  • In this video, I'm going to be building warhammer 40k terrain out of junk soda cans. This terrain is great for 40k, but it can also be used for other tabletop wargames that take place in a sci-fi setting such as Stargrave or Necromunda.

    Very creative as always. When can we expect the storefront to buy some of the items you make on the channel?

    Here's a tip for building terrain pieces from "junk". If hollow like cans and such before enclosing them put some sand or kitty litter inside the hollow part, don't have to be full, the addition of the filler will give the pieces some wieght to help them from being easily bumped around the table while you play, and I feel the extra weight makes them seem like they're made of better quality.

    • @OkayHobbyTime

      Great idea if extra weight is needed-thanks Thomas!

    Yet another awesome build simple yet effective!!! Adding the moss to industrial builds is something you don’t see yet it definitely adds character to the terrain piece!
    Keep up the good work 👍

    I've been using cans to make very cheap urban fantasy towers and walkways for about a month now
    Nothing as refined as these beauties, but I'm only just starting out

      That's awesome. These cans are surprisingly versatile!

      @@OkayHobbyTime and they're all exactly 5" tall, consistent for modularity, but that's also the height of some necromunda stuff, so they're great for kitbashing

    Not sure about the moss alone, it looks a bit lost/ out of place. Maybe with more vegetation like vines it would look better. Quite good video though.

      Thank you! I have some ideas for vegetation incorporation that I'll show in future videos. I've been playing around with some of your 3D printed parts for other projects. Thanks for sharing your work with the community-it's all so great!

    Why do all these trash terrain vids use 3D printed parts kinda beats the point of trash terrain if you can afford a 3D printer

    • @OkayHobbyTime
      @OkayHobbyTime  2 роки тому +3

      With the rise in popularity of 3D printers, this hybrid approach to terrain building is becoming a great combination of quality and cost to a lot of people. Don't sweat it if you cant print these parts, though. Without a printer, I'd recommend XPS foam for the bottom portion and card stock for everywhere else. Thanks for watching!

    Terrain is probably the most underestimsted use for a 3d printer, just making bits like this levels the piece up ten x. Well done!

      Thanks! I always like adding 3D printed bits to my builds. It takes things to the next level and prevents things from looking too "homemade".

    I working on these cans as we speak, I have a question. Does that glue really hold the resin pieces in place? And would you recommend filling the cans with something before glueing on the ends? I am a bit worried about durability

    • @OkayHobbyTime
      @OkayHobbyTime  2 роки тому

      Nice, glad to hear. Wood glue does a great job at bonding the pieces, as long as you let it dry. I did one side at a time, leaning the can up so gravity worked in my favour. A hot glue gun would also work. These would dent like a normal can if they were squeezed hard (I haven't had any issues so far). For more durability I'd recommend filling them with sand. Something that wouldn't rattle around inside.

    Did you have any problems with the paint cracking when the can flexes

    • @OkayHobbyTime
      @OkayHobbyTime  11 місяців тому

      No issues so far. They became quite stiff after being painted in a few coats of paint. I still wouldn't try squishing them though. Filling them with something before sealing them up would be a good way to prevent any issues.

      The cans are the biggest part of these builds. I wouldn't worry about the 3D printed bits. They're cool but could easily be substituted with cardboard to cover up the holes and create legs. Thanks for watching!
