I would think the last unfinished car would be a great candidate for an ultra-realistic model... Chrome the bumpers, detail paint the interior/exterior to make it look like the movie car. You could even get 4 proton packs from this line and repaint them to look like they did in the movies and create a pull out rack to place them on in the back. 3-D printing is awesome and once you design/print it and then add paint it could be incredible. Add some working lights (which Ive seen done for this toy) and this could be one of the coolest Ecto-1's ever done.
trekguy31 Cool idea. These cars weren't mine though. The owner made one Ecto 1 and one Ecto-1A restoration and made a custom 'concept' black Ecto with the 3rd. Thanks for watching!
I had to respray my ecto 1, I stay in Scotland & don't get a lot of sun. I used straight to plastic paint, you don't need to use primer, just strip it down to the shell & give it a coat & leave for an hour then re coat . It came out great just need a sticker set, chair & claw

Gen1 Red Alert Thanks! There is a paste option but I don't like to use it because if you don't apply it perfectly even on all surfaces you can end up with a swirl effect. This method provides an even coverage. Thanks for watching!
Great video Bert! I actually Retr0brighted mine a few years ago, but the process was different; it was a mix of Peroxide and the Oxy stuff you put in the wash, made into a paste and rubbed all over. Then put it out in the sun. It kinda sorta worked, but the key word here is sun. I live in England. Sun is a premium product here! I might give it another go using your method. Next year. If we see the sun. I also have a second Ecto-1 I always intended on making into 1A, those two there look wonderful! Where did you get the replacement stickers? And thanks for mentioning that marker, I can finally, after the best part of 30 years, cover the black sprue marks in my chrome ST three ships set! Thank you so much!
Models Ex Inferis Thanks! I don't like to use the paste methods because if you don't apply it perfectly even on all surfaces you can end up with a swirl effect. This method provides an even coverage. Yes, sun and warmth are key! The stickers and the 3-D printed top are all from ebay. Thanks for watching!
@Models Ex inferis... how did your ectos turn out? i want to give this a go myself this way if i can find the right stuff he used, also, i agree with sun and warm, its iffy and unpredictable here in uk, i wanna get the stuff then when we are forecast good weather, do it
After removing the three screws from the chassis, can you recommend the best way to remove the body from the tail light clips without force? (I'm scared I'll break it).
Oof...Not really. There's a very specific angle it has to come out at, you have to feel it out and be careful. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Do the bodies have to be completely submerged underwater or will the fumes do the trick? In my bin about 1/2 is sticking out cuz it had to go in sideways
I have heard that if it's properly sealed even the non-submerged parts will still whiten, but I have not tried that, I always submerge completely. Thanks for watching!
AMOVIEGUY14 Yes, you have to to remove the wall. Word of caution, it's not meant to be disassembled and something usually breaks when you try. In my case, one of the supports for my front wall broke. Fortunately the wall was already broken and being replaced with the one shown in this video. Thanks for watching!
A Guy Stuck In The US Yes you can but be careful with the colors. Red WILL fade and be ruined. I usually just stick to white and gray parts. Thanks for watching!
Incredible work, my original ecto1 is very much like the one you had that was most yellow, so i REALLY want to bring it back to life as i have all the doors etc in good condition other than been yellowed over time. Im in uk so need to see if i can get this solution that you used too. Im abit nervous too of taking it apart lol, was it easy enough to do?
Most of it is pretty straight-forward except removing the bottom frame from the body. It has to be done at an angle and in a way that is hard to describe. You'll see it when you get to it, just be careful and don't apply too much pressure, work it out slowly. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper ok great thank you, will give it ago at disassembling it once i can get the correct solution i need. was the body of the most yellow ecto left in the solution for the full week and does it matter if its hot or cold water u use ? thanks again
I used cold water out of the hose, but I live in FL and it got warm during the day while it sat in the sun. You want to make sure it's well covered and sealed so you create a "greenhouse" effect.
Bert The Stormtrooper yeah but you’ve got a shit load of water in the container and you’ve poured like a litre of peroxide in ???? That’s not 50/50 lol
In the middle of an ecto 1 restoration and all I need now is the gunners chair and a new chassis since mine is broken where the mechanism sits in for the claw if you have any spares I'd love to trade or something
@@BertTheStormtrooper that's cool thanks for doing these restorations it's a whole other side to collecting that most people dont try when its usually fairly easy stuff
Hi! Is the year on the bottom of the car 1984 or 1989? I heard that the Ecto 1 is always 1984 and the Ecto 1a is 1989. I would like to know if that is true, but I don't know anyone with an original Ecto 1a. Thank you
Yo i think that ecto with the red scape is the one i had sold like 6 years ago on ebay. :o could be wrong as heck, but looks a lot like the one i sold in a lot. I had 3 of em.
