls and marring. This will give you the best results. Cerakote is a great coating for a DIYer.
Yep, the long and “correct” way to prep before a ceramic coating. This one was mostly to remain as DIY entry level friendly as possible, but all great points to make!
-Austin
Absolutely gorgeous. Well done. Can’t wait to do my new Tacoma when I get it in a little over a month.
Trim, color, what’s the details? 😎
Cerakote makes great stuff. Beautiful truck btw
@@rmjones15 they sure as heck do
Perfect timing! I got a quote today (same truck and color as you except I have 5 foot bed)...$1600.00! I'm using your link and saving myself $1500.00! Thank you!
@@zoolanderfred ceramic job prices are NUTS these days. put all the prep work in and you’ll get a dang good finish 😎
@@zoolanderfred and for them to want 1600 for a new truck is A CRIME. There next to zero paint or surface work needing to be done. That quote angers me
Hi detailer here, there is a lot more involved than what's shown in this video, or at least there should be. There's a reason why his paint feels rough before the coating, it's needs to be decontaminated. After the wash, you should clay bar the paint, use iron remover to decontaminate the paint, water spot remover the whole truck, polish , yes polish a car even if it's new (I've seen New cars that are right, a lot can happen in the docks or in transport), then a panel prep or in this video alcohol wipe down. Then you get to the wipe down. I did all those processes on a 2022 Tacoma. It took me 8.5hours. the ceramic coating needs a clean naked surface to bond too.
@@skylar1112 if I don’t have scratches or swirl marks to polish, used alcohol for the water spots, didn’t clay bar but did carefully go over for particulates, what is iron remover doing to the clear coat as a step before ceramic? Genuinely curious never heard of iron remover before!
ditto! Just got a quote and will be doing the same. 😂
That turned out great and is an excellent idea to do with such a brand new truck.
If I may once a year I wash my truck with Tide laundry soap then spray the whole thing down with Turtle Wax rapid Decon Let it bleed for a few minutes wash it again dry it apply old school nu-finish wax buff then Turtle Wax ice seal and shine to top and then every three washes or so I recoat with the Turtle Wax ice seal and shine
2oz of your favorite laundry soap mixed with 20 oz of water in a spray bottle is the perfect interior detailer
Ozium carbon black spray keeps that inside, smelling pristine. My 2019 is a white mirror and still smells new
Oh yeah that’s a smooth process. This is the stuff some people pay big money to get done to their trucks that can last years. I’m in the testing phase still but it’s been great for the last week. I hope to get at least a year out of it.
@teamoildrop i hear ya. I might get this cerakote kit and do it then do my wax and spray seal to top. I know I'm major over kill. 🤓
@ Austin will probably chime in at some point, he’s better at these finishes than I am 😎
Looks great!

Sheeesh!! Looks so dang good
@@jonsutubechannel yeah she cleans up nice 😎
Another awesome product is Zaino brothers polymer wax. It’s a long, laborious process; including clay bar, but well worth the effort.👍🏻👌🏻
@@deantrainr how long can it last?
@ definitely not 500 washes however you can put a towel on the finished vehicle and the towel will literally slide off the vehicle. Nice stuff!
@ I’ll give it a look see 👀
@ 🇺🇸👍🏻
I will be very interested to see how well this works in high heat areas like Nevada or Arizona.
@@jonj4419 good question, a black car in Vegas Sun is the test!
Looks like an AI truck in the snow. I’m gonna try it out. I need to do a full decontamination, restore, and cerakote on my 16 OR. 😅
man show us the before and after in the discord!
@ Will do. Gotta ride out this snow/ice storm first. 🥶
@@jonnewbury3482 same. Upstate NY is about to get another blast it seems
4:01 so shiny it looks like a fake truck! That’s crazy!
The 4th gen is a toy spaceship what can I say
Brother, even touchless water wash drive throughs use such high pressure they can quickly deplete coatings.
Fair fair, and the extra chemicals are unnecessary as well. Some of us (me some days) are just too lazy to wash out in the cold driveway 😔 😆
@@wayne7805 I always hear people say this, but all of the ones I’ve used (I’ve used a lot), I get out and I can run my finger down the side and it leaves a clean streak. If they are not getting the road grime off, how is it getting down to the coating layer?
@ right on. I hear you. Cheers 🍻
@ in you case not as powerful as some are.
Love that color
@@GravelLizardKyle this color loves you 🍻
Damn! Having a hard time finding this in Canada. Would love to get my hands on this! Otherwise, I have been using FussoCoat from Soft99, on my previous 2nd Gen and now 3rd Gen. Works fantastic in the Pacific Northwest. (Also need to look into that Dewalt pressure washer)
@@matthewcarino4392 another Canadian commenter said the same thing, if you can find some let me know and I’ll pass to him!
Beautiful.
@@maiderchang8768 🍻
Did you use a clay bar? I hear that gets the grit out before the ceramic
With this being a brand new truck, there wasn’t much paint contamination to remove to begin with. But definitely a recommended step for anyone putting this on anything besides a new vehicle/new paint, it absolutely helps and will remove surface contaminants before coating. Also recommend polishing if you want to remove any scratches or swirls before coating as well.

That ceramic coating is not available in canada? Any links for canada shops? 🙏

I want to try this so bad, I've watched a few vids of people here on YT covering it and showing what it can do. I've got everything and all the know how to apply it correctly, but my poor Taco is outside. The only downside to where I made my Home, is no garage. Being outdoors ya know, I doubt I'd be able to apply it quickly enough in the late Spring/early Summer while the sun is setting and getting it all done before the evening dew hits... But damn do I want to order a bottle and try it out. Looks super good!
@@michaelfabian2401 man I feel you and have been there… do you anyone that would let you have 24hrs in a garage or shop? That’s the key 😎
After the wash would you not want to clay bar the vehicle?
@@medical4855 you most definitely could but I looked it over for particulates and dust after the alcohol bath. If this was black or underground paint I’d be wayyy more meticulous
If you find this doesn’t last as advertised, Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic spray on is AMAZING. It easily lasts 6 months. Hope you do a one year review on this stuff. They do seem to make really quality products!
agree with your recommendation on the turtle product … on a related note, the Project Farm youtube channel did a comparison and the turtle product came out at or near the top if I recall correctly
@ that’s the video that got me to try it! I always thought of Turtle Wax as cheap stuff, but I’m a big fan of the spray.
I’ve got a couple bottles in the garage ha. I’m no stranger to quick spray ons, nu-finish, etc. This sells itself as the professional level stuff some schmucks will fork out $800 or more to be done for any given Sunday
@ I’m on board with it if it can last a solid year!
@@usmc2msu213Cerakote says 500 washes or your money back no questions asked… we shall see
Would it work or look good with a truck that has paint protection film in places?
Yes it is compatible and will look similar even with PPF. The only word of concern is a ceramic coating before PPF is applied, the PPF will have trouble adhering. But it can be put over top of existing PPF with no issues!
-austin
Great company but it’s already been proven amongst professionals that their coating falls short compared to others.
@@stevoeight which ones are better at this price range ? Is there a good comparison video?
