I remember the 2000-02 Giants fondly, they were a great and EXASPERATING team. Shockey was just awesome in his rookie year. Amani Toomer was a league leader, always top 5 in yards and receptions. Up front, I didn't know about Line play yet, had no way to rewind, so all I knew was Strahan was great.

That and I got to feel bad for the Giants kicker Matt Bryant too as he was also the kicker for the Falcons in SB 51. To be on the losing end of two major collapses in a playoff game has got to be nothing short of traumatic.
Agreed; I hate infamy. The Giants Collapse was a total team effort. In all closest games, there's a dozen moments when making a play, a block, a tackle, a pass batted down, could have changed the outcome. During a true Epic Collapse; for a long stretch you can't score, can't get 1st downs, and can't stop the other team from 1st downs and scoring, so every player feels responsible. Never do you get an epic collapse where the losing team has players who were playing lights out all game long. Like say a Patrick Lewis level LB played great, lights out on 64 snaps and then fucked up on 1 snap can't get off a block missed the run fit out of position which led to a 50 yard TD run for the comeback team. But if it didn't happen in the final seconds its forgotten by everyone but himself; He will forever blame himself for the loss.
Yeah I hated it, but 2 Superbowls later when they released this, I could enjoy it, its just a really great game. Besides 2002 Giants, we're not getting past 2002 Bucs; we'd have probably lost to the hated Eagles. That was a tough rivalry early 2000's Eagles and Giants.
I remember I had my eyes covered heading into that last play, because I was just an emotional wreck (12 years old and a Giants fan). Then I peeked and saw Matt Allen running with the ball, and just bugged out. By the way, he could not have spiked the ball. It's a rule that you can't spike it unless you take a snap from under center; it would've been intentional grounding. He would've had to fall down and kill the play, take their last time out.
I bet I know what you said in January 2012 "Redemption!, though it felt like you were watching a parody of the '90 NFC Championship game with Kyle Williams playing Roger Craig.
Lol, I'm not sure I was really thinking about the '02 game then, to be honest. In '07 against the Packers, absolutely, but I felt fairly confident after the OT Kyle Williams fumble in '11.
@@joesakic91 Kyle williams muffed 2 punts in the shadow of the goalposts, the first led to TD to go ahead 17-14. the 2nd in OT led to Game losing FG. Greg Roman does NOT deserve any blame. Before Roman, Alex Smith is a total draft bust. Roman is sole reason Kaep was unleashed in 2012 in an option heavy offense almost nobody stopped until the SB. And the 2013 Seahawks needed a comeback.
@Jeremythegent - I was in my early 20's; drinking a lot of beer for weed drymouth, didn't curb the increasing anger the playoff party was feeling. So many targets, TO, Shaun Williams, Fassel, Strahan jinx point, fucking MAKE A PLAY STRAY!
I feel like the only reason 49ers let mariucci go was to try and keep TO. Considering what happened they should of just traded TO after that season and kept mariucci and Garcia.
100% agree. Expensive #1 WRs were overrated, count the rings TO, Moss, Ocho, Megatron had. You need two good WRs, one amazing one doesn't create offense, use a safety and corner and its a wrap. A 35 mill WR leaves no cap left for WR 2-3, TE1, or Solid Offensive line and run game. So your offense still sucks. Then they turn into problems. I don't know what it is about the position that turns men into asses.
What would have happened if Marriucci had stayed and T.O. Was the one who left? I can’t and perhaps won’t have sympathy for the Giants blaming Junkin for the botched play when they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Oh yeah, the whole thing is a total collapse, nearly everyone on that defense has a play they could have made that would have changed the outcome. And those huge penalties on 3rd and a mile. "Focus or Fuckus" - Tiki Barber.

I Hated it too. SO much. But we totally got the better of the Niners in the Postseason. 1985 17-3; 1986 TOTAL blowout, 1990 We ended the 3pete Dynasty, 2011 we beat them in a close Championship game in the worst way! They were the stronger team in every way, beat us up, and we won with 2 scores on fluky special teams fumbles. THATS much worse the 2002. 1990 and 2011 hurts a shit ton more, when you're the favorite to win it all, and favored to win by a TD or more in a conference Championship game, you lose....to the team that went on and WON the Superbowl you and much of the public thought was yours back in November and December.
I HATED the Niners; because 1980's Dynasty I had to suffer through as a Giants fan...So I was unable to appreciate their 2011-2012-2013 squads when they happened; although looking back now Im glad I have a decent number of their games condensed. Only the greatest games of entire league here: ua-cam.com/play/PLbGLzzomCfA5npQeb0jTnkevd_2UmV-FA.html The 2019 Kyle Shanahan Niners; I love watching, I got over it. I don't care if they win more Superbowls, get to 6, 7, fuck it, the Patriots need to be overshadowed. The Kyle Shanahan Niners are my favorite kind of team: POWERFUL, up front, Run it all over everyone with their O line, Defense built all on D line, sacks QBs and eats the run. Familiar? Fuck yeah. But; its also innovative on offense; what dumb people used to call 'finesse' , to describe any team scoring lots of points, regardless of how strong they were.
@@WalterWhiteFootballSharing I don't hate the 9ers but I am not a fan of them. I was not alive during the 80s Montana/Rice San Fransisco dynasty. That game pissed me off so much, as a 15 year old kid, I wanted to hunt the Officials after the game. The worst part was, the league said the Refs were at fault
Mariucci;s quote the following day after the NFL admitted the refs blew the call is epic "Bummer" LOL Though the 9ers had no business coming back into this game, the Giants screwed themselves by giving up a 20 point lead and those defensive players like Shaun Williams melting down in the final stretch's in the game and giving up free yards to an offense they could not stop in the 2nd half.
As a 49ers fan, I totally agree with you. My Niners absolutely had no business winning that playoff game which I was there in person great comeback but it really should have never come down to that final play of the game and the players on the Giants completely self-destructed after that loss with all of the finger-pointing and with Shawn Williams getting bounced from the game by shoving Terrell Owens out of bounds for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the two poor snaps by Trey Junkin who stood up with class and handled it by taking full responsibility on his part but I was glad to witness one of the great comebacks in playoff history.
That was painful to witness as a Giants fan. Blowing a 24 point lead late in the game, having problems with long snappers all year long, then getting screwed at the end on that ineligible Receiver call. It was very painful for a long time. Which that really sent the Giants downhill in the Locker Room and they never recovered with Fassel. The guys on the team weren't getting along with each other after. I don't think we ever would've gotten Eli Manning 2 years later! Eventually it worked out for us, but it started off in a painful way that day
To put things in perspective, the Giants were robbed on this game, but since then the Giants have gone on to win 2 more super bowls and the 49ers have won 0
Good point. Call it the curse of 2002; even though Giants suck now, football gods handing great 49ers rosters postseason heartbreak 5 years in a row. Jeez, longer then Josh Allen Bills.
This game pissed me off with how the Giants blew this game, TO being the asshole he always was. This pretty much set next season up for disaster. But if the Giants won this game, I don't think they ever would've gotten Eli Manning
The 2003 QB situation would have happened regardless, Kerry Collins was declining. In any case, aint no way Giants are getting past those 02 Bucs. It would have been nice to win a playoff game or 2.

On NFL throwback weird seeing trey junkin try out for cowboys long snappers job before retiring crazy looking back not all him
This game still makes me sick.
@@WalterWhiteFootballSharing yeah the bucs were too good that season. The giants would of had no chance
@@bigrich6075nostalgic Jason sehorn lmao
It should not have came down to that field goal attempt
The down should have been replayed, offsetting penalties ❌🤦😒
@@disneydanny2 Greg Roman deserves more blame than Kyle Williams.
6:02 late in the decade, Collins would be on the opposite end of a historic beating, 59-0 in Foxborough.
What year ?
@@eric3298 2009.
Ok with titans not giants I remember Randy moss game lol
@eric3298 Yes. Randy got his revenge on Collins. In 2000, Collins and Giants beat Moss/Vikings 41-0.
Exactly except his eagles contract which he signed and cause he didn't look at contract tried ruining Andy Reid time in philly
40:35 is that the play where Fassel went nuts because the referee wouldn't let him challenge an unreviewable play?
Playing prevent defense is what did the Giants in. One dropped catch by Shockey doesn't lose a game with 20 mins left.
@@WalterWhiteFootballSharingwell explained lmao pass interference would of been lousy way to end that dramatic game it's why refs try to let guys just play in big moments !

Huh?
Rip Jim fassell wow time flies lmao
Imagine if the holder actually hit Suebert in stride in the end zone, that would have been the most fucky way to end a football game
The flag would have canceled the TD. even tho the flag was not the right call.

52:20-52:36 Ya don’t say Cris. Ya don’t say.
I hated this game as aa Giants fan but at least we avenged our defeat in the 2011-2012 postseason, en route to our fourth Super Bowl Championship in Super bowl 46!!!
The Kyle Shanahan 49ers of 2019 are fun to watch, (Thank god the Patriots reign of terror is finally coming to an end)!!! Ill be rooting for Green Bay Tomorrow in the NFC Title Game!!!
That game pissed me off so much, as a 15 year old kid, I wanted to hunt the Officials after the game. The worst part was, the league said the Refs were at fault
@@parkerbeard6170nostalgic heartbreak? Seems like my packers are in to many of these NFL greatest games
Eventually it worked out for us, but it started off in a painful way that day
@@parkerbeard6170these are so nostalgic lol
To put things in perspective, the Giants were robbed on this game, but since then the Giants have gone on to win 2 more super bowls and the 49ers have won 0
Good point. Call it the curse of 2002; even though Giants suck now, football gods handing great 49ers rosters postseason heartbreak 5 years in a row. Jeez, longer then Josh Allen Bills.
I think the “curse” will end.

Like Herman Edwards said, you play to win the game
The 2003 QB situation would have happened regardless, Kerry Collins was declining. In any case, aint no way Giants are getting past those 02 Bucs. It would have been nice to win a playoff game or 2.

That is smash mouth football..the tussle is part the crapp talking to ,to intentionally commit a foul is wrong...really go Giants...

Clearly a pass interference. He was eligible.....
We shoulda been in the divisional round; 02 they had it all together, except for this collapse. They already beat the Eagles, maybe the Giants could have beaten Tampa. Philly hosted Bucs in the NFC Championship game.

The sloppy ending makes me question whether or not this is one of the greatest games of all time. Maybe if the Giants converted the field goal and won, I would consider it as such, but the way it ended irks me.
Not much offense in that game aside from field goals. Great for defense.
