He pitched a no hitter for the Yankees in 1993. To this day, he serves as a reminder that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

In 1998 I had write a report for an exam in 5th grade. I wrote it about Jim Abbott! He was so inspiring as I was always the smallest kid on my baseball team. He’s a treasure.

Jim Abbott has been a hero of mine since his Michigan days. I missed an opportunity to watch him pitch against the White Sox during the last year of Comisky Park. I also missed an opportunity to see one of his speeches several years ago. Man, I'd love to meet him one day!

the glove flip to his hand has to be the coolest thing about jim abbott. the fact he can pitch and then quickly flip the glove to catch the ball. PLUS, let’s be honest, being a beast pitcher AND dominating against some other greats is also a feat. another great video! 😀

I remember reading a book about Jim as a kid, I can't remember the name, but it was as inspiring as him. Thanks pal!

I was at this game in 93, I was 8 years old with my father. What a memory. I didn't understand baseball very well then but man that inspired me beyond belief as a young man.

Love that they thought his occasional poor games were due to his arm. When there have probably been 200 two-armed pitchers with exactly the same records. Great story and thanks.

Bunting when your only purpose is to bust up the no-no is disgusting. If it's a 1-run game, no outs, runner on, bunt like cray.

Jim Abbot is the perfect Hatbilly player, always rooting for the underdog. I caught the end of his career and, strangely, wasn't all that impressed with a one handed pitcher (I was a dumb kid). I respect the man so much more now. Oh, and bunting at any time is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

I don't really have any issues bunting in ANY situation of a no-hitter. Think about how silly the gripe is: "let me keep dominating you, don't adjust, that's not fair!!" ... that's what it boils down it. It weirdly places bunting as inferior or weak to do and you should instead just resign to your fate of being no-hit. It's a tough look when you really break it down.

"most patient and understanding" - LOL. Man I hate the yanks!! I was fan of Abbots, great story. I just wish he had the no-no somewhere else.

This was released one day after three Detroit Tigers combined for a no-hitter. Somehow, I think Abbott's will be remembered longer.

Bunting to disrupt a no hitter? Kenny Lofton deserves to be hit by pitch for the next several games he play.. Low dirty tactic!

Bunting depends on the score and the batter. If it is a 1-0 or 2-0 game and it is within reason that the batter would have bunted if the score was 4-3 or 3-1... then I dont see how anyone could have a problem with it. 4-0 is stretching it BUT that was a huge part of Loftons game and leading off the inning and needing baserunners... You play to win the game.
