The ending really surprised me, I thought it would be the typical “I lived my life now it’s your turn” and Joe would die. I’m so happy they went the route they did, especially not explaining what Joe would do moving forward.
This is one of my favorite Pixar movies!! I related to it so heavily during the pandemic while I was in grad school and very depressed. I really really needed the message.
The spark is just wanting to live. The enjoy the moment of being alive. Just enjoy the breeze. The food you taste. The people you meet. The music you hear.
I think that "the spark" is just the want of life; wanting to live... and not just being alive, but actually living. That's why they go to the hall of everything so they can experience everything in the hopes of finding the want of life. 😅
This one is full of gems but my favorite is the story of the young fish looking for "the ocean" because the idea of the ocean sounds so grand. But when you're actually in the ocean.... it's just water. So Joe thinks he's not living his dream but what he claims to be in love with is playing music. As a music teacher, he does play music - every, single day. Yet he's unfulfilled because "middle school music teacher" doesn't sound grand. His job IS literally his dream - he is a professional, full-time musician. He just doesn't appreciate it.
Another big thing: Joe was in the zone when he was auditioning, but not when he was actually performing. Meaning even though he was on point and didn't miss a single note, he wasn't actually enjoying himself.
One thing I've always thought about the spark, is that is actually just the will to live. Like what makes you want to try out. With 22 just living through the small daily stuff is what gives her the will to actually wanna try
I went through the comments and didn’t see anybody who explained this, but the barbershop scene is such a quintessential part of black culture. The man in the shop was just roasting him, they didn’t have any real beef. This is my favorite scene of this movie because it fully encapsulates that culture.
well, the scene with the piano where he was seeing memories wasnt really about him realizing about being a teacher. it was about meaning and purpose of life - little things in life matter, not waiting for something big to come and change your life. noticing and appreciating simple, everyday stuff will change your life.
Our purpose is to live A “spark” is simply the desire to live. You can have your dreams, you can have your passions… but don’t confuse your passions with your purpose. That’s my interpretation anyway
Oh god. Y'all watching this movie and the latest update on Jamie Foxx is his family is preparing for the worst. Hope he makes a full recovery. Great reaction as always guys!
Pixar just casually creating art that moves me never ceases to amaze me such a beautiful and impactful film to watch during the heights of the pandemic love the reaction
The concepts and worldbuilding of this movie is incredible. You guys wide eyed when first shown the otherside and as Joe is exploring really emphasized that. Oh and if you dont cry or get misty eyed from a pixar movie you know you aren’t watching a pixar movie
@@tlahmed they certainly thread the needle but this probably their most cerebral adult film given the the themes. Other than a talking cat there’s not much here that kids will latch on to.
@@DatsAhVibe it took me a couple times to appreciate it. It’s not one I’m gonna revisit a lot like if I’m sick or just want something on (coco and luca is my go to for that) but I do like seeing reactions to it
ive been going through a maraton of disney/pixar reactions cause it really helps me get over stuff, idrk if Tis like that for everyone or if im just that simple minded, but must times their movies just reach so deep and i feel like we're talking to each other, actual conversations inside of me. soul is definetely the greatest one of those, i only watch it when im really sinking and seeing you guys reaction i remembered how it felt to see it the first time, is a really silly way of healing, but its still healing.
A little fun fact : In Islam, it is believed that souls already exist before it was put into someone’s womb, we were shown by god what our life would be like and was asked 77x if we wanted to be alive and live in this world, and for that 77x we said yes over and over again, if we refused, we wouldn’t have been put into this body. So if you ever struggle in life, just remember.. your soul knew what could happen and there’s something about YOUR LIFE that matters so much we said yes 77x, it must’ve worth something somehow.
I’m gonna give my honest opinion and say I didn’t really enjoy Soul as much as I would’ve liked. However, I can still appreciate the craft and everything it took to make this movie. It is beautiful.
This is a reaction channel brother and one of the most fun parts of watching a movie for the first time especially with friends is seeing if you can guess what happens next or in the end
@@ReelTimeYT Yes, but it's better to just live in the present, enjoy what will happen and give in the moment responses. How tired are you all in this If I might ask, you guys sound kind of high with those responses. Anyway, good reactions!
The first time I watched this movie, it had me ugly sobbing. As someone who has been struggling with depression for many years, I was so incredibly touched seeing a story about trying to find a reason to live. About realizing that maybe you don't need some grand purpose, some clear-cut goal, some defined meaning of life. That your spark is whatever gives you the strength to get up in the morning and face another day. That your spark is something you keep finding over and over, something that can be found anywhere. That your spark can simply be the appreciation of being alive. It's not an easy message to internalize and definitely not an easy one to convincingly put across, but I think this movie did it brilliantly. I understand why it wasn't very successful, but it will always hold a very special place in my heart.
I had the same reaction watching this for the first time. I've been having trouble for years now and watching this gave me a different perspective. To take in the smaller things in life. Appreciate the slice of pie, sky watching. It helped me so much to start loving how to live. ❤❤ Much love your way and hope you're good!
I’m just watching the reactions years after watching the film, and now it’s hitting so hard. Especially the part about the lost souls wanting to be disconnected. It resonates with my struggle with alcohol. I honestly don’t even want to continue drinking, literally just from hearing that again. Idk how long this feeling will last, but I’m grateful for this movie at the moment
@@Kim-hn5swI hope you are ok! If you're willing to quit, it's hard, but you can do it! I've been sober now for 11+ years, I needed help. We have to be aware of ouselves forever, but it is the best choice for sure and what makes everything else possible 💜
This film was not a great success just because people don't always understand such things correctly. But it is worth understanding that if you understood what this wonderful film wanted to tell you, then it will be important and of great importance to you. Remember this.
Neat little thing you could miss: When Joe shows 22 his memories, there's one where he's sitting in a diner with a piece of pie, looking dejected, making you think it's a sad memory. But when Joe's at the piano and we see that montage of memories, we see the diner scene again, and we find out it was actually a happy memory, despite not starting out so great. It's like the hockey memory in Inside Out. It started off sad, but because of her friends and the team, it turned happy.
40:05 'Maybe regular old living IS just the purpose' Exactly!!!! You don't need a grand purpose to justify your existence! You existing is inherently enough!
I was like why does Zuff look so different than I noticed he shaved, he looks so much younger hahah. Also I loved the message behind the movie, I didn’t think it was their best movie but it’s a good watch once in awhile
So happy you guys got to experience this movie. To see the shift in your awareness was beautiful. Just like 22 living thru Joe. I felt like I got to live thru you guys and experience this for the first time again. Loved everything you had to say. Love your reactions. Just love all around
So glad you guys reacted to this! Such a beautiful movie, I sobbed my eyes out when I first watched this. I do wonder how kids respond to this film. Such a great message and so important to remember. Thanks again for your video!
That timing though! I’ve been watching reactions to this all day (also because it’s my younger one Liana’s first birthday today!) and then refreshed and this was posted right after I came back from having somewhere to go! But loved this and well said, smart ones, and agreed and this movie is one of my favs! And agreed, hope 22 enjoys the life in Nepal or Bhutan or Tibet (or china or India) Have a good one, guys!(:
Some of the music in the afterlife areas really reminded me of the stuff from the game Tetris Effect. 22 sounding like a middle-aged white lady is a joke because she is voiced by Tina Fey lol
First, great reaction. Second, I love the idea/concept of this film, the animation is great as always, & the music is beautiful. That said, I’ve tried to watch this movie on 3 separate occasions & I’ve fallen asleep all 3 times. There’s something about it that doesn’t engage me thoroughly enough to keep my interest through out. I have finished it, but I’ve had to like go back, rewind to where I last remembered, & then finish it off. & it’s very hard for me to admit that considering how much of a Disney/Pixar fan I am. But this one just doesn’t do it for me like others have, & I’m not really sure why.

Pixar somehow finally managed to answer the question "What is the meaning of life?"
To live.
Thats the irony of it in my opinion the hardest question to answer has the simple solution.
The ending really surprised me, I thought it would be the typical “I lived my life now it’s your turn” and Joe would die. I’m so happy they went the route they did, especially not explaining what Joe would do moving forward.
Killing the main protagonist isn't something typical for Disney/Pixar
