I wonder if some stone texture spray paint on the foamboard before you put on the card might make up for not having the granny grating. In general, I love how your videos show how to get something that will make for cool battles without much investment at all.
I think you could do a textured spray, or even cover it in stippled mod podge and paint, and maybe go for a more rusted look. I went for basically pristine, which might not fit every board. And thanks, if I was to try and sum up the chasnnel at the moment, that would be what I am trying to do, I want people to think "I can do that" and actually do it!
Very effective! I don't have storage space for terrain at the moment, otherwise I'd actually make this (with the depot pattern thing as the can look is a bit too noticeable), less nice than Wyloch's but *much* quicker to make, and more modular too. For the railings, the racket thing could also be used for this easily. And the tops are begging for some bits, guns, cranes or something.
Yeah I sort of see this as the outline of the concept. I could have done the card on the cans but really the platforsm mostly cover them when you are stood up looking fown.
This is awesome! You have been very good at using foam board to make what you want. I have seen you work with EVA foam for the modular street and sidewalk. Have you ever worked with XPS foam board?
Thank you so much for making these videos. The 3rd I was told I had covid and had to quarantine so well being sick and mindlessly scrolling youtube I stumbled onto 40k videos and it really kept me going. I got the elite edition starter box and I cant wait to make some of your terrain. Thanks again. I will definitely be joining the patreon.
There's never any pressure to join the patreon , but obviously happy if people do. And i guess something good came out of something bad, hope you are fit and back to full health now!
Hotly anticipated, and you have given me some more ideas for how I want to handle this for my new table that is taking shape. If you want to go with magnets, I would avoid the sheet magnets as they are very weak, but I've been buying up itty bitty neodymium magnets recently on amazon for 10 dollars for a few hundred in different sizes. In the interest of getting a bit more texture on the platforms for painting, you could try either cutting through the card and exposing the foam in places, or giving it a thin layer of that filler stuff? Also... NO OSHA IN STAR WARS!!!! :D
Sure, I agree on the magnets. I could have made it work, but this method was just easier. And you are right about texture. So many things I could do, but just wanted to get this system out there.!
Put a fresh blade in the knife. And for foam board you want to slice it as much as you can. So start away from board and Alice into it. Clean slice rather then tearing it.
@@TerrainMadeEasy There is a kind of can opener that cuts through the roll of metal that holds the lid on to the sides of the can. It leaves a super smooth edge, and bonus, the lid can snap back on the can. I did have to get it at a kitchen gadget store, but what is not bleeding worth to you? :D i use it for cat food... My precious fur babies can't get booboos from tuna!
4:35 ... I take my "stones" and hot glue them to the can ... o,O that does not sound particularly pleasant Thanks for a great vid. many thanks for showing and please keep up the good work
Awesome job! I tried to make Wyloch's method but my draftsman's skills were lacking. Your method is much kinder. One question... Heinz sells soup?!? Here in the US Heinz is famous for catsup. Is it catsup soup? Do the French make fun of your catsup soup? And if you don't get the last joke watch the movie Hudson Hawk.
Sadly I do not get the joke! They do all kinds of soup, I just had tomato soup? Apologies. And yeah, I think Wyloch's walkways look better right, but there's certainly less maths and measuring in this style!
Some great design ideas and concepts here. However for me personally I think that the final display looks just a tad too cheap. The cans and the bottle top are just too obvious :P I wonder what could be substituted to make it looks more fancy, or what could be done to better hide the materials used? Definitely some great inspirations to be taken away from this though as is how it is with the majority of your content. Take care dude and I look forward to more videos.
So for time saving in the video, I couldn't go into everything. The solution for the bottle tops would be to use something else! Either like a milk cap or you could even use a mini cid, to keep the profile low, anything will do. For the can, I have the fuel depot can design, which would help but take more time. It's designed to be an easy and versitile piece of terrain, it does compromise on quality a little for that.
@@xCriticalStrikex You might also want to look at scrap gears and pulleys to cover the cap. Me personally, I'd 3d print a custom gubbin, but I also realize I am a hammer and to me, the world is made of nails that need 3d printing. As for disguising the soup cans? Wrap them in card stock and cut designs out of it.
Agree on the iconic look of the soup-cans. You could clad them in thin cardboard or even xps-foam. Maybe a second an third dovel, straw or tube (look for "Stangenrohr" - I couldn't find a good translation) on the outside of the core-structure to simulate supply shafts. To pimp the end-cap put something on, a radio-dish, a statue ormiddle sized (techno)skull. You could also build another soup-can-structure from xps-foam, break it in two and add some of the pieces on your top platform to indicate that the structure used to be many levels higher.
YES, love the octagons, wish I had done more non-square geometry in mine.

I agree about the granny grating being over used. Yours looks great without it.
I like granny grating, but I already have a lot of common materials so wanted to leave it out.
Well, now you have black grass... :P Very nice work. Keep on the good work. Best regards and thank you so much for this project.

Might be an idea to make those conector pieces as one long strip that you can chop up
Heh you are aboslutely right, heh silly me :)

Great video mate. These look awesome.
Thank you very much!
Turn the can opener 90 degrees and cut on the outside of the can instead of the top and it leave a much cleaner edge
eeep is that not then a bit sharp also? I think for this build I wouldn't as we hide the inside, just being careful should mean you don't get cut.

Why the hate for triangles? 😱

I love triangles, equalatral triangles are dope, isoseles, I mean well isosceles are great. Don't get me started on the right angled.

Nice job! I already made some of Wylochs variant but these look really good as well. I might build a set of these that hook into those though.
I relaly like Wyloch's. I think this version is sort of like a simpler, less mathmatical version. But they both look good I think!
What design would you have preferred for the platform instead of the octagon?
Maybe a 6 sided one? Or even square maybe. I actually don't know, the octagon has grown on me since. I now just wish I added extra details etc.
