    Zac Paris still makes the BEST decals on the market! I grabbed one of the newer Kenner Classics Ecto 1's at a garage sale for $10 and used Zac Paris decals to make it an Ecto 1A!

    Lighter Fluid is your friend when removing old stickers and sticker residue, something Toy Polloi does all the time 🤘, also I guess anyone who picked up an ecto 1 reissue could just order the 1A stickers from Zac Paris and do a very easy mod 🤔

    Just my opinion... I would have removed all the old stickers and replaced them with clean vintage or really good reproductions like the one you linked to. Old nasty looking stickers don't look good and cleaning around them makes the overall car look worse......

      I totally get it, it’s personal preference. For me, I want to keep as much original as possible. New stickers on old plastic, never completely sits right for me, but I totally get that’s all personal preference and taste. 😊

      I agree with David, but I also see your point.

    I think I'm going to make one of these. I'm using a Kenner classics ecto, some ZacParis labels, and a roof rack from Charlie's custom toy shop. I'm probably also getting a pack rack for the rear of the vehicle from charlies as well.

    I dig the old stickers. It has lived and survived to be in good hands with neat upgrades. ... Just like an old car. Sure you can clean it all up, restore it and put on a new paint job, but you are also kinda removing the history and its story. That makes it kinda unique and not looking like every other top restoration which look like clones.

      Thank you Tristian, those are 100% my feelings as well!

    Nice job on the restore! $40 is a great price. I'm in the market for a 1A as well so hopefully I get lucky.
    Edit: if you ever wanted to age the newer stickers there are a few options. You can burn a piece of paper under a big glass jar and leave the sticker inside to absorb the smoke and it should turn yellow. Also a wash with amber colored sealer works but can be disastrous if your not careful.

      Thanks Peteydubs! I was lucky the pictures were poor and it was not a great description. So I think it flew under the radar. Great tip on aging the stickers!

    I’ve been looking to restore my original Ecto 1 but was weary of the replacement stickers coming all the way from down under but you touched on that and I’m good to go. Plus I might pick up that 3D add on.
    Thanks for the upload you’re a true champion!

    What he should have done is have the "We're Back" be one solid piece with the black part in between the words. That would have been better than the original individual stickers of the original.

    • @GeekDadLife
      @GeekDadLife  4 роки тому

      That’s a really good idea, I’d like them to do that!

    Epic! Yes it looks so much better with the rack. Too bad the signs broke. Shipping to Canada was crazy expensive! Wondering if the red bumper can be attached without removing the car shelve? Check out our Ecto 1 restauration we went all out on it lol

    I can't wait for the new Hasboro Kenner Ecto 1 rereleases!!!!!! It will be so nice to be able to buy a nice, brand new, fresh clean ECTO without having to take out a 2nd mortgage, lol. I can't wait to see that box & package 😍👻🚫

    beautiful work! the only flaw of the kenner's ecto is that there are only two seats, I'm tempted to recover it for the mattel figures, I know it is not in perfect scale, but I need an ecto! The last hope is Habro!

    • @GeekDadLife
      @GeekDadLife  4 роки тому +2

      Given the success of the hasbro stuff, I think theres hope! I never thought of adding an extra row of seats to the Kenner Ecto, I'd like to see a more enterprising customizer pull that off!

    Hi! Is the year on the bottom of the car 1984 or 1989? I heard that the Ecto 1 is always 1984 and the Ecto 1a is 1989. I would like to know if that is true, but I don't know anyone with an original Ecto 1a. Thank you

  • @chrisgregory8073

    Do you have a video of repairing an Ecto-2? I bought one today that has the seat belt broken and missing front wheel column. Fortunately I picked up a donor that has both. I would just put the accessories from the broken one on the donor BUT its hook mechanism works great and the donor one retracts poorly. I need to know how to safely pull off the front wheel and how to take apart to transfer the seat belt.

    even the really rough ones are going for a high dollar amount. I passed up on one that is listed with an opening bid of $38, with a buy it now price of almost $70, missing doors, chair, fins, and looks like the windshield plastic had been melted, with some minor scorching on the front.

    • @bandittweintraub
      @bandittweintraub 2 роки тому

      **UPDATE** I did find one, missing chair and ghost. but yellowed slightly.

    Why not just replace all the stickers it would make it so much cleaner.

    • @GeekDadLife
      @GeekDadLife  4 роки тому +1

      I wanted to keep as much of the original stickers as possible, since more and more will fall off or people will replace all of them. There may be few all original Ecto-1As in the future. The inner historian in me wanted to keep them, but I totally get it replacing them all looks cleaner 😊

    • @berniedavis6676

    I feel like i’m watching an actual car restoration, as you, like a car restorer, are trying to keep it as original as possible. Replacing what is absolutely knackered (google that) keeping what still works and making the best version that can be made

    • @GeekDadLife
      @GeekDadLife  9 місяців тому +1

      That's exactly my approach, glad you picked up on that :)
