Jerry Rice knocked out of the game before the end of the opening drive. Two massive hits, right to his head. Concussion. Out on his feet. Out of the game, never to return. Brent Jones also forced from the game 1st quarter, never to return. The 49ers roll up a staggering 598 yards of total offense. And Steve Young manages to do all this without Jerry Rice and also without Brent Jones. Ridiculous!! Never in the entire 1992 season, including the playoffs and the Super Bowl, did the Bills even come close to giving up as many as 598 yards on defense to any other team. The 49ers passed for more yards by far than any other team against the Bills that whole year. And the 49ers even ran for more yards than any other team against the Bills that whole year. Remember, these astouding 49ers offensive yardage figures were put up with no Brent Jones (0 catches for 0 yards) and almost no Jerry Rice (3 catches for 26 yards before his concussion on the opening drive of the game). After the game, angry Buffalo linebacker Darryl Talley said of Steve Young, "He's sixty minutes of hell! You have to cover the whole field, and then he still scrambles away from you."
