Adam, you asked about how long the Dems have been insane, so I will tell you my personal experience. I was born and raised in SoCal in the 1970s to semi-hippy parents in a very liberal family with pro-union grandparents. I noticed the liberal disconnect with reality when Reagan became president. I was in high school, but I was old enough to remember the 1970s gas lines, my parents struggling to get by, and how worried they were by inflation. I remember the news freaking out when Reagan was elected, and I remember being worried about it and how it would impact my parents. However, it soon became clear that the world didn't end and that my family and all of our friends were doing much better financially, it seemed that everyone was doing better, yet the news and a lot of adults still acted like he was destroying the country. This confused me so I started trying to make sense of it, which lead me to start paying more attention to politics, reading more history, and noticing how the "live and let live" left were becoming dogmatic, these were NOT the hippies I grew up with. I noticed that the left became completely unwilling to compromise on anything and everything they did do seemed more like a punishment to Americans or to corporations than about actually solving any problems. It's been all downhill from there, and I fled California in 2006. *sigh*
Note: I originally registered as a Republican, but switched to Independent when the Republicans started going off the rails with the "moral majority" in the 1990s. I was hoping that the Dems might become a viable option eventually, but they just got worse and worse and now they are just actually insane.

grew up through SoCal's education system during the 2000's (born in the 90s), and it was made very apparent to me through them that some groups were implied to be better than others. Around the end of my public school years, I was effectively told to "accept or yield".
I only have my folks to thank, giving me the understanding of my own nature to fight back. Got the official who threatened me fired, and my dignity set. I may have lost almost all my friends (who believed said official's lie that I hated certain groups), but I gained a dignity I wouldn't trade for anything.
The Democrats have tried putting me under their boot before I could even vote. You can imagine my stance on politics with research in politics, history, and human nature. Fully agree.

He said "current system of capitalism". He's right. It has a name, it's Corporatism. USA forgot to infuse Adam Smith Capitalism into its system, and now the unhinged extreme form of it, Corporatism, has taken over street, mind, body, and even your government which is the worst case scenario; as an ideal system is that the Government and Corporations should have a balanced distribution of power and check each other's recklessness, without being allowed to subvert one-another. The later is to be helped by banning lobbying, banning Congress, Judges, and higher echelon from engaging in speculation and share transfer during term, and their family. AKA remove basic rights from Politicians and cease categorizing Politicians as Humans or indeed entitled to many basic Human rights. They are a special class of people with a heavy responsibility, and that should reflect in treating them hundreds of times more stringently and mercilessly than the average civilian, while the scare factor should ensure that only those willing to sacrifice rights become politicians as a filter.

From what I remember from Nick Rekieta's stream, the Kim Potter jury was given instructions that didn't represent the law on one key issue. Reckless disregard, which is legally the bar that had to be met for the manslaughter charge, has to involve some conscious disregard, which Potter didn't have because it was clearly a case of 'slip and capture'/'action error', where she truly believed she was firing her taser (which isn't as ridiculous as it appears at a surface level); but apparently they were told that she'd be guilty with mere negligence, with no need for the conscious disregard component.
That said, juries by design have some unspoken permission to effectively ignore some aspects of the law as written, but it's not clear that they would have convicted her on that general moral intuition. For the jury to be given such misleading instructions is a miscarriage of justice. It may or may not be an appealable issue, not sure. Technically her lawyers did have some opportunity to contest this issue with the instructions while they were being drafted, if they caught it.

@@libertariansasquatch I think the issue isn't so much understanding the concepts but misinterpreting/misapplying them. Experts from the school would generally be the people to talk to about the theories contained in it and might be able to clear up any sort of misunderstandings or improper applications.
Its kind of like training alone. A personal trainer can help you correct your form to ensure that you're do the exercise right rather than ingraining mistakes. Same applies with any sort of weapons training.

@@libertariansasquatch No, it's just annoying that he talks crap about the Austrian School all the time, but I've never seen him bring on an expert or even high profile proponent to talk about it. He just always uses "I talked to some people on twitter and they seem unreasonable" as evidence. I'm not even a hard core Austrian or anything I just think there's some value to the school, but he talks about it like the Austrians are all intellectual dwarfs or religious fanatics, because they don't like his economic religion MMT. I've seen many people recommend a lot of Austrian experts, and youtubers etc. to have a conversation about MMT and he just acts like it's not worth it or just ignores it. If the Austrians are really so dumb, it should be easy to make them look bad in a discussion, right?

@@libertariansasquatch Also, I think you are misunderstanding "school" in this context. When people refer to the "Austrian school", they're referring to a school of thought, not a specific institution. An analogy would be if someone was constantly railing against socialism, and someone made the criticism that that person talks negatively about the ideology often, but isn't specific in their criticism and has never made an attempt to discuss it with a proponent of that discipline. That person could be correct in their position (socialism is a poor ideological basis for a system of government), and the criticism of their approach and lack of intellectual rigor pertaining to the subject would still be accurate.
